Technically, yes - i.e. it will physically fit, and will produce a picture... but it will NOT be the same quality of screen as an actual LTN156HL01. Even if you get one of the better screens, you're still looking at an IPS screen from AUO that probably uses AHVA, rather than the Samsung screen that uses PLS.

I'd love to. Working 50+ hours a week, my kids have birthdays this weekend, being a single parent, just finding the time has been impossible lately. But it's my commitment and will make it work soon, very soon.

I plan on doing a comparison. Each needs an independent review first though. After this weekend time should free up a bit though.

Well it seems the one at laptopscreen is B156HAN01.2: http://www.panelook.com/B156HAN01.2_AUO_15.6_LCM_parameter_19049.html

Nice screen still, I've used it before.

I believe that's the IPS screen that was supposed to be in the P650SE, or maybe is in systems offered by other vendors. Either way, it's a very nice IPS screen, but it suffers from the 25ms response time, making it not as good for gaming.

Still saves you on the upgrade cost if you get it from the reseller too, about 120 dollars extra.

Yup true. I would still take a 25ms IPS screen over a faster TN panel but maybe its just me.

eDP should be the only thing you find for new designs these days. DP has really brought down the complexity and pricing for notebook components and simplified the industry.

I think I would, too, but since the PLS panel is an option, and (barely) within budget, I'd much rather get it than settle for the 25ms IPS.

Hi. I have been lurking of this thread for a little while now. I ordered my NP8651 from xoitic last fri 11/7 and received it this wed 11/12.
i can confirm that the screen is not very good. viewing angles are ok (better than my hp dm4) but its not very bright. I would be very interested in getting this ips screen. IMHO its the one thing thats lacking on this laptop. Please please keep us updated with the reseller info.

I forgot, is the screen still 60hz and what are the response times.
    Thanks

    Thanks for your feedback!

I bought my LTN156HL01 off eBay for $112.75, currently the price has been lowered to $107.11.

It's hard to track down official specifications, but what I've found indicates that it is a PLS display with 60% gamut and a 16ms response time. I haven't been able to confirm for sure that it's 60Hz, but I have to think that if it were not, people would have complained by now. But since they praise this screen so highly in the GS60 forum, I am confident in saying that it's 60Hz.

Wow, if the panel really is a B156HTN03.6, that's the same AUO Display in the Lenovo Y50....which is pretty trash. What a bummer. Thanks for your perspective Wingnut.

Yes, thanks for all your work on this thread. It is definitely appreciated. Are you able to shed any info on the dimensions of the PCH? Also, any update on those "resellers" possibly offering IPS FHD options? Thanks!

Lucky you. I should be getting mine mid-next week if I'm lucky. I also got the 4710 and the 970m. I will be keen to read your feedback.

What screen did you order? I got the 1080p Matte. From reading the thread, it is B156HAN01.2 which is a 25ms IPS screen, provided by Schenker. From what I understand, this is an good screen, however I would like to know what is the very best screen to replace it with? This is just curiosity more than anything, because if I really was going to replace the screen immediately, I'd have bought it from Scan with a TN panel and paid less overall - then replaced.

edit: This one is 1080p, 800:1, and 800 brightness, however it's a TN panel. The response time is slightly worse however at 30ms http://www.panelook.com/LQ156M1LG21_SHARP_15.6_LCM_overview_19820.html I'm curious if it would actually look better than the IPS that comes standard on the P505.

Try the LP156WF4-SP B1 / D1 they have a slighter higher response time but color reproduction and contrast are better.

    Amazing viewing angles!

I look forward to receiving it.

Schenker pastes with MX-2, is it really worth re-pasting? I've read that MX-2 is fairly consistent and delivers good results. What power supply did you get, 150w, 180w? HTWingNut received 180w whereas Notebookcheck review was performed with a unit that had 150w, XMG's unit. I hope they upgraded it.

I would wait on the repaste, run BF4, Crysis, pretty much any other really taxing game first. If you don't break 80c with whatever OC you use, then I would leave the paste it has already. Those initial temperatures of 60c and 65c are just near insanely good.

Now if the temperatures spike on a heavier game or something then of course repaste it.

Also from the pictures, I could be wrong but that looks to be the 3K screen version?

Ningyo makes a good point. Those are lower (so far) than HTWingNuts. They may have done a near perfect paste job.

Also, where did you order yours from? I may have to do an overseas order if US resellers don't offer a 1080p IPS option. That viewing angle is exceptional.

Hello, can someone please run prime 95 for an hour or so and tell me the max CPU temps?

If you run the test, what was the room temp and does it throttle the CPU at all?

Thanks so much. I hope to use this as a mobile video editing laptop, and am looking for something that can run decent temps overnight for rendering and not throttle the GPU or CPU at all.

    This.

But also, I would still do an undervolt of at least -50mw. Start higher of course, around -90mw if stable. I'd imagine it'd have a beneficial affect on fan noise too, given the fan speeds are user-customisable by temperature thresholds on these models, therefore fan would kick into action less.

It seems like all the models for the 4k monitor options have been pushed back to Dec 10.
