Hey, can any of the owners let me know what quality the webcam can record in? Everywhere I look it's telling me it's 2 megapixels, but it won't tell me if it records in 720p or 480p or what.

At last, the reason of BSOD is found!

    SSD + AHCI = FAIL!

I had to go to bios, change sata mode from AHCI to IDE and reinstall Windows. Everything works perfectly, again, no reduce to WEI.

Hmm, my C300 SSD works fine in AHCI mode, without a single BSOD.

Pretty sure that the Tom's Hardware review was in fact the 6970 with SB.

It showed significantly worse battery life. Would those tests reflect the battery life of the actual laptop you think?

I talked to an xoticpc rep today, and he apparently didn't know either. He said he'd email sager to ask. If you're curious I could let you know when he lets me know...

The webcam takes pictures in 640x480 and takes movies at around 7-9 FPS.

Isn't 7-9 fps useless? And btw, do you match prices from other sellers?

Anyone else want to comment about this freezing thing in the main thread? no one posting about it in the owners lounge so how common is it?

As I stated, I did not experience a single freeze when I used this laptop.

I don't know what they are talking about, actually.

meraki--how long have you had your 8150? If you experience freezes later on, please keep us posted.

I was going to order the 8130 until I came across this issue. I am hoping the 8150 does not have the same problem or at least not to the same extent.

    anyone try:
    -running system file check
start, search for cmd, right-click, run as administrator, type sfc /scannow
    -run chkdsk
same as above except type chkdsk x: /f /r
replace x with your hdrive letter
    -metest86

for the freezing? to see if you come up with anything..

Since I decided to upgrade my hard drive to a SSD I noticed that they are cheaper on the NP8150-S1. For $400 more I get the better matte screen, 2720qm, 80gb ssd, 500gb 2nd hdd...Does this make sense? (When new graphics come out I will add those too).

Or should I only spend $150 to get the ssd/hdd combo on the 8130...damn I hate this debate and the long long wait for the laptop!

    Question for the expert:

If money is not an issue, should one get the Nvidia 485 and buy the this laptop now or wait for the ATI 6970?

I don't consider myself an expert, but I feel fully qualified to say that if money is not an issue than the Nvidia GTX 485m is the clear winner. Only thing is that the AMD 6970m seems to be so close to the 485m that it makes it hard to justify spending the extra money. So, money (i.e. price/performance) is the deciding factor for most, and since its not for you I would go with the 485m unless you particularly prefer AMD hardware.

It seems that this wait for the 6970m is going to be longer than people expected. Facts other than benches of engineering samples from various websites seem to be very elusive. One retailer on this forum went as far to say that it will be a couple of months while the others say it could be anytime soon.

Dude, my SF-19 came in today and I was not at all prepared for it. The box alone was 2ft by 1.5ft. This cooler is MASSIVE. They were not lying when they said "mammoth cooling surface". It's like I have a portable desk now. I don't think I even have a bag this will fit in, it's bigger than any 17" laptop bag. This will definitely be my "at home" cooling pad.

That said, it's fantastic. The fans push a ton of air, the USB hub is great, it puts a nice 3 inch rise on the laptop with a 1" incline, and the color changing LEDs and fan speed controls are nice touches.

Thanks for the suggestion, this thing is a BEAST.

I posted this in the 8170 owners lounge too, but since the 8150 will have a 6970 option eventually (IIRC), then I figured I might as well post it here too. This is just my opinion, and not a confirmed fact.

"I had a thought about when the 6970 was going to be available. Previously (like a month ago), we heard that Clevo was going to be testing it and putting it through QC and we should hear pricing information about it right about now. Then the intel hit the fan. At that point, a lot of people were saying "Well, at least with this delay I may be able to get a 6970 in my laptop", but after thinking about it I think that may backfire. I'm sure before the chipset fiasco, Clevo and Sager had their QC guys testing that unit to prepare it for mass production and distribution. However, I HAVE to think that now that they have copies of the revised chipset, that they have pulled ALL of their QC guys and testers off of the 6970 and have them all testing the new chipset to get it out as soon as possible. If thats true, then the 6970 will not be released while we are all waiting for our laptops, and we will be in the same boat we were in before this whole recall started. What do you guys think?"

Yeah the size was definitely shocking but its a plus considering you can position your laptop in a way where the fans will be directly blowing up into the air vents. Glad you like it!

I think when I wake up tomorrow I will get the 485m, and remove the matte screen option. I'll probably have it plugged into my 26" 720p Toshiba screen anyways >_<

Hey mobius how is that Hybrid HDD treating you? I may just change back to that instead of this combo drives. Also which wireless chip did you pick?

Pretty good actually. Not as fast as an SSD but fast enough for me.

As for my wireless chip, I didn't want to have to plug in a BT dongle since I use a Razer orochi mouse so I decided to go wth the 6230 with BT.

Hey guys, I'm thinking of getting an 80GB SSD as my primary boot drive and a 320GB + caddy in the optical bay. I'm not sure if storage will be an issue though. How much space will I have to load games on the SSD after the loading of the OS?

Will you be using Windows 7-64bit? If so, that takes up a bit more space, and you want to leave some reserve for it too, as Windows likes to gain a little weight over time. I'd say you should allot 35-40GB for Windows+misc small programs and files.

That's enough space for 4-6 games.

I would suggest a 500GB in the other bay, since it's not much more $.

... That really depends on the game, I believe Dragon Age Origins is taking up 25gigs for me and WOW used to take around the same... That would mean 1 game on top of windows.

Can someone please tell me what I need to buy to get SPDIF to work? I have used many optical cables, their all the same ones with the sqaure shaped head. Now the optical port on the 8150 is a combo port so I have no idea what I need to buy to be able to plug in a standard optical cable. So any ideas?

In other related sound information. Did you guys know this laptop supports BOTH 5.1 and 7.1 speaker setups? You have a total of 4 audio ports, and 3 of them are combo ports! right now I have my 7.1 system plugged into my laptop. This is crazy! Basically the mic port acts as a mic port and center subwoofer port, spdif acts as both spdif and side speaker port, and so on.

Also after doing some more digging apparently the onboard audio chip is a realtek 892, coming from my X58 desktop motherboard with the realtek 889 this one is MUCH louder and clearer, bass has alot more umph.

still contemplating this thing.. my only issue so far is that i noticed the 3.0 version has the 3.0 ports on the right side of the cooler while the 8150 has them on the left side......... lame. the included cable probably isn't long enough for that?

Yes it is and on the front end of the cooler you have these rubber things that hold the cable in place so it doesn't bother you. Its more than long enough for it to reach.

See you went with the Hybrid Drive and the 6230. Just to make sure I only went with the 6230 instead of the 6300 because of bluetooth, if you don't need the bluetooth the 6300 is faster. If you do then stick with the 6230. Glad you like your choices. Man I cannot begin to tell you how happy this device has made me lol.

    arg! i want mine!!

my current laptop is a POS lol.. it lags like crap if i try to tab out of sc2. i was monitoring temps on it (idle: proc is at 34c, HD at 43c, mainboard at 45c).. decided i wanted to see if i could make them go higher with having the comp still be useable.. didnt work very well lol. couldn;t get the proc or mainboard over like 50, and the hd stayed the same. i opened a video in youtube, and windowed sc2 (everything has to be on low settings).. it freaked out. then i manage to get a video playing in itunes. the videos stopped playing and sc froze... yay onboard graphics

Atleast you can play a game on your computer. I have to stick to simple flash games at most. I can't play videos at fullscreen even because it quality gets so jittery. I would consider my laptop the perfect student laptop. It doesn't have the capability to cause distractions.

Also, I officially went off the deep end. I had a dream about my Sager, or more specifically an email about it. I dreamed that I got an email from xotic saying that they were finally shipping orders and I would receive it. Then I woke up an hour later only to be disappointed.

I hope Malibal decides to offer the 95% color gamut screens for the 8150 before they ship. I figure if I'm already practically maxing it out, the screen is worth it. Granted not at more than 150-200 like at other resellers.
