I believe this did the trick for me.
You will need to restart your computer after applying.

    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Synaptics\SynTPEnh\ZoneConfig\TouchPadPS2_1\Right Edge Pull]

I have the 500GB Samsung 840 EVO and I am very happy with it - their 'Magician' software is good too - ridiculously fast read/write times with that software enabled. For the last few years I've been using Intel 520 series SSDs, so I'm used to fairly good quality. This EVO is my first mSATA btw.

You want to trade the laptop you just got like a week or so ago? Return it and buy a different one then - you have a 30 day right of return (with most retailers anyway)... unless you meant your previous laptop.. { link to marketplace}.

Wondering what you mean by higher 'capacity' CPU? You mean higher clock speed, more cores..?

Question: I currently have a 500GB Samsung 840 EVO mSATA in 'Slot #1' in HTWingnut's image above, and nothing in mSATA 'Slot #2'. The EVO runs a little warm (although well within specs). I am wondering if shifting to 'Slot #2' would change the operating temperature of the SSD at all.. anyone tried it out?

For anyone who may have tried it, I'm wondering if shifting it over had any effect on the CPU/GPU operating temperatures (this is probably the more important question, lol).

I'm of course assuming that 'Slot #2' can be populated without having 'Slot #1' populated as well...

If it matters, I also have a 750GB mech HDD sitting in the drive bay below 'Slot #1', but rarely if ever use it other than as a scratch disc for photoshop. I may just pull that HDD out now I think about it.

    Cheers.

I have a 500gb Samsung Evo in slot #2 in HT's picture and a 1tb HDD in the 2.5" bay. My CPU runs hot under load, GPU stays below 75c no mater how high I OC it. The Samsung runs in the low to mid 60's on my laptop. It's the first mSATA I have had so really never paid much attention to it. But it does list in the yellow 'caution' zone in whatever the SSD benchmark app I was using while under load...I think it was CrystalDiskMark, or just below it with very light use.

I have the same thing with my 240gb Crucial M500, it's temperature is around 60c most of the time. People on the web say it's normal for msata ssds, but it still makes me worried. 2'5 Crucial M4 in my XPS stays cold no matter what.

I currently have the W230ST, with the GPU overclocked by 80Mhz, and the VRAM overclocked by 533mhz.

My question is, I can get the barebones version of this laptop for $610. Would it be worth my time, effort, and money to buy this laptop in barebones for $610 and then transfer my parts from my W230ST (HDD, SSD, RAM, CPU, WIFI card), and sell my barebones 230ST off? (what would that be even worth?)

What performance differences would I see? and is it a worthy upgrade?

Ok thanks for that - about the same temp on my EVO in Slot #1.. sounds like any difference is negligible.

    Thanks Prema!! Awesome stuff.
I got v1.1 installed and running this evening and did some playing with NVIDIA Inspector. My previous max stable overclock was +280 on the core and on memory was only +160. Unfortunately those numbers were pretty much the limit with the new improved vBIOS. I was still only able to hit +280 on the core and made one benchmark pass through Heaven at +170 on the memory. When I tried +180 I had artifacts. I tried this with the voltage turned all the way up also. Hopefully others with have a better combo of chips in their laptop and can really push this little card to find out what it can do.
Thanks again Prema. I'm still quite happy with the boost over stock I am achieving with the overclock speeds I am able to run.

Even with the same settings your system will now run faster as the clocks are no longer throttled but constant.

    http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/8385209

So while the old vBIOS throttled even on stock clocks, you can now overclock and get the clocks you set constantly:

In our tests with the same OC clocks the Clevo ran in the mid 60s while the p34G was touching 90c.

The better the cooling of a system the more efficient it will be able to sustain the clocks on cpu and gpu without slowing down.

The cooling on this small Clevo isn't the best, but the cooling on the P34g is just bad.

I stumbled across the Sager NP7338 while browsing the Xoticpc website today. I've been looking for a compact laptop to replace a hulking tower that's just taking up space. My ideal is to have just one computer, something I can take with me whenever I'm mobile, but still rest on my desktop, hooked up to a multiple drive bay.

I'm currently considering getting an Apple MacBook Pro, as I need to edit HD video occasionally. My main use for the machine will be writing, surfing the web and email. But I notice the Sager is about the same size and weight as the MacBook Pro. It's also a lot cheaper, despite being as well specified. Plus, I don't have to learn a new OS, or spend extra money to integrate my legacy Windows apps. The only downside of the NP7338 is that battery life doesn't seem to be nearly as good as it is on the MacBook Pro.

The one thing I notice about the Sager laptop is that the keyboard appears to be backlit, and it looks like it was lifted straight from the Acer Aspire V5 14" laptop I own now and have put up for auction on eBay. Even the case, apart from the beveled edges, looks somewhat similar. Apart from the backlighting, the keyboard on the Aspire V5 isn't that good. Can anyone tell me how the keyboard is on the Sager?

gt 750m in MBP doesn't come close to gtx 860m in terms of performance. 860m is about twice as fast and IMO truly can be called a desktop class GPU by performance measurements.
I am very satisfied with the keyboard, it's sturdy and I like the way it feels when you type. The size is good as well considering how large my hands are. :) For me the only significant downside of this laptop is a really poor sound quality, even in headphones. Music sounds mushy and cheap. Don't know what I am going to do about it, perhaps buy some kind of external DAC or amplifier. Never dealt with this kind of issue before.

Battery life is about 5-5.5 hours useful life, up to 6 or more if you fine tune it, which is quite good actually considering it houses a full 47W TDP CPU and powerful dGPU.

There's been numerous comments on the keyboard, and most have been positive. I've used the W230ST for about a year before upgrading to the W230SS, both which have the same keyboard, and it is perfectly fine for a lot of typing I do on a daily basis. It's not soft, no missed keystrokes, it's quiet. The keyboard is not like the v5, other than having chiclet keys, that is about the only comparison.

The case really reminds me of an Asus rog. The unit is pretty nice for the size. It isn't a featherweight but definitely belongs in the lightweight category at just over 2kg. The screen is good outdoors in direct sun as I saw today. Its crisp at 13.3" and 1080p. The computer does hold its own heatwise under load. About 60 mins of arma2 on battery had the fan spinning slowly. This a mix of computer on leather couch and kitchen countertop. No special cooling measures. The system was warm but not hot to the touch.

The keyboard is great. It is similar to the Asus u46 and blows out of the water the keyboard on the lenovo 430s, the HP nc6400 and the hp elite book I use for work, as well as the Toshiba POSes that they use at work too. The backlight is nice. Key travel is good without being excessive and the landing is soft without being mushy to the feel. The trackpad is meh and slightly small. Although the size is due to the form factor definitely in the middle of the road to low end for modern standards.

The speakers. Not as bad as some are saying but they definitely lack low end and aren't terribly loud, the sound is definitely muddy but I've had worse in computers that claim to have the best sound systems. Haven't tried the audio jack yet.

The computer, nicely debadged and sitting docilely on a counter does not strike one as something special but that's where one would be wrong.

Solid 9/10. Losing marks for the touchpad and audio.

I just received my Clevo W230SS/Sager NP7338 from XOTIC PC a couple weeks ago and I finally got around to stress-testing it with some games this weekend.
I'm not entirely certain where the issue stems from, but I ran into serious difficulties getting the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M functioning properly. The laptop is fantastic and highly recommended otherwise.

I would rather not clutter up this thread, but I wrote a full report on the problem in NVIDIA's drivers web forum, found here: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/749377/geforce-drivers/nvidia-gtx-860m-driver-issues-details-inside-/

It seems to me that either the GPU itself is faulty or the driver that keeps it going. That being said, I've tested quite a few different drivers (337.88 WHQL, 337.50 BETA, 337.60 from Clevo, 332.35 from Sager) with very little success. However, because the video card is so brand new, I feel that almost anything could be the root of the problem. Ideally I want to avoid requesting an RMA, so I just want to be certain that I need to before getting around to it.

So, does anybody else have this problem (or perhaps encountered any solutions)?

i had the same problems: The active application crashes, a popup stating "Display driver Nvidia Windows Kernel Mode driver, [driver version] has stopped responding and has successfully recovered." appears.
with my GTX680M in a Clevo P170EM when i applied to heavy OC settings.
If you have not running any OC it really may be a hardware fault... :-(

Hey everyone! I intend to sell my Sager NP7338 as I require a Mac to make iOS apps for the course that I am taking at the university. I intended to add more bells and whistles but it seems like I won't be able to do so. If anyone is interested, please PM me. Thank you.

MacOS on VirtualBox may be an option as well. Just max out the RAM so you can have a game running in the back. Alt+Tab for procrastination.

It's a decent requirement. I wish I could stick to this laptop and afford a Mac. Going back to a Mac from such a powerful machine is kind of a downer.

This computer handles cooling a lot better than a MacBook Pro. Especially while running Google Chrome. The battery drain in a Macbook while watching videos on a browser is a lot more than that this laptop.

What would be the performance penalty? Though then again, I'm fairly sure the stock i7 CPU is more than sufficient to make up for the performance loss compared to using the Macbook's i5 CPUs. Although battery life might take a bit of a hit.

Isn't there a compatibility issue with the GTX 860m?

I don't like to work on virtual machines when it comes to serious work unless necessary.

Honestly, there would be a significant performance hit. There's overhead to run VirtualBox itself. It's not as good at sharing resources like enterprise-level hypervisors, e.g. KVM. I don't know much about iOS app development but I know besides code, there's quite a bit of graphics to do, possibly on Adobe suite which is resource heavy. For serious work, I would not run a game at the same time. :p

Bare metal hackintosh would be a lot better. Maybe even install OSX on its own mSATA drive.

With that said, I don't have a personal i7 windows laptop to test this on. I finally just ordered my NP7338 a few hours ago from Reflex notebook. Hoping that goes through without much delay.

I'm replacing a 2007 plastic white Macbook with a Core 2 Duo. Looking at the current line up of Macbooks and their prices, I would definitely try all the options.

As far as I am aware, you only just got the NP7338 a couple of weeks ago.. if it's still within 30 days of purchase you should be able to return it for a full refund, no questions asked.
