if youve installed the intel wireless tool, u can access the wifi adapter´s settings (either there or through device manager, but the former is a bit more easy in terms of handling) and check if the adapter is configured correctly for usage in both network types.

Well I reinstalled the drivers with the proset utility and all it does is allow me to import profiles.
Care to explain how I can check in device manager to see if it's properly configured?

check out this link, for example: http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/19/SLN285293/EN

basically, go to device manager, network adapters, intel 8260, properties, advanced and then check under preferred band, it should be either auto or both or smth like that and not just 2.4 ghz or 5 ghz :)

It's set to no proference. Damn it.

LE: Apparently the Intel 8260 decided not to discover just MY 2.4ghz network. It connects just fine to other 2.4ghz networks and to my 5ghz network.

The router is a TPLINK WDR3600. Gonna try to troubleshoot this thing later.

hmmm....got any security mechanisms implemented? MAC filter? non-broadcasted/hidden SSID? if none of those, try and reset your router and freshly configure ur wifi network...

It's really odd since every other laptop in the house, mobile phone, tablet, can see both ssids, just this newest toy of mine, won't. Both ssids are configured the same, wpa2psk security, fixed channels, etc etc.
    ? :)
I suspect something along the lines: the laptop/wifi card knows it's the same router broadcasting both ssids and connects to the...strongest/best one? Or I'm going bananas? :)

@jaybee83 is 48-50 degrees a normal temperature for the 980m in idle/office work?

yep, thats the shared heatsink at work. the desktop cpu causes the gpu to idle a bit higher, nothing to worry about though :) i have troubles making my 980m break 70s oced to the max on both gpu and cpu :D

even if it automatically connects to the 5ghz ssid, it should still at least be showing that ssid twice...

Thing is , the cpu idles at lower, like 45ish. Just played about 40 minutes of BF4 on some 64players maps (ultra settings of course) and max temps were 66 on gpu and 64 on cpu. I am relieved that I did a good paste job on the first run :).

Just need to figure out this whole g-sync thing since I can't say I notice anything different from my old 970m (other than playing at higher gfx settings).

those are some nice temps indeed, good (paste)job! auto fans i presume? vsync/gsync on?

the cpu may idle at 45C, but when u put light load on it it may easily cause some temp spikes to the 50s, thus keeping the gpu around that idle temp. but as i said before, nothing to worry about :)

i keep my 4790k at 4.2 ghz all cores on a daily basis, it idles in the low 50s with spikes to high 60s during everyday light/medium loads. the gpu stays around 49-50C.

Yea, Gsync activated from nvidia control panel and that's pretty much the only thing I tinkered around with. Gonna come back with answers/questions as soon as I run into stuff.

    G-sync will help mostly:

    A) If you overclock your panel to the 90hz region.

    and/or

    B) The settings are high enough you hover around 40-60fps.

Look, if you want to use NTlite7 or WAIK, you can add the drivers to install.wim using the following info or look up NTLite7:

Anybody have any clues why my CPU won't go to turbo speeds? I am trying to run a test on passmark and it clearly states turbo speed 3.2ghz (base speed) and in Intel XTU I never catch a reading of speeds over 3.2ghz.

Any tips what I should do?

Even if I do that, the 8260 doesn't see the 2.4ghz ssid, my ssid.

I can connect to other 2.4ghz networks. Actually I see other 2.4ghz networks with inssider.

So that leaves me with an incompatibility between the 8260 and the wdr3600.

I reinstalled XTU so not to leave any "things" behind. Please see the screenshot attached. No changes in bios since it's stock and nothing much to change. There is one option though, that I don't know what it does. It's called GPU Scaling and it's set to disable. Any clues what it does? Does the ZM have the same option?

LE: 2nd attachment after a reboot. Something changed in XTU, as you can see.

ok, according to your multis ure sporting an i5-6500, good to know. make sure ure running on the high performance profile in windows. also maximize the turbo boost power max slider, see if that helps (prevents your cpu from being power throttled when boosting).
gpu scaling disables/enables gpu overclocking through the clevo gpu oc app (located in the same folder where the hotkey / control center is installed)

Pre-loaded (ssd, etc) vs. You entering it. Also usually slightly cheaper than adding it on the 770 model

just visual details, in the ZM series it was a differing finish on the fan exhaust grills (glossy vs matte)

@ajc9988: ure probably talking about the -S and non -S versions from Sager and their resellers ;)

What drivers are you missing? I would have thought you could piece together a set from older models/manufacturers if there was something that did not agree with 8.1/7.

Maybe they hid them under the planet ;)

Currently the sager driver page currently only has win10 drivers listed on it I wanted to order one tomorrow but I need win 7 to work. http://www.sagernotebook.com/drivers.php?cat=617
might be able to piece them its possible but I dont want to take a chance with that rather just install them oem with no headaches.

So now I'm 100% confident that my 8260AC is not faulty, but a matter of incompatibilty with the wifi router at home (wdr3600 - heads up for anybody else). At the moment I am at a coffee shop and connected to a 2.4ghz network and everything works as it should. At least I got that off my mind.

@jaybee83 can you help with some settings as to what I can do to lower the power consumption while on battery? A mixture of powerplans/xtu?

    Thanks.

there are indeed several options to lower power consumption while on battery:

force cpu to 800 mhz / underclock gpu to its stability limit on both core and vram / lower brightness to minimum / disable any unused network adapter / switch off keyboard backlight (not kidding here, it uses significant power!) / disconnect any unnecessary external devices / ...

    Hi all,
Well, I've made the leap from a p170hm to a p771dm from XMG.
I was contemplating the Asus g751 but the lack of upgrade options made me go with the U706.
I was tempted with the u705 but for longevity I chose the new version.
Went with the 980m, i7 6700k, 16gb 2133mhz ram, & a 500gb m.2 Samsung 850 evo. (Got another one the same to fit from my old laptop) oh....and killer wireless and 3 years warranty.
Looking forward to getting advice from everyone here.

    Cheers Jim

Just curious, as sometimes I will need battery over performance, what is the battery life like if the CPU and GPU is underclocked/undervolted with airplane mode on, screen brightness to minimum and the keyboard backlight turned off?

Not a whole lot different to the old zm models, see the review for accurate numbers.
