I have the 950 Pro in mine, works as expected in Win10. When I bought the laptop from RJTech, they mentioned it will not show up in the BIOS and will need to wait on a BIOS update which they said will be out next month. During Win10 install, it detected the drive just fine and it boots just fine, but stuff like CrystalDisk Info won't show the drive.

Anyone know a way to keep fan noise pretty minimal? Damn thing sounds like it's going to take off from my desk when I start a game.

What are your settings in Clevo Control Centre? And what are your specs?

Loud fans under load are just a fact of life with that kind of hardware in a thin laptop.

You can always try under-volting in XTU and doing a re-paste, to lower your temps. Beyond that, you can set up your own fan profile in CCC, to lower their speeds, but this will increase your temps. Also, using a cooling pad might help.

I'm about to receive my 950 Pro, which port is the PCIe? The two M.2 slots show up as SATA0 and SATA1 in BIOS.

It's in the one between the battery and HDDs. Only shows up as an install location during Windows setup, and as my C: drive in Windows itself. The BIOS doesn't display it (though it boots just fine) and other programs don't see it, but it definitely is what Windows is installed to and working as fast as it should lol

BIOS has a long way to go.

In order to get it to boot from 950 Pro SSD it was not enough to set it as a first boot choice. I needed to go to "HDD boot options" as well and set "option 1" to SSD and "option 2" to "disabled", otherwise it would just keep booting from HDD. Go figure.

Enabling "UEFI" just seem to ruin everything, the thing cannot find any boot device at all.

PS: Samsung magician sw has been updated for 950 Pro, it can see it and do stuff with it (although there is nothing special needs to be done, it works fine as it is)

PPS: the two m.2 ports are physically slightly different, you won't be able to put 950 Pro into the wrong slot.

btw, dont forget to use the samsung provided nvme drivers instead of the automatically installed microsoft ones. theyll give u better performance and also enhanced support for the magician tool :) as for uefi boot, as far as i can see its an absolute must to be enabled, unless u decided to format ur m.2 nvme drive with oldschool mbr

    or i must buy w10?

and if i must buy w10 copy.... noone had the 8 beep problem discussed here?--->
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...illing-alienware-and-clevo-lcd-panels.779449/

    Or here http://www.clevo.com.tw/clevo_down.asp?lang=en
    Or here http://metabox.com.au/drivers.asp

    Samsung NVMe driver is here:
    http://www.samsung.com/global/business/semiconductor/minisite/SSD/global/html/support/downloads.html

Win7 can be installed but you need to make customized istallation media, basically unpack stuff from Win 7 DVD on another computer, add USB3 drivers to the right places, pack it back and burn it to DVD or make bootable USB stick. It is all doable with tools available on the internet but it is A LOT of hassle. However if you order your computer with Win7 it will come with win7 preinstalled. At least mine did :)
I don't think any sane person would recommend w8.1 at this point :) Cannot comment on Win10, havent' tried it yet.
Sorry, what was about UEFI? Do I need it or don't I? And what is wrong with MBR? In my case if I enable UEFI, I do not see any boot devices at all. There are no other options for me to change and it won't boot at all and if I press F7, the list of boot choices comes up empty. Or are you saying I need to somehow reformat all my disks in some fancy way to make use of UEFI?

Are you able to set RAPID mode? Mine detects the 950 Pro fine, reads the serial number and firmware, but says RAPID Mode is unsupported.

Do the models without G-SYNC support Optimus, or do they all have a MUX for switching GPUs?

All have the MUX switching between MSHYBRID (Optimus) and dGPU regardless of whether it's the G-Sync variant.

no surprise there, windows 7 doesnt support uefi boot so ure on mbr ;)

what would u want to use rapid mode for? only gives u e-peen benchmark scores, in real life scenarios its actually slower than regular mode ;) i dont recommend using it... if u insist though, make sure to have the samsung nvme driver installed to be able to use all magician functions with the 950 pro.

Like I said, everything shows correctly, it just shows 'Not Supported SSD'.

But back to the actual laptop, anyone figured out how to boost the clock speeds like you could do on the 47XX chips through XTU? I've tried a hundred different variations, but even a 1x increase doesn't apply with the error popping up on reboot saying it couldn't be applied. Voltage offset works, though.

I just noticed a couple of resellers (like Prostar and AVA Direct) are now selling the P653RG-S, but it is not clear how this differs from the P650/1RG. Anybody know the difference?

Both were installed from the latest version directly from their respective sites. This is NOT my first time to ever turn on a computer lol I was asking if there was a certain way to do this on the new chip, as the way to do it with the previous generations does not work on the 6700hq.

doesnt have anything to do with not the first time having turned on a computer ;) ud be surprised at how many issues pop up here related to / based on simple oversights by the user :) so better to cover the basics first before delving into more complex details.

Hey I'm thinking of getting this laptop with a single 2.5 inch 7.5mm HDD and an MSATA SSD.

Does that mean I can install a second 2.5 inch 7.5mm HDD in the other bay?

Do I need a caddy? Screws? Sorry for the newbie question but I'm still kinda new to customized laptops.

You should get screws (the caddy is for both drives) so yes that's right.

Also the mini storage slot is m.2 not msata.

I've just recently received my new notebook (xmg p706 / clevo p671rg) and am having trouble trying to get g sync on. My understanding is that you have to be using the discrete graphics and not mshybrid/optimus but I can't seem to figure out how to change this! In the manual it says there is a gpu switch button in control center but I don't see it there at all? I had a quick look in the bios for this change as well but couldn't see it anywhere. I also tried changing the preferred graphics processor in nvidia control panel but even when I do that there still is no option to enable g sync. I am very much a noob in regards to this so maybe I am missing something obvious, if anyone has any suggestions it would be appreciated!

You should get everything that you need to put 2 in, however, a HDD is typically 9.5mm, so in this PC it is usually an option of one HDD or two 2.5" SSD's.

If I order a Sager NP8658-S from Xoticpc or Gentechpc with Win 10, will they install it for me, or do they just send the disc with the laptop, and I have to install it myself?

They'll install it for you. Most of the reseller websites will actually say "Installed" next to the OS you select.

Just for clarification, Sager will actually install Win10. Unless you're having something like painting, etching, or some other type of major customization done your laptop will never actually go to your reseller's location. All the work is done at Sager and then the laptop is shipped directly to you.

Hey guys, first time poster but long-time forum creeper. Actually read through all 44 pages of this thread!

In the market for a new laptop, i think. My current one is a Sager NP8250-S I got from XoticPC in Aug. 2013 (props to their amazing team) and I've pretty much narrowed my choice for a new laptop down to the NP8658-S due to the smaller 15" screen to fit in my bags, 980m, and the 6th gen CPU.

My question is: do you think I'd be better served just upgrading the GPU on my old NP8250-S from a GTX 780M to something more modern, and plan to just get a new computer this time next year or Spring 2017? Or should i go for this NP8658-S now? I'm more worried about new "breakthrough" technologies that are on the horizon for 2016 that would render this less of an "upgrade" than it's meant to be. Anything on the horizon you guys can think of?

My 8250-S still runs very well, a testament to the quality and reliability of Sager. I've since upgraded it with a SSD and it holds up most games pretty well, but some gfx-intensive games like Witcher 3 make me cry when I can't put my settings on/near max.

Thanks so much for the help!

I just tried doing a clean install on my P650RE on a Samsung 950 Pro and the Windows 10 setup can't detect it. If I install it on one of my other drives will it detect it afterwards as unallocated space? Then I could just migrate the install to the 950 Pro, assuming it's supposedly working...

EDIT: That NVMe driver Samsung released, is it possible to unpack it somehow and load it during the Windows setup?

Alright so I have had my p671rg for a few days now and wanted to ask some questions / share some quick observations. I am definitely a noob as far as computer knowledge goes, I enjoy my games and researched what I wanted in a laptop. And thank you cathydoesmith for the help with how to switch from mshybrid to discreet :)

I understand with IPS technology that IPS glow/backlight bleed is pretty common and some degree of it is to be expected with these panels. Here are some quick photos I took with my samsung note 2 of my screen. This was more difficult then I expected to take a photo of. To be fair it does look a bit worse in the photos then it actually does in person but this is as close as I could get to accurate photos of it. What do you think is this worthy of an RMA or are there things I could do to improve it myself, or should I live with it?

I noticed something strange after I switched from mshybrid to discreet so that I could use g sync - When I tried to play movies at full screen the image would become jittery and stutter constantly. But only when at full screen, I could have it in window mode and enlarged and there was no issue at all. Once I switched back to mshybrid I have not had the same issue at all. I also have on 3 occasions now after closing the laptop and opening it that everything on the screen becomes fuzzy as if I was wearing someones prescriptions glasses that I didn't need. This was fixed with a reboot each time and I think this only happened when using discreet but I haven't confirmed it yet. I have switched back to mshybrid and will see if it happens again. Also a side note that when I enabled discreet for the gpu solution and enabled g-sync, the refresh rate jumped to 75mhz automatically when playing games, so that was cool...

Other then these issues I am really pleased with the laptop in terms of build quality, noise, screen (when not in dark scenes!) etc.

Doesn't look great, but to be fair, cameras over-exaggerate the effect, especially when shots are take in the dark. Usually it's a more serious problem if you can see the bleed in lit environments (yes it gets that bad. See if you can (gently) work a finger around the glowing areas. Spots like that are usually because the screen has been pinched slightly at those spots. Given how thin the P650 screen lid is, I'm not sure you can fix that perfectly.

I'm thinking the video playback is fighting with G-Sync. Most video players are hardware accelerated. Many also use a Direct3D renderer (video rendered onto a surface, to put it crudely) as the render method which is "technically" G-Sync capable. But, since most videos are 24 or 30fps they're below the G-sync threshold and generate frame doubles (not in a nice way either, typically worse than regular 60hz jitters for movies).

Depending on your player, see if there's some renderer options you can play with. If you're using Media Player Classic Home Cinema you could try something like ReClock to sort that out (or alternatively add a profile in the Nvidia control panel to disable G-Sync when using the video player).
Alternatively, you can use SVP (Smooth Video Project) and it'll motion interpolate your videos right up to your refresh-rate (60fps or 75fps when you're at 75hz) which makes for seriously smooth video.

    Hey guys,

About to get this beauty, just a quick question?
How good is the IPS G-sync colour reproduction/sRGB/Adobe RGB % and birghtness? ...I'll also be using it for photo/video editing, so colour is ultra NB...

Edit: Oh, and does it make sense to get the Autoswitch AC adapter specified on the Sager website?

    Thanks in advance!

A couple other owners and myself have reported the fuzzy screen issue after opening the laptop (from sleep and boot). Does it look like this for you? http://puu.sh/lq569/9113e839ed.jpg

Good afternoon all. It would be much appreciated if you have any insights into my issue posted here.

P650RG - Does not power on but the power indicator LED light up, then the fan comes on and stays on high, and 3 LED indicators start flashing.

I have done a clean install of Windows 10 on one of the HDDs and disk management is not recognizing the Samsung 950 Pro. I'm thinking I might have bought a defective drive... At the same time, the BIOS settings (or lack thereof) might be interfering with the drive functioning properly.

I don't know what to do...

The BIOS doesn't even detect a drive is installed in the M.2 slot lol Under Boot options it just lists 'Windows Boot Manager' and boots to Windows just fine. During install nothing showed in the BIOS, but booting to external DVD writer with a Win10 ISO worked, and detected the drive.

Well, Windows doesn't detect the drive at any point prior or after the installation. I used a USB drive to do a clean install.

I have even worse light bleed than what your pictures show and I'm still debating whether I should RMA my unit, although according to most I probably won't have that much luck with the replacement...

I'm running an SM951 512gb SSD. Can anybody explain why these read and write values differ from Windows vs. CrystalDisk?
