    Most welcome! :)

Thanks for your reply and suggestion. =)
As I pointed out in my first post, I'll be mainly using the laptop for Photoshop, and I'm going to a design school. So I need the display upgrade and 24 gigs RAM. My (probable) config is:
    Updated display
    24GB RAM
750GB SSHD (I *THINK* it's the Momentus XT)
    AC 7260
    Windows 8

This, amounting to $1434, and I can apply the summer savings of $50 and 2% cash back (not 3% since I'm availing summer sales discount), amounting to something like ~$1360.
The Plextor I'm buying on my own from what I've earned freelancing.

I CAN drop the wireless card upgrade, but nothing else (~$1320 in that case). RAM is really important for me, and the only reason I was considering the NP8235 over this was the max RAM (32GB in that case). =)

I've always enjoyed tinkering around, to be honest. I write batch scripts to automate chores (extensive selective scheduled backups / mirroring between my work area and Dropbox, creating wifi hotspots etc). Sounds lame, but gets the job done. :p
I've never really played around with hardware - but that's primarily because I didn't really have an opportunity to. I'm looking forward to this so I can extend my knowledge to practical know-how. Theoretical knowledge can only get you so far. ;)

I just got my NP7352 and I'm having some trouble with Optimus. I'm assuming that the lights on the front panel indicating the graphics card in use are accurate. The laptop is using the Intel graphics when it boots up, and will switch to the GTX for graphically intensive programs, but it won't switch back; the orange light will stay on. The "VGA" button doesn't help, either; pressing it toggles its color between orange and green, and it switches the Windows power plan, but the Nvidia graphics card remains in use regardless. I honestly don't care if I have to manually switch between the two cards with a button press, but I need to be able to switch back to the Intel card when I need to.

    Any tips?

Do you use any temperature monitor program? They tend to not let gpu to switch until you close it try that one and which OS and nvidia drivers you use the one from sager or?

No, I haven't installed any temperature monitors. I'm running my own copy of Windows 8 Pro, and I've installed the Nvidia and Intel drivers from the disc that came with the computer.

Do you guys all have no problems with the switching?

Please refer to POST #255 here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...vo-p151sm1-sager-np8230-owners-lounge-26.html and check if it solves the problem.

The driver updating program with windows or the one shipped may be installing old drivers. Using NVIDIA's own software might help with installing latest drivers. As several NBR members have mentioned that some people have this problem while others don't, it might not be universal therefore not related to hardware issue. Hope this helps!

It's not recommended by adobe that your scratch disk be a different drive then the disk that Photoshop is installed on. You should get another drive or an msata ssd, or even set up a RAMdisk as your scratch drive.

Anyone with W370ST or maybe the W350ST , does the CPU turbo boost works with discrete GPU, the Nvidia 765M ?

According to the NotebookCheck review on the Schenker, no it doesn't.

    Why would they not?

    A just question, my liege.

I was of the impression that is recommended. Can you show any documentation claiming that?

Also, setting up a RAMDisk as your scratch drive is of no use. Photoshop uses the scratch disk when it runs out of RAM. So setting your RAM as a scratch disk would mean, that once it can't use any more RAM, it'll move to using your - you got it right - RAM! :D
This will actually degrade performance (according to some experienced folk at the Adobe Photoshop forums).

Hi I am wondering why this laptop is under radar on reviews? I have yet to find a REAL review on Youtube of this laptop. Can anyone do a youtube review or post pictures? I am looking I to purchasing this laptop for my brother and I. I am interested mostly on how loud the fan goes on while playing a game such as BF3 or Crysis 3. Also how average the sound is on the laptop. I am not very familiar with the sound "tinny" any insight would help :)

    1. There are no detailed video reviews on youtube yet! Sadly, XoticPC has still not made any Sager reviews for the 2013 line (Their reviews are very detailed). Just hope for some reseller or user to make one soon. Until then you can get an idea by reading all posts in this thread.

    2. "Tinny" sound in reviews is confusing. To what I can tell Sager sound quality is "AVERAGE" if you consider MSI's Dynaudio to be "EXCELLENT" (It is relative). Users have posted that it aint bad, just not the best. The sound card and audio jack quality is average at best (The speakers aren't that good). In fact in POST# 25 in the link below, the user explained that audio jack quality in W350ST is better than P151sm1 or greater models. You can go through the thread yourselves and make a guess on its quality. IMO the quality is average (Bad for a 1000+ $ laptop), but it aint bad.

Just found this on Youtube. This year's w350st is the same barebone as last years w350et. He compares the w370 and w350 models. :D

I'm coming from a crappy HP G42 so the speaker would be an upgrade :D although I am watching movies from a 11 inch MacBook Air so I might need adjusting.

Sager NP6370 (Clevo W370ET) Video Review by XOTIC PC - YouTube : XoticPC's review on the last years clevo model you are talking about.

HP G series had Altec Lansing if I am right and its reviews never showed any quality problems with the Audio jack. Perhaps other NBR members on this thread who owned a Laptop with Altec Lansing speaker could compare and comment on this point.

Well congrats. Better GPU, good decision!

Once you receive ur NP8265 I assume with the 770M, it will be nice if you could review by opening a new Owner's lounge thread. Few questions still not discussed in forums such as ones below would be nice to touch:
    1. Mic and Cam quality
    2. 3.5mm audio jack quality with a pair of good headphones
    3. Game frame rates for Arma3, bioshock etc.
    4. Build/cooling etc.

    Enjoy..

    Thank you! :)
Although it was more because of the rubberized case, better ventilation, back lit keyboard, and RAM upgradeability to 32GB - I don't really need a 770M, I don't game much (Photoshop user here).

Also, it will be quite a while before I actually get my hands on it. My sister studies in the USA and it's being shipped to her place, and she'll return home in the last week of November. I'll die of anticipation till then. :s
Till then, you can of course check out HTWingnut's awesome review on the P157SM - http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...ingnuts-sager-np8250-clevo-p157sm-review.html
It's practically the same laptop, with an illuminated touchpad and a volume-equalizer-bling-thing. And of course support for another 7mm z-height SATA interface drive.

If your questions are STILL not answered by the end of November, I will create an owner's thread. :D

Hi everyone I found this video of the W350st/Aftershock XG15 I checked their website and its the same model. He is playing Battlefield 3 and Dota 2 on the laptop.

The speakers sound like an average laptop. Similar to my HP G42. I am planning on just buying a 30$ Bluetooth Portable speaker to get that much needed base I need when listening to music.

Hey guys, I've had my NP7352 for a couple of weeks now, and everything has been going fine, but just today my wireless card stopped working completely.

I have the Realtek RTL8723AE Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC card. It was working fine before, but now it can't seem to find any wireless network.

Do you guys have any suggestions as to what I can do to fix this, or maybe some possible solutions?

Hi there I don't know how to fix this but, consider using a USB Wi-Fi Adapter for know until you can find the issue. I think I read that someone had a similar problem back in this thread. He fixed it by wiggling the WiFi card's wires.

So I was on Clevo's site a little while ago and stumbled on this:

    CLEVO - Products

Its the W355ST and from the looks of it, its identical to our W350ST's with one pretty large advantage: A backlit keyboard... Has anyone seen this? I did a quick google search and did not find it available at any resellers or builders. (I didnt look very long) Does anyone know if this has been out for a while or is it new? I just placed my order for my W350ST/NP7352 on late Friday night so it hasnt even been processed yet (card hasnt even been charged) so if this model is right around the corner and is the same as the W350ST than I might want to switch. I will ask Xotic tomorrow about it as I need to talk to them about somthing else with my order anyway but if anyone has any info Id love to hear it.

Worse come to worse, maybe we can swap out keyboards out with the backlit one from this

Yes, the W355STQ is a fairly new model. Its a backlit version (i guess non-programmable) and should hopefully support intel HQ quad core models. It also comes with the 120w adapter. Its likely to compete with GS70 and GE60s.

Resellers might have to check compatibility and run tests on prototypes before they can release a consumer version so its likely to take time if they want to. So its not anytime soon! I dont think the mobo allows a backlit keyboard connector on the W350ST so you probably cannot upgrade.

    W370ST Review

Specs: Matte screen, 4700QM CPU, 16 Gb RAM, SSD Samsung EVO 128 gb, 500gb WD caviar black , Windows 7 64 home premium.

    The Pros:
Great performer Cinebench 64 bits CPU 6.52 OpenGL: 57 fps
Nice matte , full HD screen
    CUDA available for simulation calculations.
Absolutely silent just navigating webpages even with room at almost 30ºC.
When the fan works it is very powerful and with expectable noise, at 1m distance one can feel the blast. This is reassuring when i'll do some rendering or other cpu intensive calculations.
(I also can see this as a problem if the computer is wandering between fan, no fan. I have put a no fan control available as an issue.)
Easily accessible fan and inside chassis to be cleaned.
    Still have a mSATA free.
E-SATA port, my old DV7 had too and i have a disk enclosure for that.
SSD is felt in daily use. For example to not break the speed i was getting in windows explorer i stopped using double click to open folders, now it is just one click. But for heavy programs it is not a magic hand. They are faster, i would say double or triple faster to start, but are not instantaneous. Small applications are instantaneous.
Installation was straight forward. I installed the memory, the HDD,SSD and had no issue at all.
For a 17" is not heavy.
I like the understated design, it is not boxy like my very old Clevo 470K neither is some flashy thing. No indentations also means it easier to clean.

    So so

Sound, it is necessary to install the Creative Soundblaster application which came as option in drivers to have any sound of quality out of it. Use with an Hi-Fi or headphones, the speakers are not one of the best around.
Intel HD is more powerful than what i expected but still with typical irregularity.

    The Cons:

Keyboard with weak key resistance, it makes too much noise than should be typing. For a silent laptop this is not well thought since no background noise makes it more noticeable.

    No fan control.

No Windows 7 drivers. Had to try Sager build ones(except the GPU which i got from Nvidia directly) for what i am grateful they made available - i am using what i think is a German tagged Clevo bought and assembled in Portugal - Inforphone store -, at least the Nvidia Inspector says a Schencker Geforce. Only apparent issue with Sager drivers is that the hotkey seems to need to reinstall itself when i tweak the msconfig or any system device that needs a reboot even if i don't touch in the hotkey at all, then another reboot is necessary for the hotkey reinstall itself. Hotkey is important because it is what makes possible for the user to change from Intel to Nvidia GPU and vice versa.

Nvidia Optimus is not reliable to have the a program use it. Keep trying to use it with old game GP4 and nothing yet.
Nvidia asks to be connected to web to install drivers. Nasty. AMD/ATI is not like that.
Intel puts a lot of crapware even if not necessary.

Chassis controls: compared to my HP DV7-3020 which had a nice finger virtual slider sound control and dedicated buttons these Fn+Key are inferior even if they work. No remote control either but that is not an issue since i seldom used it.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the end this is my first Intel-Nvidia laptop , until today it has always been AMD-ATI. More powerful, but also have much more crapware which appears as arrogance from these two companies.

Just a review of first 5 days. For a start i am pretty happy with it, but the real test is along the time.

Still have to check the Intel Turboboost issue it is said to not work with Optimus and finally test wi-fi, camera, microphone and battery.

Turbo boost issue w/optimus issue? What do you mean? According to the notebook check review Turbo boost works fine in 3D applications. Could you elaborate?

    Great review btw, Thanks!

Comment on turbo boost from notebook check:

" The Core i7-4600MQ clock behavior is beyond reproach. While the XMG A522 could not use the Turbo when nVidia's GPU was active, the CPU in the XMG A523 usually runs faster than its default clock. Nearly 3.2 GHz in 3D intensive operations was impressive. Clevo has omitted the Turbo stop available in Ivy Bridge despite the higher graphics power."

Hi guys I found a detailed review of the Clevo w350st. I found this on a Malaysian Forum. It's branded Illegear but its just the W350st in a new Chassis. If you scroll down and read post the OP mentions about the noise and speakers.

Have people been able to successfully install Linux on the NP7352?

I installed Ubuntu 10.04, but I'm getting a black screen on boot (it boots from the LiveUSB fine). I'm guessing it has to do with Optimus not working well with Linux, but has anybody got it working? Any suggestions?

I am seriously considering buying this laptop. Would any of you recommend it and should I get the extended warranty from Xotic?

    Hey guys,
I ordered my 7352 through Xotic and it should be here Wednesday (just in time for class on Friday :D) Anyway, I am wondering what sager uses for RAM in these. I just went with the 8gb 1600Mhz but there is no brand info or anything that I can find. On sager's website in there "overview" section for this model there is a picture with the bottom cover off and it looks like they have Kingston? in there but I am wondering if that is just for the picture. For those of you that have the NP7352 (IE: you bought it through sager or a reseller, not a builder) what type/brand ram did your laptop come with? Also any chance it comes with DDR3L (1.35V) or is it just standard DDR3?

    Thanks

Perhaps you might want to re-read the review...

Notebookcheck review: Review Schenker XMG A523 (Clevo W350ST) Notebook - NotebookCheck.net Reviews

    Exact quote from review:
" The Core i7-4600MQ clock behavior is beyond reproach. While the XMG A522 could not use the Turbo when nVidia's GPU was active, the CPU in the XMG A523 usually runs faster than its default clock. Nearly 3.2 GHz in 3D intensive operations was impressive. Clevo has omitted the Turbo stop available in Ivy Bridge despite the higher graphics power

It was last years model that had the turbo boost problem, clevo has fixed it in this model and according to notebook check the turbo works perfectly (or "Beyond Reproach" :)) with 3d applications.

I've ordered this laptop from xoticpc about a week ago but not received yet. I'm bit worried about the fan issue. Is it still there? I've heard in other forums the BIOS update worked for UK model, Optimus V by PC Specialist.

No apologies necessary my friend! Just wanted to point it out as I misread it the first time too. Also, I hope I did not come off rude in my post, I'm re-reading it now and can see how where I said " perhaps you might want to re-read the review" kind of sounds a bit rude which was not my intention.

    Regards,
    Mike

I've ordered mine fron Xotic as well and it will be here this Wednesday (the 18th) so I'll be sure to post my impressions as I too am very curious how the fan issue has matured over the last few months since release.

Is there any update to the w355stq that someone posted a while ago? Is it going to replace the w350st?
