I am displeased with my new NP7388 screen. It seems to cause extreme eye strain.
Note: I am very sensitive to computer screens and monitors. I could never stand to use a 60hz CRT, for example.
I am not entirely sure what about the screen is causing the problem. The viewing angles are good, so that isn't it.
The problem is especially apparent if I look at large white areas, even if I set the brightness very low. It is as if my eyes can't focus on them. I see 'eye residuals', as if I've just rubbed my eyes vigorously. A similar effect occurs on laptops with poor viewing angles. The only other obvious anomaly I can detect is that reds and yellows are extremely pronounced.
I've already played with all of the settings in the Windows 8 'Color Calibration' program, and I have tried various settings in the Intel Video control panel. (Gamma, Saturation, etc). Has anyone else experienced this?
I'm beginning to worry that I just can't deal with IPS screens.![]()

Hi guys,
I bought this laptop (under a rebrand named Monster HUMA H3) one month ago and I must admit: it's pretty awesome! Unfortunately I've encountered a couple of (personally I consider them BIG) problems:
- The surface of the chassis above the HDD (doesn't happen if you only have an mSSD installed) gets uncomfortably warm when the temperature of the HDD reaches 45-50 degrees (Celsius). Maybe it is just the increasing temperature of the environment that, well, "helps" the process (here we are in the middle of summer after all) but I would like to know if you also had the same problem. Do you think I should talk to the assistance?
- The audio card (VIA 1802p) has a weird problem on Linux. Basically after suspend/resume the headphones jack stops working. Everything else does but that. Same thing happens on Windows if you don't install the CLEVO Hotkey utility but at least everything is fine if you...Well...Install the utility! I was wondering if any of you managed to fix this. There is also a bug report open so I would be grateful if you could contribute: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=75151 .
Thank you in advance. If I don't manage to fix these two things within a week I'm going to buy a freaking overpriced (but "works out of the box") Macbook out of desperation! -

It can get warm there as the hdd is close to the palm rest.
Not sure on the Linux issue, sorry. -

Mine is rockstable @ -83,9 but everything more (84,x) results in crashes after about 1h of gaming
Every CPU has other optimal settings (sweet spot). Think its normal. All i heard is that -50mV worked in most cases. -
I'm having a weird problem with the sound on my w230ss. I've looked through the forum but haven't found any similar problem.
When I plug any earphone/headphone into the audio jack and play music, I can't hear any vocals and the music almost sounds very distant. When I plug speakers into the audio jack, the sound is normal. I've uninstalled and then reinstalled the audio drivers with no luck. Any one else having this kind of issue, or know any fix? -
-
-
After hours of troubleshooting I finally fixed it. Following jinsirius's method, I uninstalled all the sound drivers (via hd audio driver/sb cinema/hotkey). Instead of restarting the computer right away, I performed a complete shut down using shutdown -s -t 0 in the command prompt. Then, I installed the audio driver first, followed by sb cinema and finally hotkey, peforming a complete shutdown after each installation. All my earphones sound normal again. I don't know what caused it but at least this method worked. Thanks again for the help!

I hope this is the right thread, I've got a 7358 with some odd bluetooth problems which I'm struggling to figure out. I use it to connect to a bluetooth receiver attached to my stereo and it works fine until I start downloading anything (images on webpages, files, etc.), then the audio starts stuttering. This does not happen when I am not using bluetooth and it doesn't happen to the audio from, say a Youtube video. Additionally, I've had a number of BSODs occur while using bluetooth, usually when the receiver turns itself off or if I try to switch MusicBee back to speakers/headphones (I often run MusicBee to BT and everything else to the laptop speakers). I've updated all the relevant drivers. Anybody have any idea what's going wrong?
-
Soooo I kinda followed jinsirius's method and now the headphone jack issues is fixed
...but my speakers aren't working. Also, I don't know how relevant this is, but when I try to look at sb cinema, i get this dialog box: this and hitting "yes" gets me this
I swear everything's there though... I mean this is all of it, right? http://i.imgur.com/RcNmmDB.png -
Hi guys, new here I dunno if I am in the right thread but I got hold of a d900f but it only has hard drive under battery(manual states its secondary) my question is can I use it for primary. Can't install anymore as parts are missing. Ty in advanced for any replies

Wow that machine could not be more different than the thread you chose. There is/was a d900f owners thread but yes you can select the boot order in the bios.

The HDD temperature rarely goes beyond 46 degrees (C). Right now is exactly at 46 and after a couple of minutes typing/using the touchpad I have to lift my hand and make it rest on a cooler surface... :/ -
I ordered my Clevo W230SS barebone yesterday, along with an i5-4200M for $160 from ebay and 8GB of DDR3L-1600.
I'm using my old 500GB HDD for now, but I'll get one or two msata SSDs to replace that in the near future
I really can't wait for it all to arrive!
I wasn't sure of the 13.3" form factor, but I just decided to go for it. We'll see in a few days
I'll just list the overall specs and cost too btw:
Barebone: $775
1920x1080 panel (the 3K panel was only $39 more, but somehow I decided not to go for that. It's sunday so nothing has been done with the order yet. Maybe someone has experience with it and convince me?)
Dual band wireless 300mbit upgrade from 150mbit single band
i5-4200M: $160
8GB RAM: $82
Total: $1017
Quite a good deal eh? -
My w230ss is on its way, but new graphics cards are coming, do you think I need to cancel and wait?
-
There are gonna be some new desktop GPUs on the way, but I don't suppose we're gonna see new series from either AMD or Nvidia until at least 2015.
Waiting with buying a new PC is almost never a good idea by the way, unless the new GPUs are already officially announced. -

3.7ghz is single core only. You have to increase the tdp to avoid throttle, this can make it hotter though.

Hi Guys, I just recently bought this model but it came with no OS, and only BIOS, I am having trouble installing OS to this Laptop since it has not CD/DVD Drive.
Can someone guide me for general step-by-step method on installing OS on this machine?
BTW, I am planning to install Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit on it, is it OK?
Thanks -
So, anyone have any experience with the 3200x1800 screen that's available?
-
Hello all,
Recently bought a XMG 304 and I am very impressed with it, only slight issue I have is with the heat this puts out.
The noise is fine but it seems a little hot to what I am reading of other peoples.
I am running it on a cooling mat and the CPU hit 95*c when gaming, I have tried a little undervolt, -70 and it made 3 or 4*c difference.
I plan to repaste the CPU and GPU soon so hopefully that will help.
Is there anything else I can look to do to improve the temps?
Thanks, -

Otherwise buy a cheap USB cd/dvd drive for maybe US$25 will do the job.
You should also have received a drivers disc with the laptop. Install the o/s, then the drivers. Good to go. -
For giggles i run it at native without pixel doubling and it makes for a very tiny desktop that even with my glasses i strain to see.
Hope that helps! -

The cheapest I could find anywhere is $1180 for the same config...
Do notice I live in The Netherlands and not in the US or anything. -
As long as you have something with a DVD drive you can just open the folder there and copy all the files to a USB drive.
If you don't, you can easily pirate a windows copy and use you legit key without problems. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Why pirate when you can legally download the windows 7 ISO?
-
You can? I completely missed that :')
I've been doing it like this for years now -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Lol, I like my fast and spyware free downloads, what can I say?

Hey everyone so I've decided to hop on the w230ss bandwagon, been following this thread for quite a while now but now I'm definitely purchasing, a few questions tho:
1. I wanna maximize on battery life, what configs would do that, like would going i5>i7 help? And is the commonly posted 5.5-6 hours of battery on or off WiFi?
2. I live in Ottawa Canada, and was wondering if anyone has preferences of Eurocom or Reflex? If I were to purchase off Eurocom I could pick up since they're located in Ottawa
3. Anyone have a Eurocom m4 in which they'd like to review their purchasing experience? Keep in mind I'm going into university next year and able to take full advantage of student discounts, not sure if reflexnotebook has a equivalent
If anyone is able to answer any of the questions or provide info which is believed to be useful, please do! Thanks for the help -
1. No, as long as the wattage is the same it doesn't matter. I'd personally suggest going for a 37W part (i5 vs i7? I don't know. I don't think an i7 will give you any more FPS combined with this GPU. It's a different story when you're doing CPU bound stuff tho, like picture/video editing and rendering).
2. I don't live in canada
3. I don't have a Eurocom m4
Anyway, this laptop is gonna be a HUGE upgrade from the laptop you have now. Especially because it's not alienware
Edit:
I suggested a 37W part not only because of the power savings, but also because it'll run a lot cooler.
That's quite a thing to hold into account when dealing with notebooks this size... -
1. Personally I'm not sure a lower wattage CPU really results in more battery life since the CPU is automatically throttled down when not being exercised. I'd stick with the most bang for buck, in my case that was the 4810 when it was an on-sale upgrade at $35. Worse case you can always use something like Intel XTU to undervolt the CPU
2. I ordered from Reflex Notebook as I'm in Toronto, no issues but I wish they their communications would be more proactive. For example, I don't think my order status on their site ever got changed to Shipped. However I always got same day responses to emails and they almost always answer the phone when you call so no major complaints. Never dealt with Eurocom, but I'd had heard less then positive things in the past that made me avoid them.
3. Nope -
Thanks for the replies so far!
It seems that the only 37W is the i5-4210m, and 47W ranges from i7-4700qm to 4910qm. The i5 is only dual core I believe but I save $80 on Eurocom whereas upgrading to 4710 from 4700 is +$50. I'd like it to be future proof, but I wouldn't mind saving a few bucks where possible. My thoughts are similar to Gerald where the wattage is only at maximum capacity, if I were to go endurance it would all be light work so I don't think it would matter.. I think. Please correct me if I'm wrong!
For Eurocom, with a 1080p screen, i5, and 1tb harddrive, it comes to $1094 and I also get a 10% student discount
For reflex, everything at default with a 1tb harddrive comes to $1150, not sure if they have additional discounts and also unsure about shipping (Eurocom I can pick up)
Is there anything which offers a cheaper price out there or suggestions on configs? Answers to previous questions and additional information is still welcome, and thanks again for anyone with information!! -
Hi,
Do all the W230SS's come with the TPM (Trusted Platform Module) Chip? I got mine today, installed the driver, but it's not detected. It wasn't listed in the parts/features when I bought it either. -
Hello everyone,
First time poster but long time reader of this forum for many years. I've always wanted a Clevo so I ordered a Clevo W230SS a week after my Acer TimelineX 4820TG died several weeks ago from misuse on my part. I ordered from CyberpowerPC and will be getting the 1920x1080 display; i7 4810MQ; 16 GB of RAM; 1TB SSHD; Intel AC Wireless. I am expecting delivery of the Clevo sometime this Friday. I am hoping everything turns out well but I will report anything negative as it arises. -
-
I'm loving my laptop so far, but coming from a 15.6" I am feeling it's a tiny bit small. I have to move it closer to me on a desk a bit to read the small fonts. I have chrome at 90% so I can fit a lot on my screen.
Hoping I'll get used to the size, happy I didn't opt for the QHD as my eyes aren't strong enough for fonts that small -
I had to do decide the same. And took the i7 because of the fps difference in bf3. Modern games can come optimized for quad cores and get a big boost. Battery life is nearly the same with i5 / undervolted i7. But you cannot add 2 cores to the i5. With Prema BIOS you can set 37W TDP and frequency or even disbale Cores for all i7 if needed. I have a 4710mq @ default clock and with undervolt the heat is absolutely OK. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
You can add the CPU yourself later if you like but for the money the I7 does makes sense.
