    Hello Dell M4700, M4800 users.

AMD's brand new RX560 MXM 3.1 graphic card is now on sale for 1200 yuan ($180 USD) on taobao.

    https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?sp...GcrSMn&id=560931870718&ns=1&abbucket=6#detail

This card seems to fit M4700 and M4800... or even possibly M4600 which works fine with AMD M5100.
    https://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-RX-560-Laptop.194834.0.html

Is there anyone who has tried this card yet?
It looks better & cheaper than Quadro M2200M card which is not available for sale.

No point in getting the HD7750 when you can already get the m5100 unless it overclocks better than the m5100, for like 100 USD locally.

M5100 is capable of 1Ghz+ on the core but its not a great choice if your wanting to play the latest titles even at 720p@low.

The RX560 MXM is interesting though, and Valuxin is waiting for his in the mail to test in the m4600 to the best of my understanding.

    Cool,
Yeah RX560 seems like an amazing deal for the price!
For $180, you can get a card that beats M2200M.
RX560 has 4GB and specs which is better than that of M2200M...

and I think it will work on M4600... which works with M5100.
If it works on M4600, it's going to be a fantastic investment for me.

RX560 seems to be available in MXM Type A 3.1 and 3.0?

    https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?sp...1bBGq1&id=560931870718&ns=1&abbucket=6#detail

    https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?sp...1bBGq1&id=560993555357&ns=1&abbucket=6#detail

This seller has two listings for RX560 which he claims to have MXM 3.0 and 3.1 in title.
But both description says it's 3.0...
I wonder if that has anything to do with compatibility with M4600.

He's selling this unknown MXM type A radeon card called E8860 too:
    https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?sp...R1ZiVz&id=529723094847&ns=1&abbucket=6#detail

    I think this one's a variant of M5100.

I wouldn't get your hopes up on RX 560 working on the m4600. The bios is way more restricting than its successors. Otherwise we would have the 965m working on more than just windows xp.

Mild optimism would probably be OK :)

Either way the m4700 has been getting cheaper these days as well but I think the heatsink is better on the m4600

Hopefully M4600 can work with that...

    A fine M4700 still costs $250.
M4700 is better than M4600 for sure.. and M4700 works with K2200M which sometimes sells under $200. K2200M is as good as M2000M.

I'm sticking with M4600 which I bought for $120. It has 2760QM i7 CPU with 2.4GHz speed. This is sufficient for 90% coding & UI design task for me.
M4600 is built to last with its rock solid metal housing... and it's indeed still lasting.
M4600 was $1600 USD when it first came out.

does GTX 965M work on M4600 with Windows XP?
    That's crazy... I heard it doesn't work.
    It works on M4700 though.

Check out the GPU upgrade thread for the m4600 for details with the 965m.

You can use throttle stop to push 2.8ghz 4 core turbo, I have the same CPU in mine. Of course the best is the 2860qm which can sustain 3.4ghz but its a bit pricy at 100 usd. 1600mhz ram is also the max ram speed the m4600 can use.

Rx 560 would be a great send off for the m4600.

Thanks I will check it out .
965M on M4600 would be amazing too.. although Windows 10 is way better than Windows XP can ever be....

    I've seen a few 2860QM M4600 selling for $120 on Ebay.
All M4600 without HDD and adapter sells for $120 on Ebay now...
If you know a little bit about computer, you know it's a no brainer.

M4600 was $1600 USD when first came out and it still worth that price for what it is despite of the electronic's price always falling down.
No other plastic laptop will replace value & design of M4600 which is already perfect.

Yeah I just have no need for another m4600 lol only need the CPU if I decided to upgrade it. If I get another precision it would likely be the m4800.

Yeah valuxin tried his best but its a no go on 965m working on anything beyond windows xp.

Yeah the m4600 is a nice laptop but the bios is garbage for getting any extra life out if the laptop.

Yeah, I'm getting another M4600 if it ever breaks down but I see at least four more years of life time out of mine.

2960XM CPU now sells for only $100 USD on Ebay.

I want to demand bios upgrade for M4600...

Let's hope RX560 & M4600 will work fine together... I see why not. M5100 is plug & play on M4600.

If your coding then I could see that. Gaming though, not all that great outside of OverWatch and MGS5:TPP

2960xm is a complete waste of money on the precision line. They will power throttle due to lack of amps. 2860qm is the best your going to get for consistent clock speeds.

bios mods have already been requested time and time again. Dell only does it for security now, and forum modders found the BIOS to be encrypted. Its not happening.

Personally I dont think the RX 560 will work considering no one got the RX 480 to work in anything. Still, mild optimism.

2960XM is still fine if you're around power outlet all the time. I use my laptop with adapter all the time so I'm not so worried.

2860QM is actually only 5% behind 2960XM so I guess it's' the same model...

RX480 MXM may work on M4600 too but no one knows until someone tries it.

Hopefully RX560 works fine... then I will get 2960XM & RX560 combo with four 8GB 1600MHz ram sticks.
I'm not just working on coding.. I use After Effects to create videos and user interface for software. so I need lots of graphic power.. but I would refuse to buy Asus gaming laptop for 1k. Carrying around 1k laptop isn't for me when $110 M4600 works just fine.

+John Carlson - Thanks so much for bringing this up! Just last week, in a "hope beyond hope" sort of thing, i decided to once again google for Radeon 460 or 560 MXM, and i came across this thread. I was pretty thrilled to refresh this page last night, only to see a lot more activity!

I've got an M4800 with an m5100, and ever since rumors about Polaris 11 started surfacing, i began to hope / dream about a gpu upgrade. That only got "worse" once the "Pro 460" came up in the MBP, and then the Pro WX4130/4150's showed up in the latest Dell Precisions and HP Zbooks, which only gave me more hope. And no, i can't really say i have much love for the green team.

Very much looking forward to news of valuxin's experiments with the board, once he takes delivery of it. With a gpu upgrade, i'm sure i won't have to even think about a new laptop for another 3 years easy (and i've had it for about 3 and a half already)...

    No prob.

    WX 4130 and 4150 would be my choice of MXM card for M4600 / M4700 / M4800.
However Dell version of WX 4130 and 4150 are not available for sale at all. I don't think we will see them in three years.
No one has them on Ebay & Taobao so I see Dell is keeping them exclusive for new Dell laptops.
HP version of WX 4150 MXM is available for part order on HP site but they're asking over $650 USD so that's a deal breaker.... I don't intend to spend that much money on card yet.

M2200M is in the same way... Dell version M2200M is not available for sale at all.
Thankfully a nice guy put RX560 on sale on Taobao and it looks just like M5100 so I guess it will work fine. M5950, M4000, M5100 all work fine on M4600.
