I am both ashamed and proud to say I tried to bend my M8 in the same manner and it did not budge.

It`s amazing the glass on the screen can bend that much and not shatter, but aluminium does not spring back like plastic does.

I sat on my Galaxy S3(I know smaller phone) for months before it broke. I'm 220 lbs and kept it in my back pocket all the time. Its still the same shape, just the glass broke, then about 3 weeks later the LCD broke, everything else still works.

Between the brick-causing update, the protruding camera, and #Bendghazi, this has not been Apple's smoothest launch. On the other hand, fastest selling iPhone ever. Go figure.

I'm not sure what this proves because this test uses a mechanism that tries to fold each device at its midline, and the alleged structural weakness of the 6 Plus at issue is at the bottom of the volume rocker, not at the midline. It's like providing a study of front-seat-side-impact crash tests when there are complaints about a particular car's rear-seat-side-impact performance.

Even setting that issue aside, I think it's worth noting that the iPhone 5 was the second most bend-resistant device in the test and the iPhone 6 is the second least bend-resistant device in the test. Comparing Apples to Apples (har har), this is a big step back in durability.

And while some people may argue that this entire thing is a tempest in a teapot because they don't ever expect to exert 70 lbs of force on their phone, the phone that is less resistant to a single large input of force is probably also less resistant to repeated, smaller inputs of force throughout two years of ownership.

Well, 70 lbs of force ain't that much either. Its basically your upper body weight. So if the device is in your front pocket, and you bend at the waist/hip line, then yes you are exerting at least that much force to bend your upper body downward then upward again.

^^^As I said previous, not sure what to believe anymore.

But what Miltov posted does ring true. If the weak spot in the chassis is at the volume rocker, then why is Consumer Reports doing a bend stress test at the midline?

    Makes not sense...

The Verge: My name is Dan and I had a bent iPhone

Dan Seifert of TheVerge had his iPhone bend on him. He didn't bend it on purpose, and he kept it in an Apple case, yet it developed a noticeable bend over six weeks. And TheVerge is probably the most pro-Apple of the major tech blogs, so this definitely isn't a hit piece. This re-raises the question of whether repeated periodic stresses (as opposed to the single hard force that Consumer Reports tested) can compromise an iPhone 6.

On the other hand, he had a great customer service experience getting a free replacement, so it's not all bad news.

That bend is no where near the normal place you see it bending at the weak spot of the volume button, strange.

Oh it bends easy all right. Consumer Reports ran Apple Marketing fluff - they tested it exactly the way Apple tested, so guess what, it doesn't bend the way it does in the real world. And I can only surmise the reason that an apparently respected publication didn't see that very obvious fact is that they or their staffers do have some sort of public relations connection with Apple.

My iPhones mostly sit on a flat surface with only the occasional foray outside. So I'll be quite p'd off if they do bend, though I do acknowledge they're too thin, yet on the flipside I also acknowledge that the iPhone 6+ in particular is the only >5" phone I can realistically use out in the real world without clutching it in both hands all the time because it's unfeasibly thin. The 6 however has no such excuses.

The camera actually bothers me a lot on something as design focused as an iPhone. It's not even a nice bold accent like e.g. the Lumia 1020. And the placement is diabolical especially on the 6+, but then it is Apple - form over function uber alles - so that's not surprising. It's just that there's no form either.

That little bit of stickout for the camera bothers you a lot?

If the camera on my M8 performed even HALF as good as the iPhone's did, I wouldn't care if the camera stubbed out a bit.

What about restoring to factory and seeing if your 4S will try and update back to iOS 8? You can save your SHSH blobs before allowing it to reupdate back to the newer iOS.

Unlike the 6+ I could actually do with a little more bulk on the 6. Have a gel case now but looking for something with a bit more substance to it.

What is the MANLIEST CASE I can buy for the 6? I had a Sector 5 on the 5S but the Ion kind of looks like a Chinese knockoff of an Element case. I also had an Exovault but their cases for the 6/6+ are truly u-g-l-y.

Ironically I am actually considering a Chinese Element knockoff which while it fits like an Ion, manages to look closer to a Sector 5.

Not sure if it's beefy enough for you, but I love the Spigen Tough Armor (not the Slim).

Spigen iPhone 6 Case Tough Armor | Spigen

I have it on my iPhone5 and I can drop it on concrete, throw it towards the bed..have it bounce and hit a wall, etc. No damage. It adds a good bit of bulk and some grip as well. I like to put a Glas.TR screen protecter and a home button cover on mine. Damn thing is indestructible.

Sorry looks like I had it backwards, I actually have the Slim Armor in gunmetal for my 5, which doesn't have the cutout. When I bought it there was no tough armor line. I also dislike that feature, and it looks like it was added to the Slim Armor line for the 6 as well unfortunately :(

I don't think it sacrifices protection much, as it would have to hit a corner or point in that spot to damage it, or get scratched up by something smaller than the hole, like gravel or something. I just don't like the aesthetic of it.

    edit: How about: http://store.griffintechnology.com/iphone-6/survivor-all-terrain-for-iphone-6 or
    http://www.i-blason.com/iphone-6-armorbox-dual-layer-hybrid-protective-case.html

I don't like built in screen protectors myself, but they seem comparatively as rugged as the spigen cases.

My cousin uses one of their keyboard portfolios, but the iPad can't rotate in the portfolio so its stuck in landscape.

I have an iPhone 5 32 GB, 9.8 GB used, 17.5 available so 27.3 was available. However my phone originally shipped with iOS 6 and now I'm on 8, obviously the updates influence this. TBH Apple buyers know most Apple products aren't expandable of the capacity you buy up front. I honestly didn't need the 32 GB but my parents insisted on getting me a 32 GB. Officially I have 14.68% unavailable, but you have to initially remove the percentage that the difference of power of 2's vs 10's and then the operating system. And I think Samsung is the worst offenders of this, having the MOST bloated roms out there.

I would assume ALL iOS buyers know their iDevices don't have expandable memory.

I think a major crux of the suit is the way Apple partitions the NAND of each iDevice. The complaint alleges the root partition is unnecessarily large, leaving the User/Media/whateveritscalled partition to small.

Is there a single device on the market that advertises available-to-user storage space instead of advertising gross storage space, including the OS, preinstalled software and a recovery partition? This is silly, because (1) it's the industry standard way of advertising storage, and (2) compared to mainstream competitors, the percentage of usable space on iOS devices is higher, not lower.

This is like motorcycle manufacturers advertising "dry weight" (no fuel or oil), even though bikes can't run without fuel or oil. Everyone does it, it's still useful for comparison purposes, and I don't see what's so misleading about it.

Because people always like to find something to complain about, surprise surprise. Coming from an iPhone and mainly planted in the Android ecosystem, iOS/iPhone definitely has its advantages and drawbacks. This sort of crap is clutching at straws, really they should find something else to cry about.

Well in all fairness, most users aren't like any of us here. They see a phone advertised as 32GB, they immediately think that's the amount of storage space they will get. How many people do you know who the OS size and cache partitions into account when deciding on device storage?

It has been so long since I've had an iPhone that I'm having trouble giving tech support to family over the phone. Some of its simpleish like "it tells me I have an update, but then it says I don't have enough space to update." Well, you have an 8GB 4S and these updates are big. It's almost impossible to install these updates on 8GB phones unless you back it up, erase everything, update, and then restore.

Then I get stuff from my grandma about what icons mean or "I'm calling from my house phone because I haven't been able to use my iPhone for 3 days. I went to send a text message and now it's stuck." One of these days I'll probably have to break down and get another iPhone if my family intends to continue using them. I should make them buy it :p
