If you opened it enough to look at the panel number did you try wiggling the cable while it was on and check seating on the motherboard and panel?

Fair enough, I would swap it out for the same panel then.

Your reseller or search on google, avoid pages not saying it's an exact match otherwise they may swap it for any compatible panel.

    Hey guys,

I have a weird issue. I'm on PremaMod V2. My 980m is flipping in between working and not working. Sometimes if I boot into the machine the screen won't even come on. And I'll get a code42 in device manager.

Other times, it works like there is no problem. I just finished benching it for over an hour and everything was fine.

    Hey all,

I have a 500 GB Samsung 850 Evo M.2 SSD in my NP9772 now, and I'm interested in upgrading to an NVME drive. The OCZ RD400 1 TB looks really tasty, though budgetary constrictions will probably relegate me to the 512 GB version. I have the Prema system BIOS. Is there anything special I need to do within it to get a NVME drive working properly?

    TIA

The problem is installing newer drivers. Basically the machine only works if only the WHQL drivers from windows update are installed. Everything works find and all benchmarking is fine. GPU never goes over 70C. No artificating, for all intents and purposes it seems absolutely fine.

As soon as I install drivers and reboot, the machine boots but the LCD doesn't come on. If I put the machine into hibernate and restart, the LCD comes on but in Device Manager, the 980m says that it can't start and has been disabled.

Yea, I can see all of the POST info. Additionally I can see the Windows logo for about 1 second before it presumably loads the video driver and then I get nothing.

What os? Windows 7 must be run in csm. All settings can be uefi only in csm EXCEPT for video being in legacy. Haven't been following your symptoms, so thought may not help you. ..

@Phawx - give vbios and driver version. If not running prema vbios, do not install above version 359.xx of nvidia driver. Boot in safe mode and DDU, then install lower driver or flash prema' vbios.

Edit: make sure you get the right one for your card, g-sync or not have different vbios

I'm running Windows 10. UEFI is disabled.

I am running P77xZM Prema Mod v2. I do not have the G-sync model.

    BIOS Version - 84.04.22.00.F1
Driver Version - 10.18.13.5362 WHQL (This is the driver that works and doesn't give any problems.)

Let me know, do you think I should re-enable UEFI?

    Edit:

I am running an older version of Prema's Vbios. Will updating the Vbios from the initial version to V2 solve my issues?

It will. You could not install any driver past version 359.00 on the older BIOS. Version 2 fixes this.

Hah! I barely use this laptop.

Alright, I'm gonna install Vbios V2 for the 980m and then test.

Probably going to sell this laptop as my schedule at work changed right after I got it XD

    Edit:

    Thanks for the help fellas.

    Edit Edit:

Real quick guys: This is in the ReaMe:

Preperation: - Make sure NVIDIA driver is installed and GPU is active
(You can use GPU-Z to activate it manually)

HOW-TO: - Double click 'ModMe.bat' in Windows and follow on-screen instructions
(Wait for the very brief 'update successful' message before rebooting the system)
    - Repeat with 'ModMe2.bat' in order to flash the second GPU in SLI systems

IIRC when I first installed the vbios mod, I had to do it in safe mode. From what the readme says, I'm technically on the correct driver version an the 980m is clearly the active GPU.

So I can run ModMe.bat in standard Windows without booting into safe mode?

You can leave uefi disabled if you like. But the newest vbios should be your solution. Grab the one appropriate with the 980m you own (whether g-sync model or not).

Did any of you tried booting ubuntu from usb flash drive? I tried latest lubuntu, mint and ubuntu versions, but none of them booted successfully. What's strange is that debian mint works no problem but not ubuntu mint  Any ideas?

What do you mean by "capabilities"? It's a standard FAT32 formated usb3 flashdrive and a 32bit 16.04 LTS ubuntu iso image i flashed with rufus. No UEFI, just Prema bios. The same flashdrive boots without problems on my Asus laptop.

    Hello!

Recently I've noticed some weird issue with my P771ZM. Suddenly it will turn off with no warning at all, just a black screen and when I turn it back on, the battery will always be indicated as "not detected". A proper reboot after this solves the issue, but it's still quite annoying.

Also, this usually happens during periods of low usage, just browsing the web or using Word. Never really when playing games. My CPU is undervolted but has been for 1.5 years now and I didn't have these issues beforehand. I had crashes due to low undervoltage but those always gave a BSOD, not just a black screen out of nowhere.

During these events I'm always connected to the grid with the adapter.

The logs state the following during the crash: Critical "Kernel-Power" error, ID 41, Task Category (63).
It's always the Kernel Power error I get when this happens.

Any ideas what could be wrong here? Could my PSU input port be damaged or something?

    Regards,

    Steve

Reduce your undervolt as a first step..

After that, is this happening on AC or battery?

Yeah, Low usage and crash vs high load and no problems can mean unstable because of too low voltage. Maybe he needs a bit higher voltage now like you says. Degrading of chips over time. But not very normal in such short time he had used his machine. Maybe he's undervolt has been a bit too much all the time.

    Hello

Will be reducing my undervolt with -10mV right now. Core voltage was -50mV, now it's -40mV and Cache was -85mV, now -75mV. Also this is happening on AC power. I don't really use this laptop on battery so I'm not sure if it would occur on that as well. It's not that frequent, usually happens maybe every two weeks or so. But every time it happens, the battery icon appears as "not detected" after rebooting. (it's not showing that it's 100% fully charged.). When rebooting again everything returns to normal.

Also, sometimes some of the keyboard controls using Fn do not work anymore, mostly brightness. Not sure if this is related, but these issues seem to happen together.

Thanks for the help so far.

    Hi all,

I couldn't search, the system said my search terms were to short.

On my 770ZM, I have my OS on the 512GB Samgsung EVO m.2 drive and my simulators on the SM951 m.2 drive. I did it that way because I needed the faster drive for the simulators. The largest m.2 drive at the time was 512GB.

One of my newer simulators are coming out with HUGE DLC files and I'm going to run out of room on the SM951. At the moment there is no way to install the DLC on one of the other SSD's and hard-link them.

I've noticed that 1TB m.2 drives have hit the market. My questions are:

Is there a 1TB m.2 drive with the same speed as my SM951 available?
If so, is it drop and play without a bios update needed.?

Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

    Bobby

There are both the Toshiba XG3 and the Samsung SM961 available with 1 TB and speed which is comparable to the SM951. However, i dont know if you'd need a special bios update if the SM951 already runs...

    hi everyone,
Any thoughts on a power brick/adapter replacement for this model? Sager has them for $125 on the web site for the lower model. I am not interested in a chinese knockoff. Any thoughts? I will certainly bite the bullet for $125 but was curious if anyone had any advice. The issue is that the bendy part of the cord as it exits the brick on the to PC side is starting to split/fray.

Generally with any power adapter, getting the manufacturer's one is recommended, since the output on those is what is the computer is designed for. Getting a 3rd party one can work, but they might not be exactly the same power output and can cause issues with your system.

Hey guys, any idea if the 980M-G will work in a non Gsync 771ZM? What about the other way around, like a regular 980M in the Gsync laptop? Thanks!

I know there are more issues with gsync/non-gsync on models with BGA chips (p650, p670). With those, if you have a Gsync screen and a non-gsync GPU they don't work and requires replacing the motherboard or screen so they match. I don't think there are quite the issues with MXM though. If you don't have both items being gsync capable, then obviously you don't get that feature. It's probably best to try to match them up though if possible.

They will swap but G-sync support will be lost.

    Hi,

I have a Schenker XMG U705 laptop, which is equivalent to your Clevo one. Since a few days, I am running into EXACTLY the same issue: When I switch on the computer in the morning, I get a black screen and reboot after something like 10 minutes. Then, the computer restarts and is fine for the whole day: gaming, videos... Everything is fine.

I am suspecting some Windows Update to have messed up with my setup. I am running no overclocks, nothing. And the problems happens with battery or adapter, no difference.

I am interested if you find a solution. Thanks a lot!

I got myself a second 850 Pro. It seems I might have to remove the primary SSD to fit this one in, this sits lower and the primary is kinda in the way.
Does anyone know if it's necessary to remove the other? I'm afraid I'll break the pins if I try to wiggle it down there with some wee force.
