I sometimes get crashes when loading a level and have to force kill BF4 and try again. Yesterday it wouldn't launch at all and I fixed this by manually updating Punkbuster. It will occasionally crash on the loading screen or when starting a new map, but usually it's fine.

Are you over clocking/undervolting? That *might* be a cause for your restarts or crashes at random during those two games.

Did you repaste? I'm considering buying some q tips and isopropyl alcohol just to repaste. Brought the thermal paste to school but forgot the supplies... :banghead:

Premium gives you early access to all the expansions *and* ownership of them.

    Hello, guys!
Im about to buy this laptop, but have a very specific question!
I'd like to hook up the little beast to 2560/1440 external monitor through onboard HDMI port. The korean monitor I use has only Dual DVI interface. Anyone got similar experience? Do I need some tricky cables/adapters or something?
    Thanks in advance!

Though I'm also thinking about buying this one, I'd like to know from Rocking_Zombie [and any and all that have a 4702HQ ] weather / how you're liking your laptop.

Namely... are your tempuratures good, with undervolting only, under pretty much all circumstances? And rough guesstimate on B-life, given Optimus with 4702HQ. I really want this laptop, but the heat and noise are killing it for me. Also, and Moreover it seems like battery performance would be much better with the 4702HQ (from a long term ownership perspective).
Oh, and one more thing... Do you find 13.3 too small.. to happily game, / do productive work? (Run 'VMs, Auto-cad, crunch numbers, just heavy usage of that type.) I guess this one will/is tied into the throttling. : )
    Please share!

And... I hate to ask... but I really need to: how is fan noise.. To be honest, the only way I could / can consider the machine is to use the 4702q

I believe a 4702 { undervolted} would make a HUGE difference ( as a reference to noise). I would thermal paste immediately once the laptop was obtained.

    These are all my concerns.

I'm between this and p15k - p34g or getting something cheap and refurbished, (Toshiba A7200) just to share where I'm at.

I just don't want (in my opinion - for myself) to make any questionable sacrifices for this sort of money. I want to level with (sic) ya. ; ) Pretty please share!

    = D

To add one soft-point, I'm willing to live with the build quality (for years if that be alright), likely early 2016 / late 2015 if the performance is (I hate to use this word) tolerable for that long. I'm not trying to single this one out. ; )

For 1170$ including 16gb / 4702 processor, I think it might be worth it. Just looking for some (really poignant) advice.
    Thanks to all.

Just in case anbodie's wondering, that 1170 cash includes also a 7200 rpm 1tb hard drive.

Black Friday's coming around and we can purchase our raid 128 / 256gb hard drives then. Assuming no throttling / noise issues / adversely general purpose (heavy usage and not) screen aversions are warranted (due to the size / ambiguous color ratings) skylake/ - maybe- mont will have nothing on this laptop / computer. Notwithstanding the succubal temptation to upgrade to a mobile 6 core (and 4k + screen improvements). This machine could have you set.

This is not cheap, but I'm comically and mildly intrigued that something like this could last me (quite well actually H-ware spec wise) so long.

Reason for upgrading: Because I'm Drafting - doing relatively instensive work - (photoshop, VM's, and the like) and coming from an i5 430m and 4GB this is just not enough for me anymore.

And one more thing. I just keep coming back ;-q
Does anyone know if we can / what kind of pinout Mac Book Pro Retina 13.3 inch uses? The monitor replacement is 30 pin/s connection. Possibly in the future, if the scalars allow it, we could put a nicer display in the W230ST ... or even.. (NOW)

We would blow everybody else's pannel out of the water.. And most importantly have a much more enjoyable HD maxed League of Legends to play =;D

    Greetings folks,

I read through the vast majority of this thread but I was unable to recall anything that would be relevant to my situation. I was hoping someone might be able to assist.

I currently own a W230ST, South Korean version by the company "Hansung".
The specs are vanilla W230ST with the exception of 2x Samsung MZMpc128HBF-000MV (128GB)
The BIOS options are quite limited, and I have tried to install Windows 7 in IDE, SATA and RAID mode. While the initial loading off the USB is fine, the moment I try and install Windows 7, it asks for drivers. I am able to see the 2 SSDs in Diskpart and 'clean'ed them, to no avail.

I have disabled and enabled all the settings (except UEFI, which has remained disabled this entire time) and continued to have no joy.

Would anyone know how to go about approaching this situation?

In advance, thank you very much!

Well provide it with a driver =)
I thought you wouldn't need any for SATA (or ... IDE, but I wonder what's that option for ?) though.
Dunno which one to use, but I assume another member will have had the same situation..

I would love to, except I am not quite sure which driver to provide it with. Based on the comparisons I made with the Hansung website and the ones found in this link, all the drivers are exactly the same so the only one I could possibly provide it with is the chipset. I've downloaded both and will report back.

Just to follow up, turns out that I just needed to utilize the USB 2.0 slot instead of the USB 3.0. No driver installations were necessary.

I've thus far installed all the drivers (including official intel and nvidia) and have encountered no problems!
SSD at 54 and 46C respectively
    Processor at 53C
    Graphics card at 46C

Light browsing, installation of various softwares. More reports to come soon...

Not gonna work, you need DisplayPort to run those korean ones properly. You need a monitor with HDMI 1.4a support, like my Asus PB278Q. If you wanna use your korean monitor for work purposes, you can buy a dock like displaylink, very expensive though.

    DisplayLink Store :: Docks

I am happy with the 4702mq temps, even with Crysis 3 I didn't get any crazy (85+) temps. The battery life is good too. However, keep in mind that I haven't used the other processors, so can't really do a comparison. People here seems to believe that a properly undervolted 4700mq can perform as well as 4702mq. So your call.

I use an external monitor, can't work on a 13.3 inch TBH. For gaming its fine. Depending on where I am, I also game on the external monitor sometimes. My work involves a lot of onsite stuff, so I needed something small, light yet powerful. Nothing like this machine exists in the market yet, except the Razer 14, which has a crappy screen (I checked it out physically). The Gigabytes are just coming out, and I needed a machine last month. Lets see how those Gigabytes hold up against this beast :D.

Not gonna happen..Retina display = eDP. w230st = LVDS. Unless we have dual LVDS ports (haven't looked at the manuals that deeply), then something like this "might" work.

LVDS / RGB to DP / eDP Converters - STMicroelectronics

EDIT: Interesting, I just looked up the screen model (Chimei N133HSE-EA1) and looks like the w230st display is indeed eDP. Anyone who has taken the screen off, any insights?

Hey guys! I've been reading most of the pages here in this thread (took me quite a bit of time :p) and I'm really planning on getting this laptop.
I need a bit of help though. Where i live the laptop isnt for sale and i need to buy it abroad.
Thing is, i heard many comments here saying that they needed to replace their laptop because of several issues, especially with the screen (dents, dead pixels etc.).
Do you think im taking too big of a risk? i wont have a chance to send it back overseas to get a replacement, so what i get is what i get.
Any suggestions and recommendations? maybe I'm misunderstanding and the flaws are just rare and bad luck, but i read quite a few of them here so its kinda scary.

    thanks a lot!

4702MQ here. BF4 works pretty well. Playing on a 1680x1050 external screen, so keep in mind it will be slightly worse on full HD.
Ultra stays around 25~30fps, wouldnt play on it. High is pretty decent though. It doesn't matter that much in Bf4 anyway; IMO the last 3Quality steps cause next to any difference in GFX.

My temps reached 90°C, but that was at peak action.

Ive got one of the Kensington Docking Station with Dual DVI/HDMI/VGA Video (sd3500v) and its awful. I just use it as a USB 3 hub now, such a waste of money. The Video on it is useless very slow refresh even with nothing running and its on the latest drivers.

I do have a post office but shipping with UPS is like 300$. is there a cheaper way you know about? I'm kinda clueless in those matters.

And still the question remains - how risky is it to get this model without the ability to send it back.. I would like a recommendation in this matter

I don't know where you live, but usually the cheapest way is the national post service, UPS are often very expensive.
I think only the resellers will know the return rate of that model, ask a few or maybe some of them will chime in right here.

Hey guys, to all those who installed the latest nvidia drivers for BF4, have you noticed any drop in battery life, i swear since i installed the drivers my battery has gone from giving me 3 hrs to just over 2 hrs...Very strange, also since the new drivers my fan stays on the lowest setting 80% of the time, its either the drivers or sumthing else has cocked up

Hey guys. I'm hoping that one of you can help me with my bluetooth issue. I have the Intel AC 7260 Wifi/Bluetooth module and have never managed to get the bluetooth working on it. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate x64. When I was on 16.1.3 driver, the bluetooth would show up in the Device Manager as Generic Bluetooth and Microsoft Emulated. I could pair with bluebooth devices, but that was about it. All the devices I paired with it were greyed out in Devices & Printers. I updated the drivers to 16.1.5 and now the bluetooth module is now only displaying Generic Bluetooth with a yellow exclamation mark. Properties shows and error code 43.

Anyone that could assist me would be much appreciated as I'm currently having to use a bluetooth dongle to connect to Razer Orochi. Thanks.

So, two things to report back on (4800MQ):

    1. I repasted about 12-14 days ago, and I'm getting the same temps as when it came new. 65C degrees at idle, average of 92C when playing any game made within the past 5 years. I've measured at idle/word processing, doing stress tests, on a laptop cooler off/on setting, etc., and consistently getting the same temps.

    2. I also can't seem to underclock. It'll restart after about an hour if I do -25/-35/-45mV, and crash immediately at any number beyond that. I've also tried to just limit the multiplier on #3 and #4 clocks to 29 or so, and it'll crash after an hour as well.

Guess I'm just gonna have to leave with this.

Dude, please look into this.. If we can turn THIS:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/att...rs-lounge-kopie-von-img_20131004_151831_1.jpg

into something fashionable (MAC PRO RETINA 220dpi IPS DIsplay), with the 4702q, I'm going with this. this could last me for a long time, and with the Macbook display, I wouldn't mind the size. Judging by the pictures, It would make the macbook--oops, I meant Clevo, feel much more Svelt as well.

    Let's look into this.
    (pardon the visual hyperbole)

Now how's the noise? Have you 4702hq'ers repasted your componets?

GTX 765 would be enough more than long term for my needs - which would go something like (league of legends on 2560 x 1440 MAC IPS Display).

I think if this is possible we can / could really come over a lot of (other than the noise, which I'm questioning your opinions on now) the pitfalls of this laptop. AND THE PRICE WOULD BE RIGHT!Q

4702'ers, sound off with your opinions on noise / specs! Have you repasted yet?! Has anyone made a VDO stress testing and fan noise yet? Let's put MAC DIsplays in this laptop! [AND THEN IT's completely troll!] I / ME WANTS HIGH QUALITY IPS! I don't think any special hardware is needed for 2560 x 1440! Only at - beyond that - higher resolutions do/would we need special motherboard hardware / adapters.
The modular nature and easy to maintain nature of this laptop might go a LONG way for it!
... Oh, did I mention it's cheap to?? (Imo, with the IPS display). All said and done we could have 765m 1tb hdd 4702q No, I'm quite sure undervolting / clocking to hit the specs of 37w with 4700 is much more elusive. If 4702 is pasted well / undervolted / perhaps underclocked, even just a little bit, that will be far out of the reach of 4700q in terms of tempurature --noise performance, which makes this laptop all the more novel.

It's a lot of power in a 13.3 chassis and would be quite useable with 13.3 macbook pro retina display [I really think so)

Guys, we can DEW IT!?!!!? ADDS TO THE CHARISMATIC NATURE OF THIS LAPTOP! How's the sound?! :D Z Could / can somebody make a video?!
    Undervolt / 4702q just might be enough! (Noise - wise) + Mac 2560 x 1600 IPS Display!

This is conjugation of price, great / (cheap) modular hardware status, makes this a (somewhat fascinating) certain intruiging proposition.

We are talking about 1170 (base) -1370$ for all of that though that depends on where you source the mac ips display). Which I forgot to mention has better color/s reproduction than the ATIV Book 9 + and other harem of 3200 x 1800 displays. I've seen the new 13.3 mac /- retina display for 95$ resale price and I know where I can get it. ;;;;DDD

16gb ram Just right for future proofing over the life of this laptop autoCAD, VM design, linux, all heavy computer use scenarios.
1tb 7200rpm hard drive (additional storage)
dual M Sata III 256gb hard drives in Raid 0 1) (this competes with the future 14nm Skylake-platform SATA Express) 2)(should go on one heck of a sale on the coming Black Friday)
I7 4702 undervolted, perhaps even clocked if this saves on noise / battery life (again, very modular) -including optimus- Broadwell cpu's will fit too)
That is also with the wireless Intel 7260HMW card too. (844M/bps signal 801.ac)!

Mac IPS Virtually amaz-terrific display in this form factor. Couldn't ask for much more and with the [MBPr] 13.3 employed display like this one I think a lot more people could get used to the size. The display will be beautiful, and totally make up for the build quality. And the display will last us - we could have something nice for a while.
    Cute, portable, and novel,

Good note-taker in class as well. Backlit keyboard, it might have the goodies to commendably/recognizeably/commensurately last us awhile. That is, if the MAC IPS will fit . . . . . And the noise levels can be kept down (which I hope in the proper configuration they can).

W230ST will only make noise when gaming (which everything does). I don't think League of Legends will push it over the mark and into oblivion (concerning the noise). and even if it does, (this is the fickle and gray area I'm worried about, which is noise) we could use earbuds.

    1) LI-Ion battery also lasts longer than Li-Polymer. 2) And is cheaper, too. To boot. I.e. the one battery replacement we'll likely all need in time will be cheap, especially in a couple years time.
And with 10w less draw (minimum) that effectively makes our 62.2 WH battery last like a 75.62 Whr battery. A notable and commendable difference in a laptop this versatile and small.
Seriously: think about it (fellow) buyers: this display could be amazing for years to come if we can put / get this in there.

I think this is very functional.

If someone would (4702 users) kindly make a good Video that would also let other-s potential buyers know if / how this plan is possible - it would perform. gtx 765m is a good match with resolution of 2560 x 1440 for good - light games too, which is great.

I think we could be breathing a lot of new life into the W230ST (model). / Thread. And all for a very cheap... i.e. a reasonable: price too; this is with such a slew of specifications. (In my head, I was thinking harem of specifications. : ) )

We can do this, maybe~ provided the 2560 x 1440 (honestly much higher quality) display will work. Not ragging on anything, but after running on a catleap 2560 x 1440 with 98% AdobeRGB color specification, I can tell you it is the most immeasurable enoyjoyable thing to be using on a computer / within a laptop if you can have it.

Seriously, 61-64% vs 95 or 96% for those who haven't yet experienced a difference like this for the IPS from MAC is also a commendable and truly computer changing experience.

To elaborate I was using a 98/99% Catleap panel but even at 95 / 96% it would be commensurately gorgeous and commendable enjoyment could virtually extricate or completely counterbalance any of the W230ST shortfalls, which basically are that it's not made out of aluminium). (not to mention retina 13.3 inch) : ). Will be great.
Rocking_Zombie if not others, it would be nice if you could help out, and in the process help curious others understand more about this laptop. And if not now, then when? Carpe dium!
I will go ahead and see if I will do it if someone could make a video for me. [ I think We still need a stress testing video for the w230ST anyway, however what I'm specifically asking for is a good 4702 one] That way 4700 owners could also cross reference and see if they can get theirs to match.

[Tbh really doubt this, as I do think the 4702 is high quality silicon that can with undervolting / and slight underclocking (maybe, even) use much, much less electricity / heat production than the 4700 can muster. 4702 is basically an advantage / update to 14nm, as its model alone is a 21% power reduction which / who's gains can't be caught once we've undervolted it even further and perhaps even (if the user desires) underclocked it by 100-200 megahertz.

Someone please read my post and update me/the community on this. (video W230ST video), I think it's within putting distance: not to sound too adversely dorky but: I think we can do it. And I think it would be glorious (for a couple- for even four full years for some people, depending on how much trouble 10 / 7 / 5nm give at intel, though the market may be totally changed by then). Someone toss up a video or two (/people, two video would be better - ever-even more helpful)

Haha don't expect any display mod within a year, modding will only start when people are bored with this already awesome machine. The display is brilliant, no need to go higher res as of now.

Whoever-s makes the video should get some rep
    Let's have fun with it . !
Or see if we can. ; )
    Rockin_Zombie

b-b-b-but it would be cheapp.. Like 105-200$ for the display. ;' ) TOTALLY worth the upgrade.

The difference is this: 70% more resolution, but here's the main kicker, prolific color. equal refresh rates / response times.. This chimei display is only 444:1 -- 744:1 depending on the model and while Srgb color is good, it's really, really terrible R (Adobe, which is the actual standard that matters)GB not good, with 61-64% color [range]. Do you not think a MAC IPS Display in this would be awesome?! Not to mention what I'm proposing would make a better laptop than any other manufacturer can offer, in a smaller form - size. What if it can work!? Longevity of this/my-your machine would be brilliant.

I think it can be done.

Now I just need a video to help me do it.. to / understand. what 4702 outputs with stress temps and fan noise. This could be a very novel machine . And virtually any parsimonious old woman or hard up student (or parent) could afford, it for a multi-function university-school computer / anything.

Novel ^2 (squared!) You are not interested in this?!?! It would be half the price of any other offering ~ With virtually future-proof specs, Notwithstanding depends on how we can (tolerable per individual) manage the noise - tempuratures.

    Hi Rockin_Zombie

    Thanks for reposting for me.
Please re-read my posts as I've thoroughly edited / redacted them.

This brick could be pseudo troll for quite a while. ; ) I think typing / using a 13.3 MacbookPro retina screen could make the form factor much more enjoyable.

Would still be good for programmers since 2560x1600 16:10 too. Could be anyway. I wonder if we could put one in. That's over 4 megapixels ( twice 1080p) in a glorious form factor / laptop. I think we could look into it. 16:10 too / as well.

There are errors all over the place, but to be honest (got up at 3 this morning) you get the idea.

I am pretty happy with my temps, its been over 30c outside all day and I just maxed out BF4 in 1080p. This is on the 4900, underclocked with -80 mV and two cores running at x32:

Do you have something like this?
P.S. Wireless drivers aren't bluetooth drivers
    screenshot.05-10-2013 21.39.53.png
    You might want to try:
    1. Uninstall the bluetooth module from Device Manager
    2. Install bluetooth drivers. Try the clevo ones if you can't find them

Thanks for your input. However, I've tried that. I appreciate your screenshot, but I can't for the love of god get it to display Intel(R) Wireless Bluetooth(R) 4.0 + HS Adapter. It just keeps popping up with Generic Bluetooth Adapter. If I try to rename bth.inf in %windir%\inf and scan for a hardware change, it will come up as an Unknown Device and if I force the Clevo drivers it will error with a code 28.

This is all I'm getting now:

When I install the ones from the Sager site (03_BT_INTEL.exe)? Nothing.

    1. Uninstall Intell Pro Wireless for Bluetooth Software
    2. Uninstall Generic Bluetooth Adapter
    3. Restart machine
    4. Reinstall driver software above
    5. Scan for hardware changes
    6. Generic Bluetooth Adapter appears again
    7. Rename %windir%\inf\bth.inf to bth.bak to prevent Generic Bluetooth Adapter being detected
    8. Scan for hardware changes and Unknown Device appears

This is driving me bonkers. I've even reseated theWifi/Bluetooth module.

    This is useless.

That's the problem. It should open a window installing the drivers, re-download it.

    hey team, having read almost all of this thread I'm at wits end;

I recently received the FragLabs/Horize W230ST everything looks fine out of the box and I opted to not have windows installed on the device. I should mention that no drivers were provided with the device, no usb/cd/URLs to download drivers etc. Pretty disappointed at this, no mention of drivers on the fraglabs or horize websites, maybe this is assumed knowlege for buying OEM laptops (first time for me).

    I have installed both Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 with the same effects;

I can install the system fine from USB, get to windows and start installing the drivers from the clevo website above. However, when I install the chipset drivers and then reboot (and the nvidia drivers from the clevo site were installed and working) system will bluecreen with an error code Bug Check 0x113: VIDEO_DXGKRNL_FATAL_ERROR ( Bug Check 0x113: VIDEO_DXGKRNL_FATAL_ERROR (Windows Debuggers)). After rebooting, clicking on the nvidia control panel says "No NVIDIA hardware was found on your system". The Nvida card cannot be found in GPU-Z, and if I look in device manager and select "Show hidden devices" the NVidia card is there, but greyed out with error code 45 (The device is currently disconnected from the system).

The way to resolve this is to reinstall windows. No amount of driver uninstalling or reinstalling will bring it (the nvidia) back.

Has anyone seen anything like this before? Or does it sound like defective hardware...

edit: do I even need to install the chipset drivers?

You should always install chipset drivers first, and reboot before proceeding with the rest.
Try this, while I dunno if it's related.
I'd also install MEI and storage drivers (and reboot) before going through intel (1st) then nVidia.

^ Have tried it. Tried fresh install > chipset >reboot > Intel drivers > reboot > can't detect nvidia...

When you download the BT Driver from the Clevo Website, look inside the package (640 somewhat MB big), there is a forlder called "7260series". Inside there you find a new Driver Version, which is even newer than the one on Intels Website.
    Maybe it's worth a shot.

Schenker have released the 1.05 bios and a modified ec update which improves the fan tables.

I've installed it so we'll see if there is any difference.

Is it me or is the bios time for this machine quite long. The bios time from a cold start is 6.2~6.3s while for the asus n550jv, it just takes 2.8s.

I also use it now. Now the fan tends to spin far more often at low speed in favor of spinning less often at high speed. Also temps improved in general. I like it so far.

I also noticed that. It takes about 10 seconds before the screen will even turn on. It was the same with the W110ER. My girlfriends crappy PB with a Momentus XT + i5 3210 boots up way faster than my W230 with an 840Pro and i7 4702.

I have a very minor issue:

I noticed that when i right click on the desktop, it takes about 1 full second before the menu pops up. I was just wondering if anyone else had this issue? Maybe it has something to do with Intel + Nvidia CP loading up in the menu?

Its not really an issue but every other computer i have the menu opens up instantly.

    Thnx
