Used to idle at 38° C. Now it idles at 32° C. I have the 460M though. I found that one screw was a little loose and tightened that corner but the rest were already tight.

Doesn't make any difference for load temps really though. One day, I will have to apply some new thermal compound and see if it makes a difference.

Like the other guy said, the key is to raise the back of the laptop with a stand or something. It's too bad laptop manufacturers don't build flip out stands into their laptops like keyboard manufacturers do. It seems to make perfect sense to me. It is practically a keyboard and the angle would help typing and also cooling.

I actually believe it is ergonomically better to have keyboards slanted away from you.

Yes it is, but nobody makes keyboards that way and for me, it's worse to have the keyboard perfectly flat because there is reduced dexterity.

For me, even more important than ergonomics of my wrists for typing, is the height of the display. For me, the closer the display is to eye-level, the more comfortable and ergonomic it is for my spine and neck which is much more important. At your typical desk or table in a sitting position, the laptop screen is much lower than eye level and you end up staring down at it hunched over with your neck bent instead of looking straight ahead.

For me, getting a notebook cooling stand with a very high incline makes both typing easier and raises the height of the display considerably.

A few pages back I posted a video problem I had with the computer where the visuals would become distorted, the screen would go black and come back on a few seconds later and it would say "The NVIDIA display driver has stopped working (270.51). Windows has successfully recovered the driver.

Since then, I upgrade the driver version to .61. All has been fine til 10 minutes ago. Just doing some usual website browsing when the screen randomly turned black and the same message appeared. Within 5 minutes, the visuals became heavily distorted for a good minute, then went black and displayed the message. 30 seconds later it did the same thing. Now I'm typing this out.

Has anyone else experienced this? I overclocked to a stable level a while ago (before upgrading driver versions) but reverted back to default as I thought that may have been the reason. So, right now, the card is stock.

Ooh... I would get that checked out. A while ago I remember using an Nvidia card in which I Oced. Went black Once from being unstable(I believe) and crashed. After that incident the card for some reason had problems in which it wasn't as efficient as before. I'm not saying thats the case with your problem and theres a good chance it might not be but I would still check it out.

That error has come up occasionally on other machines, but tends to go away after driver updates. In your case, it's possible the overclock may have made the chip run less stable now on stock settings. You could try undervolting it and seeing if running on lower clocks fixes it to be sure.

First I'd try a clean install of the latest Nvidia drivers though to be sure. It's possible something of the old drivers was left behind and is causing problems (this is the more likely scenario anyway)

The OC was minimal, within what others mentioned as stable. CC was at 620 and the MC at 1540. I shall try a clean install of the driver.

^ Yeah, looks like the caddy is about half inch thick, which is very close to 12.5mm. Ordered 1TB WD for $110. Thanks!

    Hi guys!

Damn I am enjoying my P150HM ;D this thing is QUICK. Especially with the vertex 3 is USED TO OWN. It broke down after exactly one week of usage. So thats a bummer. I have to wait for 2 weeks to get it back from RMA. Now I have to work with a stupid 5400 rpm disk again. Imagine the boot time going back to 1+ minute, where it used to be 10 seconds.

For that HDD caddy, I just bought one from ebay for 8$, works perfectly! Its just a piece of aluminum with some conectors, so never pay like 50 bucks or anything...

To make the laptop even more complete I bought a Mad Catz call of duty mouse, looks perfect! I have a pretty sick setup right now, especially with my HD25-1 ii headphones ;D I'm curious about the setup you guys have! You must own some other hardware as well...

Just ordered my P150HM from Pro-star.

    Specs:
    i7-2630qm
    GTX 485M
    Seagate Hybrid Drive 500GB/4GB SSD
    Glossy screen
    Intel Ultimate-N 6300 Wifi
    IC Diamond Thermal Compound
8X DVD(Blu-ray was just 30$ but never use it :))

Price $1994 could get it for $1934 if Wire transfer, but my uncle didnt want to :) I guess it was a good price anywas as its about $3100 in my country.

I was going to get the Matte screen, but only hours before they removed the option to select it. Made me kinda sad but im gonna use it mostly with my external 120Hz monitor anyways.

I will probably get it June 3rd, as my uncle is going from the US to Norway then. If he dont have room for it i will go to US June 22, so ill make a short review at that time :)

Please excuse my bad english :)

You chose the free matte display correct? I noticed Mythlogic is the only Clevo seller that will give u a free upgrade to the regular matte display, and they have the 95% matte for an additonal charge. I'm still trying to figure out matte versus glossy, and if I do want matte is the standard one at mythlogic cheap or?

i find this thread to be very helpful when it comes to drivers: Clevo Driver Thread :) but yeah, im not really sure if he really meant 2.1.34.0 or maybe 2.0.34.0 (which was the previous driver version), since i wasnt able to find 2.1.34.0 either! usually one can find the newest drivers at the Station-Drivers website.

    cheers

Yes, the Intel recall was back in January/February for the sandy bridge chipset. However, this was only a recall that affected chipset manufacturers. End users only had their boards replaced (that shipped before the recall) after Intel introduced the new B3 stepping and ramped up production of the fixed boards.

For Sager, that means that the few customers that got their laptops before the initial recall are now getting notice to send their products in for replacement.

hello all, joining the sager club.
    Purchased from Xoptic Pc
    i7-2630QM
    4GB RAM
    6970m
    500GB HDD

I'm really happy with this machine, so far the only issue I'm having with it is the screen turning black with a glitching sound buzz after gaming. This only happens after gaming for a while and only during loading or exiting/menu screens never during actually game play. Anyone else experience this?

I'm Also wondering if those Clevo driver threads work for sager too?

could be. the article is 6 months old, and although they did mention it is a hrdware issue, nvidia couldve resolved it with the 485m or even have a driver fix. i think i remember reading something about mulitmonitor fixes in some of the recent drivers...
the only way to find out is do a gpu-z test yourself. i would but i dont have my hdtv with me right now.
i am interested as i am thinking of upgrading to a brand new led tv soon.

Just any old SATA 12.5mm optical drive to hdd caddy should work. Most resellers have them available extra, and you can find them on various other sites like ebay, amazon, etc. It's a fairly standard part because that 12.5mm size is the same across most non-slot-loading machines out there (slot loads are totally different though).

You really only need to check that you're getting a SATA model and that it's a standard 12.5mm height (and not IDE/PATA). Other than that it's just a matter of swapping the old bezel off the optical drive, attaching it to the caddy, installing the HDD, and slotting the caddy in/mounting with the one retaining screw.

Just wanted to jump in and say I am now the proud owner of this wonderful machine.

config is the basic i7, 8gig ram, 300gb SSD, ati 6970, another 500gb hard drive, external blu ray.

I ordered in mid april from XoticPC, then opted for the free upgrade to 8gig of ram which would add about a week of build time or so. I am overseas so I had to transfer money and wait for it to arrive so they started on my order sometime around april 22nd or so. anyway it was shipped on May 11th and got to me may 21st.

question i have is regarding the video driver. I dowloaded the recent 11.5 ati catalyst to update my video. As part of this process, I uninstalled the video driver first, then ran the new driver installation. the program came back saying it could not recognize the video adapter. Anyway I got the driver on the utility disk so no worries there, but my question is why can't i use the official ati drivers? I was unaware that this card needed specific drivers from the laptop vendor.... is this always going to be the case or is this just for now cuz the cards are still 'new' or something?

    Thanks!

    Check out this thread

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/577183-amd-catalyst-mobility-whql-11-5-hotfix.html

You need to get specific drivers from the site to work on that machine. This should let you update to 11.5

    hi there,

I can confirm that the problem has been fixed using this utility:
    [Fix][INFO]Dual Monitor downclocking fix for nvidia cards - Overclock.net - Overclocking.net

Hope this helps anyone else who has ramping fans with secondary monitor plugged in

    hey guys

in case anyone is interested: did some temp. testing yesterday, comparing OCZ Freeze with IC Diamond 24 Carat. applied both on the gpu and cpu using the credit card method. in the case of ICD i waited for 30 min. in order for any organic solvent residues to vaporize before installing the heat sinks. i tested with Furmark 1.9.0 (full HD res, post processing, dynamic background + camera enabled, extreme burn-in mode, AA + AF on max. for 20 min.) and Prime95 26.5 Build 5 (In-place large FFTs, 8 threads for 20 min.) with fans on max. (fn+1 enabled), the back of my laptop raised for better air circulation / cooling and my 485m gpu oc'ed to 625/1250/1640 (the reason for it being my standard setup during gaming sessions :) ). ambient temperature was relatively stable at around 24-25C (used a digital thermometer) and i set fn+1 to bring gpu and cpu idle temps down to 36C / 35.25C (avg. on all 4 cores), respectively to have comparable reference / starting points of measurement right before stress testing. anyways, these were my results (HWInfo 3.73, max. temps):

    OCZ Freeze: CPU - 67.75C / GPU - 86C
    ICD 24: CPU - 68.25 / GPU - 85C

All in all, not much difference at first glance, although i must say that gpu temps under Furmark were climbing considerably slower with ICD whereas CPU temps were far more stable with OCZ Freeze. Im not sure tho if ICD would need any "burn-in" time before developing its full thermal conductive potential? i know that this is definitely not the case for OCZ Freeze, just apply, install that sink right away and off u go. application wise, OCZ Freeze is definitely the better choice with ICD just loving to stick EVERYwhere except the chip ure trying to paste it with (credit card, fingers, wiping cloth, etc.) ;)

    cheers

    Hi people,

Glad to see many 8150 users now..
I'm planning to buy a 8150-S1 (love the 6970!) myself as well, can't wait to join u guys =)

Planning to upgrade to Intel 2720, Wifi Intel 6300 Ultimate & Seagate 500GB Hybrid Drive.
If I more cash to spare, I'd afford the screen upgrade as well XD

However, before I decide to purchase this beast, may I ask if there are any problems that you guys experienced so far with the rig?

I live in Asia and I decide to buy from GenTech, so warranty will be a problem for me.
Therefore, please specify me how long you have been using 8150 and state any problems that you have so that I could be ready for any problems if anything happens(touch wood!) ;)

    Thank you =)

I personally wouldn't buy it overseas since no computer is free from problems. I've had a couple of very minor problems
    1. The USB 3.0 ports don't play well although it's mainly a software issue
    2. The graphics card makes a feint high pitch hissing sound although it seems to be common problem with any graphics card. Not really that big of a deal.
    3. I suspect there's some noise coming from the headphone jack that I can barely hear when I have my speakers plugged in.

This sir, is a very good find. Rep for you :D !

I thought it was weird that I have my fans ramping up all the time when both are connected. Now my GPU can rest during idle moments with dual Monitors

I just tested it last night and couldn't be happier. Downclocked during idle and high clocks during gameplay or video playback. There's even threshold levels for auto clocking. Now my laptop runs silent :D ! Although...my Firefox seems a bit tacky in P12 power mode.

Shut up and take my money!

In all seriousness, can current owners get the upgrade for that price? Could I order the screen from my reseller/any reseller and install it myself? I know MALIBAL offers me free upgrade labor, but I'd like to keep both screens if I did.
