Ok, so I've installed that hot fix and I thought it worked, but after a few days it has reverted back to PIO mode ><

Any new suggestions...I really don't wanna install SP3 as I just had a lot of issues out of it, maybe I might give it another try and hope for the best.

Is the problem happening after reading certain discs? If so, can you check if those discs read OK in another computer? If they read OK then maybe your optical drive is dying.

However, first make sure there is no dust on the lens and second check for any firmware update.

As John says - the I/O errors can be caused by either bad media that the drive has problems reading or the drive itself is creating I/O errors. When there errors occur Windows throttles down the bus speed and tries again using the lower speed. If the problem remains it will throttle down all the way to PIO mode requiring you to uninstall the driver and reboot to reinstall it in the correct UDMA mode.

So if it happens with the same media try a different disc, if it happens with different discs then it's a problem with the drive itself. As John says update the firmware if there is one and give the drive a clean. If that doesn't help it sounds like you'll be needing a new optical drive.

Well, I've realized that it is my HDD :/ I don't want to buy another one, I ran SpinRite on it a while ago, I hope that didn't screw it up. I guess I'll just have to get a new drive and wipe this one and use it as a back up.
