Does anyone know if the blu-ray burner drive burns double-layer blu-rays on this unit?

It's probably just something to do with time delay from being a Singapore company using a US manufacturer. Someone else that understands how the overseas resellers work might have a better idea, though.

    No idea.

From Cube's website, it looks like their order turn around time is much longer so I wouldn't be too surprised. Mine shipped on 3/29, but I'd give it another week or just contact Cube to get an ETA.

Alright! great news for anyone trying to run Linux on this machine. Although Optimus still doesn't work and running the Nvidia card is still not an option, the great ppl at Linux Hybrid Graphics are working hard and it is now possible to at least turn off the Nvidia card with acpi_call.

I just now got that working so I'll let you guys know how the battery time improves. The SB driver is still a bit glitchy, so 3D games will lag on occasion (even low end ones like CS or Neverball) but I would imagine that will improve. Everything else is working flawlessly.

I stopped keeping track of this thread, but if anyone has any questions about running Linux on this baby just pm me.

I also need to run Linux and that was great news. I knew the community wouldn't leave this behind.
    Thanks!

this is what ive done so far-
put the windows 7 disc in
    formated the drive
    installed windows 7
    installed the drivers from cd

and thats it. but i cant get the internet to work. i have wireless internet and its working fine (this old laptop im on now is connected fine to wifi/firefox/steam/etc). but my new sager says 'no connection available' it wont even let me search for a network. does the wireless card in it have a switch or something? or a function control? i could only find bluetooth :(

please can someone help me quick! haha i want to start installing programs and anti virus, etc... also, my windows 7 isnt activated yet if that has anything to do with it.

Hello I don't know very much about computers but, in an earlier post someone asked if you could upgrade the graphics/video card, and you said no since it was attached to the motherboard. I was wondering could you replace the motherboard with another with the new graphics/ video card, or what would need to be done to upgrade?

You'll have to get a whole new chassis with a new motherboard. You can utilize the same hard disk, memory and processor (supposing they're all compatible with the new motherboard).

In other words, you shouldn't get this notebook if you want to do that.

The Sager NP8150 is the one you should seek. Its video card can be upgraded.

ok at starbucks again, and this time i decided to use power saver mode + turned down the brightness all the way (still very readable). Doing some word processing (google docs) and some web browsing for a little over an hour. As of now Battery Bar says the battery would last 4 hours 1 minute. It was higher but browsing sites with flash ads kind of brought it down. This is more in line with what I expected, though I wish I didn't have to resort to such measures. Nevertheless, I'll take what I can get.

I think 4 hours is great for a 15-incher. I may be outdated, but I couldn't cite any other that keeps running for that long and also would have good performance when plugged to the wall.

I agree most of the time it doesn't dip into the teens. It is not every 4v4 game, but enough of them that I experienced the fps in the teens type lag, that I have dropped to low settings to ensure no problems in 4v4. Just click control-alt-f to watch the framerates. Depends on your playstyle whether occasional dips into the teens will be a big problem or not. For me it was enough of a problem to drop to low. But my clicks per second are usually much higher than most people so for others it may not be as much of a problem.

Is gt540M really that useless? I thought it's a class 2 graphic card. (according to notebookcheck.com). Even Acer TimelineX series is using gt540M now.

No it is not upgradeable. Only a handful of laptops are capable. It's usually built into the board

    It's a midrange card

Bump, also, any updates from Clevo/SAGER on disabling HT? I'd imagine it would save a bit of energy in any state of usage as well as reducing heat on load. If I recall correctly HT would make a i7 920 run 5~ degrees C hotter than if it were disabled (or compared to a 750/760).

Just ordered mine, now in phase 2, very excited! So here's my question. I configured mine with a DVD drive for OS installs and whatnot but I would like to use that slot for an extra hard drive the majority of the time. Where can I buy just an adapter to plug an extra hard drive into the optical drive slot? Does sager sell just the adapter or is it pretty generic?

A better way to do it would be to get the 2nd HDD in your ODD slot, and then get the external USB Combo Dual Layer DVD +/-R/RW CD-R/RW Drive. This way you don't have to swap and you will have all three drives available when you have the external USB drive plugged in.

If you swap, you will only have one bezel (faceplate) and one mounting bracket for one of the drives, and nothing for the other one which makes it very awkward.

In hindsight, I think you're right. It's too bad I've already placed the order. My reasoning was that the laptop optical drive takes up almost no room in a laptop bag since I'll very rarely need it. Oh well.

any consensus about the screen quality? specifically the FHD 1920x1080 glare/gloss.

i'm not a big gamer, but i do a lot of document viewing and media multitasking. as such, brightness and b/w document contrast is more important for me.

EDIT: OKAY, anandtech reviewed the matte screen for the p150HM, and it's top notch. however, given the general high quality of clevo screens, it should be a safe bet that the gloss screen is pretty good too.

So i got mine yesterday... So far i have to say that something impress me very much with this laptop. I had a Qosmio F60-00M previously.

The first thing you see when you open the box of the laptop is the glossy black cover. It is infact very glossy but the pattern on it makes it looks very classy and elegant.

Then as you open the cover to reveal the screen and the keyboard, you notice the nice layout of the keyboard.
    1) One thing that annoys me is the glossy black around the top front bezel (where the webcam is situated). I have already have some scuff marks on it.
    2) The keyboard layout looks good but when you use it, you notice the arrow keys that cut into the numpad and the Delete, Home and End buttons which need the num lock to be turned off to use them.
    3) I would like the trackpad to be a little bit bigger and not to mention a little smoother... the one on it right now is a very rough texture.
    4) The keys are good to type on but a little spring like, so they have quite a bit of feedback... good or bad depends on each individual.

When you fire it up you notice the screen... i have to admit, this is probably the best screen i have ever looked at on a 15" laptop. (i have a glossy FHD). It is very bright at the same time very crisp and clear for pictures and so on (when you calibrate windows colour management).

The laptop seems to have trouble playing flash videos on youtube. When its playing a video and you hit the fullscreen button it freezes or wont show video and have to restart the computer.

Overall the build quality feels very good... even though it is plastic, it is very well built. No creaks anywhere whatsoever.

Hi, new to the site- just got my NP5160 and loving it! I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for carrying cases/backpacks? I'm thinking of getting something light and portable, as well as something bigger I can take on as a carry-on bag... Suggestions?

    Thanks

right click inside the video frame and click settings, then disable hardware acceleration, and it should play full screen fine without causing the freeze

Had this problem too. Did a bit of googling and found a fix. To fix it, right click on the flash video and click settings. Go to the display tab and uncheck the enable hardware acceleration box. Fixes all of those problems.

    Edit: ninja'd
