AFAIK, the only actual shortage for the 8150 is the 485 card and the increasing chance that resellers may soon be running out of the aftermarket replacement screens due to the manufacturer of them discontinuing that product line.
If you can live with the ATI and stock screen, there should be no issue unless you want some aftermarket mods done (lights, paint, etc). Honestly, the nVidia 485 is not really worth the $250 upgrade price if you don't absolutely need it (most benchmarks put them neck and neck.... and I'm an nVidia fan, so take that for what it's worth).
If you decide down the line you want a different card or aftermarket screen, most resellers will either sell it you for home replacement or offer a return service so they can do the work for you (ask your sales rep on the phone; kicking myself because that's one thing I forgot to ask about).
BTW - Just noticed on XoticPC's site that the 8150 now comes preconfigured with the ATI 6970; 460 is no longer offered, it appears.
-
My battery is still fairly new but 3hours isnt "bad" for this powerful a machine I don't think... -
cheers -

I think we're all talking about the NP8150-S1 rather than the base 8150.
-
Iterested in that matte screen posted above with 95% color gamut. I just ordered a matte screen on my np8150-s1. is your scree really an aftemarket of the same Sager matte offered as a choice?

Just a note...the MATTE screen shipping with the NP8150 S-1 is the AU OPTRONICS B156HW01 V0 (H/W:0A). Most users seem to really like this screen.

NP7280 is model Hannstar 173PUW1 series
NP8170 is model LP173WF1-TLC1 by LG
NP8150 is model AU OPTRONICS B156HW01 V0 (H/W:1A)
NP8130 MATTE is model AU OPTRONICS B156HW01 V1 (H/W:0A)
The NP8150 S-1 (MATTE) uses the same screen as the above NP8130

i have an extra B156HW01 V.0.. it's glossy
-
Yuck, I still can't believe Clevo went with the LP173WF1-TLC1. That particular LG is likely the worst 1080p LED available.
Why aren't they utilizing the superior Hannstar, in the more popular model? -
Got my Sager 8150-S1 on Friday. The 95% color gamut matte screen is awesome!
A few niggles with the system. The speakers are crap they sound like they are inside a tin can. My 7 year old Dell was better and that did not have anything special. Also the keyboard is hard to the touch it's a weird feeling and teh layout will take some adjusting to.
PowerDVD doesn't work no serial number and I can't get tech support because the serial# on the laptop is not in Sagers system and I can't get anyone on the phone because you need the right serial number.
Kinda bites when you have problems that Tech support could solve but you can't talk to them because you aren't in the system.
The Sager needs external speakers otherwise mp3's and Youtube nevermind anything else will sound so tinny that it's painful. I can't test DVD's yet because there is a problem and it won't play.
I guess I'm the only one with these problems, but the system itsel is very nice if only I could get it to work correctly. -
When I had the Asus G53JW, I went through something similar with the speakers. I turned on the THX software and it completely enhanced the output of the machine. Give it a shot if you haven't. Just don't expect mind blowing lows.
As for PowerDVD, did you give Xotic a call?
Keep us posted. -
Yes turned on THX, not much difference, spoke to Sager tech support for a bit and their tech i shouldn't expect much from such tiny speakers and that i should have bought the 8170 instead.
I did call Xotic PC and sent an email and sent a forum message. I was told by their tech support that it takes up to 2 weeks for everything to get into the system. That's not good if you have a problem.
The problem is that my serial # isn't in Sagers system and that is the one on the bottom of the laptop. I'm hoping by tomorrow it will be allsorted out. I never had these problems with Dell. I almost bought an Alienware. My 7.5 year old Dell with it's stock speakers sounds significantly better than a brand new Sager. That wasn't an XPS or anything just an Inspiron.
I figure THX out to sound better than that or at least as good. Went to Hulu and watched some clips, looks like I won't use this laptop for Hulu unless I buy external speakers and I'm no audiophile either. -
That up to two weeks window for S#'s to show up in their systems is terrible to say the least. By then you are half way through your point of no return.
I almost bought an Alienware myself too, but then I remembered Dell's atrocious customer service. At one point, I called to place an order from their outlet department, and was transferred for about 2 hours through different departments. Never again! -
I would have upgraded myself the ram and hdd, stock wireless on p150hm is fine. I guess you went with -s1.
Good choice on going with 2630 and 6970 thoenjoy your notebook.

Yeah I hope they make it right but the THX didn't help much at all. I was hoping I could use this laptop for more than my last old Dell, but it's poor speakers ruin watching anything even YouTube. I'm hoping they can sort it out....
No idea why they are taking so long to transfer stuff to tech support. I guess I just had bad luck with Sager.
Dell's CS is awful but when it comes to quality laptops there are only a few that really stand out.
I thought the THX would make it sound pretty good but no, as you say like earphones in a tin can. I did adjust it a bit and now it's better, but my 3 year old cheap cell phone has more bass than this over $2K Sager!
So far I've had no real help in fixing it, the bored tech at Sager just sat on the phone until I asked him if he was still there. He said nothing can be done, that was pretty much it for Sager tech support. I'm a bit worried that this sort of thing will continue into the future with Sager.
The screen is drop dead sweet, but I have to decide if I send this back.
I'm that ticked that tech support can't be bothered to help with a brand new machine. I'd expect this from Dell but not Sager.
I don't want a 17" machine, nor do I want a glossy screen.
So no overpriced Dell with an Alienware sticker on it.
But I'm really unhappy with this situation. -

Check out the review he posted up (the first link in his signature). In the review, you'll find he posted a youtube video demonstrating the audio of the machine. Is it anywhere near that or the same? Maybe compare audio settings.
Just an idea. -
you do have to play with the thx settings a bit to get the sound you want. but really, it is definitely above par, speaker-wise.
if you are not getting the bass, then it could be that it got disconnected. but before considering that possibility be sure to try thx and equalizer settings in your chosen media player.
even with my old 8690 (which also had the chicklet k/b), i have never had major issues with its usability. of course it takes getting a little used to at the start, but the layout grows on you. in fact id rate it equal to the macbook k/b.
i cant really comment on that cyberlink thingy since i uninstalled it, but cyberlink is a really, really good product. hope you get it to work. -
I listened to his video but since mine is tinny everything is tinny even videos I myself have on YouTube that I know how they sound.
I'm going to hope that I can get tech support today because if I continue to get the sort of help Sager's tech gave me I'd have to send this unit back. That guy was worse than Dell. I can see now why people don't buy from Sager directly. -
There are no equalizer setting on mine at all. I have no bass that is adjustable and the sound is not good at all. The tech I spoke with at Sager was less than helpful. I guess the speakers are not important to them. They guy would just stop talking and until I asked him if he was there he would have sat on the phone all day saying nothing.
I don't even have a valid serial # yet!
I can't get tech support from XoticPC yet, which i hope changes today. Sager told me there wereno settings and nothing they can do, it is what it is. The guy even said he didn't know why they put THX on it!
The Bass is almost non-existant.
The Chicklet keyboard is very new to me and the DEL and END keys are poorly located and I actually have to look for them, but that would be true of any new keyboard. My spelling and grammar have taken a big hit unless I go over the whole of what I've typed and correct it.
That's not Sagers fault that's just a new layout.
If I cranked this up enough to hear in my room my ears would bleed. my wife doesn't want to give up the external speakers she is using for her iPod but she might have to since the only thing the Sager 8150 speakers are good for is bleeps and bloops. As long as the bloops aren't to deep.
Now this might be correctable and if it is I will certainly post that it is fixed but they need to find a bit of bass in this machine. I don't expect incredible bass but I need to be able to at least turn the treble down 90%. -
You are sure you have pressed FN+5 to enable THX on your laptop right? I didn't see you or anyone mention that and you are sure you have activated it online too I assume. -
My THX TruStudio says there aren't any supported audio devices found. Anyon else have the same problem?
-
Make sure you've activated THX online also.
TBH i think the speakers sound crap even with THX. Wasn't expecting anything more though tbh, i always use headphones with a laptop.
I also notice that i get a lot of sound biased towards the right speaker on the laptop, for all sound sources. If i want a better balance i have to use the L/R balance in the Realtek control panel. -
There is no Fn +5 nothing happens although it is turned on and after several hours the issue is sort of resolved. I am having to use the equalizer inside of whatever program I use to alter the sound enough to be bearable and that is working.
My version is enabled from the task bar but not Fn +5 and Fn +F5 is the volume.
Either way it's on and it's working. The speakers are small and not great but we did reload the drivers and got a new update from the RealTek website and it's significantly better now. -
Yeah the speakers could be a lot better for an over $2K laptop.
I have the same problem with the right spealer sounding more biased.
It's going to take about 2 days for Sager to put my serial # back into the system. No idea why they deleted my serial # and all tech suppport is through the serial #.
Sucks to call up and find out your new Laptop doesn't exist. -

@Steve Cebu:
Did you fixed your speaker problem then?
I had a thinny sounding speaker after unboxing, but after the Realtek drivers then it started working better as well. In the Realtek Audio options, I also had the 5.1 surround option for the NP8150's speakers, alongside the THX.
But now it seems that your speakers incorrectly aligned themselves...a lemon maybe? -
So far it looks like the issue is resolved. Problem was it needed the updated RealTek drivers and I tried everything but the drivers really made a difference and they came out in early April.
This combined with using the equalizer in iTunes makes mp3's much better and a lot less tinny.
JP over at XoticPC really came through for me and really put in the time to make sure all the problems were resolved.
I now have it set to stereo instead of 5.1 and it's working as well as it's going to. -

my guess is he wants 3d and/or igp
-
Anyone else hear the high-pitch noise from the graphics card? I have the 485M. It's a very high frequency and thus very faint but annoying nonetheless.
-
Nope I don't hear it right now...
-
Also, the USB 3.0 ports keep dying on me on Windows. My mouse will be working for a while then the driver just crashes. Works fine on Linux. :\

http://www.station-drivers.com/tele...as_usb3_2.0.34.0(www.station-drivers.com).exe
First one is a firmware (don't connect anything on the ports when updating), second is the drivers. -
EDIT: I see mythlogic posted them before so I guess they should be safe. -
but the new ones work fine, i updated to those myself, altho i must say i havent really used my USB 3.0 ports yet, except with 2.0 devices
too bad were not allowed to ask, so let the speculations begin!
cheers -

sick. -
Hey everyone.
Ordered my NP8150 a week ago from LPC digital. When I track my order its listed as "in progress" I assume this means its still being built.
How long did everyone have to wait from the time of order? and is there a way to get a better idea of how far along my lappy is in the process from LPC digital?
I am without a computer at the moment and the wait is killing me. -
-
Your best bet is to contact Larry (babyhemi) directly. His replies are very prompt.
The typical Sager order lead-time is about 6-12 days from order receipt to ready for shipment. The last few weeks have seen some orders being filled on the shorter end of that range. -
It shipped!
So close, I can almost taste it. -
