You can disable HDD spin down from advanced power settings. WD black is probably your best choice.

You are working on windows or Linux? In newest kernel there is a dm-cache integrated. You can use ssd of size "<typical write size>" as a cache for hdd device in spare msata slot. Then write will be faster and if you wipe it and start again then this will be much faster
In any case: file operations like copying ("backing it up" ?? ) are much faster on ssd. -
Got my Brenthaven ProStyle sleeve today. Like an idiot, I posted about it in HTW's thread, lol (my bad). Linky for anyone who's shopping for sleeves: http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...p7330-clevo-w230st-review-44.html#post9341446

thanks HTwing and everyone, i've decided to stay with 4700mq in the end and didn't get 4702mq. Temps and games run fine now and i'm more and more satisfied with this little beast. Few small issues i have is that keyboard tends to get warm when on flat surface and browsing its a little uncomfortable but oh well nothing is perfect.
Question: How do I calculate the power that its used by ac adapter ? I would like to find perfect settings for overclocking GPU , undervolting CPU and throttlestop CPU. What I have noticed that if I overclock GPU and undervolt CPU to -90 which used to work that my system crashes (reboot) therefore I have to use -50 underclock for now. The ac is 120w and from XTU I can see that CPU uses around 37w (undervolted and downclocked) but cant seem to find any W meter for GPU and how much it uses as well as ram and all the other things. Any suggestions ? Best regards to you all u ve been awesome :] -

I remember I bought my W110ER quite late. (I got it June 1st 2012) And it took nVidia AGES to bring an official driver for the GT650. I can't remember when, but it was about 4 months after I bought it. Until then some games had flaws and the framerate wasn't as good as it got with official drivers.
Let's hope this won't happen again with the 700 Series also being Kepler cards. -
Is there any news of games that don't work / crash / perform abnormally poorly with the Clevo-provided GeForce drivers (off the DVD)? I understand that a lot of people like to keep up on bleeding edge GPU drivers, and that often times if you get a brand-new game and there are issues, new drivers will fix it, but so far nothing has had problems, and I don't want to make half my games *less* stable on the off chance that the updated drivers will fix an issue on one new game I don't even own.
-
I agree. I just installed the latest nVidia Beta and the leaked Intel though and will do some testing to see if there's any issues.
-
My machine is going to arrive tomorrow. Which driver for the nvidia would you recommend?

I've noticed that after updating Intel XTU to the latest version laptop keep XTU profiles (undervolting etc.) even after sleep mode. Anyone confirmed ?
-
-
that's great news if the settings don't reset after sleep, i'll try the last XTU !!!
-
Anyone still following this thread that picked up a laptop from Mythlogic able to comment on the difference between Mythlogic Bios and Sager one? I know I saw some posts much earlier on, but either I missed the followup or it was never posted.
Things like the fan profile being fixed and clocking options?
Thankies -
YAY XTU works even after sleep ! Awesome ! Now we can undervolt and put whatever multipliers we want forever. No need of 99% cpu usage anymore
-
Few other things that kicked loose with the laptop while I'm in hospital -- bluetooth tethering with windows 8 doesn't seem to work out of the box. It was obtuse enough to get it working with windows 7, but it did just work eventually.
What was the trick for maintaining the powered usb while the laptop is off? Tried using it as a glorified power brick for my phone and found that it had to be in sleep mode (where it kept *every* usb port powered.)
And completely irrelevant to everyone else on this forum, but mobile data is surprisingly useful in Australia compared to the last time I tried. But I'm going to run over my quota in a matter of minutes, most probably. -

Would like to know this as well. Just placed order yesterday but is never too late to start obsessing over new toy. Hehehe

Hey guys, quick question. I really love the look of the w230st, and I'm probably going to be putting in my order at Xotic later today. *But* I have one concern: the battery.
I'm perfectly fine with waiting for a modified bios to fix the downclocking issue, but I was wondering about the expected benifit of such a change. How much of an increase in light-load (say, typing a document or reading an ebook) battery are we likely to see from such a fix?
Do you think the battery life could approach that of the msi ge40? The parts certainly seem similar enough (same cpu, one step weaker gpu, about the same battery size). If it could get even 2/3rds of the ge40's light use battery, I would be extatic. Is that be a reasonable hope for the Prema bios when it eventually does come out? -

I also ordered mythlogic, sent the payment Monday. They're probably getting a lot of orders, think its gonna take a while. Ah the waiting game..

If you have any concern about your status, you can always email them or use their "one smart nerd" chat option. I recommend the chat option since they can help you in no time. -

Truly set it and forget it! -
I've noticed that the CPU and memory usage indicators are now broken in xtu and the new CPU throttling indicator is completely useless.
But maintaining clocks following suspend to ram is a bigger deal anyway. -
-
My GPU reached 76C when playing CS:GO. Isn't that a bit high?

Acutally opposite. If your CPU gets to the mid 70's then you'll want to start looking into whats causing that.
-
I think on mine, typically the GPU stays around high 60s to low 70s Celsius, whereas the CPU is what gets the most hot, usually around 80s. Is that ok?
-
Since Clevo usually only kicks the fan in (mildly) from late 60's, almost any kind of load can cause their CPU's to reach 70+, you should know that as a reseller. -
lol cpu is always hotter than gpu in 99% of reviews i've read. Laptops with 45-47W quads on board that can keep cpu into the 70's (without tweaks) can be count on one hand. Intel quads are power hogs on turbo.

My GPU is in upper 60's / low 70's
If you look at my review, GPU was in the 60's 90% of the benchmarks: http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...s-sager-np7330-clevo-w230st-review.html#temps
CPU on the other hand at stock clocks and voltage is in upper 80's to 90's even. But with XTU and now that settings aren't reset, it's easy to get temps manageable.
I'd say if your GPU is running in the upper 70's to 80's then to repaste and go from there. -
I've encountered a strange problem with my temps. I've reapplied my thermal paste several times and noticed that while temperatures dropped nicely initially, they returned to very high levels again after a few days. I also noted that while the exhaust fan was running at 100%, the exhaust air was actually quite cool.
When I remove the heat sinks it looks like all of the past has been pushed off both the CPU and GPU dies and now the bare die is contacting the heatsink. I'm assuming that when the copper heat sinks expand with the screws tightened very tightly, they push the paste off the dye.
I noticed this last night and reapplied new paste for the 3rd time. This time I made sure to not over tighten the screws on either heat sink. My temps are great now, but I'm curious what will happen after a few days.
Anybody else noticed anything like this? If you notice temperatures increasing over time or your exhaust fan isn't exhausting hot air it may be something to check. -
I have to ask, did you thoroughly clean off the old paste off the die and heatsink?
But the thinner the paste between heatsink and die the better because it means it's very close together and should get your best heat transfer. -
Hey folks can you help me out please? I got my W230ST today and I really love it.
One thing is interesting though. I can't definitely identify my screen. HWINFO tells me I have a HN133WU1-100, Manufacturer: BOE HF, ID: BOE05D8.
What is that? That's neither the Chi Mei nor the AUO, is it? What other program can I use to detect my screen? -
So after playing with this laptop for a few weeks, I'm still fairly happy with the system and can stand the heat issues, but man I am getting super annoyed with the Fan. Fans are supposed to get consistently louder as heat goes up...it isn't supposed to constantly burst and turn off. Since this is the first Sager/Clevo machine I've ever owned can any other owners of other Sager boxes tell me how often BIOS updates come out since that is probably the only way for this problem to be fixed?
I mean the laptop can't be brought into a work meeting or into a class for those who are students...it would be embarrassing and obnoxious to have this thing suddenly burst when doing anything mildly intensive. I've had it burst when only surfing around, no movie, videos, or music. -

Anybody received one from pcspecialist in the UK yet? -
From Schenker Notebooks. mysn.de
-
-HN133WU1-100 FOR ASUS -Laptop LCD Display-Shenzhen Arose Kingsales Technology Co.,LTD.
first google result on that model number.
It's chinese, manufacturer appears to be neither Chimei nor AUO. -
I found that too. But this seems like an automatic entry. There seems to be no brand with that name.
[EDIT] Nevermind.... Bejing Display Technologies.
It seems like a very good screen though. -

Also, Sager is working on an updated BIOS to supposedly correct/improve the fan profiles. -
That's disappointing, so the Prema bios won't noticably improve battery life under light use (minimum cpu/gpu speed scenarios)?
4 hours of battery life maximum isn't terribly encouraging. -
