I haven't logged in for a while due to having my communications cut off for about 3 weeks where I'm at, but I received my Mythlogic-built P150HM and am very happy with it.

Everything I was expecting was there and works fine. I've had no reportable problems as of yet. Everything was packed very nicely, and I will have to say that I'm most impressed with the matte 95% gamut screen so far. The only thing that will take getting used to is the smaller size of the laptop as I'm coming from a much more hefty 17" 1920x1200 machine.

I've been reading what everyone else has been complaining about so far, and I would like to say to the average consumer (which I consider myself to be) that anything that has been complained about so far is very meticulous nitpicking (not that there is anything wrong with doing that with such an expensive product). I'm just saying, don't freak out and cancel your order over it. If you're like me, you will be more than impressed. This is much better than anything you can get OTS at your local Best Buy and worth the investment.

I don't have an outside internet connection for another month, but I've played the games that I have with me that don't require online activation - Crisis and Dragon Age: Origins. Both are very beautiful and seamless at max settings. I get minor screen ripping on Crisis, but I always did on every other system as well.

The heat is not a problem either. It is less intensive then my last laptop (Gateway p-7805u) and it all gets blown out the back through the vents. The laptop itself doesn't get all that hot. I only have to make sure I don't place my drink near the vents so that its stays cold.

I really like the laptop, and the only thing I'm thinking about changing is getting some custom skins made for the lid. Mythlogic put a very nice graphic above the keyboard that I really like.

It's also hard to believe, but I'm starting to get annoyed with explaining to people what this laptop is and how the whole ODM/OEM/reseller thing works. I'm almost to the point that I don't care about whether people know that its as powerful as it is. My buddy actually thought that I had traded in my old laptop for something less expensive until I explained it. I still don't think he understands.

    @matthis512

no communications for 3 weeks? where do you live pakistan? :p

but your absolutely right about nitpicking. i like everything about the laptop, some things arent the best, but they work for me. and really, if you could configure something like this in a more consumer oriented brand it would probably cost 3000usd or more.
regarding your friend's ignorance dont explain, just fire up something like crysis or shogun2 and show him what you mean.

Download Rivatuner, then go to its Start menu folder and run D3DOverrider. Set both Vsync and Triple Buffering to Yes. Set it to start with Weindows.

You'll never have screen tearing again.

Sager Techsupport suggested that I should install a fresh windows 7. After that, test and check the sleep/resume issue.

Guys, any size comparison pictures/video's out there so that I can get an idea of how large the NP8150 is? If not, any of you good users care to maybe post some up? Just after it next to some other sized laptops.

Since I found most of the valuable information for ordering a computer on this site, I'd like to state what specs I ordered (shipped-arrive early next week i hope?) to help others!

    • Mallibal Lotus P150HM
    • 2720QM
    • Glare Screen
    • ATI 6970 card
    • Intel 6230 a/b/g/n card with bluetooth
    • 500 gb/7200 rpm drive
    • hard drive caddy for optical bay - purchased c300 from newegg when it was on special a week or two ago (128 gb)
    • 4 gb (2 sodimm) from malibal - picked up another 8 gb from newegg last week.... 12 gb 1330 laptop ram. I think the memory was crucial?
    • logitech g700 mouse ordered
    • ASUS RT-N56U 802.11a/b/g/n Dual Band router (ordered) since I have had wireless-G in my old computer. Need the speed for xbox360!

Will update on anything interesting over the coming month for others interested. Did a lot of research on the mouse and router recently - let you guys know if they are as expected!

Has anyone gone through XoticPC's "0 Dead Pixel" warranty process? I received my unit yesterday and was sad to find a stuck pink pixel as soon as I turned it on. I opted for no Operating System, so just stared at a black screen with one annoying imperfection for so long (hoping it would disappear). By the way, this is on the 95% matte screen.

On the bright side, I did purchase the dead pixel warranty, so I should be covered. However, I'm wondering what's the turn around time. Another 3 to 4 week wait? My understanding is the whole unit is replaced per XoticPC's website, anyone?

I don't have another lappy I could compare to, but I was able to dig this up from earlier in the forum:

    Flickr: meraki1990's Photostream

Its not much, but hopefully It can help you out some. Personal opinion its the size of your typical 15 inch, but a bit bigger then the envy since the envy is pretty slick.

In my review in my sig, there's a comparison with a 10" inch netbook I have...although that's a different sort of perspective in sizes.

Many thanks for this, not quite what I was after, but at least gave me a pretty good idea about thickness with the credit card shot.

A great review, a fairly extreme difference in laptop sizes used for the size compare :)

Its funny, been crawling the net for some comparison shots, and found absolutely nothing. Normally doesn't take long for shots to be found.

Great pictures, many thanks for that. Size wise it seems very comparable to other normal 15" laptops. It is more chunky, forgiveable considering how much horsepower is packed under the hood...

    Very tempted now...

Anyone have temperature readings to share for 6970M?

Mine is like around 86 'C without Fn+1.

Is this normal? Mine is a tropical climate though.

Temps of 86C under load in a tropical climate is likely fine assuming the game you were playing is reasonably GPU intensive. You will probably find better temps if you elevate the back of the laptop though.

I already have an aluminum cooler shaped like Notepal U3. I also installed the same fans from U series. Guess what, I dun see any difference in the temps.

I think the fans from U series is really too freaking weak to help at all.

That is why i am wondering if a very high CFM fans will help better?

I dun wish to Fn+1 while i playing.

It is not about the fans, it is about how much you raise the back of the laptop. You can have an aluminum cooler with or without fans but only the one that raises the laptops back more will make any significant difference.

So essentially buying a cooler is a waste of money for this laptop? What about more expensive versions such as the Cryo?

its not a waste but the first thing you have to figure out is whether the cooler fans are lined up with the intake vents of the laptop. next you have to get a cooler with sufficient cfm to cool the laptop.
the two most popular seem to be the cryo lx and the cm sf19.
i have an sf19 which i have not taken out of the box because, really, propping the laptop and fn+1 (if ever) is all you need.
if the fn+1 noise annoys you, rest assured that a cooler that will provide sufficient airflow will sound even louder.

I am not really worried about the sound.

I am more worried whether excessive usage of Fn+1 will kill off these fans early.

valid point although i havent seen anyone in the clevo forums complain about failing fans.
i think your best bet if you really wanna go the cooler route, would be to actually get an sf19 or cryo lx as others have proven them to be effective with this laptop.

Well... I just joined the club :).
Ordered my NP8150-S1 on friday, 6th may, from xoticpc.
As I am from Europe I'm sure it will take some time... considering I wired the money yesterday :)... no rush anyway as I will be on vacation for 2 weeks.
Just wanted to ask if anyone knows how long it takes for money to reach US from Europe...

    My config:

    - Display: 15.6” FHD 16:9 LED Backlit Wide screen (1920x1080) Super Clear Glare Type Screen
    - Processor: -2nd Generation Intel® Core™ i7-2720QM
    - Thermal Compound: - IC Diamond Thermal Compound - CPU + GPU
    - Graphics Video Card: nVidia GeForce GTX 485M 2,048MB
    - Ram: 8,192MB DDR3 1333MHz Dual Channel Memory
    - Exterior Finish: Standard Finish
    - Optical Drive: ~Combo 8x8x6x4x Dual Layer DVD +/-R/RW 5x DVD-RAM 24x CD-R/RW Drive w/Software
    - Primary Hard Drive: ~ 500GB 7200RPM (Serial-ATA II 300 - 16MB Cache)

This would be my first Sager/high performance notebook :).
BTW, looking to replace the HDD with a Vertex 3 or Intel 510 ...256Gb.

    I got my 8150 yesterday. RMA'ing this sh!t.

Paying $210 for a screen upgrade and getting it with dead pixels is the shafting I'm just not ready to take. (1 vertical cluster of 3 dead pixels in top left corner).

As far as I know XoticPc does upgrade themselves and knowingly putting in defective LCD is just unacceptable. I probably wouldn't care if it didn't cost extra $210 though.

Anyone knows where I can get A+ 15.6" Matte Type w/ 95% Color Gamut online? I'll most likely reorder it with stock screen and get an upgrade LCD separately. (Should've done that in the first place).

So ive had mine for awhile now, mid april, which isnt bad considering I suppose :).

Anyway, I have a few questions regarding a few things that really didnt cross my mind before purchasing, or has since come up. Let me first say that I absolutely love this laptop, Def do not regret the purchase in the least. No dead pixels, very solid, great performance, no big issues thus far*

(except for a slight persisting one, which is causing me to BSOD and/or disabling all usb drives randomly during use. Recently completely removed all drives on the computer and reinstalled so far with success, but not comfortable to say its solved yet, If this is a common or known issue please link me to a thread on it and i would appreciate it.) -- but I digress

While answering the questions please keep in mind that im a VERY avid gamer, and its safe to say that I use this computer 8-10 hours a day on average.

    Specs:
    i7-2720QM // 8gig RAM // 485m //320GB SATA II 3Gb/s 7,200 HD

1.) This is the first laptop I've owned, and considering the high specs, im wondering if i should be concerned at all about the longevity of the system when compared to desktops? And anything I should keep in mind regarding it. What are acceptable temps idle / load and for what periods of time.

2.) Keyboard. First, it really is a NICE keyboard for a laptop. Im a bit concerned about the longevity of the keyboard, however. Didnt really read up to much about it. All I can find spec wise is "gaming wasd keys" which means they put red arrows on the keys, which is.....umm.....special? But really I use this thing so much im concerned about wearing out keys to quickly, having them break, unresponsive, etc. Can anyone share some insight into my concerns?
(obv when i get a few bucks to finish my setup ill mostly be using usb keyboard for gaming, but for now i am primarily using they keyboard, and Starcraft2 is not so kind to the average keyboard.)

I Know these 2 questions somehow got a bit long-winded, but thanks for the replies guys.

Wow, mine is on the way now from Xotic, I should get it Thursday. I got the upgraded screen as well, I'd be upset too if I waited so long (6 weeks in my case) and it was defective out of the box. Especially 3 pixels together, that should have been caught in Nebraska. Xotic has been great so far and kept me notified as backordered parts held things up, but the one thing that I'm concerned about is that some of the other resellers seem to spend more time testing the hardware. With Xotic I'm getting the sense from you and some other similar complaints that they slap the new screen in and maybe power it on for a second to make sure it lights up, and then off it goes. They'll give you a line about how it must have happened on the truck, which is possible, but it would still suck to have to wait another few weeks to get it straightened out just when you thought you were done waiting.

You must haven't tried good keyboards if you say that. My Asus N10Jh netbook keyboard is waaay better than this one. The feel of a key click of NP8150 keyboard is really lacking. The build might be good though. It's the keys response that feels sh!tty to me. But oh well... Can never get everything perfect.

I'm 90% sure they'll slap in A- LCD in your laptop if you didn't get "0 dead pixels policy". That's how they get rid of lower grade LCDs and not lose money. Keep us posted though. Maybe I'm one of the few who got unlucky.

Let me clear up the testing post that have been made above. ANY unit that come to us for a screen upgrade is tested for 24 hours with the new screen installed. It is not in our interests or a part of our business practices to "slap" components in systems. Any component installed by us is carefully installed and tested.

If a Dead Pixel guarantee is purchased we scrutinize the screen to ensure there are 0 screen defects, just as Sager. If the guarantee is not purchased we ensure the screen falls into the standard dead pixel guarantee, again just as Sager does. The 15.6" screens have had the best success rate for no dead pixels. If a screen has any issues outside of our Standard Pixel Guarantee or 0 Dead Pixel Guarantee it is discarded/replaced at that point and retested.

I am sorry to hear some have received dead pixels on their screen. I understand it is frustrating.

@4st3risk If you would like to set up a RMA and switch the screen out we would be happy to work with you on it. We have recently discounted the dead pixel warranty on the 15.6" 95% Gamut to $40.

As others have said if you order one from a International Supplier the odds are not on your side for getting a 0 DP Screen.

Hrrm, I suppose we just disagree. While i may not have used a ton of laptop keyboards, i have used quite a few. As well as most $100+ aftermarket gaming usb keyboards. While the keyboard may not be quite to that level, I do find the keys to be very responsive. Touch/press is kinda preferrence, but I am really like the keypress on this keyboard too. Albeit not perfectly ideal for gaming, as say a mechanical keyboard.

    what justin said.
ive owned two sagers and had this one shipped overseas. i got the 0 dead pixel warranty not for the return policy but for the added QA that comes with, significantly reducing the risk of dead pixels and such.
the first sager i bought, i got from their factory and the screen was also perfect.
he just offered you an rma so your problem is solved.
also i disagree with your assessment of the kb. i find it to be quite good for typing, and gaming, once you get used to the spacing.
if theres something thats 'wrong' with the laptop its the rubbery trackpad. but personally, i dont mind its 'sticky' feel and buttons.

Ah, sorry Justin, I totally missed that he didn't get the warranty. In my case I did purchase it because I wanted to avoid exactly what happened here. I saw a post somewhere on XoticPC’s forums that said they check the ones with the dead pixel warranty more thoroughly than they do for the people who don’t buy it, so when I thought he had paid for the warranty, yet still got a panel with dead pixels I was concerned.

    1. i live in tropical country so im always monitoring temps to keep on the safe side. i prop up my laptop with a bottlecap and use fn+1 when temps get into the low 80's(rarely). idle temps hardly matter to me, but try to keep both your gpu and cpu below 85.
    2. i can say that the kb on the 2 sagers i own are quite sturdy but it all depends on your style of use. pounding on a kb for 8-10 hours will wear out any laptop kb over time imho. but the sager kb would probably last longer than most. im not sure about the prices of good external keyboards vs a sager kb replacement, but they would definitely be easy to replace if you do wear them out.
