i dont get it, why did they make another revision? only differences i can see to the existing ones are changed height (27 mm instead of 25 mm (650SE / 651SE / 650SA / 651SA) and 29 mm (SG)) and one instead of two 2.5" storage ports.

so they leave out one storage port, make the machine thicker than the existing 965M / 970M machines and leave everything else untouched? only thing i could think of would be more room for improved CPU cooling, at least that would make sense. if thats the case, then a new P655SG revision would still be missing, maybe with 31mm height? :p

Quick question. I played with me fox's drivers today on my p651sg, installed them easily. I'm on prema bios and vbios.
I do not see that much change between standard Nvidia and this one, I see a slight improvement in heaven benchmark, same graphics score in firestrike. What are your impressions on this driver? Are the main improvement in game?

Moreover, noob question: I see with this driver the dgpu led always on, no matter what I set in the Nvidia control panel. I assume this is due of the desktop origin of these drivers. Is it any way of making it compatible with Optimus? Just wondering.

I have the LG Philips LP156WF4-SLB5 and it's pretty average - I'm looking to change it as well. 72% sRGB coverage quite a warm white balance - it needs to be calibrated using an x-rite. I was actually looking to get the AUO display you had.

There was a thread on here which compared and determined the best IPS panel - the widest colorspace 94% sRGB with the least perceptible input lag - It was a Samsung PLS panel but unfortunately that thread seems to be missing because the new NBR is buggy as ****.

    Here's the LGs bleed

Forums look messy. Also, I posted a while ago on Bluetooth working for a bit, but now its just gone. For some reason, after booting up from pairing devices for first time, the system no longer recognizes the Bluetooth device. The wifi portion of the 1525AC still works, but the bluetooth drivers act like my system doesnt have the supported hardware.

I wont be doing a system refresh as I have too much installed and custom programs to deal with, but I see why @Cakefish had trouble. I will be trying a few things to get it working.

So far, deleting drivers and reinstalling did not work, and so did BIOS flashing. Also took battery out to clean cache, but didnt work either. Emailed my vendor for a spare 1525AC to see if the card is at fault.

@Jinx: I opened my laptop earlier to reach battery and yes, the 1525AC is quite small. For mine, it was installed with screw and they taped it to secure it.

EDIT: The bluetooth driver... fixed itself? What the hell is this? I left the laptop unplugged with all devices removed to leave it alone and went to bed. Woke up... bluetooth works and I can reboot/shutdown and come back to Windows with working BT drivers and devices? IS THIS THING ALIVE?

I have some CPU throttling issues I was wondering if someone here might be able to assist with. I read the first 350 pages or so of this thread until my laptop came a few weeks ago, then became preoccupied. :) Now with the new format I'm not sure where that puts it, and also searching for "throttling" or "cpu throttling" is just giving me an error so perhaps the site is not fully functional, anyway...

I've been playing Star Citizen and I'm getting frequent stutters/pauses. After trying all manner of graphics settings, unplugging all peripherals, closing all other programs etc., the problem was identical. Using HWinfo64 and the MSI Afterburner overlay I found my CPU was ratcheting down to 800MHz during these stutters. Using Intel XTU I noticed that while this is occurring the "Thermal throttling" graph was spiking, despite the CPU not going much over 75C. I can run the XTU stress test and it will stay at 90-95C and 3.4GHz with it showing throttling a little.

I've tried both the "quiet" and "performance" presets in the Clevo utility, as well as changing "minimum processor state" to 100% in the Windows power options. I've never overclocked nor do I have any experience with it, other than what I read about others doing on the Internet. If anyone has any ideas for things I could try or check, I'd be grateful.

Hey, was wondering what people would recommend for a carrying case for the NP8651. It's slightly taller than normal 15.6" laptops, and it doesn't fit in the case I used with my old laptop. The corners stuck out of the bag and kept it from zipping.

    Hi All,

I'm a fairly advanced user, however my last pc/laptop is almost 5+ years old. I'm wondering if the installation process for the OS has changed after the UEFI has come into the picture. I would like to install 2 or 3 different OSs. I used to do it earlier when my pc was the BIOS/MBR setup. I used to make 5 partitions and install the OSs on the first 2 or 3 partitions.

I would like to know that once i receive the laptop, Can i go ahead and make the partitions using gparted as before and go on with business as usual?

I assume that the laptop will be a UEFI based one.

The reason for my confusion is the option in Rufus which states 'GPT partition scheme for UEFI computer' from the guide found here - http://www.nextofwindows.com/how-to-make-uefi-bootable-usb-flash-drive-to-install-windows-8/

I've never done this before, and hence the confusion.

UPDATE your bios/ec (1.03.05/1.03.04) and your hotkey software (3.09.21) if you have a Clevo they can be found respectively on the xmg website (jaybee posted the download section on the first page) and on the clevo.com.tw website (p650SE download section)

Earlier tests I've done showed that the CPU cannot hold turbo speeds for too long. Try using Balanced power settings and let it run on its own.

I have my OS UEFI installed. To do so, just make sure you have no legacy settings on and I highly recommend using a USB disk drive as it gave me the last hassle in setting up.

Hi everyone. I just received my NP8652 yesterday, and it's fantastic. However, I'm having a weird issue. Every time I install the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility, my laptop hard locks, displays a CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED message, and reboots. Thinking there was something wrong with the installer from the Sager disk, I grabbed the XTU installer from the internet and tried again, but got the same result.

Have any of you guys had this problem? I'm not too bummed out about the lack of access to XTU, but I'm suspicious that this is the symptom of another issue.

Here is a shot from XTU with the cursor over one of my Star Citizen stutters. For some reason thermal throttling is shooting way up and CPU freq going way down, despite very little CPU usage and relatively low temperature. The highest temp on the entire graph is 80C and it doesn't even throttle close to that point. Is it possible something other than temperature is causing this throttling?

    Firstly, download throttlestop 6.0.
Extract and run it. Set your multiplier to 36T and hit the "turn on" button and then hit "save". Exit throttlestop. Go in the throttlestop folder and open the file called "throttlestop.ini" and then at the bottom, proceed to add the following two lines:
    TimePeriodAC=1
    TimePeriodDC=16
And then save and close that ini file. Launch throttlestop again and keep it minimized (minimizing to the system tray is what I do). Should fix Windows 8.1's general random stutter. Also, it should keep your CPU at max turbo as much as it can. Also setting minimum processor state in windows should help. If you ever notice throttling happening again, check the max temps in Throttlestop and see if it actually did thermal throttle, just in case.

Oh buggers....i just realised reading this that all my bookmarks that I saved while reading this thread for fixes of varying issues are now useless......

I really hope you guys don't mind if I just ask some questions that have been answered before in case I can't find the answers.

To be honest this new platform is turning to be quire a hastle... personally I really hate the look of it too.

    It looks ..... cheap...yeah that's the word :D

On another note.... maybe the reps from XOTIC or MYTHLOGIC can give us more info on the new Clevo P655 :)

Later edit: Looking at the pics on the clevo website it looks like there's a big blue button in the middle of the speaker grill on the P655... wonder what it's for?

Also looks like the hinge system has changed...it's one of those long hinges.... it's no longer 2 separate ones.

    Taped it?

    What do you mean?

    As in duct tape? o_O

For Cakefish the wifi was defective and he had the exact same simptoms.

He replaced it with a new one and everything was fine after that.

At least it isnt loose. I wiggled it but that requires a bit of force to do so. At least BT on 7265 may work better, but I prefer consistent ping.

I know you can fix the ping by deactivating the roaming option.

But yeah.... personally I don't use bluetooth as much also.... maybe never actually :))

The thing is I hate to know I have something that isn't working on a brand new laptop....that and the fact that the killer 1525 ac is 25€ extra than the 7265 with my reseller

Thanks for the suggestions. I actually didn't see the ones between my first and second posts. I'm glad I'm not the only one thrown off by this new layout (too many different fonts or something). I'll try to update the BIOS and Clevo App, use the balanced settings, and the Throttlestop stuff.

Hey, I'll just repost since the forums seem... dodgy since the transition.

My old carrying case doesn't fit my NP8651- the corners stick out and keep it from zipping. Looking at the internal dimensions of cases on Amazon, it looks like virtually all 15.6" cases are going to be too small for this laptop, since in the effort to minimize thickness, it is slightly taller than average. I was just wondering what everyone else is using or would recommend. I'm looking for something that would have space for this brick of a charger, as well as a notebook or two for class.

I do, and I wondered the same thing. However in my case the CPU is definitely slowing down both in HWinfo and XTU. I wouldn't rule out the MX100, but it's a popular drive so a lot of us have it. I don't know if SSD use would slow down a CPU, plus it's only happening in Star Citizen so far (though admittedly I haven't played much else, at least not with this kind of scrutiny). I won't rule it out, but I'm going to try to update my BIOS (just as soon as I figure out how; last one I did used a floppy drive) and mess with Throttlestop first.

Was this on battery or adapter?

To those of you using the DELL Power Brick, I believe the 230Watt PA-19 seems like a good option?

How does it compare size and weight wise to the stock one, the stock one weighs as much as the notebook I swear!

I get that. I'm more disappointed about the size and weight. I usually like to have two power bricks anyway.

One for home (can be the stock one) and one for travel (hopefully smaller and lighter).

Okay so I just got word from my clevo dealer and he just told me that he has no concrete info yet but unoficially it seems to be the plastic bodied version of the p650/651.

That would explain the added height as a plastic chassis needs to be thicker to have the same sturdiness.

So basically i think it will be a cheaper version of the same machine

Actually that's a little bit sad as i was hoping for this to be an MXM version

the dell adapter weighs around 850 grams (thus a tad less than the 1kg stock), is way flatter than the stock 180w but also longer and wider. if u need a lighter one for travelling u can just use any adapter with a compatible power connector (barrel type, inner diameter 2.5mm, outer diameter 5.5mm). just beware that if u choose a lower wattage psu such as 120w ull have to take care not to stress both gpu and cpu at the same time! ive used such an 120w adapter on my previous p150hm before (same power connector as the p65x, same stock 180w) and it was more than sufficient for work related stuff where i only stress the cpu.

    cheers

I just got my NP8652 from Xoticpc and it's great with the exception of the display. I made a horrible mistake in getting the Samsung 4k panel. It cannot properly display yellow and the local dimming makes isolated areas of yellow appear mustard colored. Attached is a photo of the truly horrible mustard. I really should have paid more attention to this thread!

Edit: removed my question about swapping the panel for the Sharp. I found HTWingnut's excellent video on changing the panel and ordered the Sharp 4k panel from BuyHiQ.com. Shipped to NYC for $281 which is a hell of a lot cheaper than the $465 Sager wanted to charge!

Also, just to make sure no one gets this Samsung panel ever again, here is a video of the dimming in effect.

That yellow is supposed to be pure R255 G255 B0 so it should be bright lemon yellow. When the canvas is primarily yellow the color is still absolutely awful, but when the dimming kicks in, it's unbelievable. Xotic said it would be $465 to replace the panel with the Sharp and I'd have to pay to ship the whole machine back to Sager on top of that so I'll just try to do it myself.

LoneSyndal, I have the same laptop, network card and problem as you. Bluetooth seem to appear and disappear as it wants. I will try to wipe Bluetooth driver and killer suite and to install first Bluetooth driver then wifi suite, as suggested in the thread for the card.

Edit: and sometimes the Bluetooth disappears even without rebooting, everything is fine, using Bluetooth mouse while browsing on wifi and dang mouse doesn't work and Bluetooth has disappeared from laptop.

On a side note, for those who tried mr Fox's drivers, did you see an improvement on 980m performance ? If so how much and where was it?

Looks like this is shaping up to be a general problem with these cards.

Maybe Cakefish can answer if he still has a problem with his.

he doesnt, he just got a replacement card from his vendor and didnt have any problems afterwards. could it be that cuz of the dodgy size of this card some contacts get kinda "loose" and thus BT behaves funny?

Yeah....that's what I was thinking also. I'm starting to think it isn't a card fault but rather a contact problem.

Lone Syndal can you try to remove your current card and plug it back in taking care to align the pins correctly?

also kinda suspricious that syndal´s card started working right after he checked the ghetto-tape-installation... maybe by fumbling around with it he accidentally made proper contact with all its pins :p

at least now u can delete your double posts ;)

Just some info for the guys who like me find the new forum interface fugly:
If you go to the bottom of the page in the left corner if you click on Xen Foogle you can change the style of the page.

Personally i found vB 3.x - Fluid to be the one that looks the most like the previous version

Yeah, my Bluetooth has behaved itself ever since I replaced the original wireless card. No issues whatsoever. I have taken it outside the home travelling a couple of times too.

The CPU throttling can be fixed by a BIOS/EC update. I had the same issue, so it can be fixed. I'm good on Prema's BIOS mod but was also good on the latest stock BIOS too.

My biggest complaint with this laptop remains the light bleed. I watched Interstellar the other day (enjoyed the film) and found the light bleed quite distracting in the darkness of space. There's not much that I can do about it though. I know it's not just a problem with the Sharp display as the Panasonic display in my Gigabyte P35X v3 also had some lightbleed and others too in this thread have light bleed on their AUO and LG displays - seems to be all displays.

All 3 guys that are having cpu throttling already have prema bios installed.

One of them RMA'd the laptop and they responded to him that it's because of the crucial mx100 ssd.

Coincidentally the other 2 guys that have throttling issues also have the crucial mx100 ssd.

As i don't really believe in coincidence....

I can tell u for sure that I'm having stutters because of my system drive on a different machine(a normal hdd) because it has some malfunctioning power saving feature that tries to park the head every once in a while.

Every time it tries to park the head my system freezes for a milisecond. I managed to use a utility ti change the settings and now it only happens every 30 minutes.

I know that the crucial mx100 is a ssd and it has no heads to park but there can be a number of other reasons why it can have breakdowns in performance and I have said earlier.... a malfunctioning system drive can definetly cause stuttering and freezes

I find it only normal that during these freezes since the cpu is not receiving any info it is clocking down wich might look like throttling.

Oh, I see. Did they also update the EC to the latest version?

    If so, that's unfortunate.

I'm having CPU throttling but am still on original factory BIOS. I do have the Crucial MX100, but until I update the BIOS and try Throttlestop I'm not going to look into that. A funky system drive causing stutters is perfectly believable, but would those stutters manifest themselves in actual CPU speed reductions. In each stutter I can plainly see on my overlay that my CPU is going to 799MHz on all 4 cores.

I won't be able to update my BIOS until late today at the earliest, as I had previously set aside today to do my taxes, and I want that refund so I can get one of those 34" 21:9 monitors. ;)

Also thanks so much for the tip on changing the bulletin board layout Jinx.
