What is the minimum clock speed for the 10850k while I am web browsing or etc
Just curious sorry

If anyone else was having issues undervolting, I was seeing a lot more success using QuickCPU over ThrottleStop. I was able to get -80mv on both core/cache along with a +175core/+500mem overlock on the GPU. So far haven't seen any crashes running benchmarks. Going to leave it there over the weekend and see if anything goes awry with day to day use.
There is so much room for additional power on the GPU. My average GPU temperature when running TimeSpy were 57*C

I’m a bit confused. Are you guys saying that in order to get full PCIE 4.0 speeds, I have to use SSD slot 4?
If so, I am going to have to contact HID and change my order. My build is setup to use slot 1.
This is nuts. -
To me, it seems like Nvidia is ripping us off by not giving us a 200 watt GPU.
The previous model, RTX 2080 super, was 200 watts.
I would be willing to bet money that they will eventually bring out a 200 watt upgrade. (3080 super?)
Also, my current laptop is the one with GTX 1080 SLI. These are 200 watt GPUs...TIMES TWO!!!
That is a laptop from 2016!
So Nvidia is actually going backwards in terms of giving us the best possible performance. And they are still charging just as much money! -
Trend is thin and 200w might be dead indeed.

Try running CB23 at stock multicore and see how it performs at stock (4.8ghz all core) both pull and temps. -
You would hope that they will have the sense to install a Gen 4 SSD in slot 4, but follow-up with them to get it done.
-
Can confirm that the Evo 980 that I received from HIDevolution was slotted in slot 1 and hence running on PCIE Gen 3 originally. Popping open the back and moving it to the PCIE gen 4 capable slot was a piece of cake though, took less than 10 minutes. Now the SSD is running at correct speeds, no issues so far.exmeaguy likes this.

Nice results, and indeed Throttlestop doesn't seem to fully support 11th gen Intel yet. Using QuickCpu has gotten me better results too, as far as undervolting CPU is concerned.
Do you mind me asking what you're using to overclock the GPU? I was only capable of getting +75 on core stable, not sure if I'm doing it wrong. Using MSI afterburner -
Also, and sorry to be a nuisance but have you noticed and WHEA corrected errors popping up in event viewer that point to the GPU as the faulting device? I keep having intermittent entries pop up in the event viewer and I'm trying to figure out if its a false alarm of indeed the GPU is having issues. Asking you in particular because I noticed we got the same CPU+GPU combo

Yes along with the 9900KS. -
Is ks the non uhd graphics cpu? Or is that the kf
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
KF was the without graphics option, the KS was a limited edition like the 8086k.

It looks like it pulled around 220W max and temps peaked at 98C. Result was 15005 points.
I guess at least now it is getting easier to actually find a good binned sample. Even Best Buy has them for $549.Attached Files:

I'm just using MSI Afterburner as well. The OC tool wasn't working for me with the new or legacy versions, so I just slightly moved the clocks up until I started seeing artifacts, then knocked the clock back down until they went away. I didn't run into any issue while bumping memory up to +500, but it makes a nice round 7500mhz so I didn't feel the need to bump it up any higher yet.
I didn't see any WHEA-Logger events in System in the Event Viewer. At least so far.
Edit:
Though, I do have a question. Has anyone been able to install a standard nVidia driver on this system? I downloaded 466.27 standard but it didn't seem to have the device ID for the 3080 card in these systems. DCH did work fine, but I ended up having to install a stock Windows OS, but would prefer to move back to one trimmed back down if possible.

Typically on upgradeable laptops such as these, we have to take matters into our own hands which can be annoying at times.
Fortunately, we no longer have to do driver modding manually. To easily install any version of Nvidia's graphics drivers on your system, you can use nvcleanstall to inject your device id into the driver you download using the tool. You can find it here: https://www.techpowerup.com/download/techpowerup-nvcleanstall/.
Nvcleanstall also allows you to install only what you need, and allows you to disable driver telemetry. I'd say give it a whirl. It'll make your life easier.

Ahh, it's come so far beyond what I remember in manually fetching device IDs and modifying ini files. (Or just downloading a pre-modified)
I know what's going to be keeping me up late tonight. Time for an OS re-install with a watered down Win10 install and see if I can squeeze a bit more performance out of it.Clamibot likes this. -
I replace my p775dm-g that came with a 980m, with a 1070.
Can i use this NVCleanstall to install the driver without having to edit all the time the ini file and enter in special mode windows? -

Nvcleaninstall self signs the driver so you can inject the ID and install like normal.

You only have to do it when updating normally anyway. -

Microcenter has them in stock for $519.99 (!)
For myself, I was using my desktop to test chips at a fixed frequency to see how they stacked up against each other while also running a stress suite while manually lowering the vcore to see at what point it would fail to pass.
I'm not sure if your BIOS at this time allows override settings for vcore?
For example the two 11900k's I'm testing now on pure auto vcore:
Chip A: 4800 stock = 1.284v pulled under CB23 load resulting in ~214w max temp = 68 / max single thread = 5.3ghz
Chip B: 4800 stock = 1.162v pulled under CB23 load resulting in ~199w max temp = 64 / max single thread = 5.5ghz
So I know on auto both chips can do the above on CB23 as a baseline control.
I'll end up getting in there and manually dialing in the absolute lowest they can take from 4.5 - 5.0 stable and the load pull and temps will drop even more.
This is the same process I took with my P870TM1-G and when I finally locked down on the best, coolest running 9900k/ks I could find that is the one I installed. It ran so quiet I didn't even delid it. I just used a shim mod. With Prema
I was able to use the collected data and set it in BIOS and lock it down and tweak it a little based on the extra heat the smaller HSF provided and dial it in.
I'm starting the same, preliminary work for the X170KM while we wait for Prema BIOS to be released.Clamibot likes this. -

For anyone interested:
I now have a pair of MSI GE66 230W AC adapters, which are working great with the X170KM. These are the special version that use the same "box power plug". They are detected correctly and allow full GPU/CPU power under load and can charge the battery at the same time. These adapters are made by Delta and are both smaller and lighter than the 280W Chicony adapters. The price was $150 each from MSI US Store. So if you are looking at reducing the travel weight it is a good option. -
Can someone that has the X170KM actually weigh the laptop by itself? Websites state that it is about 8.4 lbs, but I read a review on the SM model from last fall and they listed the weight at over 10 lbs and the models appear to be the same.

My config is 10.2lbs. It could be heavier if loaded up with 4 sticks of ram and 4 SSDs. The stock 280W AC adapters are 1lb 15oz each not including the wall cables.
Yes, the LG FHD 144hz Gsync panel is great. I would prefer a WQHD option like what they are using on the Tongfang laptops and may try an upgrade if I can find the panel.exmeaguy likes this. -

1440p is quite fine at that size but if you rely on the panel it has benefits. -
Hey guys, long time lurker but first post. Anywho, Ive been wanting an X170 for years. My old 970m alienware just doesnt cut it anymore and Im wanting to switch back from console gaming back to PC. I am wanting to build one out myself so I am ordering a barebones X170KM-G kit from RJTech with the 3080. I already ordered an 11900k cpu (I will be taking my chances and delidding this), WD SN850 2TB drive.
I have a few questions though, I really want a 4k 120Hz display but I dont see any clevo kits coming with one. I do creative work on the road so thats why I want a 4k display. I was going to settle on the 4k 60hz display as this is the same panel thats in my current alienware. After reading through the forums, I found a 4k 120Hz panel B173ZAN03.3 that I read works with the X170SM models. Any reason I cant just order my barebones kit with the FHD 144Hz panel and then swap out my display with the B173ZAN03.3? It will essentially be the same price doing it this way vs settling for a 4k 60Hz. Am I missing something or should this be a direct swap?
Second question is with Ram on the x170KM-G. Does the stock clevo bios support XMP profiles? Im between XMP 3200MHz ram vs JEDEC native 3200MHz.
I do electrical work and bench level soldering repair work in aviation so working on laptops will be easy for me. Thats why I wanted to get the barebones kit and assemble it myself. I do plan to do my own thermal mod experiments with this housing as well once I get everything in hand. I am debating if I should not buy through rjtech and order a barebones through a prema partner but its like a $500 increase if I do so. I know prema hasnt released his bios for this model yet but I would like to have his bios when available. Will Prema accept direct payment for his bios if I send the laptop to him? -
You should be able to do a direct panel swap if the screen you are looking at is listed as compatible with the X170KM-G.
As for XMP profiles, I don't think the stock BIOS supports them, although I need someone else to verify this, so don't take my word for it.
Regarding Prema's BIOS, yes it is possible to obtain his BIOS by offering a donation to him for his hard work. His partner shops will remote flash his BIOS onto your system when it's available, should you purchase a system from them. I imagine Prema does the same thing. Do note that buying from a partner shop is the only way to guarantee you get his BIOS. You can still try to pay him for it, and he'll probably be very happy you're offering compensation for his work, but he is a busy individual. Therefore, I'd still recommend buying from a partner shop. -
hacktrix2006 Hold My Vodka, I going to kill my GPU
Prema did mention that you can enable XMP via Intel XTU on the X170, it would then reboot the system and apply the XMP profile. You can then uninstall XTU after as it saves the setting in the bios.

I ended up cancelling my order with RJTech so I can order from one of his partners. I feel like not having his bios is wrong when dealing with a laptop in this price range. I figure Prema is very busy and Id rather not risk missing out on his bios. If XTU works to set XMP profiles then that settles which ram I will be ordering.
I read in the manual that if you use a PCIe 4.0 SSD like the WD SN850 i have ordered, then I cannot use another ssd in the other slots at the same time? Can anyone confirm if this is the case?Clamibot and electrosoft like this. -

That trick probably does not work anymore. The last version of Intel XTU that supports memory tuning, 6.5.2.40, cannot install on the X170KM due to it not supporting the Z590 chipset.
For best compatibility I would suggest two sticks of memory with Samsung or Micron IC's using JEDEC timings.Papusan likes this. -
Xtu can’t be installed?

Hi I am new. I am just wondering. I am wanting to get this the clevo X170km soon. I just want to know if I will run in to thermal or power limit issues. I will either get the model with the I7 11700F or I9 10900F. I don't really want the K series chip because I'm worried about thermal or power throttling. I will get it with an rtx 3080. From Avadirect. I want to play microsoft flight simulator without any thermal throttling, overheating etc. I want a big powerful easy to upgrade laptop. Is this a good option. Is the included control center 3.0 good?

Still waiting for mine, just curious how fast does it boot

Ive been looking at the Crucial ballistix 3200MHz with CL16. Im just not sure if the XMP profiles will work and if not, I might order the Oloy native Jedec 3200MHz with CL18 but someone on amazon said they saw CL17 with it. Hope someone can clarify if the new XTU works on these laptops or not.
-
If you install that SSD into the single M.2 slot next to the larger fan, then yes, the other slots are disabled. However if you install an SSD in one or all the 3 M.2 slots that are next to the smaller fan, then you can use up to those 3 slots.
You can only use one of these sets of slots at a time. Using either set disables the other set. I'd just populate the 3 M.2 slots that are next to each other. -
Thats a shame. For now ill install into the PCIe 4 slot just to see how the 4.0 speeds are and swap it over if I find 2Tb isnt enough storage.

Does any of the KM users know if undervolting is possible from the default bios or CPU settings are hidden the same way as in the SM and undervolting is only possible from the Clevo Control Center ?
In previous Clevo laptops one good reason for a K CPU was that with the K CPU it is possible to undervolt from the bios. Is it possible to undervolt in the bios with the KM ?
If it's like the SM then is it possible to undervolt a non K CPU in CCC or Clevo hides this setting for a non k CPU which means that it is better idea to buy a K CPU to get better temps ? -
hacktrix2006 Hold My Vodka, I going to kill my GPU
On my KM it's only possible to undervolt with K or KF processors. I have a locked 11th gen CPU and can confirm that FIVR is locked for undervolting.
Sent from my SNE-LX1 using Tapatalk -
With the stock BIOS it's not possible to undervolt from the BIOS menu. The only option is to enable overclocking functionality from the bios, then configure from the OS. I don't know if there's any magic to CCC in being able to undervolt non-K, but my experience with CCC on a 11900k was that it would just BSOD my system regularly on C state changes. I had to just not install CCC and use QuickCPU to do any undervolting. (WIll go back and just set the undervolt in the BIOS if it's available in the Prema release)
