Maybe you alluded to it in another post; but have you tried suspending the cancerous ACPI process thread and checking Vive Performance?

I think it's possible that your experience with ACPI.sys looking normal is actually an indication that something else is wrong.

I have tried suspending it using Process Hacker, and saw no change in performance. A friend of mine who knows much more than I do about this was suspicious about whether that thread could even really be suspended without crashing the system. But in any case, I think you're right. There's much more going on here.

I'd venture to guess lots of stuff is bundled in the Graphics driver here.

I've seen a couple of issues with 2 of my P650RP6-G units in dGPU mode with external monitors. In my case I have 3x 24" 1080p/60hz panels.

    1. The displays will randomly flicker with corruption. Sometimes just a single screen at a time, but often all of them simultaneously. Usually only for a frame or 2 so its fast, but quite noticeable.
    2. The GPU does not down-clock properly and sits at 936mhz. This also raises the temperature unnecessarily to 47C where the fans come on even idling on the desktop.
I've managed to workaround BOTH of these issues by using Nvidia Inspector's "Multi Display Power Saver" which forces the GPU into lowest P8 state. This drops the clockspeed to 139mhz (where it should be), temps down to 40C (fans off, yay!) and to my great surprise the flickering stops as well! WTF

So I can understand point 1) above. This has been a long standing bug with desktop cards as well where multiple monitors doesn't allow the GPU to downclock properly. Nvidia, for YEARS, have said that this is a "feature" due to requiring more power to drive multiple monitors. This is obviously complete BS as people have used the above NV Inspector workaround for just as many years.

I also did have the ACPI.sys DPC errors. At the same time, I noticed that the "System" Process was pinning one of my cores for seemingly no reason. Process Explorer pointed toward hardware interrupts.
Now however, no sign of it. Things I did:

    1. DDU and install older 372.54 Nvidia driver.
    2. DDU again and go back to 372.72
    3. Disable ACPI device in device manager and enable again
    4. Removed some Intel junk I didn't need. Everything Intel related except for the Intel Graphics Driver and Intel Management Engine.
    5. Disabled MANY startup programs including the Clevo Hotkey Tray utility. I think this may be the culprit. The new ClevoCC hooks into XTU which was creating all kinds of weird problems and CPU usage.
I reckon the Clevo Hotkey utility and how it hooks into XTU were the primary culprits.

Hmm so today's Nvidia driver (372.90) still breaks gsync on this laptop, so I guess I will use this laptop without gsync until either Clevo or Nvidia fix this since I want to play the games coming out this fall while using the gameready drivers.

Reminder if you do this, disable gsync in the Nvidia control panel (under the display->set up gsync tab on the left) or you will have less than desirable results on this laptop.

I just got off the phone with Larry from LPC Digital. He just spoke to Clevo and they said this is the first they've heard of these issues:
    • ACPI.sys/CPU usage related to external displays
    • Similar performance problems with VR
    • Pixel Inversion / vertical banding in the 1080p 15.6" display (Edit:not surprised, I probably just drew a short straw)
Clevo is apparently pretty interested to get their hands on my machine and do some testing, so they've asked that I RMA the laptop. I told Larry it's hard to believe this is the first they've heard of it, but he said that's what they are saying and that they're quite perplexed. He told me they have no idea what's causing it and don't have an ETA on a fix whatsoever.

Larry suggested that it might be wise to wait a while before ordering again, maybe even until we get Kaby Lake chipsets. By then, 10 series cards and the issues associated with it should be old hats.

    :(

Here's my thing, is there a similar outrage in the other 10 series laptops made by clevo or any other manufacturer?

I have the ACPI issue like you did but I have my workaround, I cant test VR since I dont have a Vive or Rift. I dont have that Banding or Inversion issue you have.

Kaby Lake is not until at least sometime in January the earliest since they are claiming some desktop chips might be out in Dec. I highly doubt we need to wait that long for some sorta fix.

Yeah, it's disheartening to say the least. We have a Sager at work (desktop replacement w/980) and it's been fantastic. I was so looking forward to owning my own, but I just don't know anymore. I get that it's new hardware, but how is it that they didn't test for it or learn about it until today? Concerns, I have them.

Mmm, so is that a no go on the NP8153 then?
I won't play it on any external because I honestly like to set on my bed after work, with a laptop cooling pad, and just zone out on witcher 3 or something til sleepy time.
I was literally about to straight up purchase the 1070 vr, but came here for reviews haha.

So far the issues seem to be software or driver related. I guess there may be some issues with the 1080p screens (i don't know if anyone's seen issues with the 4k screen yet).

Yeah it's the 1080p that I was looking at. I planned on to 'tune in, turn off, drop out, drop in, switch off, switch on, and explode” on the graphics only on VR and wasn't too concerned with 4k on the screen really. "Mind blowing" graphics have never been my thing, just FPS. But that pixel problem on certain colors on screen seems discouraging to say the least.

May just wait a bit and see how this forum goes.

Yeah I don't think these types of growing pains are unheard of for a new model. Certainly buying one of these laptops 4 months from now will be a different experience. Riding the bleeding edge has some down sides, but it's also a fun hobby. These laptops are great for anyone who likes to tinker.

Hi, just notice that the 4k screen option is now available at Xoptic and Gentech. Seems to be non-IPS but has G-Sync
How does it compared to 1080p IPS? Worth upgrading if I go for 1070?

    Model options:
    15.6" 1920x1080 LG IPS LED Matte-Type @60Hz (Anti-Glare) G-Sync
    15.6" 4K QFHD 3840 X 2160 LED Matte-Type @60Hz (Anti-Glare) G-Sync

    Thx!

Agreed. I was enjoying trying to dig into this issue but it was starting to turn into an obsession. I wish I could just ride it out, but now they want it back and I'd rather roll the dice again and get a better display. I was under the impression that the 650s had 75Hz screens and now that we know they don't I may end up going for the 17" model down the road once things settle. I'll be tuned into this thread for a while. Thanks to everyone that has helped... it's a pretty cool community here. :)

That sounds like a good plan. My system is delayed a bit - it's very popular right now according to Larry@LPCDigital but I don't mind the wait. That probably amounts more sorted out issues by the time its in my hands.

Initial impressions: very solid, backlight bleed on pitch black in a couple spots, fans are a bit erratic, seems quick, thinner than I expected. The display is the weak link imo. I seem to have that issue with blue colors that someone else mentioned. But I only notice it in certain hues of blue. It's a bit distracting. The display can only over clock to 63hz which sucks. I haven't tried any games yet. Only had a few hours so I was setting stuff up mostly. Letting games download overnight. Also stock, my 1070 is boosting up to like 1830mhz. I've been able to oc by about 200mhz core and 550 memory but will need to do more testing. Kombustor on hardest stuff barely pushes GPU temps above about 66c for some reason. Haven't noticed any surface temp issues but I'm using an external mouse. Keyboards actually pretty quiet and feels nice. Backlighting is neat. P650rs btw. I'll do more in-depth stuff tomorrow if I get time. Shoot me questions if you have any.

Question for you guys. So stock 1070 should be 1645mhz boost, but I'm up in the 1800s without oc. Factory oc? Also my memory clock shows as only 4ghz in afterburner but online it says it should be 8ghz. I'm assuming it's actually 8ghz but not sure why it's reporting only 4ghz.

It's the same panel that's in the gt62vr I believe. To be fair. I actually like the way it looks. Colors are nice and has good contrast etc. Refresh rate honestly doesn't bug me personally. Ive run 60hz for years and never felt the urge to upgrade. Over clocked my desktop screen to 75hz and honestly didn't notice a difference. Backlight bleed is only visible during boot for like 5 seconds. The blue issue is my only real concern. Ill have to test if it goes away at different backlight levels.

Simple Answer to the both of them: The boost is dinamic - depending on the usage and the heat. You`ll get up to 2000 under perfect conditions - but this does not mean a thing. Run a demanding game for 30 without FPS cap and you`ll notice the clock drop. The RAM speed is 2 times 4000 -> 8000mhz. My desktop 1080 for example shows 5000 in Afterburner - menaning 2 times 5000 -> 10GB

    Best regards

I'd say go for it. I have had this machine for nearly 2 weeks now and love it. I use it in the same way as you only on a couch instead of in bed.

I had some initial issues with the fans, but they were set on custom for some reason. Make sure they are on auto in control center and you're good.

Oh yeah, I got the np8153-s with 6700hq and 1070. Works perfectly on a lapdesk, nice and cool with great FPS.

So u used a PCIe SSD and a m.2 SATA SSD?
I don't think it is even possible to plug 2 PCIe SSD, as one of the slot doesn't support PCIe that the contacts must be different.

I saw a Youtube video (can't find it now) that said only one of the m.2 slots can do PCIe, the one next to the battery. So maybe that is what you mean? The SSD will still work fine if plugged into the other one, but you won't get the added benefits of PCIe from what I understand. Although I am pretty new at this, so take with a tablespoon of salt.

So let me get this straight, the np8153 (650) has a 1080p 60 hz screen, that isn't impacted by the G-SYNC because it's 75 hz and the screen itself is still only 60?
    Or am I wrong?

I am not sure about the 2 M.2 slots - but you can use both of the 2.5 SSD slots.

    Best regards

    Thx.
Not sure. Do you mean if I use 1 m.2 PCIe and another m.2 SATA, I will get both the speed of SATA?
