I'm very close to ordering an 8130 and just watched the Xotic review on Youtube again. In the video the laptop appears to be covered in dust really bad.
Can anyone tell me if the 8130 is a dust magnet? If so, is it easy to clean the dust off with just a microfiber cloth or something? I know the rubberized finish makes it a little difficult to remove dust but the 8130 doesn't have that so I was surprised to see the laptop in the video so covered in dust.
The touchpad looks like it's covered in either dust of maybe oil from your finger. Does the touchpad get really dirty?
I hate dust and would hate to have a laptop that is a dust magnet and hard to get it off. I don't mind wiping it down with a cloth (windex electronics dry cleaning clothes work really well) every so often but would hate to have to be wiping it down constantly and have it hard to get off.
Thanks

In the video it only got dusty when it was turned upside down such that the lid was in contact with a dusty surface. The reviewer also mentioned that the dust could be easily wiped off with a dry cloth.
Edit: I actually watched the video for the 8150, but I'm pretty sure they're made of the same material with the same finish. -
-
I'd imagine the plastic is easier to clean off than the rubber though.
-
-
It's a shame. I could see the benefits in the rubberized finish but the fact that it's on the trackpad as well and is a dust magnet is a major turnoff. I'd rather go with the plastic.
-
But, if you mind all those things, and are not planning to upgrade, then the 8130 is a better choice.
Edit: If you mind all those things, and are planning to upgrade, then the 8170 is a better choice. -
Not planning on upgrading... 8130 is pushing my budget as it is, I don't really need too much graphical power, I only really want to play strategy games and such, games with PC lead. I'd play more games on the PC but all my friends play on consoles so there's no point on playing MP on the computer without friends, and with a lot of game developers designing for console first it's less of a hassle bug/interface wise. Planning on using the trackpad cause my laptop around with me a lot, so I don't always have a mouse at hand. That and dust really bothers me, kind of OCD about the cleanliness of my electronics lol.

Can anyone comment on the webcam quality? I had the Sager 5125 and the webcam was horrendous.
-
I believe the webcams are not anything special. I remember reading they get less than 10 FPS
-
Anybody with a NP8130 pre-order received their tracking # today?
-
I was told either today or tomorrow, as long as testing goes ok. So will update then.
-
-
full HD = 1920x1080 ≈ 2M pixels.
-
-
Ya the hd webcam on the dell xps is a 2M. Remember a lot of camera quality is about the lens that is in it. Phone cameras, for the most part, are pretty crappy, but they have been getting better recently.
-
If its the same webcam in the NP8690, then well...that one wasn't great.
-
The webcam isn't that great...
But it does get the job done.. -
So................ I've been refreshing my Gmail and cellphone email in anticipation of my tracking number ..................
At this rate Google might shut down my account for too many accesses -
Oh, and I got news that Sager usually sends out tracking numbers between 10pm-12am Pacific each day. -
-
I Got My Tracking Number!!!!!! Should be here Monday, 3/14, by the end of the day. Since, its my break, I'll stay up and do a review of thoughts/opinions of the 8130
! Thanks Brett and Justin for all the help!
-
Thanks for trying to do a review on it Hispeed4567
Finally someone with the NP8130 on pre-order is shipping. Uh... I hope your order is on 1/24/11 because it would suck for the rest of us that Sager has just started shipping for mid Jan xD
-
As per my signature, my order date (where I just simply added the laptop to my cart and put in my shipping information) is 1/18. The date where Xotic received my wire transfer for the cash discount is 1/24. I'm pretty positive that the 1/18 is used to put one in the queue.
-
Looking forward to the review!!
-
My phone chimes whenever I have a new email, and every time I get just a little excited that it'll be a tracking number
Of course, they haven't even charged my CC yet so I'm sure it'll be a while, but still... -
Hi all.
I placed my order with Xotic PC on Feb 28, and I received notification on March 9th that my order had moved to Phase 2 for production. Can't wait!
-
uh boy, I placed mine 02/07/10.
still pending...
why can't something go well for a change... -
tobs, did you order from Xotic? Your payment might not have been received, or they may not have gotten your confirmation email at [email protected] (check the first 'Status Change' email you received from them, and look at the bottom)
-
yea, xoticpc..
no they def. have the money, I spoke to them before about that..
will see what the reason is.. -
What thats not fair! I ordered 2/18 and still at phase one :'(

(Many of our admins work 9-9 right now getting through pre orders)

They're not the only ones. I ordered on the 2/15, though I changed my order twice so I can understand a delay. I think everyone just a little anxious after pre-ordering almost a month ago. Just to know that sager was shipping again or that I might receive my laptop before the end of the month would make me happy.
I really wouldn't like to wait till April...
-
thanks justin.. I already spoke to JP.. everything's cleared up now and good to go...
yay! -
On the UPS truck to be delivered today! Originally was supposed to come Monday, but something good happened and UPS decided to not hold my package for days this one time. Actually, this is the first time that UPS has ever even said they were going to deliver anything early
-
My Sager NP8130 is arriving soon in Singapore! My local Sager seller told me that it was shipped out on Thursday. Can't wait and pretty excited!
However, I have 1 question for you folks... Can we install a SSD into the DVDRw drive as it is? Or do we have to buy a caddy?
Also, what happens to the DVDRq after it is swapped out? Can it function as an external DVDRw drive that connects to USB 2?
Thanks in advance! -
-
Funny how only the 8130s are being shipped atm... Or is it?
-
The 8150 is also being shipped too. I believe another member is getting his laptop today.

Well... Just because a few people with the NP8130 said they have their tracking number doesn't mean that only the NP8130 is shipping. It could be that many people are low on their budget and can't afford/don't need a NP8150. And our members base is not the whole market for Sager
We would have teh POWA if this were true. MUHAHAHA!!!
Well... I hope mine ordered on Feb 8 gets shipped next week Monday/Tuesday. I really want it before spring break or I won't be as excited about it anymoreBut it looks like they are almost done with January orders
That's a good sign.
-
Sup people, could anyone (when the notebook arrives) review this model?
I know the 8150 is kind of the same, but still, I haven't seen even 1 picture of the 8130. -
In the meantime, here's Xotic PC's video walkthrough of the 8130: YouTube - Sager NP8130 Video Review by XOTIC PC -
Yup. I'm getting it sometime today and I will to do a review of it tonight/tomorrow for the 8130. As for the pictures, honestly I think the video by xotic is a lot better in terms of getting an idea of how it looks and viewing angles. A video is really just thousands of pictures moving fast

Please let me know where they install your RAM DIMMs.. I was hoping that they would put the 2x4GB DIMMs in the hard to access under the keyboard slots, hehe. The motherboard probably requires them outside just to be difficult..
-
I was told that all laptops shipping since late Jan. would have the RAM installed underneath the keyboard and the easy access ones would be available for user upgrades.
-
As for those wanting reviews, i am loathe to actually put up a review, but can answer questions. -
