Myth's matte is 72%. You'll have to ask a Sager reseller about theirs.

Sager is not offering the 95% glossy. I must have that screen. It's the closest us Clevo lovers can get to an RGBLED.

Yeah, can any Sager reseller comment on the matte screen that's available?

And any word on pricing or availabilitly of the 6970?

Hey we build directly ourselves from Clevo shells, so its branded as MYTHLOGIC as its our machine :)

The standard matte screen on something like the 8130 is 60%, our matte screen in 15.6" is 95% and in 17.3 our matte is 72% (Glossy is 90%)

As before if you want some specific technical details on our screens send me a PM and I would be happy to email you the full datasheets on the screens :)

Here is a quick pic I just snapped of one of them. Sorry about the grainy-ness the camera was setup for taking dark photos so I can show off the matte screens :)

This Intel issue has really messed up my plans...

I am travelling to the US for the first week of march, and had planned to order the laptop, delivered to my friends address so that I could then pick it up while I was over there.

But now due to the Intel recall, there seems to be very little chance that any of the resellers will be able to build and ship a system before that time. Have to say I'm really disappointed as I had my mind fully set on this system. :(

Anyways, any info on when things will go back to normal?

Fully back to normal probably around mid-april. A lot of us do ship internationally, but we are aware that its not always the best option due to cost :)

Yeah, the fans are pretty annoying. It's weird they cycle on even when you aren't doing anything and the CPU and GPU temps are under 40. Really my only complaint about this laptop.

So at least 3 people so far think the fans are loud and annoying.. I am coming from a non-gaming laptop with no fan noise so the difference for me is going to be very drastic. I watched the review posted on Youtube and in the comments someone asks if the fans are loud and the reviewer says the fans run "very low" and make little noise.. Bit confused now

Here is the Youtube link NP8170 Review

I'll do a video of the fans. I can't until tomorrow because I'm not at home at the moment.

    What CPUs are being used?

From htwingnut's signature, it appears he has the i7-2720QM CPU. What about the other two people?

That's the weird thing, the CPU runs hotter than the GPU! CPU is a 45W TDP, GPU is 100W TDP! From what I can tell, the fans are the same and similar heatsink so the CPU should be more than well cooled.

My M860TU's fan run constantly, so I've learned to just tune it out.

80C on the CPU bothers you? That's nothing over which to be concerned.
Yeah I'll be ordering from them, but not until shipments start again.

No Blu-ray drive though? Seems kinda criminal to not get one, especially when buying a 256GB SSD doesn't faze you.

I thought a lot about that. Since I don't own any Blu-Ray movies now, I figure if i ever get that bug I can go external (or take advantage of the MYTHLOGIC Phoenix Upgrade policy). I sunk the money difference into the upgraded screen instead. Since I do graphics and such, the screen will be very nice to have.

I have heard and read the clevo will come out with backlit keys some time this year. Does anyone know if their current laptop line will be able to be upgraded to the backlit keys? I know it would take an extra connection on the mobo. Does the current mobos have the connections? Thank you in advance.

Sounds like end of this year like late Q4 2011. Chances are it cannot be retrofit unless there is an open USB header or other way to power it.

Same here, a friend is going to NY last march/beginning april and would buy the NP8170-S1 with his contacts in the US and pick up and bring here, but thanks to Intel my plans unfortunatelly went to trash. Unfortunatelly shipping cost to my country makes the Sager/Clevo notebook forbidden.

Finally i could buy the laptop of my dreams and have a friend with family in the US that could help me with this and Intel made this fail, is quiet frustrating.

ps: Is any reseller of Sager/Clevo in Atlanta, GA ? (i have a friend that goes often there but just for business and could go and buy in Atl.)

Reseller in GA would make it so much easier for those of us living in East..

It would shorten the turn time of repairs by at least a few days..

Not reseller, but Sager office East of the Mississippi would help out all of us Central and Eastern US folks A LOT. XoticPC is in Nebraska, but they don't ship or do repairs unless it's outside of the first year warranty. Heck, certify XoticPC or other reseller to do the Sager work for them.

Let's be happy at the fact Sager is offering 3-day transit for repairs.

If I have to use ground shipping, it takes about 4-5 days...

Well, I'm happy it's 3-day shipping, but it doesn't change the fact that every machine has to go back for repairs. Being without my machine for two weeks will be rough! Although I guess I'll have to live off my M11x during that time. At least it's somewhat gaming capable. And always have my desktop which I rarely use these days though.

Well, I'm at my parents house this weekend, so it's sitting quietly back at my house. Can't wait to get back and start benching some more stuff. At this point I think I've convinced myself to keep it and deal with the repair. It'll be a tough 2-3 month wait if I returned it considering I already have one in my lap.

I "think" you might even be able to sell it for a higher price, given the wait and all..

Mythlogic builds off of Clevo setups; the same as Sager. They're in Ann Arbor, MI, which is far east of CA, in case anyone in the east didn't know that and wanted to check out a closer location to buy a Clevo system. I think Resident Goldfish said somewhere in these forums he would have bought his rig from there if not for the sales tax, but I could be incorrect.

Being in MO, shipping has never presented me with any time-concerns.

You are correct. Mythlogic is less than an hour from my house. Their quote with sales tax ended up over $150 more than any Sager reseller. Most of it was sales tax.

Hello. I'm new here, so I have some questions about NP8170-S. I want to order one from official Sager website, so I build my own customization where the final price only for the laptop was 3000 $. It's really worth it. But I was confused about the price for shipping and VAT (25 % in Norway), because it's gonna cost for me a little bit more than 1000 $. So I'm just wondering maybe there is a more reliable and profitable way to get that laptop online? If not, I assume I will buy it anyway.

The other thing I want to know about the warranty. If something will go wrong, should I contact my seller and send laptop back to USA covering costs for shipping and VAT in both ways?

Oh, and what's the difference between NP8170 and NP8170-S? :)

    Thank you!

    Hey,

There are a variety of Clevo builders (like us) and Sager resellers that you can configure a machine and will get a different price. We for example will ship to Norway (But as you mentioned it won't be cheap), another thing people have done in your case where it will cost $1000 to ship it in after vat. Might want to look into flying into the states and picking it up. Plane ticket might be cheaper. We've had some customers do that and then just fly it back. You can PM or email us for other ideas! And yes the warranty if needed would have to be shipped back to the US

The difference between those two is the S1 is a higher config that has a discount applied. They are the same machines.

You can also check out the Clevo Guide sticky. It has a bunch of resellers by country, if you find that shipping charges from the US are too prohibitive. Clevo Guide 2.0

Thank you for quick reply! I checked options with many resellers in states and some in Europe too, so the money save limit doesn't exceed 100 dollars :) I looked some flights to states, and it costs at least 800 $, and it takes 2-3 days to take the laptop and get back to Norway :) Sad that I don't have any good and trusty friends in USA.

    Regarding the P170HM fans;

I do not think that they are too loud, really. It is the uneven cycling that makes no sense, and is annoying. If I watch the Intel turbo tool, or HWMonitor, there is no apparent relationship with fan speed for the most part (unless you are obviously doing intensive stuff).

I also think that the laptop runs pretty cool; on AC power, with four threads chewing on prime95, the temps don't go above 75c and typically stay around 70c.

On battery, the system throttles back significantly - I am not sure if I like this or not. This is good for the battery, but if you need speed you MUST keep it on AC. The difference is crazy for CPU processing and video.

There are no controls for the fans in the very simplified BIOS.

BTW, while I am in a whining mood, is it just me or does this integrated 2M webcam suck?

Maybe I am just used to external webcams (I own the MS Lifecam Cinema - which works fine on this laptop), but I am not sure if I am ever seeing better than 15FPS with the built-in.

Wait what? Fn+1 = max fan speed. It is loud. Otherwise the fans are fine. I agree with the cycling that doesn't make much sense either. Not sure what they're measuring to determine fan speed.

This machine really wasn't meant to run on battery other than basic tasks. If they didn't throttle CPU / GPU speeds you'd end up with like 15 minutes of battery life. I look at it as a failsafe backup if anything.

Hi everyone! I have a question about the hdd caddy.

If I got a 7200 hard drive within an hdd caddy and put in the NP8170, would it be running at SATA II 3Gb/s or just SATA I 1.5Gb/s?

(As long as its a SATA II or capable hard drive)

If you put it in the Optical bay in a caddy it will run at SATA II speeds. The two native HDD spots are SATA III capable.

Hi HT...for me the Fn +1 is the touchpad power toggle.

    This is a P170HM sold through Pro-Star / M-Tech.

According to the manual, no other Fn keys are for the fan....

So is it also confirmed that if you opt for the 6300 Wireless card then there is no BT? Just curious because some sites list the 8170 as having an internal BT adapter.. I am thinking this is referring to the stock wireless card or the 6230 option?
