I have Sager NP8170-S1 with stock super glossy screen and GTX485M.
Now Sager ship NP8170 with 3D kit.
Can I manually upgrade my notebook to the NP8170-3D ?
Can I install new 120Hz 3D screen an IR transmeter for glasses?
In notebook already installed IR transmitter.
Can this IR tranmeeter work with 3D-glases or I need install another NVIDIA IR transmeeter?
There i can find and buy new 120Hz 3D ready displey?

What exactly does the SSD speed up?

Also if I take the RAID 0 option with two 500GB's 7200RPM hardrives, will they combine and become one hardrive that's 1000GB, or remain as 500GB?

Don't forget about the value added tax. It's 25% from the laptop's total cost (laptop + shipping) that you must pay when your package arrives from the States at your local post-office. So in my opinion it's more reliable to get the laptop from one of Sager resellers in Sweden, like this one.

Someone tried to run the witcher on the 6970M? For me regardless of graphics settings and resolution do not want to have more than 30 frames, I tried different combinations and different settings in the drivers but to no avail vsync on / off makes no difference. I have modded drivers from the 11.5 installer, 3D Mark 2006 17.800 k or a good result or below average? 2630QM processor 4GB Ram 60GB SSD Vertex 2

I order a to the Polish by Polish distributor who lives in the U.S., the cost in dollars was ~ 1960 on the site, I paid 6200 polish zloty ($ 1 = 2.80 PLN) this was all the costs of entry into the European Union, so as to bring the Polish paid the $ 300

But you can also buy a Clevo in Germany as XMG on mysn.de should be cheaper and faster, I was waiting for her 6 weeks

Didn't know they had any resellers in Sweden! :O

Thanks for the link though, but they don't seem to have the 8170/P170 version. Only the P150 :(

Got anymore links, or perhaps any tips on what I should search to find another reseller?

According to this thread it's the one and only reseller in Sweden. I was going to place my order at one of USA resellers also, but suddenly noticed here a member from Norway, and he told me that we have one Sager reseller in Norway too. I was like OMG, that was very unexpectedly to me. So you can check it out, Norway isn't that far like States to you :)

Yeah, was thinking about the possibility of getting it from Norway instead. Will it still cost me an extra 25% though? Just thinking about it makes me die a little bit inside.

Umhh, good question though. Really not sure about it if that VAT is still used between Europe countries. Try to contact you local post-office to clarify it.

Yeah..... I may buy it from another European country. Buying it from Norway cost's quite a bit in Swedish Currency. Unfortunatly the resellers use their countries language so I may just end up buying it from XoticPC anyway.

EDIT: Kinda forgot that England exists <.< Going to check out their prices aswell. Hopefully the VAT isn't so high when importing from another European country.

EDIT: Well, I checked out Kobalt and I might end up buying it from them. I like how they already include the VAT price when they show how much the total cost will be.

VAT in the European Union is only calculated on the basis of the difference between countries. For example, in Englad VAT is 23% in Sweden 16% so all you have to pay the difference or 7%, of course the values given above are examples not know the VAT rates in other countries :)

Aren't the resellers all the same and no mater where you buy it from it still ships from Sager to you ?
My understanding is that if you order from Xotic or if you order from Sweedish reseller or Polish one, all of them call Sager and they place order, than the laptop is sent to you straight from sager and when it gets to your door you have to pay taxes and duties.
I ordered one from Xotic to Canada and when it gets to my door I have to pay 13% canadian taxes.
I would check really well with resellers, because if they do not have a service where you pay up front taxes and import fees but rather than on pickup, then it doesn't really matter where you buy it from.

If you are buying in their own country is the charges are included, but if you bring from another country like me, you have to pay taxes, duties, etc, if you order by the distributor of his own country, then the price is already included, if not, such charges must pay in person, no matter whether the German or the U.S. the only difference is the amount, the more rewarding to me by a Polish company in the service by paying to bring in $ than from Germany in euros, so as I said earlier, if the equipment will be imported from an EU country to country who is also member of the European union is the lowest fee, but in some cases the cost of a laptop with the union in the euro may be higher than introduction from us,

check the auction site, someone comes to order, then you have fully calculated the cost to your door, no one pays to bring just one laptop across the ocean so it must have either a company or several contracts, it's better if you Would you buy in europe

sorry for my English, I hope that what I wrote is understandable, I counted the different possibilities and through a similar dilemma :)

no one pays to bring just one laptop across the ocean

Sorry, but I don't agree. I have found that with the 'crash' of the Dollar in Forex, it just became just so much more an interesting for me to purchase the laptop straight with XoticPC and have the laptop shipped via UPS to me.

Just trying to find a fast and efficient Sager reseller in Europe was just too much hassle for me. I've now purchased 3 Sager via XoticPC in the past 5.5 years and I'm so very happy with the quality of the equipment.

Various consultants in my company are now also doing the same. Getting build to spec laptops shipped over.

How true it is that many from the Far East to Europe are buying these Sager and Clevo models from US Resellers and are very happy with the results, even when figuring in the VAT and other fees... :)

Grr. I got word on Monday that Sager will want my laptop for the motherboard swap/repair due to Intel SATA recall (I think everyone's forgotten by now except us infected, er, affected). They just wanted to confirm mailing address which I provided right away, and still haven't heard back from them. Was hoping to ship on Monday so that it wouldn't be gone more than one weekend (hopefully), but now I don't know what to think.

^^^The last few customers we had that went in for the Recall FIX, Sager only needed 2 days and they sent the machines back to the customer. Not too bad of a turn around time. :)

I am glad I ordered when I did and waited 5 weeks. I got the Intel fix. Was worth the wait. I almost bought the NP8760 about a year and half ago. Sure glad I had to wait. They fixed/improved on a lot of points.

So, what do you all think of apple laptops?

Agreed. If I'm getting laptop from one of resellers in my country anyways I will pay almost the same amount of money like if I would order it from USA. The only thing I'm worried about, is the guarantee. If something goes wrong with laptop, I have to send it back to USA, and that means - money, distance and time.

Well I bugged my reseller (XoticPC) Friday after requesting it Monday and heard nothing back. Not sure if it's Xotic or Sager dropping the ball.

Now that I'm ready to send it back, I just want to get it done.

Our customers are receiving their shipping labels for the recall within 24 hours of contacting us. The same goes for any RMA. Leaving customers waiting for a week+ is unacceptable. You should contact your reseller because it's ultimately their responsibility.

    I am a little confused.
Does bluetooth only come along with a wlan card or is there an on board bluetooth chip. I am asking because most cards don´t come with bluetooth chips.

There is only one WLAN port in this model, so if you want bluetooth it either needs to come with the WLAN card as a combo, or you'll have to add it via USB.

    Stock WiFi - 150mbps, bluetooth 1x1 antennas
    6230 - 300mbps, bluetooth, 2x2 antennas
    6300 - 450mbps, no bluetooth, 3x3 antennas.

    Hey everyone,

Been following this thread for a while now, read almost every page as I've been quiet excited about receiving my NP8170.

Problem is, I placed my order with Xotic PC on the 22/4, went to production on the 29/4, sent for phase 3, custom skinning on 5/5 and then was lost in transit on it's way to Xotic...
So now it's the 24/5 (my birthday = D ) and no word as to when I'll be receiving my laptop.

Has this happened to anybody else here?

    Happy birthday! Not I.

I was wondering a few things though, as well. After I use the HMDI port to plug my laptop into my HDTV, the screen on the TV is like zoomed in. How can I fix this? Next thing is the sound. After I unplug my TV, the sound is still set to the TV and I cannot get my laptop to produce sound without restarting it. I know this has been asked before, but what is the deal with WiDi on my setup? Is it capable? Lastly, any update on the new screens?

My notebook is having some issue(s), which I believe are worthy of being deemed moderate to severe.

    1. It always registers as plugged into AC power, even when it's clearly running on battery. The two LEDs on the front will be green/green or orange/green, even when it's unplugged and off. The battery symbol in the Windows notification area says plugged in and charging, even as the % grows smaller and smaller.

    2. When the machine is on, plugging in the 4-prong end of the adapter will at times cause the notebook to immediately shut off. I've also seen sparks more than once.

There's clearly an electrical malfunction in play. I don't feel like sending it in, right now, but I'd hate for something like my beautiful screen to get shorted out.

It probably won't fit into the HDD slots, though you may be able to get it to work in the ODD- but that too may be an issue. Here's the relevant info from the manual:
