i have a dual core laptop, but hardly use it because i was too lazy to compile the kernel along with everythign else on it. so i guess that means its a tie. lol

Actually I transplanted the BOE-Hydis HV121WX6 (12.1" 1280x800) into my X200 tablet and I can confirm that the screen uses a LVDS connector.
It's also one of the most beautiful IPS screens I have ever seen. Maybe mythologic can further investigate the possibility for us ? Here is the specs sheet with the connector diagram:
    http://beck-oled-lcd-tft-display.de/fileadmin/hydis/HV121WX6-100.pdf
Since this is also LVDS, it will be as simple as switching the signal line to match the diagram.

Well considering that it's a different size and aspect ratio, swapping the screen would also require modifications to the bezel. I doubt it will be viable.

Yeah, that would be something that the end users cannot do but I am sure OEM vendor like mythologic might be able to do. They can try to retrofit then mass order custom bezel to accommodate the new screen. I don't mind shelling out a bit for a good screen. Once you go IPS, you can never go back. Even the Vaio Z2 screen is not good enough for me.

Is it possibly to manually turn off cores? Suppose when you are gaming you just enable 2 cores + GPU. When you are compiling something have 4 core + no gpu. Otherwise I don't see how that heat-sink can dissipate 80watts+.

It's 11,5mm higher and 3mm thicker...at least the thickness will be an issue as the W110 screen is just 3.6mm thick...

Yeah I am aware of that but doesn't the Clevo W110ER has quite some clearance ? Most of these laptop has thick bezel anyway so maybe it can be modified a bit to accommodate this panel. If I have all the equipments, I would have tried out this mod but it would be easier for OEM company like mythlogic to try it out and report back to us. I am sure they have all the engineers and equipment ready anyway.

It does. No worries. Not to say temps won't get a bit toasty, but it's designed to dissipate that heat.

Thanks, but how can it be USB-based if it's an internal mPCIE-card? I thought it would be powered directly from the motherboard? We are talking about the same thing here, right? :p
So SIM-card readers don't come included in the WWAN cards?

I would wait for the matte 1920 x 1080 IPS 11.6-inch screen Asus plans to have this summer:
Asus UX21A and UX31A laptops appear in public, dubbed Zenbook Prime | The Verge
If Mytholgic or Xotic could get their hands on these it would be awsome and I'd buy it in a second

No, but I was assured, though not guaranteed, that I'll get it on or before the 15th.

Higher resolution would be great and all, but on an 11.6"? I think 720 looks beautiful already, but more? And the GPU we would need if we wanted to have games looks nice.

Just ordered mine from Xoticpc! Who would have thunk that you could get an 11.6" laptop with a 3610qm, GT 650m, and 8 gigs of RAM for less than a thousand?! I noticed Origin PC has one for sale with a custom lid. Any thoughts on being able to get one of those? They are pretty gaudy but the brandless NP6110 can look a bit bland...

I think we all have a miss estimation of the size of these companies. I was doing some background research into them before I chose to go with Mythlogic and one of the things I found was this news report: Computer service company Mythlogic opens up shop in downtown Ann Arbor the Jeff and Josh everyone seems to end up talking to are two of the co-owners. That type of flat employee model makes me think they likely have less then three dozen employees.

    1366x768 on a 11.6 is 135 pixels per inch
    1444x900 on a 13.3 is 128 pixels per inch(MPA)
    1600x900 on a 13.1 is 140 pixels per inch(Vaio Z)
    1920x1080 on a 15.6 is 141 pixels per inch
    1920x1080 on a 17.0 is 130 pixels per inch
    1920x1080 on a 23.0 is 96 pixels per inch
    2560x1440 on a 27.0 ix 109 pixels per inch.

1600x900 on a 11.6 is 158 pixels per inch! If you want to play around and see what the ppi is on various configurations this page automates the calculation.

I agree 900p would be nice from the perspective of fitting more on the screen while doing things but from the PPI numbers we're already doing pretty well.

Are serious? That's the reason I ordered from them!!! :)
I bought from the bigger players before, but every single question I ask my "life time personal contact" (which btw changed three times in three months) it was like:

"OK I forwarded our conversation to the technical department; I have yet to hear back from them..."

"YES, I passed the information to our payment section, awaiting their response"

HIM:"Ya, I have passed on your designs for your custom paint job, expecting their ideas very soon"
ME: "May I talk to the artis, to explain him my vision?"
HIM: "No we are very sorry that is not possible"

"Sir, I have included the RMA section into our conversation"

    OR:

HIM: "I am very sorry we can't do that"
Me: "Are you sure, who is making the decisions in your company?"
HIM: "I may have to ask my supervisor"
    ME: "Then do that, please"
HIM:"HE hasn't gotten back to me, yet"
    ME: "..."
HIM: "Good news, it is possible"

Every single request took like forever and you could not get to talk to any technical person directly.

On the other hand I simply love to deal with Myth:

He's has an engineering degree and answers technical questions directly on the very same day, he knows what's going on in sales, he can get you special parts, goes to conferences to be up to date of what is next on the market and also goes out of his way to try new stuff. They even helped one guy on the forums to get his Notebook repaired under warranty, because the company he bought from where no longer in business.

I wouldn't even care if he's the only guy working there.
They absolutely earned my business!!!

omg, 11.6 IPS display i dont know if i can wait any longer but yeah, mostly the biggest gripe people have with this laptop is the lcd, and june is just that far away but not that far away that i dont know if i should wait or not........... plus i still dont have all my money together but yeah......

is the ips display even the right connection??? we dont know.... and is it even available for OEM purchases??? i mean im sure later on people can just buy the screen out right from ebay or alike and try their own transplant but im hoping for xoticpc, or someone similiar to try this on their own, im pretty sure many people would buy in to the IPS 1080 for like an extra 100+$

edit: im talking about the asus zenbook prime 11.6 and 13 in, both which come with an IPS 1080 display configuration http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/25/asus-zenbook-refresh-1080p-ips-ivy-bridge/

SIM Card readers are not part of WWAN cards, also mPCIE slots can be wired for many different standards PCIE, USB, SATA etc etc. mPCIE is really a size not a connection type :)

Ugh If I was the only person working there I would have even less time to post on this here forum... :p

Ugh, I'm torn between lightweight and gaming performance..

Trying to choose between this and the MSI GT60, which has a 15.6" screen and a GTX670M...all the other specs are similar, same CPU, memory, different keyboard though. The sager is about $200 less too.

Also want to use it for software development, which is where the MSI leads with a good keyboard.

Got a look at different 11'6 laptops and i gotta say the size is just ample! Earlier I thought that 11'6 would simply be uncomfortable for me since I am used/currently using a 13.3 laptop. Safe to say today I realized w110 is simply a power house to have.

Was browsing NBR and saw a owners thread of the w150ERQ/5165/6165 and this guy reviewing it said that somehow optimus is giving more problems than solutions because it does not switch accordingly when playing games, only using the integrated chip.Take note this laptop(6165) has a switch at the upper left to control which card you plan on using basically a lock for using the integrated and dedicated and it is somehow not working accordingly that is why i think this would be better size+power(gt650)+battery+/- on how the switching of cards(hope its a + so that I can order it asap). This laptop has no switch so we basically will be under optimus(i am i right? or are there ways to by pass/ not use optimus and use the dedicated graphics card 650m all the time?) another concern i have of course, I am waiting for how it performs running graphic intensive games like battlefield and see if it has no heating issues at all.If all of this goes to my plan then i guess there will be no reason for me not to get this baby.

Btw was not planning to get a copy of windows and wanted to do things myself. question, when i install windows using an external cd-drive i just plug it in(my cd drive in the usb) and load windows in my drive and the laptop should be able to read it and install it from there? sorry i am really a noob and have no experience on how to install an os on a laptop without a cd-drive :))
Aside from xoticpc where can i find a very cheap base model? i only plan on adding the thermal compound and ivb(if it is available for this model).TOTAL FOR XOTICPC w110+i7+thermalcompound 915$.

Actually it's not a barebones. It's a full fledged laptop, you just need to add the OS. 8gb Ram/500gb 7200 rpm drive for $800. No idea how you got 500 from what I posted.

"Xoticpc has it for the same price WITH an I5 chip. Can't beat the price"

so i just assumed u found a barebones with an i5 for 500$ on xoticpc... nvm then haha

FYI, and this may not be news, but I got an email from RJTech that they can't put a Killer-N 1103 in it because it only has two antenna wires in it. I told them to ship it without wireless and I bought an 1102 to put in it instead.

I've got two questions I'm hoping the resellers (or anyone) can answer:

    1) Will the Sandy Bridge dual core still be an option for customizing this laptop from Xoticpc or Mythlogic whenever the Ivy Bridge dual core arrive (June)?

    2) If that is the case, what will the approximate price difference be between the Ivy dual core and the current Sandy Bridge dual core?

The reason I ask is I don't believe I'll need a quad core for what I want to do, and if the Ivy dual core aren't a huge performance improvement, and/or are significantly more expensive than the Sandy Bridge dual core, I will just get the laptop now now now rather than having to wait a month and a half...

Gah...you are right...I completely misread the RJ TEch ad.

I didn't see the price @ RJ Tech...I thought it was $800 for the barebones but that is also a prebuilt one there. Looks like it's the same price there.

$500 eh? Interesting, i already have spare ram and a HD.

Ok, I thought mPCIE was the laptop equivalent of the PCI-Express connections found on desktop motherboards. Aren't all the USB-ports already used externally (the ones poking out of the chassis)? What type of connections that are applicable to WWAN cards are available inside the W110ER? And how are SIM-card readers connected? If I'd connect the WWAN card internally (instead of the original network card), where would the SIM-card reader be connected? Thanks for putting up with me! :)

I think i've done my homework, but I think xotic pc and lpc-digital have the same specs for the same money +/- a few dollars. Does anyone have any opinions about either company? rjtech is a little more expensive, but i can buy it more stripped down... I'm going to try looking into maybe buying the cheapest options from rj and just putting in my own hardware?

im pretty sure u can pm any of the resellers, they can configure the laptop to what u want? for example i want it with just the cpu in there, everything else i will add later, for that im getting like -60$ for the hdd, -40$ for the ram as such.

so i dont think buying barebones is really necessary unless u already have a cpu somehow lying around somewhere. because buying the cpu OEM is what pushes a barebone build to cost more than a pre-made 90% of the time.

at least for xotipc, they let me order the laptop minus the parts i already have and just deduct accordingly, sorry if i explained it twice.

isn't it up to the model? like I asked them before about the Sager one and they told me that they can't remove the hdd or RAM because those come together with the laptop from sager. But if you buy the xoticpc model using the MSI barebones then they can do that because they custom-build the laptop themselves

We'll have the dual core IVB as soon as they are made avalaiable. For price, we're predicting they'll be the same price as their brethren SandyBridge, but thats all a prediction.

Nope mPCIE are much more flexible in their use. So you can have a mPCIE slot thats only USB, in fact thats how traditional WWAN cards are used so that they don't have to redesign for dongles and cards, its all the same.

SIM card readers are typically on the motherboard, and if you don't have one you will have to find a WWAN card that either has a SIM reader built onto it, OR doesn't need a SIM (CDMA)

    thanks
