I ordered from them about 3 weeks ago as I thought my laptop would be delivered earlier (order placed 2 Feb, delivered 25 Feb, longer than I expected). Though your comment does explain much, I tried calling both numbers listed on their website, and they were disconnected, and nobody's responded to my e-mail yet...

Thanks, I tried it and I get 4-5 FPS more now :)

OK, I was on the latest driver and I will try 344.75, too. As you said I think it's because I have single channel. I will try to get another 8 GB ASAP! :)

And by the way I saw a lot of posts talking about changing the clock values. Should I change them too?

Same panel here.. and also the same question I posed long ago as I have a nice samsung eDP panel but would need the eDP cable the TN panel uses to connect it to the laptop. I confirmed by teardown that the LG IPS is indeed LVDS.

If you ever find a vendor willing to sell the display cables let me know but suspect we will never get a chance to get them. This is really the only gripe I have with Sager/Clevo is no way to order a flippin part I'm willing to BUY! Got too used to Dell and able to source anything I ever wanted.

See above on the eDP cable needed. Note that if you go 3k or 4k that is a different cable as well.

BTW what's the best way to find out the operating speed of my installed RAM? I have Corsair Vengeance 2133Mhz RAM, I understand that I need to use the Prema Mod BIOS to get the full speed, but I want to find out if it's running at 1866Mhz even on the stock Bios, or just 1600 Mhz. Thanks!

Okay, this is what CPU-Z says, does this mean my RAM is running at 1600Mhz, 1866Mhz, or something else (e.g. 2133Mhz, as rated? Thanks!

it's running at 1866. you take the number and cut it in half if you look at dram freq

for ddr frequency, double the clocks shown in cpu-z, thus: 2x931.2=1862.4~1866mhz

got the same sticks btw :)

1866Mhz (you double the DRAM Frequency - because it's Double Data Rate RAM - think that's the reason).

Oh,that's great! Thanks everyone who replied. I wanted to hold off on modding the bios until I've got the hang of the system, but it's good to know that at least I'm getting 1866Mhz out of these sticks for now.

BTW what's the last Nvidia driver version that doesn't lock-out over-clocking?

Just stick with 344.75. 342.50 and 341.44, which just came out, are simply 344.75 and 340.52 with a couple files patched after Nvidia got scared from the whole mobile G-Sync thing.

Is that what the 345.20 thing is about, it is unlocked again? I was wondering why Nvidia just came out yesterday with a new driver that had an old version number.

No, Nvidia locked down its driver more to prevent modding. 345.20 has a more secure nvlddmkm.sys & nv4_mini.sys and includes the 344.80 hotfix. Otherwise identical to 344.75.

Night be the new vBios or newer drivers.

    I'll try them out today

depends on your needs. nvidia experience is superfluous if u ask me, since i can take care of my own game settings just fine and also dont stream / record any game vids :p

key combo is Fn+1 (not F1, but 1)

Great, that works, thanks! I was actually expecting the fans to be louder at full blast, it's actually not to bad consider it's max!

BTW I forgot to say, the 1080p matte IPS screen on my XMG is just lovely! Loads better than the screen on my 2012 Macbook Air. I've not noticed any dead pixels yet, though have yet to do a proper test. Light bleed doesn't seem to be an issue either so far

Ok, let me reiterate... I'm getting 6509 firestrike score wirh 7403 graphics score.

That's in line with what notebookcheck got in their test so I guess it must be the newer drivers that are giving a better score.

Guys, would you recommend stock 306 BIOS and EC or the Prema Mod for P650SE? Also would you recommend overclocking/underclocking the CPU and the GPU? Sorry I'm kinda noob at these so I want to learn :) (My Bios is 1.03.04 and Nvidia driver is 344.75 at the moment)

Me too... Regarding EC, I'm just using the one posted on my reseller's site for the XMG P505: http://www.mysn.de/secure/userarea/download.asp?KategorienOrder=010;010&show=Support

I'll probably flash my Bios to the Prema Mod one soon, though, as want to be able to make full use of my 2133Mhz RAM (currently is at 1866Mhz on the stock XMG Bios) at least. Would also like to explore some mild overclocking of the GPU

I'd say go for prema if you want fully unlocked everything. When you download the files from prema's website you get a package containing 2 folders. One of them is a Bios+EC combo and the other folder is the vBios.

CPU should neither be underclocked or overclocked....just undervolted to reduce the temps and reduce power throttling(47/58.5W power seems to be hardcoded somehow)

GPU can be heavily overclocked due tot the huge thermal headroom(depending ofc on the quality of your silicon)

Do you actually need to under volt the CPU, or can this be left as is?

If using the version of the Nvidia driver that still allows overclocking, do I need to use the Prema vBios if only performing mild over clocking, or does the standard Nvidia vBios still allow a small OC?

OK, so I downloaded the Prema Mod. First I will install the BIOS and after that vBIOS right?

For undervolting of the CPU I will be using XTU and for overclocking the GPU NVIDIA Inspector right?

And at last, which values should I go for undervolting the CPU and overclocking GPU? I mean is there a sweetspot or should I just play around and see for myself? :) Sorry for all of these loooong questions :) And thanks again :)

I now choosing between the 1080p IPS matte or 4k Samsung PLS glossy panel for this laptop. Does anyone have the 4K panel and can give me feedback on how you found it? What are the specs for the 2 panels? I might start to do some graphic work while on the go with this laptop.

    @Oxford_Guy
Well you can leave it as it is....but it will work at arround 94 degrees C in max load on all 4 cores(XTU Stress Test)

Also due to the "turbo boost power limit" of 47W and "turbo boost short(max 28 seconds) power limit " of 58.5W you will have power throttling down to 3.0-3.2 GHz when in full load.

After a -80mV undervolt on both memory and cache my max temp went down to 83 degrees C (that's a whole 11 degrees difference- HUGE) and the CPU never hit the power throttle in XTU Stress Test, staying at full 3.4 Ghz on all 4 cores.

Intel Burn Test and Prime 95 still pushed the temps way up in the 90 degree range and still made the CPU power throttle but those are unrealistic loads.

Stock vBios allows +135Mhz on core and +500 I think on memory.

    @kaded

    The order isn't really important.

Just make sure that you follow prema's instructions in his installation videos precisely.

For undervolting you can use XTU and for overclock you can use NVIDIA Inspector/EVGA Precision/MSI Afterburner.

I use HWInfo64 in sensor mode to monitor temps and frequencies and whatever.

For undervolting start at -50mV wich should be fairly foolproof and work yourself down while testing after each adjustment.

Personally I reached -80mV on both core and cache and it was stable after 8Hrs in prime95 blend test and 1Hr Intel burn test on Maximum.

Some people like to test up to 24Hrs prime 95 but IMO if it doesn't fail on me after 8Hrs then the chances that it will fail in real world use are negligible.

For overclocking I can't really recommend you a start point as each chip is different... Just work yourself up and test with Unigine Heaven/Valley and 3DMark Firestrike
