Yeah, Schenker seems to be a pretty good way to go if you're on your side of the pond. Over here we seem to be stuck with TN screens that according to HTWingNut are dark and have poor viewing angles (and that's compared to other TN screens).

Plus the XMG 505 Pro is based on the P651, so it's sanded, rather than brushed. :(

If you are OK with TN panel, Scan UK is also very good place to buy. They are around £200 cheaper than mySN and comes with 2yr warranty.

Installing a screen? I haven't a clue how that's done haha. I guess I could learn, but the convenience factor is big for me right now.

Couple of screws, one cable... I'm oversimplifying, of course, but it's really not too hard. The difficult part is knowing which screen to buy to make sure it'll fit and work in your laptop :)

Screen does suck. But yes it should be straight forward to replace. I will do a how to if I buy this laptop.

Written review I'm almost done just can't find the last couple hours I need to finish up a couple things. Video review will come if I can get enough peace and quiet away from kids. :)

The biggest concern I have with screens is getting the damn bezel back on after you pop it off. I had a really bad time when I replaced the screen in my g73jh because the plastic tabs never quite snapped back correctly and the bezel always creaked and bulged as long as I had that laptop even after ordering a replacement bezel.

ASUS are not easily "upgradeable" proprietary MXM, weird chassis (yes, yes), so it's normal to have a weird bezel. The p650sg has the same type of bezel of the gs60 (but less big) which are easily removeable/replaceable. Clevos have to be easily upgradeable that's in their "cahier des charges"

Kingston HyperX, it's a purchased upgrade.

Exactly. Unless you want to hold on to it, but you can probably net $40 for the RAM.

Yeah, G.Skill Ripjaws are far more common in retail, less common for OEM bulk. You'll probably find HyperX from most OEMs, being Kingston who common sells in bulk more than retail IIRC.

Just curious, but is there by any chance a list of Sager/Clevo resellers offering the NP8651/P650SE? I ask because I've stumbled apon a few offering the 980m, 3k-4k screen and upgraded CPU, but they seem a bit obscure. I think if there were more options, I'd grab this in a second. Eagerly awaiting the final review!

Also wondering, are there any IPS 1080p 75% or 95% gamut anti-glare screens that could be compatible with the NP8651?

Or any kind of screen similar to what I've said...

Wonder if this one is compatible. The one in the MSI GS60 Ghost Pro is beautiful, and is Samsung SDC324C but I can't find it anywhere. This one is listed as compatible with GS60: Screen for MSI GS60 GHOST PRO. Replacement Laptop LCD Screens

Wonder if it will work with P650SE. It says 30-pin LED socket but looks like 30-pin eDP.

They have the same connector as the LTN156HL01 compatible screens, so I suspect it's actually 30-pin eDP. You might want to ask them what actual model they'll be sending.

I am both disappointed and reassured by that feedback - disappointed that the screen isn't up to snuff, of course, but reassured that the rest of the laptop is solid, and that I made the right choice in going ahead and ordering the replacement screen :)

I plan on taking pics of the default screen at various angles and of the replacement screen at the same angles, so that people can know what to expect.

It won't be right away, of course - the laptop should ship tomorrow, but the screen won't get here for another week at least.

And since those other screens are listed as compatible, that guarantees that they are sub-par alternatives to the SDC324C/LTN156HL01 - at best, an AOU IPS with a 25ms response time; at worst the same TN screen that's in the P650SE already.

HTWingNut, can you tell us the dimensions of the PCH? Do you know if it gets really hot? In another thread people posted links to this and I was considering picking one up to help dissipate the heat from it.

Increasing the thermal mass available would mostly just slow down temperature changes, a pad to the cover may work.

I'm going to pull the trigger on a P651SE (with no ram and hdd) sometime next week and i'm wondering what options for a 7mm HDD @ 7200rpm do I have? I already have a 7mm SSD that I plan to use but I strongly need a hdd to go with it.

    Thanks

just a little detail : 30 pin is compatible with a 40 pins socket.

Don't forget to get some solid duct tape if you want to change your screen, you're going to (like every laptop manufacturer) need to maintain the lvds/edp cable in the socket. When you'll change your screen you'll remark that very quickly.

At laptopscreen.com it says IPS Matte. If the SDC324C is the LTN156HL01 I'm sure to go with that LCD then. It is gorgeous (Yes I have a GS60 laptop here reviewing as well - too much at once!). Just need a reliable place to purchase from. I don't want to go through eBay and risk getting one with several dead pixels or bad light bleed.

But here is one maybe I'll bite:

edit: Stay tuned, a US reseller that frequents these forums might be getting on board to sell this LCD ;)

Good point. Yes that is a very sensitive socket and it doesn't lock in place. Some electrical tape is recommended or a fat piece of anti-static tape.

THe place I bought from had very good feedback... but of course I'm still worried.

Yep, the one I ordered had a pic of the same labeling, so I'm pretty sure it'll at least be the correct model. It might even be the same seller - the one I bought from has lowered prices by 5% - although that pic was also used by nbkit.com, so who knows.

Cool! Woulda been nice to have them in business before I resorted to eBay, but better late than never :)

So it looks like for the 15" it's the LTN156HL01 as the best swap. What is the best replacement on the 17"? Would love the bigger screen but if the screen turns out to be a turd and no readily available options for that size exist then I will regretably drop down to the 15". Nice to see the 15" is around $100 to replace and hoping the 17" is close to that price and availability as well.

Really hoped Clevo would have given us nice screens to go with such a beauty of a machine. Bummer to have to go this route when I would much rather pay for them to include a quality 1080p screen when ordering.

Mine is coming between 28 november and 15 december, but with a 980M :) i don't know if I should be sad (15 december) or happy (28november)
The thing is, we have ZERO informations on the 980M version, not even one picture, i can hardly believe that it will be available before december.

We even have pictures of the P750ZM dammit
