Here's the thing with that, it depends on negative and positive air pressure. As this is all pull, by restrictive flow, you can, to a degree, increase the speed of air passing by (although slightly decreasing volume of air passing by).sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't, but this is never mentioned by those who perform the mod. Just a thought.

I just asked xoticPC, and they cant get the info after it shipped. I'll just have to order the 16Gb.
It looks like the Z97 has to have both memory banks ganged, a mismatch will disable ganging of the memory. I'll have to pull the 8Gb or see if I can match the timings to the installed memory.ajc9988 likes this. -

Removing keyboards, correctly, has never been an issue as long as you do not mark up the finish.
Thanks for the info on the speed and DDR3L that is enough to order from newegg. -
-
No problem, you have been more than helpful. The links here already gave me the service manual, everything is there. This site is great! Thank you!
Now all I need to do is wait... It gets harder to wait once you know it is slowly going across the country.ajc9988 likes this. -

Z97 should be able to cope with odd memory configurations.

Thanks, I just ordered a Crucial 8GB Model BLS8G3N169ES4. It was a solid CAS 9 part, XMP compatible and looked like it could work with a variety of timings.
I should be able to coax this into running with the stock 8Gb in ganged, until I get a chance to baseline the system and get a feel for the bottlenecks in the system before dropping any more into it. -
Heat issue with the CPU can be due to Intel CPUs with dry TIM inside of IHS. I own a desktop with 3570k and it goes up to 105 degrees with 1.25v @4.4Ghz. I don't think anybody has mentioned this

Another new owner of a Sager NP9772 here, awesomeville is the word, this machine is beauty full, with sugar on top. After 5 different ESD downloads of windows 8.1 (too many versions to count) I installed the OEM version in 6 minutes on the M.2 drive, coolers. Bye bye Alienware M18X, hello batman, batgirl and robin, ZOWIE! BAM! POW!.

Forgive me if I'm asking a noob question, or if it's something that has already been covered, but I'm planning on buying the NP9772-S at the end of the month. Does this come with an operating system pre-installed? Also, what is the best site to order it from? XOTICPC seems to be the cheapest that I've found, but would it be better to order it direct from Sager? Or are their other retailers who would be better to buy from a price/customer service standpoint? I'm in the US, in case that helps.
Thanks! -
u cant do anything wrong with xoticPC, they have a pretty good standing here in the community and DEFINITELY choose them over dealing with Sager directly, if customer service is important to you!
As for operating system, if there is an option in their configurator to remove it, then the OS is optional. If there is no respective option then it definitely comes pre-installed with drivers includedSupport.3@XOTIC PC, ajc9988 and drdameon like this. -
Thanks, Jaybee. I was just confused because it shows windows 8.1 on Sager, but on xoticPC, the default is no OS, just drivers and software, and the choices for OS are all CD based, which doesn't make sense, as there is no optical drive on this beast. >_>
-
thats why they have the option to include an external ODD some vendors, like mySn in my case, even include a usb stick with all the drivers on it
-
Haha. Yeah, i did see that, but I've never been a fan of external ODD. I have a desktop, and could always move the disk image to a USB once it arrives, if need be. Still waiting for video reviews for the NP9772/P770ZM, or the NP9772-S would be even better.
Thanks again!jaybee83 likes this. -
Oh, one last question, if I may. If ordered from xoticPC, does it come assembled, or is it diy? I prefer diy, and I saw the video on the 75x board of it being assembled in the user end, which I rather enjoyed. Thanks!
-
it comes pre-assembled, since they also do stress- and stability testing in-house to ensure that all components youve ordered are ready to roll out of the box
-
I just ordered mine from xoticpc and their information says that it comes directly from sager in California, unless you order mods that xoticpc does. Mine shipped yesterday and UPS is tracking from city of industry CA as the shipper. From the reviews here I am glad I went with xoticpc and their warranty. Thursday night is the ETA can't wait...

Anyone use a laptop cooler with this beast, I am planning to build a stand with a cooler recessed into the surface. That way the cooler can be positioned directly over the intakes with lots of airflow.
How hot does the power brick get with heavy gaming? -

We do this incase you already own a copy of Windows already that you can install once you get the computer. That way you are not forced into paying for something you already have. But if you do not have a copy already, then you just need to add it on the configuration page.ajc9988 likes this. -

Batman finally hit the skies. Should be here Thursday or Friday. Wanted to thank the people that explained the undervolting process earlier. I had some questions about that myself. Can't wait to get the beast install my 850 pro and 32GB of 2133 ram to support my 4790K and 980m. Holy **** those specs make me salivate a little haha. Once the OS is installed I'll be under volting and over clocking the ram as well as calibrating my monitor. Dreams do come true! Quick question for those of you who have received your laptop already. I opted for a barebones batman. (Coining it the Bruce Wayne edition) anyways I plan to install my own copy of windows 8.1. Does anyone know if the laptop ships with a driver disc if you opted without OS? If not looks like I can get started downloading and have them ready when it gets here. Also is there a driver installation order anywhere?

Yes, it comes with a driver disk and depending on the reseller a driver usb. The order is quite evident once you get the driver disk and see it´s contents (or run the autorun.exe).
But you can check the order here: http://mysn.de/driver/XMG/XMG_U505_und_U705/Ishatix likes this. -

The option is available from several different retailers. If you don't see it I would just check another site. Power notebooks and xotic both have the options for sure.

I've owned a Sager in the past and HATED the PSU. the brick was enormous and the DC power cord from the brick to the laptop was way to short (only like 3 or 4 feet). Can someone who has this laptop tell me the how long cord from the brick to the laptop is on the 230W supply?

Maybe a workaround would be to find an extension but i suppose that would be hard to find. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
As for the PSU the cable between the brick and laptop is where most losses occur as it's high current and low voltage. Engineering wise you want it to be short to make sure the brick is efficient as possible.Mr Najsman likes this. -
The LCD is not a deal breaker since I bought the machine, but I really don't understand why they would use a low quality ChiMei. The crappy LCD has been around since 2010 and ChiMei has done nothing to improve it. It's advertised as 300 cd/m but real testing is average 250 cd/m. And response time is 20ms. WTF?
And another kick in the balls is that it's not even ChiMei's best panel. They do have panels that are brighter with faster response.
72% is good, since games etc don't support color profiles anyway, higher than 72% is useless for me.
But I don't see why not a brighter, high contrast screen with higher quality control, no bluish/yellowish or whatever tint. And of course much better response time.
Plenty of evidence that ChiMei manufacturing quality control is in the dumps. Even for brightness one screen can differ by 50 cd/m....
Why not AUO? They got TN Panels that are brighter, higher contrast, better viewing angles, and better response time.Last edited: Feb 17, 2015 -

The only thing I can think of is AUO didn't cut a large enough deal. It's not the fact that the stock screen isn't up to par that really eeks me. I just wish there were more options. I would be happy to shell out $100-200 for a high quality screen. The power is awesome for sure but the screen is what you stare at everyday.
