I'm negotiating with an EPP CSR for a m4400; and he says his system is giving an incompatibility error with 64bit OS and WUXGA screen; anyone else have the same problem ?

but then again some options previously available have disappeared after dell has recieved complaints. like for example fingerprint reader with vista64, sometimes it dosent work coming out of sleep etc, so they've listed it as incompatible for now. prosupport tells me it will be available again when a the FP reader software is updated...

i've noticed some weird screen problems in the 4 screens ive had...a sudden distortion of the image for less than a second....maybe this is the issue?

Thats what I thought. I'll see if I can get him to include a 64 bit restore disk on the m4400 configured 32 bit.

Running Vista64 right now with my WUXGA, no problems at all. Only thing not installed is the FP reader, but I don't really care about that.

has anyone else experienced the random, sudden, short screen distortions i've been having?

they're quite rare, maybe happen once or twice a week (when im looking at the screen, i dont know if it happens more when im not)

While I don't have the WUXGA screen, I don't have any distortion on my screen unless I am in safe mode. I would think you probably have a faulty gpu. Keep your eye on the situation. If you see it happen more often, I would call for a replacement.

If you have the 3 year warranty I would try to hold off calling them for as long as possible because, who knows, maybe in a few months or even a year, they will have a new revision of the motherboard that solves a lot of these problems and you would have a pristine machine with all of the latest hardware fixes and build tweaks.

However, I repeat that spontaneous screen flickers every once in a long while sounds like a hardware rather than a software problem.... Keep your eye on it.
