    Hello,
I'm new to the forum and would like to upgrade my p870tm-gs Notebook.
Got it from ebay and wanted to upgrade to a I9 9900K and a RTX 2080.

Since i dont know anything about bios updating and probably flashing i thought it would be better to ask around here. I havent found anything about this model supporting that kind of upgrade. I know that the P775TM1 is supporting it without flashing the bios.

I also would like to know the diffrence between the p870tm, p870tm1 p870tm-gs and the p870tm-r.
Would be nice if someone could help me with it, dont wanna rush it and brick the machine.

    thank you

I would wait and see whether the 30x0 cards are compatible, since you will be doing driver mods either way.

hey guys, do's someone know what is the width of the thermal pad for the cooling system for GPU and CPU, and if somebody has an idea for the free space in betwen radiator to cooler ? and what thermal pad is best for this system?

I've always used a set of 0.5mm, 1mm and 1.5mm pads and eyeballed it to get the perfect fit (stack where necessary) thermal grizzly pads worked well.

0.5mm and 1mm is a solid way to have everything fit, one thing to keep in mind is the hardness (shore), fujipoly tend to be much harder but offer superior thermal caabilities. But that doesn't help much if you don't get any contact between surfaces :)

Aluminium tape used to seal air ducts, its common in hardware stores, a bit expensive, but its the best thing to seal those gaps.

Hello Everyone, Posting after a while. While everything else is ok with my machine the nvidia 2080rtx is still not that stable. Of late the system was crashing often with bsods and whea errors. My current driver is DCH 452.06 and am not sure if it is very stable. Can anyone who has actually installed a new driver on this laptop with rtx2080 tell me the latest stable driver and also the exact steps to install.

In the past I tried to install a driver from the premamod site but even after trying quite a few times and spending a week on it, it didn't install so I then went for installing the driver after downloading from nvidia site. So if there is a better method available can someone please advice

After a lot of reading about mods for the cooling I liked one with the additional cooler for cpu.

Due to the fact, that there's no metal connecting plate for vapor chamber to cpu heatsink, like it was on p870km vapor, to increase total thermal capacity of cooling system, Temps for 9900k are a bit of pain and constant high cpu rpm is annoying..

Have someone figured the best fitting additonal cpu cooler? What is part number or at least from which laptop can I get it?

The reversed pins and 5v voltage is well noted, though)

So the only retailer doing modifications to accommodate the vaporchamber a 2080 in P870 is HID, you can reach out to them and ask. The DIY users who have done the mod likely grabbed some 0.5mm and 1mm pads and stacked where necessary.

What were the stock pads on single 115w heatsink - 0.5 or 1mm?

I have got mine from eurocom, and from all the looks of it - they just used stock pads..

Looked like 1mm pads, however I may be wrong. I used 1mm on t-shaped modded heatsink for memory and others - stock

Any info on p/n of the additional cooler used for cpu 5v pin?

As long as it's 5v and ~60mm, and you need to wire it up correctly. HY60Q05AP or BSB05505HP-SM.

I recently pulled a 70mm 5v fan out of an old Hp laptop and threw it into the machine, it does perform better in terms of cooling due to bigger size and more blades. However, since it's 70mm and the radiator is 60mm, I blocked off a part of it to increase the pressure.

We hadn’t this luxury the first years with DM1 :) Only the old school cmos battery swap and the legendary KB tape mod :D + the old Dm1 board was more picky on ram oc’ing.

Guys, how do i differ the g-sync enabled RTX2080 card from non g-sync card on these machines?

I have one and have no idea if it is g-sync enabled and would like to avoid hassle of disassembling two laptops to switch displays, cards and bioses in order to find out)

    Maybe anyone can elaborate?

So far only difference i have found is vbios version difference of the cards, which were supplied with non g-sync LCD displays - "90.04.3b.00.79" VS "90.04.3b.00.7A"

The last letter being "A" is for supposedly g-sync enabled RTX2080 systems.. However havent seen even a single one p870tm1 with g-sync actually working.. Correct me if i am wrong)

By the way, can someone guide me a little bit at shunt modding of RTX2080? Which resistors should i order?

I haven't seen any power modded mxm 2080 here, but you would need to either short or mod the two resistors labeled RS1 & RS2 on the top back of the card. I don't recall their resistance.

Hi please correct me if I am wrong I have noticed that with this heatsink
P870DM2 6-31-P872N-401 and a RTX 2070 you don't need to modify the heatsink for the 2070 as it does not have the chip let's like the 2080 on the bottom right
