Is that what PWM means? pulse width regulation? I've been Googling that for 10 minutes. So before I waste any more time, what does pulse width regulation mean and is it good? Hope you're doing well Prema

Also yes those GPUs do cost the suppliers most of what you pay for them individually plus now you have to design the board yourself.Jon Webb likes this. -

Prema mod. Also, I shudder at the thought that a notebook that may cost north of $5000 would ever have a maximum warranty of 2 years.
Buy it from HID. I have said since these units came out on the original DM that if you want it to function well you're gonna want a delid. Everybody running quick benchmarks like cinebench or firestrike doesn't mean one lick of meowmix, those things end far too quickly. When you want to sit down with a game at 120fps for 3-4 hours, your CPU is going to get a lot hotter.
Did you raise the power limit? The stock is like 91W long. It makes sense it would throttle unless you set that to like 300W or something.Stress Tech and Donald@Paladin44 like this. -

Quick question. 8700K / 1080 vs 1080SLI.
As a guesstimate, how long would u say each setup is viable? I'm considering the 1080 SLI setup as opposed to a single 1080...

Come on guys seriously, you think Nvidia gives a big margin on their cores, more than their card partners?aaronne likes this. -

So here's another question for you two wise ones, how important is the "vapor chamber": NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 8GB GDDR5 X 200W + Vapor Chamber GPU & CPU Heat Sink Set - NVIDIA G-Sync Enabled +$195.00
I'm already approaching sub $4000 for an original absolute max budget of $3500, but if the vapor chamber is really that important I'll wait a few more days and order my Clevo with it.
Honestly I just don't want any blue screens from overheating like what I got with my Alienware back in 2014. I do run my laptops all day doing work with VMs, some gaming at night (Civ and Total war). The GTX1080 is important to me as it will be an upgrade my PC's 980 ti, which is all screwed up from Hurricane Harvey (roof leaked in home). Same reason I'm going for coffee lake is so it's an upgrade my PC's 4770k.
Thanks again for the replies!Stress Tech and Donald@Paladin44 like this. -

Also, as for the pricing for other laptops with a "similar" system... none really exist. But yes, it is high for its specs.

HIDEvolution mainly has Samsung brand NVME SSDs, I don't see Crucial MX300. I need to get it from them so the warranty covers the SSD. Otherwise I'll regret it when I kill the NVME SSD. At my last job we used Dell XPS 15's, and I killed two NVME SSDs because of the work we do (lots of read and writes in VMs). Both were NVME and honestly in my PC I had a Samsung SSD and NVME is day and night faster in many tasks. Especially when bitlocker or LVM + LUKS is used IMO.Stress Tech and Donald@Paladin44 like this. -
To be clear, OEM drives like SM961/PM961 are NOT the same as the consumer lines like 960 EVO/960 Pro. They have OEM-based warranty ONLY. Normal consumer drives have a standard warranty elsewhere... and 850 pros have 10 yearsLast edited: Dec 2, 2017Stress Tech and Donald@Paladin44 like this. -
gotta spam those optane SSDs in these machine and make it fly, when a decent capacity like 96-128GB comes out on a m.2 form
