How do you manually underclock the CPU? Might've missed that posting if there was one. Yeah idle temp for the CPU was 58-60C so I'm close to where you're at as well.

Yeah the chipset thing was odd. If I ever wipe the box again I'll try it out one more time to see if it happens a second time so there is a chance the blanking in/out problem was caused by something else.

Yeah not a fan of Win8; just bothers me too much even with mods.

Windows 8 isn't too different... its very fast and easy to use after a while, just requires learning the actual hotkeys for any Windows version to navigate quick.

    Aside from that....

Intel XTU should help with undervolting. You can follow my settings on previous page that lists the voltage settings.for both Processor and Integrated Graphics.

EDIT: A nifty thing about Win8 is... I can format without using a bootable drive. Has Refresh (formating without deleting anything; but wipes your registry so you have to reinstall the files anyway) and the actual Reset (formating without a bootable). So its much easier to deal with changing your starting settings.

Is Turbo Boost a BIOS setting? I read earlier in the thread but couldn't see any setting in the BIOS for it.

I'm undervolting at -70, full power and no throttling.

You can disable turbo boost by going to Power Options->Change Plan Settings->Advanced Power Options

From there, under the Processor Power Management, change the Maximum Processor State to 99% or less. This should effectively disable Turboboosting.

Undervolting will decrease your peak frequency. If you want higher speeds, you may have to lessen the undervolt or increase multipliers.

Some of those flaws are nitpicking.

The sound issue is real though and can only be supported by drivers and software (the SB Drivers actually bump the sound to be quite loud...).

Keyboard is actually quite good... stiff? Well tapping these keys dont require much force at all, not sure what they were going with this. They might as well have not been using machines with similar layout keys at all.

Battery life is a real issue as well.. my max being 4-4.5 Hours. Waiting on some improvements to BIOS for things to change sadly.

I got mine to about 5000 on the same test and settings. I had frames limited to 50, though, and I can't overclock much: 50MHz and 300MHz vRAM.

So after trials and tribulations last night I managed to get it removed. HTWingnut, Tried your putty idea and had no luck. What finally did it was a screw extractor bit for a drill. at first i thought it was too big but i figured what the hell. Drill on slow,in reverse and push down hard and out it came. Then came the search for replacement screws. I had a handful of dead laptops in the garage and started stripping them for screws. And a HP laptop had 3 screws right below the keyboard over the DVD drive bay. Exact match, except they are black

I took a photo so you could all laugh at me and then say "whew Glad i didn't do that".
Its a little dark but the bad one is on the left. Some lessons are learned the hard way. Its all assembled and I'm doing burn in as we speak

It's a decent review but the reviewer added few strong subjective points which he should have not had. The keyboard opinion was one and his general tone of negativeness.

Quite frankly though, I don't expect any good sound system at all from any kind of laptop, let that be DTR monster or thin & light sweetie. Expecting good sound system from laptops is... rather pointless in my experience. As long as it produces recognizable sound, lolz, works for me.

To get the better of the battery life, you are probably going to need to tweak Optimus. Some background programs tend to let dGPU kick in.

    3 more questions:

    1) Has anyone figured out how to make the default setting for the illuminated keyboard be set to "off" as opposed to the 1st lit setting every time it is powered on?
    2) What actually changes when you press Fn + Esc and change the settings at the top like quiet, entertainment, performance? I noticed that the first item on the 3rd row is just a mirror of the windows power saving under control panel so the top row got me a bit confused.
    3) Just trying to verify that the fan issue is happening to other people and not only to me. I don't even have to be playing a game. If there is any activity like installing a program or having Windows Update do its thing, the fan will have bursts of speed. The only time it doesn't happen is if it is sitting completely idle and light web-surfing.

Good old noisy Clevos with their eternal erratic fan tables. Clevo cheap cooling or how not to learn from yours mistakes. It's a good little experimental lap but far to be flawless.

Another complaint: the sound drivers and setup on this laptop make my headset sound like garbage. I just bought a new headset and thought that it was the problem because it was a little on the cheap side. Turns out the headset sounds great on my desktop: great bass, nice full sound, no competing sound, all of which are a problem when plugged into the laptop.

How free can I be with sound drivers. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Repasting the heatsink isn't going to make a difference as the heatpipe side is very hot so the heat is getting from the CPU to heatsink very effectively. It just stops transferring to the fan side.

Could someone else with a w230st tilt their laptop with the front a good 10 cm lower than the back and run prime95/stress testing for 5 minutes and see what happens?

I think it is worthwhile to repaste because you may find something wrong with how it's attached, a piece of tape or paper or something stuck on the die, a screw not fully seated, whatever. Plus fresh paste applied with some TLC helps immensely in 99% of cases. At least you can rule out that variable.

Mine arrived earlier today - so far very impressed with the high res screen and color/quality.
No real modifications or major updates to it yet.
Keyboard feels firm and backlit is a must. Very attractive laptop IMO
No issues with speakers/sound out of box.

Tried out Sleeping Dogs and ran perfectly except when trying to "up" the graphics settings to high or extreme it would get pretty choppy.
Using realtemp and coretemp seeing about same temperatures as others - I will attempt repasting at some point here - love ease of access on back panel versus traditional laptops I have worked on.
Can't wait to test it more!

    thanks, Chris

    specs- win8, 256 crucial msata, 16gb ram, 4700
ps: using the GUI and clicking shut down - the system just reboots back to windows login screen, has anyone else experienced this? It could just be update/drivers that I haven't messed with yet

First, go to control panel, manage audio devices, click on speakers, levels then make the pc speaker level 0 or mute, not speakers. This will get rid of any buzzing through the speakers and does not seem to affect volume at all. Finally disable soundblaster when using earphones or go to soundblaster settings and change the speaker setup to headphone.

This still doesn't work for me. If my system goes to Suspend to RAM it still loses Intel XTU settings. Are you saying that you have to use Hibernation? Blech, I don't like hibernation. Uses extra SSD space that I don't care to waste and takes a lot longer to wake from hibernation than from sleep.

At idle I hear a slight rattle in my fan too. It sounds like a hard drive. Maybe time to ask for a replacement part too.

Nope. Hibernation or a suspended state will remove the Intel XTU settings. A full shutdown or a restart will retain the settings. The post was basically my little test with it. I tried hibernation and lost my settings when it booted back up. Made sure shut down was a real shut down and powered off, powered on, and it kept my undervolt.

I'm not sure what exactly he did. Haven't had a chance to try since my laptop is still MIA for an RMA.

And your fan problem sounds exactly like mine.. You can get them to send you a replacement fan assembly by itself. Might work. Didn't for me - sounded worse.

Got mine yesterday, stock specs, WIN7 plus aftermarket Mushkin msata 240GB (not atlas).
FIFA 13 seems to work only with the IGP.
Screen is great, sound is fine.
Fan works weird, foes from zero to full power in a second for less than a minute and stops.
Keyboard seems sometimes slow, like I type faster than it shows on the screen.
Question: How do I make hotkeys work all the time so when I'll press the FN button it will be for the F's buttons?

If someone ordered their w230st and included the monitor calibration and could answer will be much appreciated.

Did they provide a file to load? How does that work? What happen if no os is order? If its a file that's included on drivers, can those be shared between other w230st since all use same monitor?
Last but not least, is it worth it? Some resellers include it but we all know is already built into bottom line.

    Thanks in advance.

Yeah not I. If the laptop is totally off and I go to power it on, the illuminated keyboard will start up in the 1st lit setting. I'm wondering if I'm the only one now... I checked the BIOS and there doesn't seem to be a setting for it. Odd.

So I take it that nobody ordered their w230st with the screen calibration? What's the color gamut of the screen on the np7330?

I'm still wrecking my brain between this model and the sager np8330( I think is the model#). The 15" has a 95% color gamut screen. I like my blu-ray movies & games to look as best as possible.

Got myself a plextor m5m 256gb msata from newegg, now just have to make up my damn mind. Decisions, decisions, decision...

I got an email stating my order has been in "processing" for 5-6 working days, that sometimes it takes 7-8 working days to enter build & testing process, and their website now states "Shipping from 20th August 2013" (previously was from 8th).
So unsure what to think =)

Well, it seems that my Mythlogic Chaos 1313 is lost somewhere in the mail. dammit........

I live overseas at an APO address, so the only way to get mail here is through USPS. I contacted the Postal Service and they made a case number to find out where the hell my laptop went.

I also asked Mythlogic about what I can do, and they said that if it is lost, then they will file a claim and build me a new laptop. Next time, I may have it sent through Fedex, and have it received at the local Fedex office here.

This pretty much sucks. I've been waiting anxiously for this laptop, and now I may have to wait some more. Even worse, I recently sent in my video card to EVGA for the new GTX 780 through the step-up program. So I don't even have a desktop machine to work with. I've been using my tablet for my general computing needs. Yuck.

I modified the nvcvn.inf file for the newer Nvidia drivers to add the Clevo W230ST's Device Id and it proceeded to install, but the installation fails. How did people get it to work? Is there anything else that needs to be done apart from modifying the nvcvn.inf file?

It will not work with their basic build of windows 8. Not sure if it works with professional or not.

I'm looking for some info regarding some GPU behavior:

I run a game for x amount of time and the GPU will downclock to 405MHz and get stuck there until I restart the laptop. It will downclock to 135MHz when idle, but it will not go above 405MHz without a restart. Is this characteristic of an unstable overclock? I think it happens when I have it on default speeds, as well; I'm not 100% sure about that, though.

Edit: This question has apparently been asked 1000 times so I will just google.

I've had mine for 3 days now, not too much time to play around with it yet. I'm in love with the screen, even though it has two dead pixels, at 160ppi, even on a white background, I'd never see them unless I went hunting for them.

Undervolted 100mV with multipliers set to 35x, 35x, 30x, 30x, overclocked the GPU +135 Core Clock, which seems to do nothing since the thing is apparently throttle locked to like 500MHz or whatever, bumped the Memory Clock to +500MHz, haven't pushed it further yet until I get the heat under control.
3DMark11 PScore is around 4900, and the only games I've played so far are Skyrim, which completely maxed out pins 60fps constantly, and GTA IV, which maxed out stays above 45fps.

Even with the undervolt, the CPU still reaches 90C in some games, until I prop up the front to let the intake have some cool air, and it drops to 75 - 80.
Didn't get it with IC Diamond, so I'll have to repaste it myself, going to try a few different pastes.

I'm really happy with it so far though, which is a relief since I sold my desktop to buy this, so it's my only computer at the moment, and needed for school for the next 2 years. My two biggest annoyances with it are that every other monitor I have looks like now, and the printing on the keyboard is like twice the size as the text on screen.

Anyone have any suggestions on good laptop cooling pads/stands? It's clear this laptop desperately needs one, if only to lift it off the ground so it can breathe to begin with.

At first they told me they have the che mei.
But since they don't have it yet... Just got an email telling me that it's delayed and they expect to get it by the 23th :-/
I may cancel my order and go for another company, not sure which one though..

I had a look on their website yesterday and on the w230st product page it says 'shipping from 20th August' for some reason - must be a backlog somewhere since that wasn't there before...

But how do you know that it is lost. USPS tracking only works till they drop it with the APO officers (Stateside), after that there is no "public" tracking system (at least here) and delivery can take a long time. It's usually about a month here, but some parcels took up to two months.

Did you ask them to ship it via First Class otherwise it may not go via air at all...my W110ER that I got last year from Mythlogic took about 3 weeks via APO (USPS First Class).

I heard most USPS claims are denied, so Mythlogic might loose some money here if it's really lost. I'd give it some time.

    Long time lurker :)

For anyone in the UK it looks like lambdatek are now stocking the Intel 7260-AC (HMWWB) wifi cards for around £19 plus del (£25 with free del off their ebay store).

I've ordered my W230ST off PCS but I'm thinking of cancelling due to PWNPCs superior warranty & perceived customer service post purchase. I had specced mine with a 4700MQ but would really like a 4702MQ due to the lower TDP, just need to see if anyone in the UK is going to stock it. MYSN.co.uk list it as an option but are quoting 2-3weeks delivery to get UK keyboards.
