So I finally decided to game on battery and I played skyrim for an hour and 3 minutes before it gave me the battery warning. Is this considered descent? If I force it to run on the hd4600 I should get better battery right? The hd4600 is supposed to be equivalent tons gt650m card or so I've read before. I will try next time.

Yes, I saw that guide, but inside the synaptic properties, I can't find any setting for edge swipes, just a bunch of other settings, so I'm asking specifically for this device.

    Download the latest Synaptics Drivers:
    Drivers | Synaptics

Then you can disable them through mouse settings. Worked for me too. They are annoying, aren't they? :)

    Nope it's nowhere close.
But you can underclock and undervolt both your CPU and GPU! It helps :D

Pretty sure you're thinking of the Intel Iris 5200; the HD4600 is a pretty low power integrated card. Slightly better than the HD4000

i second this. it is around the 6630m/7670m. but even then i then i beleive it cant truly match that in raw perfromance depending on game. like i doubt it could match bf3 fps despite the same kind of scores the 4600 gets in synthetic benchmarks

Has anybody played around with cache voltage much? My 4800 is only completely stable down to -65mV dynamic CPU voltage, so I was hoping to avoid a bit of heat by reducing the cache voltage as well. Should I start around -65 as well, or is it even worth my time playing with it?

I know its gotta be in here somewhere but over 200 pages to go over is quite a bit. Is there a quick quide to what settings I should undervolt? I just found that CPU is good at -100mv. Also how do I get xty to apply these settings at boot? Sorry I'm new to xtu and undervolting

You kinda have to be careful, when you undervolt the cache it tends to get a little finicky at higher GHz, so while it may be stable under Prime95, at others it may not (!)
At least for my 4700MQ, I would establish a stable undervolt of the cache voltage offset to be -79mV at most, with a -79mV on the CPU voltage offset and a +4mV on the iGPU voltage offset, running on 36/35/34/34
I do find that undervolting cache and cpu together is somehow more effective than undervolting the cores alone; undervolting the cores to -100mV gives an unstable undervolt that easily crashes and has lower boost clocks on Prime95 and XTU's stress test than on even the stable undervolt of -72mV (let alone -79mV) on both. I do find that having equal values for both undervolts helps me to achieve more stable undervolts than by undervolting the core only (at similar voltages), though.
Hence I don't touch the cache frequency.
An undervolt of -79mV on both CPU and cache allows me to get 418 points higher on 3dmark11 physics scores, in a hot and somewhat poorly ventilated environment, though.

It actually applies for you at boot, as long as your computer doesn't crash beforehand, though.
Settings to change are: Dynamic CPU Voltage Offset, Processor Cache Voltage Offset, Multipliers (if you want), Processor Cache Ratio (not recommended), Processor Graphics Voltage Offset.
You might want to save a profile by clicking the save button on the right side of the window after you have modified your settings (in case)
Are you sure your CPU's stable at -100mV?
    Mine clearly isn't on Prime95.
Do download Prime95 and test your system over a few hours with both it and the XTU stress test to see if it's stable, or not

Does anyone have problem with graphic driver on Windows 8.1 RTM ? I did a clean install of Win 8.1 yesterday and the latest Intel + Nvidia driver. However when I tried on Dota 2, the system gave me a message type "Graphic Memory not enough, close the program". I'm pretty sure it was not a hardware problem as I had the same issue on my old P150EM with new generation Intel driver, so I decided to reinstall the driver.

There I met another annoying issue while doing the uninstallation. Each time I uninstall a driver (Intel or NVIDIA), Windows will automatically reinstall the driver (with older version) out of nowhere, which caused me unable to do a fresh install. Even though I tried to disable Windows auto update, it would do that as if it has in stock these drivers somewhere.

These are the 2 most stand out issues, I also got problems with Wifi and other drivers as well. Does anyone here have Win 8.1 RTM and these problems? Or any suggestion for me please?

My issue I had with 8.1 was my nvidia card dissapeared after I tried updating my drivers. I also couldnt find a driver for the airplane mode. My suggestion for you is to use a driver cleaner and disconnect your pc from the internet when updating drivers.

Thanks. In my case it seems like it doesn't help (or hurt) stability at all, but when I dropped the cache to -65mV (same as my stable core undervolt) the temp dropped by 5 degrees under load. I'll take it!

Just got my W230ST and.... the W8 Driver disk HIDEvolution sent is a little scratched and wont read.....

    ughh....

does anyone know what order to install the drivers from the website? or have a copy of the Windows 8 driver disk i can download?

i can see some lists of drivers in this thread but they all seem to be for windows 7.

id like to start installing drivers ASAP :p

    -first impression:
--its was smaller then i expected / thinner
    --keyboard is fantastic
--running super fast just got w8 installed
--the light bleed on the screen during boot is veryyyy.... disappointing considering how good everything else is including the screen "when its not showing black".

For your drivers, go to this website CLEVO - Download
and put W230ST under the model option, and put all under the driver type option

    I have a few questions:

I undervolted my w230st with xtu a month or so ago to -100mV but when I checked xtu again just now the dynamic voltage offset now says 0 mV. Does this mean the values have reverted?

And my clevo has troubles connecting to ethernet, whenever I plug in my cord my clevo says "identifying" or "limited" for the network connection and when I click on troublshoot for windows 8 it says that ethernet's ip address is not valid? I know it's not a problem with my cord or socket because I tried it with my other computer and it worked perfectly.

If your windows crashed cuz of undervolting, XTU will automatically revert, its a safety net. Not sure about the other problem

The only issue I'm having with windows 8.1 is airplane mode doesn't work (does nothing).
    Other than that, it's flawless.

Make sure you use latest XTU build, prior ones reset itself on shutdown.

That doesn't sound so good. Ordered mine and planned installing my Win 8.1. Dreamspark purchase. I tested the beta and liked much more than 8.0. But there are some days left before my laptop will arrive, so maybe some driver changes are done. And 8.1. is coming out officially in october for the rest of humanity either.

Here's some other fun info using the i7-4900MQ. I undervolted to -67 mVA and then I ran Prime95 with Large FTT, at the same time I ran Graphics Stress Test in Intel XTU (onboard graphics) and I ran a burn-in test with FurMark. This was to maximize the heat in the laptop.

    Here's a screenshot:

Has anyone attempted to use a 2560x1440 monitor over the HDMI? If so any tips would be greatly appreciated I've been looking around online, but haven't found anything that sounds like it would work.

Look at this link 2560x1440 or 2560x1600 via HDMI - NotebookCheck.net Tech
It's not the w230st, but it's the same interface so I suppose it's also applicable.
    I don't have a 2560p monitor to test, though.

Mine works, I've the ASUS PB278Q. No tweak necessary, comes up default as 1440p. I even game on it (of course turning the res down to 1080p while gaming lol). This entirely depends on the monitor model though, w230st has HDMI1.4a, so no problem there. But some monitor manufacturers (Dell U2713HM, U2711, the korean monitors etc.) don't support 1440p over HDMI. I can understand if the korean monitors don't support it, but why Dell won't update their model/firmware is beyond me. There are some workarounds to use even the Dell monitors at 1440p over HDMI, but I'd of course test if it works before spending such hefty amount. On the other hand, if you can snag a good deal on the PB278Q, smooth sail from there on! :D

Yeah it's annoying that HMDI has the different versions and it's not always immediately obvious. Like R_Z says check the display HDMI version as the notebook does support 1.4a.

Yes. I am doing that. You just need to make sure that the monitor supports HDMI 1.4 or greater. For instance the Dell Ultrasharp 27" Does Not support HDMI 1.4 so it will not work on that monitor.

I have the Asus PB278Q ( https://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=21516 ) and this supports HDMI 1.4 and since W230ST has HDMI 1.4 it works, this is the setup that I am using anyways.

By the way, in regards of temperatures. I noticed that after playing Dirt Showdown and Dirt 3 for about 1 hour the temperatures peaked at 96 degrees, might have to do with the fact that I set the fans to act in Passive mode and not Active mode.

I don't even have a HDD and also have the fan noise. Funny enough this only occurs, while the fan is not spinning. So I suppose with my EC the PWM controller doesn't appy enough voltage for the fan to start spinning. Hope this is going to be resolved in antoher EC/BIOS.

What's going on? I thought the Chi Mei was just kickass?!

Is anyone else having problems with the USB3 ports? They work fine with USB2 devices but USB3 devices are randomly disconnecting and reconnecting whether connected to my USB3 hub or directly to any of the USB3 port. I have tried both versions of the "Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver" found on the Sager website and I've also experimented with shorter cables but no luck :(

I seem to remember that running prime95 while running graphics stuff wouldn't peg out my heat completely unless I left one core or thread free on the CPU side. There wouldn't be enough CPU cycles available to full push stuff to your GPU.

Plus you don't maximize the heat running your cpu @2.8Ghz and 2.4Ghz for cache.
Try another benchmark which won't throttle the cpu.

Hi everyone! I am a new owner of a Sager NP7330 from XoticPC and have spent the last several days setting up the laptop. I've scoured this thread and have seen some talk about a light "bruise" on some of the LCDs. I've noticed that I have this small issue. It's not really noticeable except on a lit black screen. It's directly in the center and looks like a soft light spot. Is this considered normal? Or is it a defect that I should look at getting repaired? Beyond this issue, everything has been so far so good.

    Thanks for any information!

Hey, can anyone tell me something about the BIOS/EC 05? Is it worth upgrading from stock? I am asking, because mysn.de doesn't provide an update yet, plus I don't have the original file in order to revert back, if I should be unhappy.

What is the "refresh rate" of this laptop's screen? Like 60 Hz, 75 Hz, 120 Hz......what is the refresh rate? Since people get more than 60 fps in games, I suppose it means it must be greater than 60 Hz.....so is it 75....120...?

Also, would this laptop's graphics work with a monitor that supports greater than 120 Hz for gaming? I was looking at a monitor like the Asus VG248QE that has 144 Hz Refresh Rate and 1 ms Response Time but it says that to get the 144 Hz output, DisplayPort is required. I suppose that means this laptop's graphics output would not produce the 144 Hz on that monitor since there is no DisplayPort?

Press Fn + Powerbutton, when the unit is shutdown. That activates the first USB Port on the right (the 900mA one). You also get an indication light.

fps have nothing to do with refresh rate, you can have 400fps on a 60hz or a 120hz screen, or 10 fps on a 144hz screen, doesn't matter.
This one should be 60hz but I didn't check, dunno the maximum supported rate via hdmi, but I assume you can find that easily on the hdmi's specs !

My mSATA drive (not OS drive) randomly disconnects, I have no idea why it just unmounts itself and I have to reboot to get it back.

Anyone know if this could be a crappy driver or is there something wrong with the sata controller?
