    Interesting:

Just purchased one of these from Xotic.

Went back to page to check RAM type for upgrade.

    "Product not found".

Checked other online retailers, Sager itself, no more 7339s anywhere.

Seems too early for refresh. Not sure what's going on.

    Anyone have any ideas/answers?

It was removed from their site, with a lot of models as well. But no new models have been announced yet. If you have questions on a pending order, or if you already have it though, PM or email me and I can help out with that.

You say early for a refresh but then it was on the 4th generation CPUs and has been around for a fair bit.

    Hi all,

I've run into an issue that I'm not sure how to fix. A couple weeks after I got my 7339, the screen started flickering. It's a "hard" black flicker that usually ends up with the screen going fully black. Sleeping/waking the computer seems to solve the issue, but only temporarily.

It's a "live" black screen (i.e., there's still power going to it, not the same black as when the computer is off) and I have no flicker issues on an external monitor. From the research I've done it sounds like a loose cable between the screen and...the motherboard? (I think). I'm not comfortable enough with the guts of this things to starting poking around, though. Are there any guides out there that could help me out, or any specific advice you folks might be able to offer?

    Thanks!

And apologies if I'm posting in the wrong place or there's a solution out there already. I tried looking but couldn't find anything useful for my particular situation.

I was hoping to get one of these in the next month or so. Hopefully we we will get a refresh or similar one soon!

It's possible. Or one of its wires (there's ~25 in all, inside the cable) could be broken; sometimes connecting, sometimes not. Remove the bottom cover (four screws) and you can at least try reseating the cable on the motherboard end (remove battery first):

When removing the cover, inspect the area next to the lcd connector. There's ridge there where an extending clip of the bottom cover hooks behind. When the cable happens to be in that area when closing the bottom cover then it gets squeezed in-between. Mine was like that and the intermittent display issues only surfaced after a week or so, as well. Replaced the cable in order to fix that.

To check the cable at the lcd end you have to remove the front bezel. There's no screws here, just some plastic clips. Do have to remove this carefully; minimise bending the bezel, as it's quite thin.

Thanks, t456, I'll try re-seating the connector and taking a close look at the cable. I'll let you know what I find.

After what I thought was some initial success, the screen is still giving me some issues. How do I remove the front bezel? I've tried searching for a video or set of instructions for this form factor, but can't seem to find one.

Yes, there probably aren't any; this is not regular maintenance or replacement, after all. Anyway, here you go:

Use nail to unclip the first bit, then triangle-thingy as a wedge. Credit card or flat screwdriver is fine, too. Once you have a few clips loose, then the rest can be done by hand:

Now, you haven't mentioned whether yours is the fhd, wqhd of qhd panel. With the last two the display is taped to the display lid; no screws. The fhd has screws keeping it fixed to the metal side brackets:

Thing is, with my wqhd the lcd cable is attached behind the inverter/bl board. To reseat it, the display needs to be removed from the lid. Quite easy with the fhd/screw version, but the tape is quite sticky and the lcd very thin; it'll flex some. If you can't easily reach it and you have wqhd/qhd then you may be better off with an rma. Same things if the issue is the cable itself, after all; replacing the cable would also require a bit more dismantling (for routing).

Btw ... if you ever wondered ' Why thick bezels?' :

That thing is one of the antennas. It sits above the lcd itself, free from obstructions (only plastic in the way of its signal). Can't place them behind the lcd due to interference, so with the thin-bezel designs the antenna(s) are placed at the bottom of the lcd, severely crippling connectivity. So ... if you ever hear people with 'design' laptops complain about ' wifi issues'; usb-attached antenna would solve it. They won't like that advice one bit, of course; sleek design all messed up ...   .

Ah, thank you! I never would have figured that out fiddling around by myself.

I believe I have an fhd panel. HWiNFO is telling me panel is "CMN N133HSE-EA1", which seems to be an fhd when I Google its technical specs. I guess I'll know for sure once I get in there.

Thanks so much for your help, t456! And thanks, too, for the interesting tidbit about antennas -- I didn't know that.

That's why many metal machines have plastic strips along the top edge of the display to act as a window.

Why not connect the antennae leads directly to the metal surface of the chassis and make the entire outer body the antenna?

I believe that's how many smartphone antennae (like my own, HTC One M8) work.

Are these still available for purchase anywhere?

I think that all the suppliers direct ordered from Sager when they had an order come in and didn't stock these directly, but I wanted to confirm.

You would want to reach out to Sager or your reseller where you purchased it so see if maybe they are available possibly. If the reseller where you purchased the computer doesn't have, then they could reach out to Sager and see.

Doesn't work that way; the antennas on your M8 aren't behind the lcd either, but above and below this. It also, like a laptop, has wifi separated from BT, since these are broadcasting on the same frequency range. Apple put them side-by-side, so you were blocking both signals at once. Not sure why that would matter ... unless either was compensation for the signal drop by increasing output, thereby hindering its neighbour.

Anyway, one solution could be to make a very thin-width antenna, except wrap it around the entire lcd. That way you'd have a very thin bezel and good reception. May need some evolution as to the design of that, either with algorithms alone or hardcore as well:

While I was at uni I was working with emitter arrays that constructively and destructively interfere to create a directional beam that can be software controlled, i'm surprised this has not taken off just yet.

    Hello there.

Are there Linux users that can enlighten me about a couple of questions? I have read the W230SS performs very well in Linux, including power management and turning off nvidia (or controlling optimus to some extent). I'm unable to find similar posts about W230SD although I know they are more or less the same hardware. What do you people experience? I'm specially interested to know if HDMI or VGA outputs work out of the box with xrandr or something. Do you know if those outputs are connected to Intel card?

All display outputs are connected via the igp. The hardware is pretty much identical so should react the same way.

    Hello everybody

    I just bought a W230SD.

Someone ever tried to use the 3rd (or the 2nd) msata slot for something else than a msata ssd? In other words, the slot has only the sata lanes connected or there are also USB and/or pci express lanes connected?

    Thank you so much

You're right. I'm sorry, but I postad on the W230SS thread before noticing that there was a W230SD thread too :)

Anyway, thank you for your reply. I just received my notebook and I fount that I have also the msata to m.2 adapter and an option in BIOS to select the 3rd slot usage (storage or 3G). I don't know now if selecting 3G the slot enables only USB or became a mini pci-e (maybe these are derams).

Now I have another question. Which is the best BIOS for the W230SD?

It will enable it in USB only mode. :)

The best bios would technically be the prema mod bios.

If you really want a W230SD, the only way is eBay or maybe Amazon. The W230SD has been discontinued in favour of the P640RE (which is superior to a certain extent). Consider buying that instead, since both the W230SD and P640RE are about as expensive, but the P640RE has a GTX 970M.

Just stopping by to see what's new. 7 months in still loving the 'SD, still a very capable machine, a bit sad to see there is no more 13" option. The P640RE does look nice. Really wish they'd start putting small bezel displays on these, though!

They do use that extra space for cooling goodness but a slightly larger lcd takes you off the beaten track panel wise and will raise prices.
