Force 3310 is the exact same machine as the Sager NP2096 so it will have the same DDR2 vram.
Force 3551 has the GDDR3 and it's based on the MSI-1651.
See this thread for reference.

How does the NP2096 compare to the MSI GX620?
I can't decide what to buy! -
I have some ram/processor questions...
I read it was difficult to get "true dual channel memory" if you upgrade after the initial purchase. I'm not sure what this means but is it true? I'm not looking to spend a lot right now so I was thinking of getting 2gb ram now and uprading to 4 at another time since I read before it was easy. Am I better off getting 4gb ram now with the initial purchase.
Can I combine later ram upgrades of a different type with the ram I'll have from the initial purchase?
I saw there are two options for 2gb ram: "~2,048MB DDR2 800 (2 SODIMMS) Dual Channel Memory" and "~2,048MB DDR2 800 (1 SODIMMS) Memory" Would it be better to do the first option since it's dual channel? But if I did the first, it would take up two slots instead of one, so I'd have to spend more money when I upgraded, right? And if chose the one slot option, is the second slot ready to go if I were to upgrade later or do I have to mess with the second slot before putting in another memory stick?
For the processor, is it worth 2.53 ghz processor over the 2.4? And with the 2.53 is it worth spending the extra 35 bucks for the 25 watt option? And is it even worth getting the 2.4 ghz over the standard 2.26?
The computer will be used for college and gaming.
Thanks! -

there is a small possibillity that when you upgrade your ram that the two diffirent memory stics wont talk to each other and therefore could dual channel be hard to get BUT for 60 dollars you will get 2x2gb and still have money over for a hamburger so you do not really lose anything to wait because in worst case you will have to buy 2 new 2gb sticks which cost the same as the upgrade to 4 gb now

@Captain Picard
The chipset is what supports Dual Channel Memory and it only requires that you have 2 SODIMMs. So to economize, just get 1x2GB now, and then you can add another piece later.
For your uses, and considering your monetary goal, the P8600 is probably your "sweet spot". -

For some reason, the palm rests look like its made out of a leathery material. But I doubt it. Probably plastic.
What is the quality of the keyboard and touch pad? Any flex?
What is the quality of the screen? (comparable to Sony? )
By the way, nice pictures. Gives us a good insight of what to expect. Thanks. -

As far as the pictures look, the notebook looks pretty nice. I like the look and now i'm really considering the upgrade from my 2092 to the 2096. We'll see after the reviews and pictures of screen etc come out!

Thanks for the pictures, sphinx454; can you comment on how strong the hinge is?

I'm probably gonna get this laptop, but I look forward to seeing some benchmarks. Seems pretty sweet so far.

Thanks sphinx454!!!
Can't wait for the benchmarks to come out -
yes yes, so excited, post the benches =)

If you manage to get your hands on the right drivers for turbo memory 2.0, could you please give some feedback on how it works? I didn't take my chances by getting it, but if it significantly improves start up time and application booting, I may consider it .

Benchmarks yet?
I'm hanging on what you tell me about this computer for whether I'll get it or the 7680, or if it's really bad (which I have a feeling it won't be) a dell. -
Does the NP2096 support switchable graphics or HybridPower? to get better battery life.
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
^--^
No
That requires an nVIDIA chipset based system with the on chip IPD (integrated video) together with a discrete video card. Hybrid has been announced, but is not shipping in any laptop yet.
Further, the battery life savings will be minimal. The real reason, according to nVIDIA, for the Hybrid technology is so that you can get more performance out of a lower end discrete video card by using both cards in SLi.
Since the Sager NP2096 already has the 9600M GT, not a lower end card, there would be no benefit from Hybrid technology anyway other than a very minimal battery savings. -

could anyone who has it/is getting it comment on battery life?
that is, of course, not while gaming just general browsing/word processing... -
please post the review
btw, how long did it take it to arrive? If I order it on august 9th, when will I receive it?
