Scan is perfectly legit... Their prices are good however their warranty is really 1 year although they say 2 year as in the 2nd year you have to pay for postage/labour I believe... other then that, they're good

As Cakefish mentioned, we have also not seen any difference in performance in the different vRAM models. -
Very tricky though... The three major parts that break In a laptop are the CPU, GPU and motherboard. Now if one part breaks out of warranty, the whole laptop is worthless as replacing will cost you... a new laptop.
I'm still thinking maybe a P170SM-A would be a lot safer... But less pretty. -

Any update on IPS or 3k/4k panels?

It then really depends on what kind of connectors the screen uses. I heard the 15.6" and 17.3" use the same motherboard so that would imply they have the same connectors inside. If it's 100% identical...
I'll be getting my 17.3" unit in next week, can anyone shed some light on the different connectors there are so I can post my findings here?Last edited: Dec 12, 2014 -

I'm actually curious about screen upgrades as well.
If I got a FHD (1080p) screen now, would I be able to upgrade to a 4k screen later (if there's a compatible one?
Also, about the keyboard. I'm curious if there are any compatible keyboards? Just as reference. (Esp. since I'm a big fan of the steelseries 3-zone multi-color keyboard you find on MSI and certain Sager laptops which I'm assuming is not compatible?) Thanks for anything you guys can tell me. -
Sorry but no, 1080p displays use different connectors than 3K/4K displays. Check out P65XSG/E thread for more info.

I see. So those laptops that have the option of a 4k display, do they usually have both connectors or is it a different version that has one or the other?
-
Same connector different cable.
-
-
So... we procure ourselves a P650xx cable then... -
Currently no 17.3" 4K panel exists that's on sale to consumers.

The screens will come but will they use the same connector?

Thank you. -

On another note: reading the P650xx/P670xx manual I see the ventilation holes on the P670 are lined up REALLY poorly with the fans. Not so much on the P650.
This might be a problem and a source for overheating... -

...the CPU hit 100c
I attributed it to a bad TIM job and showed him a different review from HTwingnut.

Now I wonder if vent placement is an issue. -
The P650 even seems to have better fan placement for the CPU than the P670. I can't tell however from the manual if the fan is raised from the bottom or not. If it isn't there could very well be a problem.
Nothing my Dremel can't fix, but there's this warranty thing...
Your link does not work... -
Ah so the main issue is that there aren't any 4k 17.3" screens out there. That's unfortunate. It would be nice to have the extra resolution for work. Ah well.
Again, any compatible keyboards that could replace the one this comes with? If it turns out I don't like the feel of the current one?
Also, anyone know of any reviews coming out for this? I'm currently use the one HTWingNut did on the 15.6" version as reference and basing my purchase off of it (plus specs and price) but obviously, it's not the same. -
well you could mod the chassi to line up the fans. and if the system fails you can just buy another chassi
-
You wouldn't need a whole chassis though, just the bottom plate.
Trying to procure it might be more tricky if you don't want your reseller to know what you're up to. Wouldn't want to give him a potential reason to deny warranty.
Anybody know what (other) reseller (than mine) would sell those bottom plates separately? -

Well, I just picked up my pretty SG!.. can't wait to get crackalakin'!!

Nice!
Can you post some pics and what screen does it come with? I know it's a TN panel but how is brightness and viewing angles?
How are temps and fan noise under load/gaming ?
It's between this laptop or smaller brother.
Congrats and enjoy -

So far I can say the screen doesn't disappoint. It's a ChiMei 173HGE. It's bright enough but full sunlight is never ideal.
The unit feels freakin huge, but that's because it's so super thin compared to my old P170EM.
It's WAY more stylish and the simple white backlit keyboard is a delight, also compared to the crap they dared shipping on the P170EM.
I'll put it to the test asap, but I've been installing windows 8.1 first and getting used to that (first timer).
When I get back home and update it and image it I'll be able to wreck the install with tests.Last edited: Dec 16, 2014 -
can you tell us about these
1)how is the audio quality and subwoofer performance
2)I see the CPU grill isn't aligned properly is there any performance issues with that?
3)Can you post some CPU and GPU temps.
thanksIceBounds likes this. -
1) Far from perfect and my old Dell M1710 beats it still, but it's there and better than the previous models like the P170EM. It's sufficient but by no means THE reason to go for the P170 instead of the P150. I still use my headphones. Having said that, I don't know how good/bad the P150 sounds... HTWingnut might be more in the know there.
2) That worried me too actually, especially since the P150 has more air vents in the bottom AND is made of metal. I don't have any temps yet, I'll be working on that soon. What I do know is that the bottom plate is raised from the fans so it draws in case air from all the sides. I'm not sure how much it gets of that since the slits and holes are few and far between, but it might be sufficient.
I'll be testing wit the bottom plate on and off obviously.
I'm already planning on buying a replacement bottom plate and modding it, but at this point I can't say if it's needed.
I'll be back. -

If you look in the manual you'll see that the P650 (Model A) bottom panel looks quite different the P670 (Model B) panel. The vents are quite different. What did strike me as odd at first is that my P670 (model B in the manual) has chrome on the rear exhaust vent and all around the back (Design II) while that appeared to be limited to only Model A, Design II. I think it looks really nice and thought it was a nice surprise.
I took those shots in Zanzibar, east Africa. My boss sent me there for the night so I took the opportunity to take some nice shots by the pool. (Close but not too close to the water...).
I killed the pic with the serial, it was only to show that it had the 19v checkbox ticked instead of the 19.5v
I still don't understand what the big whoop is with 19 or 19.5... I read about the PA-19 brick that people can use and that is 19.5...
....
I'll put it all in eventually, startmenu mods, glass mods, gadget mods, theme mods, but I gotta bench this puppy first. Problem is my suitcase got lost...with my charger, so I've been busy this morning getting a new one. Also my power meter was in there so that's gotta be replaced too. Sorry for the delay fellas.
If I wanna get any data back here soon enough I have to limit myself to Afterburner and various standard benchmark tools. Working on it... -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Any model that takes 19v should take 19.5v too to be fair, it's a very small percentage difference.
-
Oh I know it works, I just wonder why on the bottom there would be two boxes with 19v and 19.5v and one checked. Is it just to indicate what power supply came with it so customers don't freak out or does it have a technical reason?
-

I'm not sure if the bricks are used for different regions and preform better depending on the input voltage or if it's inventory management.
-
I like to think the .5v more will add to stability when OC'ing
