Wow adding the parameters worked for me. I was able to install Ubuntu just fine. There were some minor things such as the touchpad not working (I'm using a mouse instead) and not able to shut down properly, but hopefully I can resolve that on my own. Thanks a lot!

Hey guys, what are your ordering/shipping times like? I ordered my NP8153 back on September 2nd and it's still in the "building" stage...
Is this normal? I thought I should have the laptop by now even with the backorders. -

Edit: It`s something about the restart/plug/unplug combination. Starting unplugged and plugging in after windows is up result in windows charging my device as wellLast edited: Oct 11, 2016 -

Not sure if it helps for comparing shipping times, but I ordered the base NP8153 with the 4K panel and 6700HQ CPU. -
Another P651RS-G owner here, reporting in.
Have mostly the same issues people are reporting here, except even weirder display problems.
1. Backlight bleed in bottom left, right and a blotch in the upper right portion of the screen. Nothing much I can do about this I guess.
2. Connected an external display (BenQ XL2730Z, 144Hz), everything seemed fine initially, then started getting black screens while gaming, like the display was resetting itself - a couple of seconds off and then recovers.
These black screens started to be more frequent and last week the machine became unusable, I can't launch basically anything other than a browser without the screen going black and then usually crashing the app or more rarely, the whole machine.
So I googled a bit and thought this is a ground loop problem, as on battery power this does not happen.
Tried different cables (mini-DisplayPort to DisplayPort, HDMI to HDMI), switching between Discrete graphics mode and MS Hybrid, no difference.
Then unplugged the external display and surprise surprise, this behaviour continues on the internal display now.
Totally at a loss now, since initially everything was working fine on the internal display, I ran 3DMark, Unigine Heaven benchmark, Doom, no problems.
Only major change since then that I can think of is Windows 10 update to the Anniversary Edition.
Plus I added my existing two SSD drives to the existing NVMe storage.
3. The high CPU usage (ACPI.sys) when using the external display.
I updated the BIOS today from 1.05.02 to 1.05.04 (thanks to gooface for posting the instructions). The EC didn't change by the way, still 1.05.01.
Also did a Windows 10 reset just in case before the BIOS update.
The display seemed more stable at start, connected the external one, launched a game, still blacks out. Also noticed some interference lines briefly which I have not seen before.
One more thing to note - if the laptop goes to sleep with the external display connected, the display does not turn on upon waking, not even the internal one and not even after a cold reset (holding power button). Only way is to unplug it from AC, then cold reset.
Any help concerning the second problem would be very appreciated. -
The RST driver is completely different to the RST Raid driver and changes some other things with how the AHCI controller accesses drives. -
Question is there any other color adjustment other then the intel/nvidia settings? I have a I1display tool and dont like the iprofilers icc correction.
**edit**
Nevermind I was able to get it pretty good with just the graphics settingsLast edited: Oct 11, 2016 -
Hi all, as 1080p is plagued with light bleeds, will it be better to go with 4k option (less prob of light bleeds, better color quality etc)? I find 4k is overkill for 15" though.
Thanks for ur input! -

Would a poll make sense? I wouldn't mind seeing where this is going. Some peoples experiences with the 1080p screens are disappointing, but it doesn't seem to be a bad problem for everyone. -
Fortunately, I'll be using it for productivity so the 4k will help with the extra real estate and I'll just game on 1080p anyway. (1080p>4k scales perfectly) -
1080p is sooo enough for 15 inch, and very optimal, can't even differentiate pixels after 24 inch full hd desktop.
Don't listen to them, they just turning brightness to max and photograph black screen, in real life it's not so bad as it looks in photos. If you have ez rma option buy and see yourself.Last edited: Oct 12, 2016ace_bandage, baytotheapple, FredSRichardson and 1 other person like this. -

I sent the problem description to the company that sold the laptop (they are in Poland), their deadline for answering is today, will see. -
I do agree that a 1080p screen is "a lot" for a 15inch screen. I actually wanted a 1080p at first. But hey, even with a 4k screen you can still downscale it to 1080 perfectly with no problems as mentioned several times here. Make sure though if you do decide to try your luck that you might end up waiting about another month or so if you decide to return it for another display. I ordered mine originally back in August and now I'm waiting for my 2nd one to come in the next week or so

I have the 650rs with 4k display. FWIW I do have a bit of light bleed in the bottom right and the top, I can only notice it if I turn off all the lights in the room and have a black display on the screen. It doesn't bother me day to day.
I can also confirm that I had the external display issue, in fact I couldn't get an external display to work at all. Having put the latest bios and EC on, it appears to be working correctly now (only been testing it for 15 minutes). Interestingly, whilst it works in both discrete and hybrid modes, I can only adjust the multiple monitor settings whilst in discrete mode. I'm not exactly going to use an external monitor whilst on battery power, so it's no big deal, but might help someone else with the same issue.
For people wondering about the 4k display. I'm generally pretty happy with it, however I do have scaling issues in a couple of applications. Lotus Notes which my work uses, and has tiny tiny icons which is fiddly. Worse though is Remote Desktop client which I use all the time (I'm a sysadmin). I've started using RoyalTS to manage my Remote Desktop sessions, as it does support scaling properly. I know it could just set the internal display to 1080p, but I'm trying to make everything work with 4k.
Gaming on 4k - I haven't had as much time as I hoped to play, but I've been playing the Witcher3 a bit. With everying on max including hairworks, I'm consistently at 58-60 fps whilst in 1080p. If I go to 4k, it's typically around 35fps, but I do get lower spikes. I can't see an obvious difference in quality with my 43 year old eyes, so I just use 1080p.
I also played a bit of Mechwarrior Online. In 4k I'm getting between 40 and 60fps, I can see the difference between 1080p and 4k, 4k looks super sharp, but coming from a 30" screen, I'm struggling to see details on this 15", (again, old eyes).
I bought the 4k in the first place because I thought it's only about £90 more than the 1080p, but gives me more future proofing, Also 1080p seemed a bit daft with a 1070gpu.
I can always scaledown the screen to 1080p. I guess my point is, if you're eyes aren't great, maybe don't bother with the 4k screen. I think I'd enjoy the 4k on an external, bigger screen, and now I can do that (once I save up again to buy one at least).
Overall, I'm very happy with this laptop.AJ2.0, Donald@Paladin44, btccxi and 1 other person like this. -

Hi everyone, I have orderd a clevo p670 from www.ivypc.se with 500gb sata3 850 samsung evo ssd, 8gb ram, 1070 gtx, and a 8260 wifi. They now told me they are out of stock, and they sent me an email saying that they are sorry for the wait and that it will come in next month. Sigh. He also asked if I wanted another laptop instead and he offerd the msi barebone wich is alot bigger and bulkier and more expensive.. It basically has the same specs. I think it is gt72 case or something. I need some advice.. If ai wait he would take 50 dollars.off the price. Should I wait 3 weeks? Thanks for any answers

here's a question though, i'm reading on these bios update instructions here: http://mysn.co.uk/support/index.php...e/View/21/0/how-do-i-update-my-notebooks-bios
that you should unplug the power and remove the battery after a bios update to perform a power cycle? you guys doing that? -
-
k so yea, the control center controls on the taskbar are super annoying, do you have to have it to have control over the keyboard colors/brightness?
it'd be great if you could use kbcolorpicker but without the rest of that crap -
Obsidian-PC launched a new bios and EC (no changelog) for the P650RP6. Waiting for their tutorial on how to flash both.

Me too!
Although I have been having practically no issue with my rp6g. Smoothest and easiest Clevo ownership in my life! And this one is taking a "beating", always from backpack to table, it follows me everywhere. I've worked on a plane, gamed on a train, heavy work with and without it connected to power.
Hasn't skipped a beat, nice little beast and I havent once regret selling my P771DMLast edited: Oct 13, 2016ronzky321 and FredSRichardson like this. -

Does anyone have a Service Manual for P650RP6-G? -

Hi, that's the User Manual, I already own it. I need the Service Manual. The one which describes the schematics and disassembly procedures and so on.
There is a repository here:

I got around to testing power consumption some more on my 650RP6-G using a kill-a-watt meter and an inline DC current meter I rigged up to go in-between the charging cable and the laptop.
Tested with battery at 25%, screen on max brightness, discrete gpu mode, wifi downloading around 50MB/s, copying files from cell phone via bluetooth, usb keyboard and mouse hooked up, internal keyboard leds on max brightness, playing music on internal speakers on max. CPU and GPU were on their max performance profiles. Used several different benchmark methods to make sure CPU/GPU utilization was at 100% continuous for at least 15 minutes. Pretty much the most possible power draw I could imagine possible. The highest draw I saw from the Kill-A-Watt meter (ie power consumption from the wall) was 168w. The power consumption from the DC side of the power adapter at that time was 149.1w. That gives the AC adapter a 88.75% efficiency at that load (which is fairly decent). The max temperature recorded during these tests was 87°c on CPU core 1 (the majority of the time the cores were around 75-80), and 66°c on GPU .
A more realistic gaming power consumption with just a GPU benchmark running was on average between 135-150w from the wall. With GPU temps maxing at 62°c and CPU at 66°c.
Power consumption (from the wall) when doing mainly web browsing/video/audio was around 60-100w when charging.
Web browsing on a powersave cpu/gpu profile when the battery was full it was around 30-60w.
Lowest idle power consumption I recorded was 27w. Idle temperatures for CPU are around 35-40°c and GPU is around 40°c.
I'm thinking from my test I should probably repaste the CPU better (Sager put on ICD on both).Last edited: Oct 14, 2016ccp6128, Arondel, ace_bandage and 2 others like this. -
