As long as the SSD's are M2's. You have a bay for two 2.5inch drives, two M2 slots. Take a look at my sig for idea of all storage drives in use.

Does anyone know which manufacturer makes a 2 TB HDD 7mm? I'm looking to stack a 2nd 2TB bay ontop of my 1 TB bay.
    I already have a M.2 512gb.

    There are no 2tb 7mm.
The 1Tb 7mm western digital blue thin is the biggest caacity available in 2.5 x 7mm form factor

For those that are getting the whole 1525 w/ no bluetooth, there is an updated EC (1.03.06) that fixes that without having to do anything else. It was a change in how qualcomm started making the cards. Just ask where you got the laptop from for that version of EC or better and it'll light right up.

@Cakefish, we'll have a new BIOS packaged up soon thats even newer than the one you have =P

What! Mythlogic, did you investigate the issue? How is the EC fixing it? If it does, it is not like a physical connection issue then...

Yes we investigated it when we got our first K1525 in that weren't directly from Qualcomm they were from their distributor. Sure enough no bluetooth (doesn't even show). So after doing some more digging they (Qualcomm) changed how the BTooth Enable pin works, so basically the EC was asking if the WLAN had btooth on it as well, didn't understand the answer and so didn't light up the USB (Btooth) part. So a simple EC change to account for the change in the BTooth enable pin and BAM all those that didn't work before work like a champ. So nope not a physical issue at all except for a change in how the part reported in.

8651 is one brilliant laptop, but next time I'm explicitly getting a laptop without Optimus, it causes much more trouble than it's worth. Seems like 9752 doesn't have it, might be a good alternative if anyone I know expresses interest in buying this one. I'm enjoying the heck out of it when everything's working fine, though.

Ok but how does this explain the fact that for Cakefish and omer.sak it was working fine already and the fact that for some people it was working sometimes.

Theoretically if that was the case then the BT should not be working for anyone...ever.

This still smells a litlle bit fishy to me..
I mean I'm sure that that was the main reason but is it the only reason?

Maybe the replacement one I received was a different batch to my original one? Or something like that. I'm really not sure, but the replacement hasn't faltered once yet *knock on wood!*

I noticed the original card's Bluetooth would come to life whenever I flashed a BIOS, work fine with a few reboots/shutdowns for a few hours and then completely disappear again the following morning, as if it were time dependant (with the machine being shut down for long enough causing Bluetooth to never wake from its slumber, unless a BIOS was flashed again).

It's not about that... it's about the fact that this thing changes how the pins in the m.2 slot are interpreted.

Will the ec detect the 1525 and change only in that case or will it affect any wifi card connected.

Meaning if someone with intel wifi flashes it will they have probs?

P.S. and I'm still curious why some peoples cards are working even without this new EC

    Hello,

After following this thread for a while, i'm the very happy owner of a clevo p650SE, from Anywhere, a Clevo distributor in France.
I was a bit afraid of the quality of the screen after reading a few posts, but mine came with a matte IPS one, with very nice viewing angles, and quite good color calibration :)

My only problem now is the noise from the CPU fan. I'm totally ok to accept some fan noise for a laptop that powerful, but mine are making a really painful high pitched noise, like a whistle, in adition to the normal fan noise.. A bit like if the fan was missing oil or something like this..

I tried to see if it was possible to open the fan to put a drop of oil inside, but it seems difficult to open (no screws)

Any of you has similar problem?

Is it possible to fix it, or should i try to change it?

The 7265's still work fine on EC 1.03.06 they just added a new "word" to the EC:

"Modified EC command 0xA8.(BT detection flag)"

And yes there are batches that work without the fix, and some that won't work without the fix (1525). We have our original batch direct from Qualcomm that work just fine without 1.03.06, I have one in my own laptop. Then they made a running manufacturing change and changed how it works, there are no version bump or anything on the card itself, you can't physically discern one that works from one that doesn't they look identical (trust me we looked long and hard for a difference). However if you take one that doesn't work and stick it in a laptop with 1.03.06 it works like a champ.

So why do some peoples cards work while others don't? Dumb luck of getting one from an earlier batch.

Yea...since you only want a single HDD you'd be better off with a cheaper faster 9.5 mm 7200RPM drive

The one that you currently have selected is a 7mm 5400Rpm drive that is slower AND more expensive than for example the HGST Travelstar 7K1000

Also the Samsung SSD that you selected is not really a good buy at this time as the price is waaay to hi and the drive gets extremely hot while the real world performance is not so much higher.

Thanks - was wondering that about the HDD. So the only advantage of the blue is its format right?
So what SDD shoud I go for then? I thought Samsung was the fastest on the market?

Personally I can't recommend you a M.2 format SSD right now...I'm also exploring options.

My best bet would be waiting for Samsung and Crucial to release the M.2 versions of 850Evo and MX200 wich are said to hit the shelvea Q1 2015

Alternatively you could stick with the 7mm WD Blue drive and add a normal 2.5" Ssd such as Crucial MX100 512GB or Samsung 850EVO 500GB

The samsung that you selected is indeed the fastest SSD available for sale right now but it is extremely overpriced

I ordered a P650SG and I went with a standard HHD plus a 1tb Samsung 850 evo (bought separately for much cheaper). Mine was a full sized 9.5mm HDD but you could do the same thing with the slimmer 7mm HDD and mix it with whatever sized SSD you want. I am waiting for the M.2 drives to mature a bit and also for prices to come down to something within reason.

Ok but is there any downside to the xp941 aside from price? Is the temperature really unmanageable?

EDIT: Just had a look on the web and temps are 110C+... That just seems like a bit much. Might not use the m2 slots altogether - can you put a normal SSD + a 7200rpm on that chassis (without temp problems)?

Sure... i recommend the 1Tb hitachi travelstar 7k1000(7200rpm) or the 2Tb samsung spinpoint(5400 rpm)

As a SSD since you don't really care about money, get a 850pro

that's only numbers on paper...in real life there are only a few specific cases where the xp941 will be much faster.

For most applications the differences will not be that big.

If you want a good M.2 PCIEx SSD you'll have to wait some time for the technology to mature

if u cannot wait, then by all means go with an 850 pro :) sequential read/write is only important if u handle a huge amount of LARGE files (e.g. zips, vids, pictures, iso files, etc.) on an everyday basis. if, however, u want REAL performance in everyday usage with ur OS, games, etc. then u should check a drive´s small file size performance, in particular 4 KB read/writes! :) and that is where the 850 pro really shines. even outperforms the xp941 in some regards :p

We have a lot of XP941's in laptops, and I have one as well (512GB), its really really fast, like really fast, and haven't had any issues with heat or stability with it. I've beat it up and the laptop its-self never got any hotter that I could tell. That being said, yeah its a little $/GB expensive no doubt but doesn't make it bad :p Porsche's are a little $/HP expensive but that's not why you bought one now is it heh.

Hello mates! I am sharing my experience trying to tighten the timings of my ram (Hyperx impact black series 16gb 1866MHz). I am tweaking profiles in prema 's bios, and testing stability with prime95 custom blend test.

My base latencies are 10-10-10-32. I began trying to lower CL and RP to reach 9-10-9-32, but even this first step is not stable (worker fails within 5 minute in p95).

Do you guys ever try to tighten can latency in laptop ram? Not that I care about it, wanted to do it for fun (I love tinkering and tweaking my new hardware). And beside that, I am using a 850pro as a main drive, I can definitely vouch for it!!

ok, i had to laugh at that comparison :D in a good way though ;)

yep, overclocking / tightening RAM can be a biatch! u definitely need lots of time and patience to sort this one out, add to that loooots of stability testing! also, frequency is more important than timings. so my suggestion: loosen the timings to like CL12 and then try and hit 2133 Mhz ;) once u got that, tighten the timings again and ull be a happy camper :)

Since we started discussing M.2 SSD's i have a question for you guys:

I found a reasonably cheap M.2 SSD in the form of the AData SP900 256 GB wich comes with the Sandforce SF-2281 controller. I know that controller had issues with trim. Did they fix it in the latest firmware?

Would this SSD be a good option as a system drive or would I be better off waiting for the 850evo or mx200 ?

I could only find reviews of the 2.5' SP900 which is a different thing alltogether as it uses TLC while the M.2 version uses MLC

P.S. cheap means about the same price as a same capacity 2.5' 850evo

Why not both? (check my sig :p)

Seriously though, you can't go wrong with either. Both are very schnappi. I currently have the M6e as my OS drive and I know it technically has less 4K read/write speeds, but in practice I don't actually notice any real world difference from the time when my 850 Pro and 840 Pro were my OS drives on my previous laptops. They're all just super fast and awesome. Windows boots in mere seconds. Programs start up in seconds. Games load in mere seconds. Compressed .zip files extract nice and promptly. Copy and paste is lightning fast to any of the internal drives. You can throw large files between them in mere seconds. It's all very slick and responsive.
