Intel really did not make this decision easier with going down to 8 cores. If somebody had asked me before Rocket Lake information was first leaked I would have expected Intel to stay with 10 cores or even go up to 12.

Ah, sorry man. Mine is all packed up ready to be shipped back to Sager due to cosmetic defects in the chassis. They will be sending me a new replacement supposedly. Still waiting on confirmation, otherwise it'll be a straight return & reordering again. So might be a little while! :(

    Thank you!
    1) run the monitor at full refresh rate
    2) maybe enable windowed G-sync to roll out every possibility
    3) try to hold the camera as close as possible for the 3 lines to be visible
    4) please make both picture ad video (at at least 60 fps) and upload it somewhere where is no or only minimal quality loss. For the video youtube will be good since that's the easiest.

Thank you for doing the test !

Maybe in single core benchmarks but probably not in multi core loads. Not so sure you’ll see any of the OEMs will let it run free and pull up to +-250w power as the equivalent Intel desktop CPUs :D

Would it be possible to get a B173ZAN03.3 120hz 4K panel in one of these?

Will the 11th gen be a new model, BIOS flash, or is it already supported?

(Edit) I just found enough information to answer this on the following pages of the discussion.. Sorry for beating the horse again.

Because of imperfect heatsink contact? That's quite a categorical no.

Is this a problem on the SM ?

Is there a way to turn off overdrive with prema bios?

    Hi,

I watched Bob of all trades videos on this model. I remember seeing/hearing him mention a Mr.Foxrox mod, but I can't find more information on it. Can you point me at where to learn more about this?

Thank you for doing the test! Was windowed G-Sync active?
Do I remember correctly, that you have the 300 Hz panel?

I will be honest, I am not sure about the result. I do not see any significant corona effect, however I can not roll out the possibility of overdrive not being active because the image should be smudgy due to the IPS "slow" response time.

MaxxDamage on another forum made a similar test with the SM-G (240 Hz panel):

Here the corona effect is much more visible, expesially at the 3rd line. You can clearly see extra white outline on the left side.

So I am guessing 2 things:
    1) LCD overdrive is disabled and the panel and the image is not smudgy because the panel has 1 ms response time
    2) LCD overdrive is active, however Clevo fine tuned it so it is much more tolerable and almost perfect

We can roll out option 1) since this panel obviously does not have 1 ms response time. If I remember correctly tests show 5-10 ms response time which is quite good for laptops, but not good enough for the image to be this sharp.
I believe Clevo tuned overdrive down from Extreme to normal which makes the image sharp and reduces the corona effect.

If we compare the 2 pictures I think the KM is better on this part than the SM.

    What do you guys think?

ps: If anyone has a KM with a 144 Hz panel, could you please do this same test so we could see that panel too? :) Thank you!

Comparing those 2 pictures, it does look like KM has less corona effect. Looks a bit cleaner.

I wonder if there is a way to change the settings, and if the settings stay locked for people that have changed panels?

If you are talking about overdrive and the like that's embedded on the LCD controller.

So is the overdrive settings on the LCD controller user adjustable ?

And do you know if the X170 SM-G LCD overdrive settings different than the X170 KM-G ?

No, overdrive settings are not adjustable on Clevo laptops. Most laptop manufacturers have their own software to control cpu, gpu and the fans, in Clevo's case this is Clevo Control Center. Other manufacturers give the option to toggle overdrive on/off in their software, however Clevo is stubborn and still does not offer this option. Because of this Clevo is the one who decides if overdrive is active or not and if yes then what level because this setting is stored in the bios which is not user accessable.

That is interesting. So if one were to have an X170 that ran the Prema bios would that give you access to those settings?

And what about running Obsidian tools instead of CCC to run the lights and fans etc, would that give a user control over those settings?

I don't think the KM series are officially supported as Obsidian tools is practically EOL since the end of 2020.

Did something change on the X170KM? I had no issues using Obsidian Tools for LED and fan controls with the X170. CCC is pretty horrible and I'd go out of my way to use something else if it were available. Either Obsidian Tools or Brother @S.K CCC mod. I'd rather not have LED and fan controls than have CCC installed. It's utter trash, just as Alienware Command Center, MSI Dragon Center, and all of the other brands of bloatware trash the laptop OEMs provide. All of them got a helluva lot worse when they started kissing Micro$lop's butt with the UWP filth from the $tore.

    https://ztecpc.com/ they have it exclusivly

Mr. Fox developed PROPRIETARY 3x3 Thermal Mods for the zT-X170SM-G that include:
    1. A 3-Part Hardware Mod to the Heat Sink and
    2. A 3-Part Barrier for Containment of Liquid Meta

The results are what matter. Used with either Phobya NanoGrease Extreme or Coollaboratory Liquid Pro, these mods SUBSTANTIALLY drop the out of box heavy load temp

In addition to the mods Mr. Fox developed, NotebookReview notebook enthusiasts jc_denton and Papusan taught us how to 'bake' Coollaboratory Liquid Pro into the heatsink to saturate it for longer life.s.l,

Normally you can still use all features of Obsidian Tools. I have a P775TM not a X170 so I wouldn't know 100% of course. Problems might arise with new Windows updates etc.

Does anyone know how HiDevolution is offering custom Prema BIOS for their Evoc x170km-g if others have said Prema hasn't updated it yet...? Are they running the same Prema BIOS from the sm-g, shipping it with stock and updating it later, or do they actually have a new Prema BIOS for the km-g?

Prema is working on a new BIOS for the KM-G. I think partner vendors will flash it remotely once it's available.

Hi guys. It’s been ages since I posted here.
I’m about pull the trigger on this beast, but I have two questions.

Is it worth all the extra money to get the 11900K for gaming, compared to the 11700K?

Should I get a 300 hertz display? I don’t see the point when it has G-sync and you’re playing games where you get 60 to 90 FPS.

Depends what games you play. You could even get a cherry picked 11900k along the road and stick to a 11700k for now.

9/10 game gains about +2 fps. Totally not worth it imo. Both are 8 cores + 16 threads, 11900k not worth the extra +2 fps.

    I don’t understand why Nvidia can’t give us a 200W RTX 3080.
Even worse, the memory bandwidth is about the same as the 2080. They couldn’t even be bothered to use GDDR6X. So frustrating.

Given the limited power and how hungry GDDR6X that might not be the case.

    Touche.

All I know is, the mobile RTX 3080 only has slightly more memory bandwidth than my GTX 1080, while the desktop 3080 version has tons more bandwidth.
