That is great news, thank you for the reply!
This doubt had been eating away at me for some time now.
Could you try it, please? If it works I'll probably be sending you my rig for a phoenix upgrade plan =)
Can you send me your msata ssd prices via PM?
-
One year ago I posted this.
I don't know if the story they told me before on the online chat; is the real reason why it's difficult to find, or is it just bad marketing?
You can always ask at the live chat support on the Coolermaster USA website where to buy it. -
Thanks! Looks like a pretty high price tag though, so I won't be buying until my other AC goes out.
Unrelated question: What are the most current Sager bios and EC versions for this model? I have bv09s and EC02. -
Just email us to get our latest mSATA prices -
That is a pitty, any ideas on where I could borrow an msata drive for the test? Geek Squad =/?
-
Where would an mSATA drive be placed inside this laptop? I have an SSD in the auxiliary hard drive caddy (no CD/DVD drive) already. Is there space in here to put an mSATA?
-
msata drives fit in sata wired/powered mini pcie slots. There are two mini pcie slots on the board, both in the main compartment.
The first one is a normal slot (Not an msata one) used for the wifi card, if I'm not mistaken its under the trackpad.
The second one is an mstat slot (to the left of the cpu, near the battery), in my case it is wired to sata 2 (check your bios to verify if you have an empty sata slot).
Unfortunately I'm currently traveling and will be unable to purchase and try an msata ssd until I get back.
It would be great if someone with this board and an msata drive could verify if the w150hr can handle a ssd.
If it works, it would be an awesome update. Amazon.com: OCZ Technology 120 GB Nocti Series 3.0 Gb-s Slim mSATA SATA II Solid State Drive (NOC-MSATA-120G): Electronics

Hey guys, I have a few quick questions I'm having trouble finding the answer too.
I'm thinking of upgrading my 5165 from a 7200 mechanical drive to an M4 SSD. I know the 5165 is SATA3 capable, but does anyone know what specific controller the board uses? I can't seem to find that information anywhere.
Also, I can't seem to find any information on BIOS updates on either Sager's website or my reseller's, XoticPC (whom actually just redirects you to Sager's website). Are there any pressing updates since November 2011? -

So i created an account just to let you guys know something intersting that happened to me the other day.
I had partitioned my hard drive and installed windows 8 on one and windows 7 on the other. i accidentally left my computer on when i tossed it in my backpack and it overheated.
after i let it cool off (i opened up the back and cleaned the fan too) i tried to start her back up and all i got was the Sager screen, cut to black, die, and restart all over again.
i thought my computer was cooked... turns out i still had a bootable usb with windows 7 on it so i tossed it in just as a last ditch effort, and it worked. i loaded it on my old win 7 partitian and it booted up like a charm AND i still had all my files from my windows 8 partitian
crazy stuff...
any idea why the heck overheating would cause my computer to completely forget how to work? -
Hello Everyone! i bought a NP5165 in December of 2011.
My full specs are:
i7-2670QM
8gb ddr(2)(3)
nividia GT 555m
I also purchased the thermal compound.
I'm not sure how things are running for you guys but since i bought it i've been having issues. First of all its doing very poorly with simple multitasking. I'll be surfing the web with music playing in the background then suddenly i hear weird robotic noises from the music as though the cpu cannot handle it or something. I paid extra for the i7 cpu but it really doesn't feel like an i7. :/ My old e6300 used to have quicker startup times and could handle two games plus pandora in the background.
Graphics-wise the only game i really play often is CounterStrike: Source, which is a rather old game (2007). I change the graphics from high to low or vise versa and my fps does not change. It stays at a constant 70-80 max. recently it has actually been down to 30 without changing any advanced settings and has even been crashing. I also play Diablo III on occasion as well as Dota 2 which are also pretty laggy. I ended up wasting $60 on BF3 since thats a joke to run with this laptop. Right as I enter the game it crashes. Extremely frustrating.
I realized that buying a gaming laptop the battery life was not going to be amazing. On UMA mode i get around 2 hours. On VGA using the GT555m i get like 30 min of playing time and 1hr 10min standby. Does everyone else have these issues? I sent a ticket to Sager on the support site so they could call me back tomorrow (7/2/12 7:30-12pm).
Thoughts, Suggestions, Anything really is more than welcome here. Thanks Guys. -
Sounds like an issue with your laptop, or with software.
There has got to be something taking priority of your CPU. Possibly an anti-virus program is getting over-controlling and running constantly? My computer can play about 3-3.5 hours of HD video, gaming anywhere from 1-3 hours depending on the game, both using the GT555.
And Dota 2 runs alright.
The battery, performance, and multitasking issues could all be explained by some sort of software running on your computer. I assume you have done comprehensive malware/virus scans? Maybe try a clean Windows installation before RMAing. -
i do have microsoft security essential antivirus running all the time.

I have a Clevo Clevo W150HRQ that i ordered with the stock Realtek Wireless. I want to upgrade the wireless to something that supports 5Ghz. What adapters can I use? I was looking at the Intel 6230. I haven't opened up the laptop yet, do I need to purchase the internal antennae or are they already there?

Hey guys,
So for the past few months (ever since ambient temperatures started increasing), I have been having overheating issues with my laptop.
Yes, overheating. Not just the usual high temps. It has surpassed 100C on load quite frequently.
I cleaned all of the dust out of the system and I thought that I had fixed it, but it still shuts off on me occasionally.
I have also gotten a weird beep code during operation (not at boot up), where all of the status lights at the front of the palm rest flash on sync with a regular beeping. This does not happen before the laptop shuts off due to high temps, but I feel as though they could be connected.
Any insight? I may just RMA the laptop before school starts up again in the fall, since I've had USB3.0 power issues since I first received the laptop.

Hey guys, I've been battling with my NP5165 for a year and a half now. One day I tried to boot up a game and it blue screened with the "Attempt to reset display driver and recover from time out failed" message. I tried multiple fixes including registry fixes and reinstalling everything, and some things that Sager told me to do. After all that, I RMA'd it.
Fast forward a few months and it happens again. I'm getting the same error, the same blue screen, every time I try to use the discrete graphics card. I RMA it again and they fix it one more time. Then a few months later... it happens again. But now it's escalated. It gives me the error 43: "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems".
So now I'm out of warranty after having it repaired twice and I can't get Windows 7 to use the graphics card at all. It recognizes that it is there, but it's unusable because of this error. Is the graphics card shot? Or should this be a simple fix, given that they fixed it twice and I got the same error two more times, meaning they didn't have to swap out parts or anything.
Is there anything I could do to get this fixed? I'm currently just really annoyed with it... -
So recently, my WIFI card has not been waking up every time I wake the computer from sleep. I have to reboot every 2-4 sleeps to turn it back on... very frustrating. Anybody know of a fix? I already went in to device manager to stop windows from cutting power to it but that did not help. Probably going to re-seat the card tomorrow morning just in case that's an issue for some reason.
-
Do try take the battery out and leave the machine uncut for power for a while, and then try putting it in again and turning the machine on afterwards. Seems like a small malfunction -
-
Hi All,
First post, but I have often come here as a helpful source of info.
My Clevo W150HRM (actually Kobalt Computers) has developed a hardware fault (powers off at random times...). I've tested with and without battery, on two different PSUs, re-applied thermal grease, tried different RAM, but no joy.
Can anyone direct me to somewhere that will repair Clevo machines in the UK? I've only been able to find "clevoweb.co.uk" and their price looks good, but I don't like sending my laptop somewhere unless I have some idea that it's recommended.
Any replies would be greatly appreciated. -

Hello I am looking for a copy of EC02. There was a link earlier in the thread buts it no longer working. Does anyone have a usable link?
-
There are only 3 SATA ports listed in the bios, one for HDD, one for ODD and one for eSATA ... -

Hi, I have pressure mark on my lcd laptop W150HRM.
I am now looking to replace the monitor and the code for mine is B156RW01 V.1 and is a 1600x900 matte display.
I am looking for a replacement and would like to know if there are better monitors that are compatible with this notebook.
Is there a list of models compatible? I would like one with higher gamut and contrast but I am not sure if there is a compatible model with a different serial that would work.
For example it would be awesome if there is another serial code that is compatible with my notebook and has 95% gamut but don't know where to find this info online
So far using the same serial number I have found these on Ebay
B156RW01 V.0
B156RW01 V.1
B156RW01 V.3
What would you advice?
thanks for help. -
you can get a 1920 x 1080 screen from https://www.laptopscreen.com/English/model/Clevo/W150HR/
-
and my question was a bit different.
Basically I am asking if there is a compatible newer model with a gamut more than 60% and close to 95%.
This kind of info is difficult if not impossible to find, best option is maybe buy an external monitor.
(btw I am in Europe but thanks anyway) -
Hello,
I own a Clevo W150HRM, but its rubber feet have been very prone to disappearing acts.
I managed to save a couple, but can't stably glue them with any glue I've tried, including cyanoacrylate.
I am looking into buying spare rubber feet but can't find any reseller that offers them.
Do you have any suggestions where I could get spare rubber feet?
Thanks,
Ricardo -
Have you tried "Gorilla Glue?" The stuff that expands as it cures. Difficult to apply, but with the weight of the laptop over it, shouldn't be an issue.
Unfortunately, I was unable to relocate the runaway foot on mine. -
No, I haven't. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll let you know as soon as I try it.
By the way, has anyone noticed that the webcam area gets considerably hot after long use (say 1-2h)? -
Hello folks.
I have an Avell with a Clevo W150HRM motherboard, it was bought in middle 2011.
I would like to know if there is any new BIOS version for this mobo and where I can check and get it (visited Clevo website, but found only drivers info/download). Using the CPU-Z I got the following informations:
Brand: American Megatrends Inc.
Version: 4.6.4
Date: 03/12/2011
Since now, thanks a lot. -

Is there a specific issue you are trying to fix as usually flashing the bios is not recommended unless necessary.
-
Hi Meaker.
Thanks for answering.
No, I'm not having any problem, the intention is just to have the latest BIOS version. Just for curiosity, why is not recomended to update BIOS if there is nothing wrong whit the actual version? There could appear any problem by updating it?
Again, thanks a lot. -
Hey guys,
I own a 150hrm equipped with the GT555m and i7 2670QM processor. I bought the laptop new nearly 2 years ago however I have been experiencing problems with my display.
The screen flickers to black and then shoots back to normal. It happened earlier this year but i just ignored it since i thought it was a driver problem. Several driver updates later it still happens and the frequency of flickers has increased. Anyone has experienced or recognizes this problem? Here is a video that which shows what is happening. It is hooked up to an external monitor. The flickering will only happen on the primary screen.

Thanks! -

Could you just confirm the model of machine, but it looks like the GPU is on its way out.

Hi guys!
I have this laptop, it has developed a fault though where it freezes on the "Style Note" screen and will not go any further. I have tried lots of things, such as removing everything like CD drive, WiFi card, any unnecessary bits, even changed the RAM, held the power button down for ages with no power, nothing will work! If I press the F2 or F7 keys, the text gets brighter to symbolise it has picked up the function, but goes no further.
Is there some kind of BIOS recovery available for this machine? I have tried to enter a recovery mode using Win+B, Win+F, Win+Esc, Fn+b, Fn+F, Fn+Esc, CTRL + HOME but nothing seems to work, just always gives me the Style Note screen.
I hope someone can help!
Thanks,
Graham -
Contact Sager support, they're pretty responsive and will be able to give you a list of BIOS features available (such as the Fn + 1 trick to turn your fans on at maximum).
This model laptop unfortunately has either poor quality mainboards or the some sort of fault where the power distribution on the board becomes shot.
I've had this happen twice within 2.5 years. It can manifest as little glitches such as random shutdowns, but more likely you'll see freezes (during boot or in OS) where the screen seems to just get 'stuck', or it powers off on powering on. You may also see LEDs activating but no boot, then the fan turns on at maximum power. This can continue to degrade to the point where you will be unable to successful boot the machine. Replacement of the mainboard seems to be the only resolution and costs around $500 if you're out of warranty plus shipping.
Another prevalent issue is the dedicated GPU dying, which isn't as bad I suppose as you can force integrated GPU mode.
It seems to be a specific issue with this model laptop. I've talked to two other people that have had the exact same issues, and we're all out of warranty so oh well. I have another friend who bought the higher end 81XX series at the same time and he's still truckin' away happily with it. -
My W150HR developed a similar problem as well. I've been experiencing very seldom sudden shutdowns, driver crashes and blue screens during the past year and the issue finally developed into something serious last week. My laptop freezes randomly after it switches from IGP to Nvidia card, which may happen in Windows with certain programs or after playing games. The only way to get some stability is forcing the UMA mode, but even that doesn't guarantee it won't happen, but it at least gives me a few hours of uninterrupted usage. It has something to do with either Nvidia card, or the Optimus mechanism. Either way, there's no way to fix it; I've tried numerous drivers, two formats and checked my RAMs.
I've been using this laptop very heavily for the last three years(turned on nearly 24h), so at least it did a good service while it was alive. That being said, I consider a 900 laptop dying after 3 years a bit unfair. I have an HP laptop that's been doing pretty well with similar abuse for 8 years. I'm definitely not going the custom Clevo/Sager route next time. -
Good evening, everyone. In advance, I wanted to say that I did my best to search through topics and various sites to find something, but didn't have a lot of luck finding resolutions, so here I am.
I bought my Sager from a friend about 8 months ago. He's an extremely meticulous caretaker of all of his electronic devices, so the purchase was one I couldn't pass up.
It's always run pretty hot and loud when doing graphic intensive things (videos, using Illustrator and Photoshop, 3DSMax, and, rarely, games). Given that this is supposed to be something of a gamer's rig, I expected that to be par for the course.
Recently, I decided to play NWN2, and the laptop was running super hot consistently throughout, so I'd take breaks every 30 minutes to an hour or so and do something else.
Earlier today, however, I noticed that the AC connector was stuck in the jack, and realized that the heat might have done something bad. It still rotated, at least, so I knew there wasn't a weld/fusing thing. I decided to let it get hot enough again that maybe expansion would allow it to free up enough to come out. It did, but with quite a bit of black melty plastic (sheathing of some sort?) along with it.
After letting things cool, I am able to get it to fit back in, though not particularly easily, but I haven't attempted to force it hard or anything. It does, at least, register it's getting power.
Obviously something is in bad shape, but I've no idea where to start. Has anyone encountered this problem and/or found a resolution to it?
And, to make it even more frustrating, I'm playing a cleric in NWN2 and JUST now hit the graveyard. I was super excited about wading through the undead legion and smiting them en mass
Thanks, everyone, in advance!

To be sure I would get a new AC adapter and get the jack replaced.

I am looking for the service manual for the Clevo W150HRW notebook.
I would like also to know if there is a way to add firewire to this notebook by using one of the mini-pci express to firewire card I see sold on ebay. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
If it was originally for a TV card you need to ensure it's actually pcie and not usb in disguise.
-
I'm just going to describe a process that I have gone through in relation to this notebook, and to which I have found no solution.
1. Had not gamed in awhile, decided to buy PayDay 2.
2. The game loads to a black screen.
3. Research reveals to me that the probable cause of the black screen is that the game does not recognize Intel Integrated Graphics chipsets.
4. My global setting for games is to use the Nvidia 555M, not the integrated chip. But as I know from owning this notebook, it often likes to disregard instructions and do whatever it seemingly wants to do.
5. I update my GeForce drivers and there are no problems in the installation, but nothing actually works. That is, no graphics-intensive programs can be run. Windows 7 remains in "basic color" mode, and when I right-click the desktop to look for my GeForce options menu, there is none.
6. Manually going into the Control Panel and trying to launch the GeForce app causes a pause, then a notice that it has failed to launch.
7. Driver cleaning, rolling back, clean installs, moving to older versions, none of these actions solve this problem.
I would really like to avoid doing an entire clean install of Windows. What gives? -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Does device manager show the nvidia chip? Contact your reseller as the gpu is potentially damaged.
-
I'm running a standard win 7 pro on my clevo. Does anyone have any clue as to what might cause this? Overheating is out of the question i suppose, since I already cleaned it and made sure it never got above 70 degrees celsius when this started to occur. Furthermore, it happens on both linux and windows, making it no driver issue either.
