I was stuck on 418.81 as well, removed it with DDU and installed the latest drivers. Had to install the DCH drivers and not the standard ones though. Even after DDU in safe mode, standard drivers would not install.

Thanks For help! -
This sounds like a poor application of thermal paste. Or perhaps the CPU heatsink does not apply proper pressure evenly. You need to check that out, either yourself or ask your reseller.
Here's the video of same model with 2060 GPU, he didn't test Metro but you can see that his CPU never reached 100C in games like Watch Dogs 2 or other benchmarks even at stock voltage:
Try using same games he used for temperature test and compare results.Last edited by a moderator: Mar 28, 2019 -
@Nitesh27 I would contact @GenTechPC to help diagnose what’s wrong with the thermal upgrades. This laptop cools really well stock, given the feedback provided by the community.

Anyone flashed a 90w bios to the 2080 version? How does it compare to an RTX 2070 Max P?
-
-
I don't believe anyone has
Ive seen people flash the 2070 90w and the 2070 max p
But I don't actually see a 2080
That would be cool to share. Remember the 90w90w version is coming from an asus or razer so its not clevo.
Id like to see the 2070 max pclevo vbios or 2080 also -
Actually they have
While it should be thr same as whats on notebookcheck there's something about the power setting adding more to the gpu but not to the total tdp of the laptop that makes it not change too much yet.
It was 5 percent faster stock 10 percent faster overclocked which doesnt correspond to the clock change
Some gamer will figure out why
But on the other hand it totally works its the same device exactly in the razer as the msi stealth here. Check if the clevo is the same device and it's good to go.
This article has the nvflash and both roms
Doubke check your device id is the same as the razer and id feel confident at that point its no different than a bios upgrade Id expect the same results right? Whats different about a p960 to a msi gs65? Maybe something though hope someone else tries
The clock difference is 35 percentLast edited: Apr 1, 2019 -

Actual clocks are going to track power pretty closely. Monitor your average clocks over a benchmark/game and you will see.

When you look at the heat synch of our machines and compare it to the previous p950( not the new p955 which is also like ours should be included here with us)
And Also the cooling of the msi gs series
Is a heat pipe connecting the heat synch of the cpu and gpu
Orignally this concept was to seperate them . can you think of any thermogenic reason to connect them?
Msi stealth are also 2 fans gpu 1 fan cpu this series borrows heavily from their design -

Individual loading and idle temps improve by linking them.

The scores on this 2080mq are decent: fire strike graphics 21k+, with 8k+ on TimeSpy. -
When I restarted the bios hung for about 10 minutes but did finally boot. GPU-Z did show the change but the clock would not boost (stuck at stock for 90w which I think was around 1035MHz?).
I was able to flash my backup back to the GPU so no harm done really, so if you want to experiment ymmv...
Best results I have gotten is to mess with the clock/voltage curve in Afterburner. I was able to basically apply a +150MHz overclock with a max clock frequency of 1650 MHz. This keeps the GPU from temporarily boosting above its limits which seems to cause the TDP to kick in hard.
The trick to this is to go into the configuration file of Afterburner and set the range for the voltage in the curve down to 700mV iirc since it defaults to something like 900mV which is already above where your TDP limit would be kicking in. -
dangerous 2070 vbios from razer maxq and tongfang 2070 max p never been tried nvflash with back up etc whoever feels brave

On a fully integrated board yes you have tighter controls on total power.
-
Plus 163 and plus 600 Meaning I let the curve stay the same the score went down ubdervolting
The firestrike score is 18800 its a record.
But same gpu in a tongfang got to 19500( not exciting) with the vbios flash to 90w.
I think maxq needs someone to really apply themselves to tuning -

How does having a 16.1" laptop compare to a 17.3" and 15.6"? Seems like the perfect sweet spot between portability and size for cooling but finding a replacement screen could be hard...

Can anyone comment on how bad the noise is compared to an older Clevo model?Last edited: Apr 6, 2019 -
I could actually use some input from you guys.
I'm considering buying the model with either RTX 2070 max-Q or 2080 max-Q, the dilemma is this:
There is a local Danish reseller of the 960EF. For the price of about 17.000dkr, I can have it with the 1TB Samsung Evo SSD that i really want :
https://sharkgaming.dk/shark-gaming-4g16-70/
For the same price, PC Specialist will sell the 960EN with the RTX 2080. Now, this means importing from another country, with all the trouble any RMA will entail and not having Danish consumer protection. On the other hand, they will add a Scandinavian keyboard, nå prøblæm.
https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/notebooks/defianceV-rtx-15/
Now the thing is, is the upgrade worth the extra hassle and uncertainty regarding support importing from another country should something go wrong? What would you guys do? Something something brexit?stamar likes this. -

There is also Brexit to think about.
Have you thought about adding the SSD yourself? Have you checked what kind of price you are getting on it? -
Just got my p960ed from hidevo and the thing sounds like a ****ing jet engine when just idling on the bios screen this cannot be normal behavior right? I had the liquid metal+fujipoly put in and I can't imagine what the **** is causing so much heat on a damn bios screen. If this is normal behavior then whoever thought this was a good idea should be fired, as the GPU shouldn't even be really running at all or at least at it's lowest clocks.
Ffs even memtest is causing the jet engine sound. That thing doesn't even use the gpu -
Liquid metal is not a good idea for laptops which have a chance of having uneven surface of heatsink. Much better to use high viscosity thermal paste, especially for long term. That said, you should check your CPU temp first, it might be fine and there might be something wrong with fans or fan controller.
-
You're right youre describing the gpu as being hot but its not being used at all in what you described so whatever is going on is serious as can be don't even turn it on.
-
I know when I got mine from sager thebprice difference was 600
Because sager discounts theb2070 max q
I can't see any 600 dollar difference because they are both 8bgb 256 bit interface chips .
But if it was the original 350 difference maybe . its definitely worth something if you pick what its worth to you still honestly being unknown then you can decide.
Like lets say... 200 it's definitely worth 200 USD itbwould bebfor me
300 maybe I'll say 300 tops -
After spending a decent amount of time with my laptop now, have literally never seen the GPU go above 80. The CPU though, that thing runs hot. I had Kryonaut on mine applied at the reseller, but it still hits 98C even undervolted when I'm running benchmarks. Either there's wild variance on thermal output on these 8750Hs or something's off with the thermal solution on my CPU. Unfortunately I'm based away from the country where I bought the laptop, so it'll be some time before I can return to the reseller for a repaste. I'm not entirely confident in reapplying the paste myself, but I expect I'll want to do it at some point. -
The temps in memtest for at least the CPU show that it's running way too damn hot. I have conductuant which is liquid metal, so I expected it to run better, plus the fans are not running 24/7 it's not on when it first boots up it's only after ~3s that it starts running and keeps going above that. If that's true about the 8750Hs then I don't know why they were even used. It makes literally zero sense for a CPU that's going to be getting close to 100*C during benchmarks zero literal sense.
-
If you have poor contact between heatsink and CPU (for example the surface of heatsink is not flat or the mounting pressure is not equal on all sides) - the temps will always be very high no matter what you will do or which CPU you will use. Even with liquid metal - the LM may simply leak out or become pumped out by heatsink. So check that first, if you can't do that by yourself - contact the seller who sold it to you.
-
My 8750 runs at 50c through the 100 percent occt test

The price of the SSD isn't that different for Shark Gaming and PC Specialist, the real difference is that they offer the same model with a 2080 instead for the same price. I probably will go for Shark Gaming,
It's a damn shame MM vision hasn't added some new Clevo/Sager laptops to their repertoire, they tended to be cheaper than Shark Gaming.Last edited: Apr 7, 2019 -

It is nice to have in country support.
-
I'm going to regret this when some issue pops up 1 month < after I buy it due to Denmark having better basic warranty and Brexit being a *****.
That said, seems PC Specialist has a pretty good reputation and they've really set their website up well for European business. I'm greeted with automatic Danish keyboard selected and information about shipping to Denmark. -
theres a new model on sagers si it dteoesnt have an owners group.
I honestly forgot the clevo model. its a 15 inch with 2060 for 1199.
It is half a pound heavier more plastic same hardware -

Can anyone tell me the model of their panel? Cant seem to find any 16.1 inch screens...
-
Chimei CMN1602.
Can someone explain the logic of the 2070MQ model or the 2070 MQ overall? It seems to fit the same laptops as a regular laptop RTX 2060, use the same power, but cost way more? -
Is there any anticipation of a 9th gen i7 refresh on this model? I was torn between this model and a similarly specc'd Lenovo Legion Y740 (or waiting to see the y540's specifics) but I've sold myself on this one I think. Replacing my P650RE3 which recently stopped charging
-
Well if there is a 9th gen CPU clevo would reach the market quicker than. Lenovo
-
That's what I figured; If Clevo were to deliver a similar config to the 960ED with the 9th gen i7 I would probably wait for that over buying the ED.

At the end of the day I would still say the 2060 models is best value by far. The video also seems to agree with that. -
I tend to trust individual tests such as in video which are taken at the same time using same exact hardware (even same exact RAM) more than Notebookcheck's pile of data from different models with different hardware (such as different RAM), different driver versions and benchmarked on different days at different ambient temps ;-)
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
You would need to compare in the same machine with the same hardware. For the same power you get performance between the full 2060 and 2070. Larger chips can clock lower at lower voltages but cost more to produce.
-
Hey all, could I verify if P960 models come with Synaptics trackpad options? I don't have the traditional Synaptics options available unlike older Clevo models, it just shows up as a generic device.

I believe they use the windows precision drivers.
