I am just a casual gamer![]()
I don't even play WoW that much, but when i do i would like it to look nice![]()
I may consider crysis 2, but highly doubt it. If anything i would buy it for 60bucks on my xbox, rather than paying 500bucks for a better video card![]()
^^ probably going to get flamed for having an xbox lmao.
Yeah, i also took out the 8gb of ram and put in a better wireless card, saving me some moniesss.
I put in:
Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 - 802.11A/B/G/N Wireless LAN Module
And down to 4gb ram.
Price comes to:
$1487.32 CAD
Looking good![]()

Then may I ask why you are not opting for the np8130, which has better base configuration but without the GPU upgradeability option?
Choosing the np8130 will give you cheaper base prices, with better base components, such as 8GB RAM standard, and 500GB 7200RPM HDD.
If it helps, contact babyhemi, because he gave me some great quotes regarding barebones models, and his cash discounts were really great. -
I had no idea about the 8130.
I will have to look at that one.but does it come with a sandy bridge processor?
Ill look at it tomorrow morning and reply.fornow I am going to bed.
But if that notebook is cheaper by all means I'll check it out. -
Take a look at the model, and update the new specs! -
Yes it comes with a sandy bridge processor. Like meraki said above, with the 8130 you start out with 8GB of ram, 500GB HDD, and a matte screen (if you prefer matte) for about $100 less than the base 8150 which starts with 4GB, etc...
-
-
The obvious one is that the 8150 has the capability to power a higher-end GPU like the 485m, and the 6970m when it comes out too. The 8130 can't do that.
I think someone on here said that the 8150 had better cooling on it, but I've to see this actually confirmed. It could have been and I just missed it.
The 8150 is rubberized and the 8130 is high-end plastic. The rubberized surface helps against fingerprints and such. Some people think that the surface and higher PSU is enough for the increase in price. Others, like myself, have no intention of upgrading the GPU so the 8130 works out to be the perfect laptop (even pricewise). -
Could someone with the 8150 please weigh the power brick (resellers?) ? TIA
-
This better cooling you comment, would it only make diference for the more power consuming GPU's, or would it be a problem with the standard 460M?
And just to confirm, that is the only diference?
Im new here but very happy to have found this reviews, thx you all.
And as i'm new in this gaming laptop world can someone recomend the better sites to buy this kind pc's plz.(so i can take a look around at prices etc... thx again) -
Ah forgot to add, i saw sager sell notebooks in their own site, what would be the difference buying from them or chosing a reseller?
-
I know i'm not an intense gamer, but i would rather spend the extra 100-200bucks to get something that has the potential to be upgraded, that way it would last a little longer.
I am trying to decide what to do here now that these two laptops are on the table. But here is the configuration i got on the 8130:

They are very close, and the finish on the 8130 is something i am concerned about. I don't like fingerprint magnets, but i don't mind them either.
And just if this would change anything, the only other game i plan on playing maybe, is the new Star Wars mmorpg. -

XoticPC
LPC Digital
Malibal
Power Notebooks
There are others, but that's a good start.
Looks like the cooling is the same.
Also, some resellers are better than others as to whether they allow you to "subtract" components to save money.
-
Well, I'd be willing to pay up to $150~180ish,
but $250 is simply too much.. -
Or do the higher end cards have better signal strength? I've enver had a problem with my Intel 5300 Wireless Half-Card in my Dell SXPS 16, always has full strength within a household I'm visiting and no problem in the apartment.
I did order a NP8150 through LPC Digital with the base wireless as I didn't think there was really any difference beyond the limitation of the throughput. Submitted my money order through my bank already. Is this user-upgradable?
EDIT: Found a reference about this in a recent thread:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo-reviews-owners-lounges/546387-official-sager-np8150-clevo-p150hm-owners-lounge-26.html -
It is a lot, but just looking at it they come to the same, but once provides upgrades and the other doesn't. Although i may or may not need upgrades, you never know and if an upgrade were needed, and i couldn't do it i would have a huge regret.
Aside from that, reflex notebook offers a 1year warranty, for 77bucks extra and they cover all shipping extra. And there shipping charges when you first buy the laptop is 112.27.... a lot of money for shipping.
Hopefully i can get them to price match this baby down. -
in that sense, the 6300n has more range. It also has higher speeds.
However, 6300n does not have bluetooth. I don't use bluetooth, so I just went for the best.
I also ordered from Larry, PM him for details on how to upgrade your order, I was able to upgrade my CPU and wireless card after I ordered by sending him a payment afterwards, and he updated my invoice for me. -
I went for upgradeability as well, didn't mind spending some more for the opportunity to use the upcoming technology. -
Anyways, my total comes to 1914 (in that range, don't have the page open).
That includes the 1 year warranty, shipping, taxes etc. -
-
Try buying from a reseller in the US so that you don't have to pay tax.
Are you willing to pay in paypal e-check? Then babyhemi has some great prices, I harassed him with 80+ PMs with 10 different configs and he always gave me the best quotes compared to all the other resellers.. -
-
Oh, one question about the wireless network adapter in the laptop.
There are three choices.
Internal 802.11 B+G+N Wireless LAN + Bluetooth Combo Module
Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 - 802.11A/B/G/N Wireless LAN + Bluetooth Combo Module
Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 - 802.11A/B/G/N Wireless LAN Module
You said that it gives higher speeds, the 6300 but if my home internet is , do i really need it? By , i mean:
Download: 2-3mbps
Upload: 0-1mbps
Do i really need to spend 40bucks on the best one? -
Man oh man, i have to pay close to $250 for taxes.
Taxes are actually 224bucks.. -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
-
If it's that case, you won't notice the difference. I'm more about the range, and I don't use bluetooth, so I went for the 6300n.
Also, can't you bypass the tax when you buy it from a US reseller? -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
No, you pay Canadian tax through Canadian Customs, it cannot be avoided when you import.
-
Yeah, i just called Xotic PC.
No way to avoid it, you get "surprise" costs when it comes to your door... -
So i get to save 40 bucks -
Oh.. my bad..

GRAND Total w/ Taxes, Shipping, and Discount.
$1,886.54 CAD
From Reflexnotebook.ca
Any suggestions? I want to put in an order soon... i already missed the Feb. 7th deadline, so i have to wait 2-3weeks -
If you purchase a laptop from the US and have it shipped to Canada, you only pay your local GST / PST taxes - which are the same taxes you have to pay if you buy a laptop locally in Canada.
The only other fee you might have to pay is a brokerage fee, if you use standard shipping from the US. If you get express shipping from the US, this brokerage fee is waived - and so the total taxes / fees are the same as if you purchased locally in Canada.

I have a question about the 460. I know that the 485 really is the big boy on the block when it comes to graphics, but there are some of us (like myself) who aren't going to be playing games all that often. Assuming I do pick up a couple of current games, will the 460 be able to handle them, albeit with the res turned down a little bit and AA etc turned down / off? I am just wondering how capable this card is going to be for those of us for whom game playing is a second or third priority. Thanks in advance.
-
-
However, yes, that does look good for your needs. -
Reason why its close to $100 more is because in the other one with the 6300 WiFi, i forgot to add in the 1 year 77dollar warranty. -
I don't know if this next question can be answered or not yet, but how much more capable than the 460 will the 6970 be? From what I've heard, it will be more capable than the 460, but still not near what the 485 can do. Does that sound accurate, more or less? -
-
I wouldn't call it in the middle after looking at the benchmark done by notebookcheck (6970 + 1st generation i7 Vs 485 + sb processor).
-
anyone order one of these recently? what is sager saying the ship date is now?

Note: We have P150HM / 460M orders that were placed on the 13th and they are shipping out this week. -
Hey everybody, thanks for all the good info on this forum. I've been researching buying a new gaming laptop for the last few days, and I finally found myself a reseller that would give me everything I wanted for a decent price, while maintaining a professional and informed dialogue. Mythlogic is a great company/website, and after I configured my new P150HM (on order) I decided to try their live chat support just to ask a few questions and they pinned down exactly what I needed/wanted with a very good quote.
I'm just hoping that the Clevo/Sager backorder log speeds along, because I don't think I've ever been this excited about an online purchase in a while.
BTW, I tried Cyberpower PC first, and if it wasn't for the fact that I could get the screen and SSD that I wanted for roughly the same price, I probably would have gone for the bigger company.
I just wish these websites would ALL make it clear upfront that the laptop is not going to ship anytime soon. Cyberpower was still offering rush services as an option :\ -

Now you can order a Sager approved HDD in ODD Bay using a Caddy case. More info and prices soon. For the models of NP5160, NP5170, NP8130, NP8150, NP8170...
-
-
I don't know if all resellers do this... but if you get your order in sooner rather then later and you have not fully decided on the specs (waiting on more information from the forums) they will let you change the spec without losing your order spot. (Sorry if I am wrong)
