If you were doing highly threaded workloads then yes it was always better to go for the fat HEDT series CPUs. The equation for most users is not impacted by such high core counts however.

    Hi there,

I'm the lucky owner of the P870KM1-G, bought my unit some weeks ago from the Prema Partner Dream Machines as a custom configuration off their standard specs. Making a deal with them was a real pleasure, they put in my CPU I got directly from Silicon Lottery and let laser engraving my local keyboard characters as Clevo would produce it with minimum of 200 pieces to be taken :(.

This is my first Clevo notebook and I'm really enjoying it, nevertheless I have few issues / questions I account to my newbieness.
    1. I'm not able to switch on the keyboard light using the Flexikey or keyboard shortcuts (Fn/, Fn*...). The top cover lights work as expected, I have the most recent CCC 5.1.1.17 (updated through the Obsidian tools). The Flexikey has word OFF on surrounded by the color selection of the keyboard light. Also instead of Add/Delete/Import/Export profile there are texts ABCDEFGHIJ, only when hovering a mouse over them the context buble above shows the proper texts.
    2. After complete power off my notebook still draws about 55-60 watts - the reading comes from the Eurocom 780W powerbrick. One night I left the powerbrick off and until morning the notebook had eaten about 15-20% of the battery so it is clear the notebook consumes something while being completely off (2.2-2.3 Ampers). When the turned-off notebook is kept on the PSU the lights are green (battery) and orange (powerplug). Bios settings Flexcharger has no influence on the behaviour in either settings.
    3. Sometimes when the computer boots up and I use my fingerprint the built in keyboard is not activated at all unless I push for instance caps lock. The caps indicator light gets on and since then I may type. To be clear I use the fingerprint always to logon, however the issue happens only sometimes.
    4. My config is the 1080 SLI and I asked my reseller for the air circulation mod of the bottom cover as shown on the HIDevolution video (T = 5:10)

however they responded this is not in the factory service manual and would void a warranty. So I'd like to ask, if there are some measurable benefits in temps of this mod and from where I may buy a new virgin bottom cover just for case I'd have to RMA.
    5. I bought my notebook including the both Prema bios and Vbios options, but according to information from my reseller and here in the forum none of them is ready yet. When they might be anticipated to be finished? Or is there a probability the OEM ones are so crippled that Prema won't be able to make his improving modifications of them at all (I'm crossing fingers it won't happen)?

Thank to you all in this community, your dedication and knowledge is inspiring :bigwink:

And I expect you have turned off Fast startup (aka: hybrid boot or hybrid shutdown). No need for this crap if you use ssd.

Yes, I unclicked that one as well as switched off the Defragmentation during my first logon. To be sure I doublechecked now - the fast startup is switched-off (unclicked).

I don't know if it may have some influence or not - I updated W10 to 1703 right after that, because I got used on other PCs with the blue light night filter and also I never experienced issues when early upgrading to new releases of W10 (November, Anniversary, Creators - no preview builds, just ordinary) on 5-6 PCs within our family.

I would recommend a clean new OS install. Although a lot don't experience problems with only upgrade. At least you can rule out OS problems.

    where do you live?

if you live in the countries that are covered by dell's premium warranty, better go with alienware (buy from dell) and you can end up with a much cheaper machine 7820HK/1080

Well you can go with the Alienware regardless, just don't forget to reship it from a tax free state such as Oregon or New Hampshire.

I really don't recommend the KM1 unless you are willing to put up with Clevo's problems. The Alienware 17R4 in comparison has much less troubles.

bios lacking important overclocking options, power limitation that doesn't make sense. you would need prema bios but that isn't out for km1 yet

the control center software, you need an xtu-less version obtainable by obsidian tool: http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/clevo-drivers-update-utility-by-obsidian-pc.801464/

xtu will mess up your bios settings, need to pull out coin cell battery to reset

clevo is slow in making new bios, sometime they don't make new bios at all when a new model is released (ie: dm3 is now EOL)

build quality is also much less than the 17r4 (I own both km1 and a 17r4 right now)

P870KM1 needs some fine tuning but otherwise is very good build machine. There is already unlocked BIOS in testing. Check with [email protected] for details.

the newest batch have good temps, they're not using the best paste that would allow you to overclock extreme, but enough to maybe get you 3.9/4ghz daily (conservative estimate)

    stock temp is also good

Noted, thanks for the heads up.

    is this prema bios?

the tripod heatsink has good tolerance now, and the thermal paste have improved
ssd lottery, true, you should never accept a toshiba unit and continually complain about noise and crash using the toshiba ssd
pch temp, fixable by a simple mod

I'm definitely not a computer expert, butI would stay far away from an Alienware computer, or any computer that you can't change parts out. I saw an Alienware mother board and had to ask the guys on the forum what it was. I thought it was a huge video card. Stick with the KM1, the Prema bios will be done soon., then You'll have a beast. Long live the DTR

I'm almost positive the @Prema Bios isn't up and running for the KM1 yet. But even worse, I'm also almost 100% positive that the only way to get a Prema Bios is through a Prema Partner shop. HID, Eurocom, etc. I don't think Prema sells his bios to individuals. Sorry bud, that blows

Guys I'm sorry if this is a dumb question, but I tried googling the answer and found nothing that matched... Is there a manual floating around for the Clevo Control Center? I am playing with my voltage using the CCC and I am good with undervolting the CPU but for the GPU is the options only for overclocking? What if any program do you use to adjust the voltage of the GPUs? I have tried afterburner but it doesn't allow me to change any settings (I made sure to unlock it in the settings) Any help would be appreciated !

I did another experiment - I disconnected the computer from the PSU. The PSU shows withdrawing the same amout of Watts even after physical disconnect. Is that normal for the Eurocom 780W PSUs? Should I RMA my PSU?

I don't think these around 55 Watts are some kind of offset, because current readings when I write this are 74-78W and I don't believe P870 withdraws just 20W. Hwinfo shows CPU 13W getting, GPU0 9W and GPU1 13W - totaling about 35W + other notebook components up and running.

As a next eperiment I will measure again if the notebook eats some battery while being off and disconnected from the PSU (or PSU being shut-off by it's switch).

I don't think you can mess around with the voltage of the Clevo cards until the Vbios is unlocked. The only thing you can do is through the CCC, you can play around with the core and memory. Either over clock or under clock, but not the voltage.

I have a question about the AC adapters. Recently I've been playing some games with the SLI enabled on my 1080s, Each time both adapters will just shut off. After many times of replugging it back into the socket, it will work for a 5 seconds, and then go off again. The adapters never turn off if i'm not gaming. Got any ideas why? Faulty adapters? or what?

measure the wattage of the plug that feeds both power adapters and then each of them individualy. See if one takes more load than the other, there may be a faulty one.

    My details in the ThunderBolt software window states that I have all the latest ThunderBolt drivers installed except for these 2;

    "controller driver version: UNKNOWN"
    "Networking driver version: UNKNOWN"

Can someone help me install the controller and networking driver please. I am trying to use the "ThunderBolt3 to dual DisplayPort adapter" but it is not appearing on the "attached devices" box in the ThunderBolt software program.

WIll need to check with your reseller. And for obvious reasons do not try flashing / updating using firmwares meant for other systems, even though in most cases there are system checks.

Does anyone know if one G-sync monitor will work with another 2 same monitors (but without G-sync enabled) in Nvidia Surround setup? I need to know this please, before purchasing my third Acer predator XB271HUA monitor.

And by the way; I have now sorted out the Thunderbolt3 controller issue. I have rolled back the ThunderBolt3 drivers and software and the ThunderBolt controller is on the "device manger" in Windows 10. It looks to be all working and the ThunderBolt software has now detected the "StarTech ThunderBolt3 to dual DisplayPort adapter part# TB32DP2".... So it all looks good! I'm going back to testing :) cheers guys

Thanks for posting about this, I seem to be having similar issue. I am using a USB-C to HDMI adapter to connect to an external display however I am unable to get a video signal. I get the same error messages in the thunderbolt software where it says controller driver unknown. I have tried rolling back the drivers to original with my reseller and that didn't solve it. I think it could be one of two things either the USB-C to HDMI adapter just does not want to work with my thunderbolt port (even though it worked fine on my previous MSI GT73VR laptop) or I am still having issues with the software.

Can you further elaborate on the steps that you took to fix this? Which driver version did you revert back to same for the software version etc.

Sorry I did not technically roll-back the ThunderBolt3 device driver through "device manager". I used Windows 10 Pro System Restore option to roll it back, which re-installed the first ThunderBolt3 driver which came with my laptop on USB which I installed when I first received the laptop. After that my adapter shows up with a tick mark on "Manage Approved Devices" on the "ThunderBolt software.

My details through the "ThunderBolt Settings" are:

    ThunderBolt Software
    Software Package Version: 16.2.52.250
    Application Version: 16.2.51.18
    Software Version: 16.2.52.3
    Controller Version: 16.2.51.2
    Networking Driver Version: Unknown

    ThunderBolt Controller:
    ThunderBolt Generation: ThunderBolt 3 (15D2)
    Number Of Parts: 2
    Security Level: No security (SL0)
    NVM Firmware Version: 12.00
    PD Firmware Version: 1.07.06
    External GPUs Supported: Yes

Also in the BIOS my ThunderBolt is set to "enabled" and the security option is set to "Legacy" but I don't think this will be the problem.

By the way; soon I will upload a MST adapter tests here. I have bought some adapters to try out on the P870KM1-G to see what the max refresh rate is, how the DDI splits through the adapters and to see if G-sync/ULMB NVidia Surround can be done in different ways. One of them includes a “Plugable Thunderbolt3 to dual HDMI adapter" ( http://plugable.com/products/tbt3-hdmi2x/ ) and this works with either 1x DDI to ThunderBolt3 port or 2x DDI to ThunderBolt3 ports, but the adapter does not split one DDI to two HDMI monitors (like the mini DisplayPorts), you need to enable 2x DDI to ThunderBolt3 port for the adapter to fully function. But please note this adapter started to smoke!! so I unplugged it and left it for another day of stress testing before I upload the report. I have tried an non active adapter too. A USB-C to DisplayPort adapter and this worked at 1440P@165Hz with G-sync enabled.

And to add the cherry on the top! I will also be testing the "StarTech HDMI to DisplayPort Converter" ( https://www.startech.com/uk/AV/Converters/Video/hdmi-displayport-converter-4k~HD2DP ). As the P870KM1 has a HDMI 2.0, I'm curious on what the max refresh rate it will give me through a DisplayPort to a 1440P G-sync monitor. Knowing that you are using an HDMI connection as you have stated on your comment, I though it be best to share this type of information. I do know I write a book when I comment lol. I hope this helps bud.

    @D2 Ultima @Mr. Fox @bloodhawk @Papusan @Prema @Phoenix

after some discussion from Hansung about the lines on the QHD panel, they agreed to send me a test sample of a new batch qhd screen that doesn't have the lines

it's the same exact panel on the 17R4 that I have currently

there are hints that clevo will implement the panel exchange on newer batches of KM1 units

the problem now is figuring out if g-sync works or not

Can you arrange one panel for me as well? I dont mind paying for it.. they dont seem to be available anywhere yet. Other than directly with resellers / suppliers.

I got a blackscreen on boot.

Works fine when in bios or safe mode. Nvidia drivers seems to not like the display.
