+$80 for G-Sync and IPS sounds like a no-brainer to me, IPS screens are usually miles better than TN screens

Hey just got mine eurocom sky mx5 FHD 6700HQ 16gb ram 500gb sam evo gtx 980m for some reason bios is 1.05.09 and fresh install win10pro gpu fan will not spin more then I would say slow lol temp gets up to 86 87 88 then gpu clock drops all the way to just over 400 MHz. If I use the command center of fn key to push the fans to 100% then I get 86 at over 1000 that is all done in furmark. I tried entertainment and performance settings. Also installed all the extra drivers from eurocom just not NVidia and wifi and all that got download by windows update.

It's just better all around with the better response times you get from IPS type displays now.

Today i made litte experiment. I changed thermal paste & pad on gpu and cpu on my P650RE6
Used Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut paste (NOW i can say you just need no more than the 1gr pack) and Phobya thermal pad XT (JUST need 1 120 x 20 x 1.5mm as you can see later)

    ................................................................................
MAYBE PASTE HAS SOME CURING TIME.
TEST MADE 5 MINS AFTER APPLIED.
IF I HAVE SOME NEWS I'LL POST IN NEXT DAYS
    ...............................................................................

    The inside

    1.jpg

Cpu after heatsink removed: stock thermal paste seems "liquid" and seems spread well

    2cpustock.jpg

Applied new paste and heatsink to see if spread well. Seems yes (it's a bit thicker than stock).
Very good contact, so need very little amount of paste

    3cpupress.jpg

Removed gpu heatsink, very good contact here too.
    As you can see thermal pad needed is just 1 (as i said 1 x 120 x 20 x 1.5mm thickness)

    4gpu.jpg

    And here are results:

    Test made this way:

    Turn on pc
after 10 mins idle, turn on temp reader (min temp)
    1h gameplay (Da Inquisition)
Turn off pc for 1 change paste
and again, turn on, idle for 10 mins and 1h gameplay

    Stock.jpg

For what i can understand they made a perfect job with my notebook.
Heatsinks are a 10/10 and even stock thermal paste works well (and they applied correctly)

You can gain average 2-3 degrees at max changing paste.
It's a GOOD thing, but with those temps ( 65° during game) i doubt it's a NEEDED thing.

Again, in next days i'll check if there is curing time and i'll edit this topic.

    Bye

Yes, that looks like the normal results of a good re-paste :) Not required for stock but it wont hurt if done properly :)

My NP6578-S arrived today from xotic-pc. It came with hard drive screws and a couple thermal pads. What are the thermal pads for? How do you use them?

Per the service manual, the thermal pads are for the 3G / m.2 SATA Module.

P.S. the bleed is real, but I'm not going to mess with it. This is my third laptop this year after having bad luck with Dell and Asus. I'm done replacing it.

I do love everything else about it though! Great build quality!

I think I noticed that too. When I turn on my laptop I really have to press down firmly on the power button. A light press won't turn it on.

Newbie to the forum and definitely a newbie when it comes to laptops. Did my due dilligence and researched many makes and models and just pulled the trigger on a
Sager NP8658-S (Clevo P650-RG). Went with the i7-6820HK and I'm really looking forward to my new present for the holidays.

Man, I'm kinda bummed. My new NP6578-S (IPS G-Sync) finally arrived a few days ago after way too long without a decent laptop and I was so excited. Overall I'm really happy with it...except...the bleed on the top right . It seems likely that the manufacturer will consider it within "normal" limits, so doubt I can get it replaced, but I feel like once I saw it, I couldn't stop noticing it. No, it's isn't really visible during routine web-surfing type use, but it's not as if dark scenes in games and movies are uncommon. For example, I finally had time to fire up a game today, which happened to be an RPG set in a dark dungeon...and there it was, that glow in the corner. I hope it's not something I'll spend the next few years being annoyed by.

I have the same bright bleed in the same corner, plus a minor one on the bottom.
The first thing I did was change the wallpaper so I can mask the bleed. Otherwise it would have driven me nuts. For the price, I can't complain, but I am not sure why other manufacturers don't run into this (I think) with IPS screens (MSI, Asus, Alienware) but sager does. Maybe the other screens are thicker?

I haven't tried it but it seems to be a common issue with other brands as well. Most people had better luck with the SM951 so far. Probably better to hold off until they officially support it.

Be sure to post a solution if you find one, or if an updated BIOS fixes the issue. I also have a 950 Pro, but have not updated the BIOS since I received my laptop last week. Sounds like everyone should probably hold off until their is a fix in place.

Been awhile since I've signed in and I just finished catching up on the posts I missed. Glad to see so many people picking up this model. Its a great buy for the value.

I've seen several people post about screen bleed and I have to say it seems like an issue to an extent. Obviously some photos make it look worse than it is.. I have two 27" QNIX monitors that you have to be careful with dead pixels and screen bleeds and the screen bleed on my Laptop is far worse than either one of the QNIX monitors I own.. So I am inclined to agree with the other member with this problem. However, mine is tolerable and not terrible when the room is lite..

The reason that brought me back is some random screen flickering.. I'll be playing StarCraft 2 Arcade and randomly the screen goes back for a second and then goes right back without any error messages or anything.. I don't believe anything is overheating as its not hot (not running monitoring software, but I guess I will start). I am thinking it is Nvidia driver issue as I updated it to the latest to avoid the start-up line issue I was having when I first got the laptop. Other than that I haven't done anything else driver wise.. (Running Win10) SC2 is the only game I play at the moment while I do have other games.. I haven't tried playing them..

Even though I've run through all the tests/bench and it passed with flying colors I don't play games often and I just recently started. While streaming my Xbox One to the laptop I had no issues.. I also haven't touched the bios so I this I am on the MShybrid if that is default... Any help or advise is appreciated.

Is the screen flickering while gaming happening only on the laptop display, or on external displays as well? If I remember correctly, there is an issue with Blizzard games and GSync or some other Nvidia-specific component, but I can't recall the details. You can also try to see if the games will run (at low settings) on the iGPU, and see if there is flickering there.

Thanks for the response Frank. I can try it on my TV via HDMI later tonight and see what happens. It isn't super frequent so it will be touch to tell. If the G-Sync always on? I thought it would only turn on when the Discreet is enabled.. Is that default or something?

I just installed my Samsung 950 Pro in an Alienware 15 R2, whose BIOS detected it just fine. However, the Windows 10 install again failed to recognize it... I'm thinking there are drivers missing from my Windows 10 install USB or something; even if the new Clevo BIOS recognized the drive, Windows 10 won't.

EDIT: Can a hard drive be malfunctioning even if BIOS detects it? I could have a defective drive...

Just got myself the latest P651RE6-G, I'm in the Nvidia control panel and on the left there is no option for G-Sync, as I've seen on many other people's screenshots.

    My options are:

    3D settings
    -Adjust image settings with preview
    -Manage 3D settings
    -Configure Surround, PhysX

    Display
    -Change resolution
    -Adjust desktop colour settings
    -Rotate display
    -Set Up Digital Audio
    -Set up multiple displays

    Video
    -Adjust video colour settings
    -Adjust video image settings

I have just downloaded the latest driver for Nvidia Expereince however there is still no option for G-Sync there. Also when I go to 'Manage 3D settings', under Vertical Sync there is no G-Sync option, only 'Use the 3D application settings', 'Yes' and 'No'.

Please can someone help me, feeling a little bewildered.

Depending on their size and thickness, I'd guess either spares, in case the thermal pads for the GPU RAM ever need to be replaced, or pads for an M.2 SSD to use the case as a heatsink?

Hey this might be a newbie question but I cannot figure out how to install my SSD. The manufactuer said that it would be easy once I opened it up but I can't figure it out. It's a Sata SSD 850 Evo. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

It came with a Hitachi Travelstar 7k1000 HDD installed but I was told that I can install two HDDs.

There's another HDD slot under that hard drive, remove it so you can install the SSD.

The HGST 1TB hard drive that's already installed is 9.5mm thin and won't allow a second hard drive to be installed alongside it. You can only install two hard drives in the same caddy if they are both 7mm thin.

Ahh you're right! Shoot, what should I do? Take out the HGST and sell it? Return my Evo and get an MSATA?

Yes, get the m.2 version instead, not mSata. They are different form factors and mSata won't work in an m.2 slot. That way you don't have to give up the HDD.

You have plenty of options, depending on how much storage you need. You might want to give that PCIe M.2 slot a go with a Samsung SM951 or 950 Pro drive for ultimate speed.

However, if you decide to sell your HGST drive like I did, make sure to double check with your reseller/manufacturer that they will still service your laptop under warranty. Some of them won't honor the warranty unless you ship it back with its original components installed...

Mr. Wingnut has got a nice youtube video on how to install a SSD + HDD in the same caddy in these laptops even if one or both of the units is more than 7mm thick. It involves getting rid of the SSD's casing though. And adding some sticky tape and some cardboard. That's exactly what I did in order to find space for my old Intel SSD and the 1TB spin-disk in the caddy. Works fine, and is simple enough.

Of course opening the case of the SSD you void the warranty.

Oh well ... just keep hold of the casing and the screws, just in case. Probably not popular among you "company representatives", but for the rest of us ... :)
