Got the email also for P670RP6 from LPC. Arrives on 9/9 since I'm here in NY. Hope my wife is home to accept the package! Initially ordered on 8/19 processed 8/20. Don't hang me but I'm going to try win7 before win10 since I use quite few programs that are having issues/not working in win10. Hopefully the factory bios plays well with the install.

I guess its catch 22. Promotion information went live awhile ago, its been on all the resellers websites for awhile and only LPC from what ive seen listed a start date and even way before 26th if you clicked buy now our laptops are listed as promo elligible. I dont care for paragon but for those do its kinda..eh. Not only that but intel is also running promo right now and..nada. Probably me being salty though since I got half of what I knew was incoming lol

Do we have a confrontation from someone yet verifying how the 4k screen on the p650rs handles down scaling to 1080p in games?

I guess I'll chime in here on the resolution thing. I have never seen a need for 4K yet. I have a 1080p sager 8153 that had a beautiful screen, once you set scaling to 124 or 126% instead of the default 125%, for some reason mine was blurry at 125. I have two 32" 1080p monitors for my main pc, and they all look great. Text is easy to read, ect. But I like to sit about 3 feet from my 32" monitors and a foot or two from my 15" laptop. All games are going to be played at 1080p anyways as I can see a huge difference between <60fps and >60fps, so even with a 1070 4k is gonna be choppy for new games. Personally I would never go above 1080p on any screen smaller than 40", hell my computer looks good on my 40" Samsung TV. But I am also older. I mean if you are 20 years old with perfect vision and like looking at tiny, tiny text and dealing with resizing boxes, fonts, and pictures being too big for the text around them, well go ahead and get a 4k panel, but I think you are just wasting your money and time. Or if you are into photo/video editing I could see a case made for it, but more resolution is not always better. My cell phone has like 2440p or something ridiculous for a 5.7" screen, sure it looks nice when scaled big enough, but games are choppy so I use an app to make the resolution 1080p and then they are smooth. And there is no f@cking way you can tell the difference between 1080p and 2440p on a 5 or 6 inch screen, and if you can you are only nitpicking. Put that money towards more ram, SSD, or better gpu instead of wasting it on a screen at 4k, hell why not get a 8k screen, I hear they are making them in Japan.

Running games at 1080p on a 4k screen should be the same as running them at 1080p on a 1080p screen. So no throttling shouldn't be an issue. Even running them at 4k probably wouldn't throttle, you just wouldn't get very good fps. Even the 1070 struggles to push 60fps on ultra at 4k in many games.

I think I'll chime in on resolution. I have a 2560 x 1440 13" display (226 PPI) on my HP Spectre Ultrabook and I really like it. There are very few apps that don't scale the font up under Windows 10 and for those I use the Windows magnifier app.

I've grown used to 226 DPI and I definitely notice it when I go back to my 20" FHD monitor (99 PPI). The P650's 15.6" 4K display should have 282 PPI which may be more than needed.

I guess there are definitely two downsides: battery life and game performance. Though shouldn't the 1070 be able to handle it?

Game performance is a bit of a non issue because you can just choose to run the game at 1080p. It should scale well because it's an even divisor of 4k. The problem then becomes that you pretty much only use it for web and desktop. Which at that point isnt worth it for my use. As for the 1070 running games at 4k. It largely depends on the game. There's numerous games it can handle maxed out at 4k 60fps but there will be many it can't. It's sort of the intro card for 4k gaming. 1060 is pretty much fine for anything 1080p, but may not be in the future. 1070 is overkill for 1080p at present but should remain relevant for years.

Thanks for the info. Do you know if it is Xotic exclusive? Since it's an Intel promotion I didn't think it would be, but I can't find anything about it on any other site.

Idk if it's possible. But could anyone with the laptop record a video of it under load just so we can get an idea of the fan noise?

    Edit:
Also someone mentioned that an issue in the bios is causing iccmax to throttle the CPU under GPU load. As I recall iccmax can be disabled in Intel XTU on my desktop processor. Is it possible we could disable this as a temporary solution until a patched bios is released?

I probably put gain way up too high to pickup any sound... this is with a lapel mic clipped where webcam is facing the back (CA CVLA-1101) that and mic port has this bg static on my laptop for some reason.

Hi there, can anybody tell me how to get rid of the screen dimming function? I have disabled "adaptive brightness" in the energy options, set all brightness values to 100% but still the screen (external 4k tv) is getting dimmed. Happens for example when desktop background is just black instead of a wallpaper.

I first ordered at P670 with 6700HQ and 1060. I really liked it, but it was too heavy\big for my needs. Then I ordered a P651 with 1070 and returned the P670. Thought I would share my impressions with you guys since many consider ordering them and few have gotten theirs so far. I also have some comparisons between P651 and P670:
-P670 1060 has better performance than P651 with 1060. The chassis of the P651 has poorer cooling and turbo-frequency on the 1060. In some games and test the difference is up to 100 MHz which really shows in unigine heaven extreme where the P651 gets around 70-72 fps and P670 gets 73-76 fps (first runs always gets a few more fps due to cooler gpu at first). Noise is a few dB lower. Unfortunately I had som backbleed issues with P670 FullHD-ips, both upper corners have problems with it.
-P651 with 1070: The chassis is 4 mm thicker than the 1060-version. Performance is way higher than 1060 with 105-107 fps in unigine heaven. Performance is a bit inconsistent compared to other 1070-notebooks. In unigine heaven is beats the MSI- alternatives with 2-3 fps. In 3Dmark timespy it gets 5030 which is about 100 points more. In 3Dmark11 it gets 500 points lower on overall. Undervolting helps some. Undervolted 102 and in stresstesting temp on cpu drops with 2-3C and turbo is manintained a bit longer. Finish is cheaper with less brushed metal on the 1070-version.

    Temperaturetesting using furmark and prime95:
    P670 1060 89C cpu 74C gpu, 3C lower with 102 stable undervolt on cpu
    P651 1070 94C cpu 80C gpu, 2C lower with 102 stable undervolt cpu

94°C for me is high but furmark + prime95 that's so unreal ^^. Anyway, I already bought a small tube of IC7 while waiting for my P651, as always with clevo their paste job is horrible. so first thing first : repaste.

I see that clevo uses cheramic cooling pads, they sent spare ones in my package. Undervolting helped some and as said: GPU/CPU above 75C/80C is something that only furmark+max heat prime95 was able to accomplish ;) IC diamond might bring down temp about 5C-ish?

I've seen a few people mention light bleed with the Clevo's (here and elsewhere with past models). Is this something the resellers will help to deal with? Is this something I'm likely to run into with a new P650RS? What should I expect?

    Thanks!
