Did you talk with HID? I wrote my reseller, if i can use a XMG Bios because of the problems and he send mit the 1.07.06 Bios from Clevo.

So you can ask HID, to use a different Bios or get an update.

Are you talking Clevo's latest or Xotic's official latest? Sometimes they're not in sync.

Just updated Bios 1.07.06 I got by mail from Sager's support team.
Bios has less features then XMG's but as I'm not overclocking it's not that important to me.

Thats great ! My old MSI titan Mini display couldnt do more then 60 hz so i used usbc port to get high refresh rate. THis is good because now i dont need to use thunderbolt port for external monitor for high refresh rate

I see some resellers are starting to have the x170km available with a 165Hz QHD g-sync screen.

Anyone have experience with this panel yet? Is it properly good?
Or is it like other QHD screens available right now, like on Lenovo’s Legion 7, which are slow as heck?

Hey guys I was thinking about getting the extended warranty from HID but is it really needed ? The only thing that i would be concerned is the GPU because it cost 2000 dollars US for replacement. Is there a standward warranty for the 3080 mobile like for example my 2080ti has a 3 year warranty from Asus. So basically what im asking is do the idividual parts have there own warranty ? I thinkl the motherboard from Eurocom was like 600 dollars so i dont think that would be a big deal. Right now i have a defective 3080 and have to send it back hopefully they can see its defective.

GPU warranty is the length of the HID warranty. Depending on how much you paid vs cost of warranty and how important the system is to you and how long you plan to use it, an extended warranty is a nice peace of mind purchase not only for the GPU but the entire system if something goes wrong and you can't narrow it down you can just send it to them to be repaired under warranty.

That’s true I’m sure installing a bios that isn’t approved by your reseller will void. I only play games and have no desire to do anything crazy other then maybe grab a 10900k and pop it in. I just want my graphics card to not show artifacts at random times. If I could get that I will get peace of mind

Think I'm going to take the plunge on a X170KM barebone with 3080 and the QHD 165Hz screen.

What CPU do you guys figure makes the best combo? Main use will be gaming, sometimes batch photo editing.
Looking at the i7 11700K and i7 10850K, around the same price.
Also 10900K or 11900K for about 150€ more. But I live in a hot country so maybe the temperature headroom isn't great? 11900K doesn't seem like a big upgrade from the 11700K in this form factor.

Asides from the CPU, any pointers on gen4 SSDs that don't boil themselves? :p

    Thanks

LaptopParts4Less have it in stock, should appear with more sellers soon. From my gathering it's just came out and might replace some of the 1080p panels available. But I'm not sure.

The 11900k is a binned 11700k. You can target better clocks for the voltage but has a premium on it.

Think it's worth it? I do like tinkering but I'm not up for liquid metal or risky delidding.

What about the 10850K? I can find it for a great price. Like 200€ less than the i9s.

It’s unacceptable to be honest. HID gives you free lifetime support. I think I understand why is because it takes a lifetime for them to get back to you. No seriously for this type of money you expect little personal touch like from a local plumber (I’m a plumber) or local barber. They know your name not look at you as a number. The excitement is gone from my purchase and don’t have any feel good factor. Not to mention confidence in these types of company’s. On the flip side I can understand how customers can get nasty and try and take advantage of a company. Also HID claims to offer a “different buying experience “ but honestly it’s just the same as other like eurocom and your company exotic. I just want my laptop fix. I got no I’m really sorry or anything genuinely admitting fault. Imagine spending 4000 dollars US on a boiler in your home and the heat shuts off in middle of winter. They don’t respond for 3 days and say fill this out and don’t respond for another 2. You would call them crooks? It isn’t right

Depends how much you want to wring out and tweak it. The 10850k is basically a 10900k that could not quite meet the binning requirements.

I'd personally get a 11 series and use the pci-e lanes for the direct attach storage.

I am sorry, I do not know the answer. I haven't paid any attention to that simply because I don't care about TB3 and have no use for it. I hope someone else can help with the answer you need. Is this specific to the implementation on X170KM or just general technical info? I ask because if it is machine-specific info you need, then @Meaker@Sager might know or have the ability to find out.

Unfortunately no. There is a wide variance on the capabilities of this particular chip.

Some i9 11900Ks run very hot and draw over 300 watts when fully loaded across all cores (running at the stock all core speed of course) while others run cool and draw 240 watts or less at the same speed. It's ridiculous how much variation there is.

And, Silicon Lottery is going out of business, so the possibility of avoiding disappointment by paying more for a cherry-picked chip is also going away.

Silicon Lottery will be closed after October 31st.
    STORE CLOSING
Our online store will be closing on October 31, 2021. Any orders placed for our delidding service will need to be delivered to us by November 30, 2021 for completion. For warranty or other assistance after we close the store, contact us at the email listed on your packing slip.

We have had a fantastic time these past seven years at Silicon Lottery. This business has grown and made an impact on so many people, more than I ever imagined was possible. I personally appreciate all of you that I’ve been able to talk with over these years, from troubleshooting to general questions to speculation. It’s been so easy to connect with so many of you through this hobby we share.

We’re shutting down not for just one reason, but for a combination of many. As you may be aware, overclocking headroom has been dwindling these past several years with manufacturers offering higher frequencies at stock, better boosting algorithms, and tighter bins between models which reduces overclock frequency variation (the 11900K is essentially a binned 11700K, so with the 11900K we’re binning what has already been fairly heavily binned). This type of product segmentation is nothing new, but having such minor differences between two models is a more recent shift. Intel has also switched from a polymer TIM back to a solder TIM starting with their 9th generation CPUs, which has reduced the thermal benefits achieved from delidding. In addition, supply issues have taken a major toll on us, even before the pandemic started. Our orders with distributors for the last few releases have been nightmares of delays upon delays.

With all of this in mind, sales have fallen below the point where it makes sense for us to keep the store open. We know many of you are eagerly wanting Alder Lake CPUs, and we’re sorry that we won’t be able to fulfill your needs this time. We have seen your emails rolling in these past couple of weeks, and we’re sorry for not getting back to you guys earlier as we’ve been busy juggling this decision.

While we will be closed for the foreseeable future, it’s not necessarily goodbye forever. If things change in the market, in particular if overclocking headroom and variation increases for whatever reason, it’s possible we will get things rolling again.

We wish all of you the best, and to keep having fun tweaking hardware!

The variance is pretty massive and in the compact chassis of the X170KM that variance would show up even more even running at stock a 30-40w variance is pretty substantial.
