It mainly applies to random RAM. If you install RAM that is officially supported by the machine, then it should be fine. Kingston and Crucial memory kits work well with this laptop.

Having said that, you'll run into issues if you're using a kit of 4 fast RAM modules. The 2 slots under the bottom cover really do not like 3200 MHz RAM. That speed is only stable if you install the memory in the 2 slots under the keyboard. If you want a 4 stick configuration, you'll need to go with something slower like 2666 MHz RAM. I don't know if 2933 MHz RAM is stable or not stable in the 2 slots under the bottom cover

Sounds like the slots are wired daisy chain instead of t-topology. I have seen a few ATX boards the same way.

This kit is the one I was thinking of:

    https://www.amazon.com/Kingston-FUR...QZF7/ref=dp_prsubs_1?pd_rd_i=B097QKQZF7&psc=1

3200 CL20 was definitely not stable in those bottom slots, but 3200 CL22 was.

That helps. It looks like the seller I was looking at isn’t doing much of an upcharge on Ram anyway so I may just get it from them.

You do get interference with stacked memory slots due to the way sodimms are wired too.

So the good news is I stopped my blue screens. The bad is that i fell back to Balanced Windows power profile. Ultimate Performance crashes 2-3 times a day, High Performance maybe once.
    CC Power mode is Performance.
The actual performance hit is imperceptible in my workload but it's annoying to be limited.

I see you guys discovered issues with 128/3200. Maybe I'll try giving up the extra 64gig.

I simply ran timespy with Ultimate plan and the system just shutdown after a few minutes which makes me believe the EC tripped for either power or temps.

Since then I have stayed on Balanced, as I do know that on High Performance and Performance in CCC the CPU will hit 96c without thinking twice.

After I get my custom laptop stand made I will be redoing not just the paste but the pads if they tear. Been told they are 2mm pads with diameter and characteristics.

Although as was asked not to shared the documentation thus will not be doing so.

Heck the CPU hits 86c whilst gaming on entertainment profile and balanced power plan.

Have you checked the temperature of your SSD? There is a topic on Reddit (XMG) where excess SSD temperature causes a shutdown

    Hello,
Does anybody know if it works with only one power source?
The technical specs for the XMG Ultra from Schenker seem to indicate this. here -> https://bestware.com/en/xmg-ultra-17-e21.html - and select technical specs
"For normal operation two power supplies are required. In operation with one power supply, the whole system is supplied with a maximum of 110 watts, the CPU runs with a maximum of 30 watts. Furthermore, the battery must be installed and at least 10% charged."

Well...mine doesn't work with only one supply cable plugged in...in just runs on battery power. :))

Any know where I can find one of these 165Hz QHD panels for sale with EU shipping?

Would it be compatible with all versions of the X170KM-G? Or do the barebones have different display cables between them? Like a less bandwidth cable with the 144Hz FHD option than on the 4K panel? Does that make sense?
Seen it before on an HP Omen.

It depends on the vendor. Each vendor uses different firmware, so there are differences in performance between them.

XMG's X170KM-G does indeed work with one power supply, put performance is limited. The same laptop from other vendors may or may not work with only one power supply plugged in.

Regardless, it's stupid for the firmware to throttle the laptop to 110 watts systemwide when one power supply can supply 280 watts of power. You should at least be able to draw that much power, but the firmware power throttles the laptop. That's one of the very few downsides of this laptop.

Just curious though, why would you two not want to use both power supplies? Are you trying to only use 1 power outlet? If so, you can get a power splitter cable for that: https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Leader-Universal-Splitter-IEC320/dp/B01M27RG1G?ref_=ast_sto_dp

There is no new BIOS as such, but there is a batch file for unlocking hidden functions in the BIOS. My supplier has it, I'm working to get it. But I'm afraid that even if I get it, I will be bound by the obligation not to distribute it publicly (( (

    @goguvarra

Unfortunately, operating X170 on a single 280W power adapter will be very limited.

    - The CPU and GPU performance will drop down to Battery Mode performance, but without actually depleting the battery.

    - In this mode, the system will draw only up to a maximum of 110W out of the wall socket, despite having a 280W adapter

    - This will limit the CPU Package Power to around 30W. Enough for simple tasks, but surely not enough for serious CPU rendering

    - The system will require the Li-Ion battery to be present and to have at least 10% charge

    - With a single power supply, it won't be possible to charge the battery, even when the system is powered off"

This is not entirely true, I also have the ability to unlock the BIOS for my clients, my supplier has such an opportunity and other resellers in the Asian segment of the market also have it, and if you don’t, then you are apparently not interested in giving this opportunity to your clients, a purely personal opinion, maybe I'm wrong)))

Are you finding that this custom bios is stable or have you run into any issues so far?

I am a seller of Clevo laptops in Russia and this unlock file was provided to me by my partner from China, so I am bound by obligations and cannot publicly distribute any documents or files related to the business without his knowledge. In the photo, not a custom BIOS, but the official Clevo BIOS for this laptop model, since I did not change or reflash anything in it, I just unlocked the tabs in the BIOS menu. And it will work exactly the same as before, except for the fact that now there are more opportunities to customize the system for yourself as you want it.

So Basically its a flipped NVRAM variable going from 0 to 1 to show the whole bios options. Which in turn means all the script is doing is some how doing that bit flip via OS.

I could have a fix for you but I'd first need to see if you're running into the same issue as I was:

    1. Could you check if your event viewer logged an error code 14 caused by nvlddmkm?

Should report the error as something like this if you look back at your event logs to around the time it happened:

"The description for Event ID 14 from source nvlddmkm cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

    \Device\Video3
    CMDre 00000003 000038b4 00000000 00000003 00000000

The message resource is present but the message was not found in the message table"

    2. If you do manage to browse through your events also check if you were getting any occasional WHEA errors at any point in time that point back to the GPU.

    Cool...

    No event 14, but a warning 4101.
Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered.

"successfully recovered" means something different where i come from...

Whea logger says it corrected a hardware error at that time.
