Yea, I just remembered that this morning. Went ahead and downloaded the driver from the sagernotebook website, for a different model laptop (W350ST or something), and it worked!
I'm still wondering why the audio drivers from the disc, and why the default Windows audio drivers didn't pack it in. And SB Cinema EQ still doesn't work for some reason...even the one I downloaded from the sagernotebook website. Any idea why?

Good news and bad news.
Unclewebb has a beta out for Throttlestop 6.0 to support Haswell. It has limited functionality, but may be useful for users anyhow. You can basically control speed of your CPU, but not voltage. But it can also be set to boot at startup so you know it's activated. Hopefully he'll make it available for all sometime in the near future.
FWIW, I haven't had my XTU reset except after a crash or sleep. If yours keeps resetting after a reboot or shutdown then try to back off on the undervolt a little bit by 5mV even and see if the issue persists.
(A) 4702MQ isn't readily available from most vendors
(B) some users want/need the extra power for CPU only intensive stuff, but lower for gaming
(C) probably a few need the VT-d, Pro-V, or TXT features only in the i7-4800MQ or faster CPU's -
I normally don't like to double post in a thread but I think this deserves it's own.
UncleWebb has posted the beta of Throttlestop 6.00 here if interested: http://forum.notebookreview.com/windows-os-software/727663-stuck-77-ghz-battery-3.html#post9322079
It will allow you to change CPU multiplier on the fly, boot up with a set multiplier, and even run at faster multipliers on battery!
It just does not allow you to change voltage.
EDIT: Still looking for a way to have IGP run at full speed while on battery. It's ridiculous that it runs at only 400MHz when the IGP should be enough for 720p gaming on battery and keep temps and power draw under control. But gimping it to 400MHz is ridiculous. -
On another note I became impatient waiting for this model and ended up building my own mATX Haswell desktop instead of adding another laptop to our household. Although I still do love this laptop, and follow the thread periodically. I figured that it was best to have one of each. I ended up going with the i5 4670K (4.6 GHz @ 1.218V) and an EVGA GTX 770 SC and it is silly fast, but obviously I had to compromise on portability. I really lucked out in the "Haswell Lottery" so to speak with my CPU, it runs stable at very low voltage. Haswell K series chips seem to have a varying range of overclockability. Is that also the case with the mobile unlocked CPUs? Desktops are really a different animal than laptops, and I still have a lot to learn. I hope that laptops begin to offer some of the fine tuning available to modern desktops in the UEFI BIOS, what a difference between the two. I will say however that mobile GPUs have come a long way and aren't that far behind the desktop counterparts. So this is basically what convinced me not to get this laptop;

Does anybody know this blue screen error : VIDEO_DXGKRNL_FATAL_ERROR ?
I formated and reinstalled all the stock drivers but still get this error from time to time (when I install a program, load a game or sometimes even when I just switch on the laptop).
And everytime this error appears and the laptop reboots, the GTX 765m is not seen in windows and the Nvidia control panel is not there.
I've been told it could be caused by some incompatibility issues with the RAM I installed : Crucial 8Go Ballistix Sport DDR3 PC3-12800
BLS8G3N169ES4 - 8GB, Ballistix 204-pin SODIMM , DDR3 PC3-12800 from Crucial.com
Does anybody use this type of RAM? Could it be because of the RAM that I get this error?
Any help would be really really appreciated. I am kind of desperate right now -

Planning to purchase the W230St for school use; mainly for AutoCAD and Photoshop. Would you guys recommend the 4702 or 4700? 4700 does offer slightly more performance, but I'm willing to choose 4702 if the cooling is somewhat greater.
-
If you can get access to another recent laptop with DDR3, the RAM test is easy ! Did you test your RAM btw ? (memtest)
Makes me wonder if vRAM can be checked for errors, anyone knows ?
You could also check the event monitor (not sure of the english name for this), it may have relevant infos.
Lastly, check that your BIOS has default settings (not sure which one can be fiddled with on that laptop), and if nothing works you could even try to call MS or Sager ^^ -
I have a suggestion that we make a seperate w230st troubleshoot, driver and guide section where all problems are listed and possible solutions as well as some undervolting guide etc ? What do you guys think ? I'm getting mine next week and honestly its going to be a pain to go through all the posts again to find solutions for problems or working gpu drivers etc.

So I just got my W230ST in today and it seems like the bottom right side of the keyboard is all "clacky" and is not set all the way down. Does anyone else have this problem or are there instructions as to how to remove the keyboard to try to fix?

The NVidia card is not showing up in the Windows Experience Index (WEI) test, and also in the DirectX Diagnostic Tool (dxdiag) for me. Both of them show the Intel HD 4600 only. Why is that?
I also couldn't find anything in the NVidia Control Panel to set the Nvidia GPU for these programs (WEI and dxdiag) specifically.
Is this how it is for everyone?

Wow, perfect HTWingNut , thanks!
Second question...does the whole Optimus video card switching happen automatically so when gaming it will use the GPU and when not it will use the Intel video? -
If someone ordered their w230st and included the monitor calibration and could answer will be much appreciated.
Did they provide a file to load? How does that work? What happen if no os is order? If its a file that's included on drivers, can those be shared between otherw230st since all use same monitor?
Last but not least, is it worth it? Some resellers include it but we all know is already built into bottom line.
Thanks in advance. -
So I got my W230ST early on Monday.
I have two big problems with it:
1. Computer does not shut off or sleep. It will always boot back up. I can turn it off if I unplug the AC and shut down, but it will still not go to sleep in that state. Mythlogic told me this was an issue they've been seeing with Win8.
2. Plugging in a USB on the left side of the W230ST sends loud interference noises (depending on the device) to my headphones. This happens with battery, AC, and AC+Battery.
They've been friendly, but I haven't been able to get a solution from Mythlogic all week and they haven't responded to me for a couple days now. I may have to send it back for repair or refund -
-
I'm really looking forward to fan speed control.
-
-
Count me in as another who would greatly benefit from an extended battery.
-
-
Haven't fully test it's stability yet.
But it doesn't seem to OC that well from couple of test I did.
Remember when I last mentioned about the GK107 vBIOS inside the System BIOS but couldn't find any GK106?
The reason is that the GTX765M have it's own separated vBIOS.
Means that you can use NVFlash to flash it.
Credits to Prema. -
Actually I'm mostly interested in increased vRAM speed. I'd like to be able to undervolt a bit too. Core doesn't seem to be the bottleneck at all.

HTWingNut, can i get permission to post some pictures from this thread esp on first page, i wanna make thread about clevo w230st using my language in indonesian forum (kaskus).

Hello folks, long time lurker on this thread, first time posting now!
I got a W230ST and have spent the last few days settting it up with Windows 7 and having a play with it. It has the 4900mq processor.
Now I have noticed something that seems quite strange with my machine. If I tilt the laptop forward, then the temperature skyrockets.
As an example, I am now running prime95 and the CPU core temp is sitting at 70-71 degrees C. If I lift it off the table I see about a 2 degree temp drop. If I then tilt the laptop so that it is at around a 35 degree angle the temp starts to increase pushing into the 90's and eventually the CPU starts throttling itself. The air blowing out of the side of the laptop is also quite cool while this is happening. My thought is that the CPU paste is running off the processor and therefore not allowing it to cool itself. I am not sure if this is even possible.
The reason I noticed this intially is I placed the laptop on my laptop stand and it started to increase in temperature.
Any thoughts on how to fix this? -
CPU paste does not run. It's a paste, not liquid, and under pressure. If you lift up the back end up it should decrease temps since it allows improved airflow. Only thing I can think of actually is that your CPU is running FASTER because it is getting better airflow, causing the temps to increase more. Check CPU speeds when doing this, and when flat on table they are likely only about 2.8-2.9GHz. Lift up the back end and it will likely be 3.2-3.3GHz.
-
Hi HTWingNut,
So if it isn't the paste, it has to be something else.
Lifting the backend up is increasing temps the CPU is running and slowing it down.
Running flat on table:
Speed: 3.19GHz - 3.39GHz
Active cores: 4
Temp: 74 degrees
Running Tilted (back higher than front):
Speed: 1.90GHz - 2.19GHz
Active cores: 4
Temp: 98 degrees
So it isn't running faster due to increased cooling. It is having problem getting the heat away. I can feel the air that is getting blown out getting much cooler when tilted, while CPU temp goes through the roof at the same time. Are the heat pipes containing a liquid that is flowing when tilted? -
I have done some more testing and by tilting the laptop in the opposite direction (front of laptop higher than back) I am able to lower the temperatures of the laptop.
Again running prime95, Tilted with front higher than back:
Speed: 3.19GHz
Active cores: 4
Temp: 67 degrees
Can anyone else replicate these findings with their laptop? -
Is you fan and heatsink properly attached?
These symptoms can happen if fan and/or heatsink only have good contact in one position. -
Yes, the fan and heatsink look attached as they should be.
I just did another test by removing the bottom cover of the laptop and placing a finger on the heatpipe copper that is closest to the 2.5 drive bay and then ran prime95 with laptop level which resulted in a temp around the 60's. I then tilted the back higher than the front and the temp started to rise to the point where I was unable to keep my finger on the pipe as the heat got too high, checking the software and it had gone into the 90's again.
This indicates to me that the heatsink is properly attached and is conducting the heat to the end of the heat pipe on the CPU, but it is then not conducting that heat to the fan side of the equation. If someone else could tilt their laptop under load and watch the temperature for a few minutes we should be able to narrow this down to either just my laptop or something to do with the design of the heat pipes. -
But nothing much can be done right now other than trying to mess around with the Core clock.
Waiting for your mod on the vRAM though. -
I ran my w110er at every possible angle ^^ and it's the same tech.
If your fan is working correctly while tilted, I assume you got a defective heatpipe.
Another strange thing is, you have 4900MQ and very low temps when tilted the good way ^^ -
Yeah something isn't right. Pretty much every user here has experienced a significant drop in temperatures by propping up the back of the laptop, not the opposite. I would remove the heatsink, clean off the paste off the CPU and heatsink, and reapply some new paste and see what happens. If it does the same thing, the heatsink/pipe may be faulty.

Whenever my laptop is not running games such as browsing the net and watching movies, it seems to get a bit uncomfortable to touch because its too hot. I also dont want to have to use fn+1 every once in a while to cool it down

So my first evening with the laptop was an interesting one. A few problems were solved and I ran into a few others that I bypassed. I'm still liking it though so that's good.
Problems:
Keyboard at the bottom right side was clacky and didn't seem to fit properly enough in place. ( Solution was to follow HTWingnut's video, remove the keyboard, and then I placed a strip of electrical tape wrapped in plastic wrap over on the bottom-right side. I've had to do that with some Asus laptops in the past. Now the keyboard is perfect)
After getting Win7 installed and while installing all of the drivers I hit a problem where the video kept on blinking in/out, similar to how the LCD behaves when you insert an HDMI cord for an external monitor..just picture doing that manually every 8 seconds or so. Very annoying. (Solution has not been 100% tested and verified but I think this happened after I went to Intel's site and downloaded/installed the newest Chipset INF drivers. I wiped the whole machine and didn't install these drivers (and not even the ones that came with the CD) and all is fine for now so I think those drivers may have been the cause)
Concerns:
I played Dishonored or pretty high to maxed settings for 3 hours last night and the fan on the machine was pretty loud. That is to be expected though. The concern was after I stopped playing the fan would keep on going into a 'burst' mode where it would blow on full blast for 15 sec or so and then be totally silent for 10 sec and then burst again. This didn't seem to let up. The fan never seemed to want to stay at a slower constant speed.
While playing my game, the screen did blank on me a few times. I am hoping it is not related to the Problem posting with the driver but yeah the other culprit would be heat which would be equally disturbing.
After playing the temperatures were around 80C for CPU and I don't remember what it was for GPU. But yeah the laptop gets quite hot when gaming. -
For those of you who have problems with XTU settings not sticking try this:
"EDIT: Fixed the problem...apparently a fresh install of Windows 8 has a "Fast Startup" option that instead of fully shutting down your PC, it sets it to a hibernation state. Only noticed when I attempted to shut down and boot back up that it said the PC was starting from Hibernation. After disabling "Fast Start Up" (Power Options->Choose what closing the lid does) and enabling Hibernation as a separate shut down option, the settings now stick. Retarded changes that I'm new to for Windows 8..."
Credit goes to lonesyndal of techinferno. -
I'm not sure what I can say about the chipset drivers failing.. mines were fine. Though there are two disks that came with my laptop, Windows 7 and Windows 8 (Windows 8 disk does NOT say it has Windows 8 drivers). I highly recommend Windows 8 on this laptop just for the sake of driver support... and the fact that it was designed for Windows 8 in mind. -
How come when running a CPU Stress test in Intel XTU the CPU is at 100% utilization yet never goes above 3.19 ghz?

Is your CPU throttling?
What are your Power Options?
