The 3d screen is back for the np8170 but still not for the 580m :(

If it is only an issue of certified drivers, why are the resellers not allowing both 3d screen and 580m in their options? people could get both now and update the drivers/enjoy 3dvision later...

Yes, it looks like a wrong mobo. P170HM with ATI has a different one, a modification of 150HM. Once I tried an nVidia card and got the same issue. But I'd switch to ATI 6970M or 6990M instead of 560M.

It's not only drivers the P170HM3 also requires a BIOS update to do the 3D/120hz thingy with the GTX580m. It's expected to come early August. Origin shipped mine already, because I agreed to do the BIOS update myself.

    ;)

Any idea when those 3D screens will be available?

I have decided on getting a P170HM and just need to find a dealer able to provide it as an option. :)

I have the screen but no cable.... Sager says they need to come from Clevo overseas since all 3D bare-bone systems are pre-assembled there....

I purchased a bunch of these 3D LCD kits from Dell (over $400/ea! ) and the 2ms 120Hz compatible LG panel is now used on many systems, but the LVDS connector on the rear of the panel is 50-pin, not the standard 40 pin. To make it worse, Clevo uses proprietary block connectors on the motherboard side and not standard ones so it would be too much of an issue to simply modify a Dell or other cable.

Thanks a lot for all the help Scott :) this means a lot to me, it really does... i know how impressed you all are about the viewing angles and the beautiful colors on the AUO B173HW01 V4 :) i want a taste of this panel :p

Because well my current LG panel shows images and bluray movies like a panel from year 1930 :D not what a person would expect for a highend gamer machine!

No wonder Origin has them in stock. Their prices are $1K higher than anyone else for identical systems and I would imagine no one's buying from Origin.

You may be onto something there mate. Last response i got after showing the pics was to check the bios version and mb type + EC firmware? and report back to the store. I will do this tonight and see what happens from there.

About the middle of August (in about 3weeks) the 3D 120Hz screen should be shipping at a good rate again. :)

It really boils down to your config. For mine their prices where identical to those of Xotic, Mythologic, Manibal etc...plus they offered more "out of the box services" and a custom airbrush.

A noobie question from me here about the "AUO B173HW01 V4 glossy panel" that i will get very soon:

My notebook is the Clevo P170HM, bought in Germany at DevilTech, one of the European Clevo retailers/OEMs.

The panel that im getting, people are talking a lot about NTSC Gamut 90%, does this mean that the panel is NTSC and "not" PAL, and therefore will not work on a European laptop? will it have any kind of issues when putting it into my european laptop?

"Although NTSC stands for National Television System Committee, which developed television standards for North America, in this instance, 100% of NTSC refers to the full range of color that can theoretically be displayed."

    So no problemo! ;)

I finally received my Sager last night :) I'm so impressed by it - even the spouse fell in love with it and wants a 15.6" version for himself.

I don't remember reading anything about the sound in the forum, so I have a question - how do you guys have your audio set up? To get the sub to turn on, everything runs through it and it sounds muffled and the volume is too low. To make the sound clearer and louder, the sub has to go off. I tweaked everything in every possible way and can't get it to sound too great. Not that I bought a laptop for the sound quality, but I'd like to take advantage of it as best I can.

    This message is to Scott_RC-TEK:

I heard that the Clevo P170HM has started change out their LG panel with one from Hannstar now, which should be a bit better.

I read a few pages back, that you changed to the AUO 173HW01 V4.

The AUO panel, does it beat both the LG and the Hannstar? i just found out about the Hannstar a minute ago! so the Clevo P170HM that i will get delivered in 3 days, might have that screen instead.

    But i have also ordered a AUO B173HW01 V4!

Which of the 2 monitor panels wins the battle? The Hannstar or the B173HW01 V4?

    And why :)

well it is a lot better than the stock screen I had ;) (the LG one)
The colours are fine and i can see what is on the dissplay when i am outside in the garden :) also the fewingangels are better and for what i can tell black is nearly black and not the dark gray soup with it was on the screen i had before

anoying thing about the Display is for me that it is a bit to bright for me while watsching movies in the dark even on the lowest level ...

    (sorry for the bad english)

From what I have seen, only the heat sync is different. I would say that the mobo is the same.

    OOPS... DOUBLE POST sorry guys

    *Edit*

I just got my computer back from sager this afternoon, and am still having display issues.

here is a youtube video that I took, but my camera isn't that high quality and I'm not sure if you guys can see the problem.
I did get back in contact with sager and they are looking in to it and and seem helpful enough, but I'm not sure how long this will take to get this resolved through sager, but Ill keep you guys updated.

The 4 rubber tabs in the corners of the screen hide the screws.

Once you screw those off, slide an unused card along the edges to pop the bezel out, remove some more screws, switch the screen out, put the screws back, pop the bezel back on, screw the 4 screws in, and then put the rubber tabs back on.

It sounds tough, but once you do it, it's not that hard, especially if you are accustomed to PC parts.

Congrats! Not sure about the 8170 but with the 8130, you would activate the THX by double clicking on the desktop icon and the sound quality gets a lot better.

What are the differences between AUO B173HW01 V.4 panels 2 versions:

"HW:0A" and "HW:1A", and will they both work on the Clevo P170HM?

One of them has something to do with Dell.

But i would imagine myself that there are no differences, that its just some kind of modelnumber or something, they both are the V.4, but im not sure!

I have made some investigations into this, but i didnt find out for sure!

I have ordered a "real version V.4" and i saw the item on webcam from the guy i bought it from, its the AUO B173WH01 V.4 but its the HW:0A one, and the one you guys have bought that comes from Taiwan is the HW:1A version.

Is there any difference? so i fear a little that the 0A version of the 4V wont work in my Clevo P170HM, but okay if it doesnt i still can buy the 1A from Studio Technology in Taiwan!

Though I have the V.4, I also feel it's too bright. I keep it two notches from minimum brightness, which is still plenty.

Who would ever need a screen to be this bright?

The onboard mic on this computer has an effect where it can't be turned off. If I turn off a mic in Windows it makes it so no users hear anything, but the echo and feedback I can still hear.

In short, there is no way to make it so the onboard mic doesn't pick up the noise when I'm using the touchpad or the keyboard and it's really getting to me.

Any ideas? Again, turning off the mic doesn't do anything except make it so people can't hear me on say, Skype.

This sounds like a Windows setting (I'm assuming you are using Win7?). You can get pretty detailed in what the computer will do for noises through the sound control panel. Control Panel -> Sound and depending on the device you want to manipulate will change the tab you go to. Most likely "Recording" for you. Change the properties of the device.

Anyone have the upgraded screen from Malibal (72% NTSC Matte) for the P170HM model? I couldn't care less about the 120hz or the 3d Vision, but based on reviews and multiple threads, the stock screen on this model is not the greatest.

It sucks to pay $200 (with a portion of it for something I don't care for) for the upgrade but it is the main thing you use when looking at a PC. Any input on this one? I see some mentions of screen models in other posts but this doesn't help me as I'm not sure these are the same ones you get when paying for the upgrade.

    Thanks.

some of the early 8170 screens were LG, and it seems that more recently clevo has gone to the Hannstar, which some say are better (maybe still not the greatest, but it got positive comments from anandtech). i've got the Hannstar when i ordered towards the end of june, and i'm satisfied with it.

but still its a stock screen :) so its just a little pimped version of the LG...

i would defnately go for the AUO B173HW01 V.4/V.5

it really sounds like from all the threads i've read in here, that the stock panels doesnt fully live up to most of the high-end notebook gamers requirements!

i must say i feel the same way, i have bought a sick computer with a sick cpu, 16 gig of hyperx ram, and a superb GPU, but still it is the panel that must deliver me the experience of, how this hardware performs and computer performs.... so offcourse the LED panel is important :) it is on here everything happens :p

The new upgraded 90% NTSC Color Gamut Glossy Display that we carry is the AUO B173HW01 V.4. The default screen on our Satori P170HM is now a Hannstar HSD173PUW1. I think you will be satisfied with the Hannstar, it's much better than the LG screen (previous default screen on the P170HM) that received those poor reviews.

P170HM with ATI has a modified mobo from P150HM, initially P170HM was for nVidia cards only. Look at the official Clevo driver download page - no drivers for 6970M for P170HM, for 150HM only. I tried installing nVidia and had the same issue.

I have an 8170, and I replaced the WiFi 6300N with a 6230N. I am getting horribly slow speed from the 6230N, like I have dial-up. The 6300N had 3 antenna connections but the 6230N only has two antenna connections. The antenna cables on my 8170 were numbered 1-3, and the 6230N has two antenna connections that are numbered. I connected the corresponding antenna cable to the connector on the 6230N.

Is this correct? There is no way the 6230 is that slow.

There are two posts on the Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6230 802.11a/b/g/n wireless LAN + Bluetooth™ Combo Card. Which cable numbers have you attached? I believe you should be using the black and white cables while leaving the gray one disconnected.

I have the clear and black cable attached. The red one is not attached.

Try replacing the clear one with the red one. Did you attach the black one to the same post number that it came off of the 6300?
