Hi new here I order the np8652 with the standard wireless card now im look for a wireless card i could buy and put in this beast can anyone help me with this...
Also should I install Windows 8.1 or Windows 7 I'm more familiar with 7 but if there's any problems with the drivers with 7 then I'm sure I could warm up to 8.1

Also a 192bit memory bus instead of 256bit, cutting memory bandwidth by 25%. Also slightly lower stock clockspeeds on the core.

So... yeah. It'll be a mighty challenge to get it to overclock by the ~30% necessary to keep up with a stock 980M. It'll be impossible to keep a temperature advantage. More cores running at lower clockspeeds is more efficient than fewer cores running at higher clockspeeds. So, sorry but you can't produce a miracle and maintain a massively cooler 970M with the same performance as a 980M. Physics won't allow it. Yeah, you can undervolt but you sure as heck aren't gonna get ~30% performance increase while heavily undervolted.

970M is still a great GPU of course :) So be happy with what you've got. It'll still overclock well and run cool. But if you wanted 980M performance at 970M temps... that's a physical impossibility currently.

So I noticed that the backlight of my IPS screen seems to change a bit, at least when I'm running on battery. Went into power options and made sure adaptive display was off and that the screen was set to always be at 100%, but I was still noticing that the backlight was a bit weaker sometimes.

However, I just went into the Intel HD Graphics config program and found an option that reduces the current consumed by the screen when on battery. It's on. Is it safe to say that's what was causing the sometimes dimmer display?

There are also contrast, luminosity and gamma options in the Intel HD config panel :D These settings must apply to the screen at all times, right? And not just when the iGPU is being used?

Oh, and how do I found out the exact model of my IPS screen? I have the P505 from XMG, but I was wondering if I have the same panel that Wickette was talking about.

I think I remember someone saying that drivers for the P650/ P651 series aren't made for Windows 7, but perhaps I'm wrong. But I do know for sure that the drivers availabe on XMG's site (where I bought from) are clearly marked as being for Windows 8.1, with no signs of any for Windows 7.

Either way, best to ask whatever vendor you're buying from about OS compatibility, as they should know.

ok let's go shopping, I'm searching for a pink unicorn actually ^^, It's not normal guys after more than one year since the release of haswell to expect less than 90 C for a stressed gaming intel cpu, in a 15" gaming laptop.

I've got the same one. I think it's an AHVA panel which basically means nothing too significant. It's the same screen used in the Acer V5. 300 nits of brightness and decent contrast but nothing spectacular. Certainly better than the TN panels used in the old P150/P157 laptops. The GS60 Ghost Pro 3k screen runs laps around this screen in every manner except the ability to run things without scaling which is why I ended up with 1080p rather than 3k or 4k.

EDIT: I say GS60 Ghost Pro 3K screen because the 3K screen option is the exact same part as the GS60's screen.

What kind of framerates do you get with a 4K display? I'm guessing you'd have to run on med/ low settings on most new games to get around 60fps?

I think 4K is awesome, but I'll be waiting at least 2 years before I start 4K gaming on a laptop. Just for the technology to advance a good bit. But that's just because I value ultra settings + 60fps @1080p over a higher resolution while sacrificing other visual aspects. It's great that the option is available for those who want it, though :)

On 3K I was getting fairly respectable framerates in DX9 games like TF2 and CSGO. But in Civ V and Beyond Earth, while both looked spectacular I was getting issues with small UI elements and difficult to read text. And trying to scale down any DX11 games resulted in the Intel graphics chip refusing to 'stretch' to fit the display. Basically what I ended up with was black borders around the resolution I set it at. Very disappointing.

I don't care that Windows UI elements don't scale 100%. I don't care that when I run MATLAB all the text is blurry and poorly rendered. But I do care quite a lot about the Intel graphics chip being incapable of simply stretching the resolution in DX11 games. I mean, it's pretty simple sounding issue and one that has persisted for GabeN knows how long.

This is is why I don't go HIDPI.

I'll be using good ol' 1080p for likes of Crysis 3. And then 4K for the likes of Trine 2. Win win.

My battery is already at 5% wear level according to HWMonitor. Is that normal? I haven't had the cable plugged in all the time, but even if I had, I think the battery on my old laptop is at something like 15 percent wear level after 18 months of heavy use while plugged into AC.

It's normal for a new battery until it has a few charge/drain cycles. Let it it charge full and run it unplugged until it's almost ready to shut down for a couple of days and see if it recalibrates.

based on data ive seen on computerbase and tomshardware, scaling from full HD to 4K would approximately give you 30% of the FullHD performance

Right, so just keep on charging fully and then nearly decharging for a few days, and it should sort itself out most likely? Sorry, just want to make sure I understood you 100%.

I would just set a power profile to not sleep and shut down when it hits critical %, then unplug it and let it idle overnight until it shuts down. Plug it in in the morning and let it charge fully and that should calibrate your battery.

For those of you looking for a higher wattage power supply, you can buy a Dell PA-19 from eBay (or where ever) and then buy this adapter: X75 Power Connector - 7.4 x 5.08mm Female Jack to 5.5 x 2.5mm Male Plug

Keep in mind that this is a 19.5V AC adapter and the P650/670/651/671 blah blah Clevo's are 19V. It should still be safe, as it's less than 3% variation in voltage, but thought I'd point out the risk nevertheless.

I'm sorry to keep spamming this thread with all my problems and worries regarding my laptop, but would you be able to recommend a set of programs to test my computer to make sure that there are no hardware problems? I got a random Event ID 41 Kernel-Power no BSOD shutdown yesterday, and I'd really like to try to make sure that everything is OK with this brand new expensive laptop.

Updated the OP with a "Mods" section, first entry is HTWingnut´s post with the adapter cable to upgrade to a Dell 240W PSU :)

My thoughts were to include that section and fill it up with modifications that go beyond stock specs (thus, a screen swap, for example, would not be included since that is indeed possible as a stock option)

    Enjoy!

Nope. Definitely not. Running a game at 1080p on a 4K display gives 100% the performance of running 1080p natively.

Edit: oh wait I see that's not what you were inferring.

If there are no services that require it to ship to us then it will ship from Sager which is in CA. Right now Sager is estimating 7-12 business days for their build times.

Alright, I analyzed the minidump file and it looks like the BSOD was due to the Synaptics trackpad driver. A quick Google search shows that quite a few different laptop users have had this problem. Easiest solution is just to uninstall and use a generic driver. Hopefully that works. There were also two errors to do with Avast Antivirus in the minidump, so I'll move onto that and perhaps a registry cleaner if this doesn't fix things.

So if anyone else out there that just bought a P650/ 651 gets a random BSOD, it might just be your Synpatics driver.

But beware that windows "optional" update will list out its own version of Synaptics driver. Unless you want that version installed, you should try to uncheck it from the list.

Scan are now offering the Killer 1525 card. At the time of my order there was only the option for the Killer 1202 card. Seeing as the laptop has yet to be built, I've asked them if I can switch over to the superior wireless card. Hope so. It cost the same price on the website.

The 1080 IPS and Samsung 4K screens are now in stock. The Sharp got pushed back and now has an ETA of Jan 8th. (Edit: Sager did get their initial shipment of Sharp screens and filled some orders. Waiting for next shipment ETA Jan 8th)

Shot an email to see if Sager will provide us exact model numbers since they are now available.

Also for the NP8652 Sager has made both Samsung and Sharp 4K screens an option but not the 1080 IPS yet. (Edit the 1080 IPS is the default screen on the NP8652, so it is available as an option)

Oh dear, does the delay on the Sharp 4K affect all resellers? Is it a delay from Clevo themselves?

Uh oh, does that mean mine won't have a Sharp panel in it (it says it does on the order)?

It will affect all Sager resellers. They did not say what exactly the delay was.

Could you PM me your order number and I will check to find out for sure. It may be possible that they got some in stock but just enough to fill all existing order. But I will look into your order order sure.

What about non-Sager resellers outside the US?

I hope it's just a Sager thing and my non-Sager order is safe. Haven't heard anything yet from Scan about a delay. Kind of worried now.
