I use this laptop with the same goal in mind.
Want a portable light computer with good battery life for school but still be able to game on it when I get home and hook it up to my 24" monitor. If I go to a friends house I can probably use their TV as a larger monitor and only bring keyboard and mouse and worst case scenario I use the 13" screen. This computer fits the bill perfectly.

@TheSwede86
Yeah I saw the posts earlier where you guys were discussing whether this laptop supports mobile broadband, but the fact that the Clevo site says "Factory Option" concerned me. The pictures posted earlier had 3G markings on the motherboard, but does yours actually have it marked when you open it up?
I'm not sure how this works: would Schenker have to have ordered your laptop barebones specifically to have the hybrid mSATA/mPCIe slot, or do all motherboards have it that they ship, but it's disabled somehow?
You're right though, the fact that it has a mobile broadband antenna suggests it should. -
After getting frustrated using the search function....
Is it better to get higher speed ram such as DDR3 2133 Cas 11 or lower Cas Latency such as DDR3 1600 Cas 9? I understand that this answer might be different when using the factory stock bios and the Modded Perma bios. So ask for both situations. Heck a person might just need to get the stock DDR3 1600 or any cheap reliable 1.35v dimm. Thank you very much.

Is your environment air-conditioned or do you leave in a colder climate? -
Finally got mine couple days ago and have been using it ever since. Couple of frustration I've been ahving is sometimes my bluetooth mouse would stop working in the middle of playing games. Also the wireless status changes from Connected to limited time to time leaving me kicked from internet access. NAyone having similiar issure and would know what the issue/fix is?

Ihave the intel 7260 ac, running windows 8.1

Can anyone comment on the laptop's battery life in ubuntu or arch linux vs what they are getting in Windows 8.1. Those two distros will be my main driver when I do order the laptop and I just want to see which one enable the laptop to last longer. I probably won't be doing anything too intensive. Maybe some emacs, vim and eclipse with some light web browsing. I wouldn't mind disabling the 860m in linux. All I hope is that the battery can reach(and pass) 5 hours of usage.

Hey, just got this nice little powerful notebook and I'm liking it so far. Having trouble overclocking the GPU though. I am using NVIDIA Inspector and tried using HTWingNut's OC settings but whenever I boot up a benchmark utility, it fails. I tried lowering everything to a very modest OC, but it still fails. Do I need to unlock something in the BIOS, or do something beyond downloading NVIDIA Inspector?

This may well be an issue with thw Windows 8.1 update, specifically kb2919355. On a fresh Win 8.1 install the audio works fine, but there have been 1 or 2 reports of this sleep issue after the update. Did you receive the laptop with Win 8.1, or did you install it yourself / upgrade from 8 to 8.1?

Will contact CarTFT via mail today and see if they have any solutions. Will contact Schenker today as well and see if they have anything to add, an answer on this forum would of course be very much appreciated as well (from the Schenker people) -
It is sometimes easy to miss a question, especially in long threads like this. So if you or anyone else has a specific questionlike this then feel free to pm as well, or contact us directly!

I understand you might miss question in this thread since its large and gets a lot of new posts quickly, you should have thanks and kudos for being here and answering questions in the first place so no worries
Great that it has been confirmed and yes, I can confirm that on Win 8.1 at least with the Huawei ME909u-521 drivers does not seem to work quite so well. Hopefully if I pester Huawei tomorrow they might have a solution.
The biggest problems I have faced are these:
- Unable to shut off Mobile Broadband (the "slider" cant go to the "Off"-position, it immediately "bounces" back to the "On"-position)
- Unable to connect again after disconnecting for the first time (there is no option after clicking the mobile broadband to "Connect", nothing happens, it just gets highlighted)
- "HUAWEI GNSS Sensor" can't start in "Device Manager" and gives "Error Code 10"
(Unsure if this is due to my Intel 7260 AC WiFi + BT-card or the Huawei module but seems to be random freezes happening and BT-devices loosing connection if only for a few seconds)
Then the main problem is that even though I am connected and Windows tells me I have an internet connection via mobile broadband I can't surf. I could surf the first time I got it working but not any time after that. Might be solved with a new SIM (from another carrier) and I'll test and report back regardless (as well as my reply from Huawei).
Thanks again for confirming that the slot itself supports an mPCIe 3G/4G module, now I only hope the manufacturers will get their act together and sort out the drivers. Getting Intel to release stable drivers for the 7260 AC would be sweet as well
---
Update:
Received my new SIM today and it works as well as the earlier one i.e. I can surf for a few min then I can't do it anymore.
I will try to top up the card and see if this is due to the fact I don't have any credits (Telia told me that you should still be able to reach their homepage and top it up when you run out of credits although he admitted that this was unreliable). After disconnecting I get the same problems as before, I can't connect to it again and after a restart the mobile broadband module reports an error in device manager and I can't see any mobile broadband to connect to in Windows.
Was on the phone with Huawei which didn't know anything about the product, when I told him to google it then he found the product on their homepage but on their homepage they only say it supports Android and Linux. This might be due to the fact that Huawei haven't developed drivers yet for Windows and therefore it does not support Windows but where I bought from they clearly state it supports Windows,Linux and Android. I posted on their (Huawei) facebook and will hopefully get a reply there soon. -
Anyone have issues on their laptop where the headphone jack does not appear in sound settings? I've instead HD Via and SoundBlaster... but when I plug in headphones, nothing comes through. Went to Control Panel -> Sound and headphones don't even show up there even though ViaHD recognizes that the jack has been plugged in.

Does the keyboard have a similar feel to the w110er? Just ordered this and never actually bothered to check opinions...
-
The w230ss has slightly bigger chicklet keys than w110er.
This is my personal opinion, others might disagree with me.
You have to try it out in person to get the feel of the keyboard. -
just see the transparent cover for w230:

Nice! interesting idea and looks cool
-
I use a W230ST every day and the keyboard is IMO noticably better than the W110ER one, in fact I'd say it's probably the best keyboard available in a Clevo chassis at the moment!

Is there a way to disable the splash screen of the "sound blaster cinema" when it starts?
-
I guess I got an all around bad egg. I still can't find a fix for 7260ac disconnecting and putting the connection to limited. my bluetooth mouse stops working randomly, exhaust fan is rattling. and LCD screen has yellowish tint to it(probably just how it is for the screen this model has)
I'm about to rma for refund

I'm still quite doubtful about this laptop's size. As I'm a computer engineering student I'm coding a lot (especially on Linux), so I'll need something comfortable to type on and also a nice screen. So I'm quite concerned about:
- Screen: As I can't get to see one by myself, I have to look at laptops with similar screens. So far the smallest text setting on a rMBP 13'' is readable for me. I also saw in a store a Samsung 13'' ultrabook (I don't remember the model) with a 1080p screen and it looked nice, but it surely had scaling on. I'm still wondering how well things are readable with scaling disabled, as hidpi support on Linux is not perfect.
- Size: I saw a lot of pics and videos about this laptop and IMO it looks quite small when actually it is a little bit bigger than a rMBP 13'', at least comparing width and depth (330 x 227mm vs 314 x 219mm). I'm guessing the small touchpad is giving that feeling to me. So how is it comfortable to work and type on for extended periods of time? -
I had a W230ST for about a year and it was my primary computer. It is great for typing for extended periods. As far as font scaling, that's a personal preference. I'm fine with 100% scaling, any scaling problems is an issue with Windows and the apps that are run. I now have a W230SS and still a great machine.
Nice! Where'd you manage to get that? Looks like it was made from the same tools that made the original. -
I got a message from Xotic PC / Sager saying that the buzzing hard drive sound is normal.
-
1) I do coding on this laptop with 100% scale and sometimes it requires me to bend my back slightly to get the comfortable view of the text.
This is how it looks like when everything is scale to 100%
2) I carried this laptop with me sometimes, and this laptop slides inside my bag seamlessly. Despite it's size, I feel that this laptop is a bit heavy considering that it is faster than my 3 year old gaming rig.
3) Typing on this laptop is better than most other laptop. I like how they placed the end key beside the arrow key. It has that tactile bump and a slight clicky noise which is not loud. -

Thinking about changing the memory from 2x4GB 1600MHz DDR3 Crucial (which I ordered at Schenkers homepage when I bought the computer) to 2x8GB 1866MHz DD3L Corsair Vengeance. Not doing it so much for the added memory but more for having DD3L and 1866MHz. Will this make overclocking it easier (will use PREMA BIOS)? Is there any way to tell how much performance I will gain by simply changing RAM or what a overclock might add in terms of performance? I haven't overclocked in a LONG while so I am not updated at all but the thing I remember is that you can either change the multiplier (if the CPU has it unlocked i.e. Haswell "K" CPU:s for desktop) which only changes the CPU frequency or/and change the FSB which basically overclocks everything including the CPU on the computer (including RAM).
Now this can of course been changed but RAM operating in higher frequency should be a good investment for overclocking, that much I remember.
My question is more about performance gains by using 1866MHz DDR3L vs. 1600MHz DDR3 without doing anything else and if it will help overclocking and if somebody could tell me if it would be a worthwhile investment rather then the question how to overclock it (that comes later and I'll read earlier threads and posts about this first ofc).
Edit: Hmm..
Also been looking at the G.SKILL F3-1866C11D-8GRSL (2x4GB 1866MHz DDR3L). That kit costs around $116 and the Corsair Vengeance CMSX16GX3M2B1866C10 (2x8GB 1866MHz DDR3L) costs around $219. Around twice the cost for 16GB vs 8GB and don't know if its a waste to buy 8GB or not when you are upgrading. If I were to need 16GB in the future I would need to sell the new DD3L RAM and buy another kit. This would only be for gaming so I guess anything above 8GB would be a waste... -

Anyone know the gamut NTSC % on this machine display ? I am curious because I can't find nothing in the reviews.

Any reason anyone is getting the i5-4200m over the i7-4700qm or even the i7-4800qm?

Quick question for those of you who opted for the 4810-MQ and are undervolting/underclocking: what settings have you found to be your sweet spot? -

It indicates it as a 72% gamut, which is believable.
This keeps my machine cool and still manages anything I throw at it. When I go to encode a video I switch it to 40/39/38/38 and let it do its thing, then switch back.Larry@LPC-Digital likes this. -
Just ordered a Crucial M500 240GB mSATA Internal Solid State Drive from Amazon along with a wired XBOX controller. After an entire semester of ridiculous hard work, I can't wait to play some bad video games
P. S. Should I invest in a cooling fan or a flat surface should be suffice? -
HTWingNut - Could you upload a picture of your XTU settings?
Btw. what is your Gtx 860 Overclock ? I can reach stable +280 on core and only +130 on memory [ I think prema managed to get +600 on memory and I have no idea how is it even possible] So final clocks for me are 1380 on core with turbo boost and 5260 for memory.
-
I use the CoolerMaster Notepal U2 Plus which is a perfect fit for this laptop, the fans seems to have given up even though its new so I might RMA it and try another one (I hear sort of a "rasping" sound sometimes coming from the fans of the cooling pad). But its small and fits the laptop perfectly and you can adjust the fans where you need 'em. -
This is the third person to complain of this issue (I was the first), but the second person didn't reply if what I suggested fixed the issue or not. So it would be good to get some feedback YChai.
